Call me a 'mountain turtle', I have never been to Lot One Shopper's Mall! Neither have I been to ION Orchard!
Anyway, I was following my uncle and aunt to Lot One just to 'look see look see'. It was lunch time and after walking around, we ended up at Dian Xiao Er.
Flipping through their menu, we saw that their set meal's really interesting. They have a chart that shows the number of people / number of dishes / price. Look at their menu on their website to understand what I mean.
We had the Family set for 4 persons, so it comes with 7 items. (Rice is considered one item. haha)
Here's what we have:
Soup of the Day - Lotus Root soup with pork. The soup's nice.
Duck Roasted with Angelica Herb. Everytime I come here, I like their duck. I like the herby taste of it.
Baby Kailan with salted fish and lime.
Have you tried kailan with lime in it? It really taste really nice!
I might just do the same at home next time.
The Hong Kong Style Steamed Fish Slices.
Mongolian Spare Ribs.
I like this. Crispy and tasty. I think I like the sauce ;-)
Braised Assorted Mushroom with Broccoli.
I like anything mushroom or broccoli, so this is lovely.
Oh ya, if you go early, you get early diner's discount too. I think we got a 12% discount.
If you are a senior citizen or a student, you get 20% off.

Dian Xiao Er @ West Coast Plaza
We have one colleague who likes to ask us to go have lunch at West Coast Plaza. So after some persuasion, we were all convinced to go there for lunch.
So, here we are at Dian Xiao Er. We realised something, if you come here before 12 noon, you get some discount off too. (Any discount is good at this kind of economy. )
We had 7 of us, so we opted for the set meal. Depending on the number of people, the number of dishes increases. Quite interesting.
Here's our set meal:
Their legendary Herbal Roast Duck. A bit sweet but we love it.
The Braised Mushroom in Chinese Wine. This is quite delicious.
Fish Maw Thick Soup with Seafood.
Stir Fried Lotus Roots with Macadamia Nuts. This vegetable dish is quite nice.
The 2 eggs with vegetables dish.
Old Style Steam Fish Slice. I like this because of the 'sze chuan' vegetable strips on it.
For dessert, Gui Ling Gao.

Dian Xiao Er @ VivoCity
On Thursday, a colleague said he wanted to go to VivoCity to buy mooncakes. He also wants have lunch at Dian Xiao Er.
OK. Mooncakes, not interested, Dian Xiao Er can consider. He managed to convinced all of us, and off we went.
When we were going in, we saw two banners outside, Citibank discounts and UOB discounts. UOB's looks better with a free dish too.
So when we were seated, some were looking at the set menu, but we were told, the free marmite chicken (the free dish) does not apply if you order the sets. Immediately we closed the set dishes menu. (how realistic are we??)
We went for the a-la-carte. Which turns out to be a wise choice.
We had 3 types of ducks to choose. (Ginseng, Angelica Herbs (tang gui) and 10 herbs combi). We had the 10 herbs version and we had the medium. I like it because it is a bit sweetish. Other colleagues said it was too sweet. Aiya, see everyone has different taste buds.
All the small talks we have during lunch. One of it is about the origin of the duck. Is this fresh duck from Malaysia or frozen duck from Taiwan. Oh. we did not bother to find out. LOL...
The poach spinach with century eggs and salted eggs. Quite yummy. Ordered medium size too.
Their house special tofu. We had small for this.
Ah. This is the free marmite chicken. hehe...
Mongolian spare ribs. Medium. We called it Sarawak Pepper Spare ribs instead. It's for those who like peppery stuff.

Dian Xiao Er - Herbal Roast Duck
Welcome to this new series. This time it's food from Dian Xiao Er.
They have branches in both Marina Sq and Vivo City. The pictures here are from Vivo City. As usual, the pictures in this blog are taken so that you can see for yourself how it looks and not the "official version" from their website. The dishes in this series are all part of a set meal that we ordred.
The shop front at Vivo City.
This is the famed Herbal Roast Duck from this restaurant.
Well, it is actually quite nice actually. Heard that people queue up just to eat this duck. The duck has crispy skin, the meat is moist inside, and a very pleasant, not too overpowering herbal taste.
