KFC @ West Mall

You might have seen the advertisement on TV. The KFC Egg Tart.
Advertising does influence and subliminally tell you, you want to have it, doesn't it?
We succumbed when 2 friends asked if we would want to have dinner at KFC.

***

This was the 2 egg tarts that we had last week night.

How does it taste? Not bad, not bad at all!
It was warm, eggy, and the slightly burnt top makes it smell really good.
Can't believe it is KFC doesn't it?

KFC Meal

Just yesterday, I saw my colleague eating egg tarts for breakfast, and I jokingly commented, KFC's?
She said yes and she said, do you know it is nicer if you leave it overnight in the fridge and eat it cold the next day? Ooo.. do you?

KFC Meal

***

But for the chicken, I think the KFC drumsticks are getting smaller and smaller!
Both the crispy and original is getting small. Sigh...

I think for KFC, it's best to go to an outlet that has long queue, it's so that you get freshly fried chicken! We remembered we had the most horrible cold chicken the other day when we ordered KFC delivery.

KFC Meal

***

The spicy drumlets. Oh, these stuff are wicked. It's so spicy it numbs your tongue and lips!
There are two kinds, get the fiery ones to get a taste of wickedness. LOL

KFC Meal

***

If you have been eating this, do you think it's now more peppery than tasty?

KFC Meal

***

One of my favourite drinks! Good old ice cold Pepsi.

KFC Meal

Oh yes, I think to get value when eating KFC, you got to bring the 'coupons'!
Are you a KFC coupon person as well?

We did not have ours, but thanks to our friends who had loads of it with them, we had the above for I think $12 + $2 for the egg tarts. ;-)

Quarter Pounder & Double Quarter Pounder @ McDonald's Singapore

Today's post was an invited session by McDonald's Singapore.

Are you one of the over 5 million people who visits McDonald's every month? I know I am.

Last Wednesday evening, a few bloggers and also Quarter Pounder fans were invited to taste the McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese (QPC) just before it is relaunched to the public.

I was told the Quarter Pounder fans have written to McDonald's asking when will the QPC come back. The folks at McDonald's decided to surprise them by inviting them to taste it first before the return of the QPC. Hmmm... You might want to write to them telling them what you want to eat?

This was the Quarter Pounder with Cheese that I had. I was very excited just before opening the box! I must have been really hungry. ;-)

Quarter Pounder

I quickly grabbed the burger out the box! Then I remembered, I got to take photos first!

Did you notice where I placed my burger to take this photo?

On the tray liner! Do you know that the tray liners are food safe?
You can safely put your food on it. I know many people pour their fries on it like me.

Quarter Pounder

Knowing that many people love their beef, McDonald's has also made available the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese! Double the meat! That's half a pound of meat. When they mention half a pound of beef, you know it's half a pound of beef before cooking right?

The last time I had this was in California about a year ago!

Double Quarter Pounder

This next photo shows exactly how the Double QPC was, still sitting in the box, the burger untouched. I just ripped off the sides of the box to take this photo. This is exactly what you will get when you visit any of the 110 McDonald's in Singapore.

Looking at this burger now, I am thinking if only they have sauteed caramelized onions in it! Do you think it will taste good with caramelized onions?

Double Quarter Pounder

The QPC is available now at $4.60 for the burger only and  $7.20 for the set meal.
The Double QPC is available now at $6.10 for the burger only and $8.70 for the set meal.

McDonald's is running a campaign to ask their customers to cast votes to see if the QPC is more beefy or cheesy. Do you think Beef Rules! or Cheese Rocks?

Log on to www.facebook.com/mcdquarterpounder to vote. Every week 500 lucky voters will get a win a limited Beef Rules! or Cheese Rocks! QPC T-Shirt.

By the way, if you are craving for it now, you can order McDelivery!
Call 6777 3777 or surf to http://www.mcdelivery.com.sg/  They deliver 24/7!

Carls Jr @ VivoCity

Momo and I, we were at VivoCity and it was peak dinner time. We wanted something really fast because we were really really hungry.

I am posting this because my brother in UK loves Carl's Jr. Why? I don't know. It was his favourite indulgence. He is hoping that Carl's Jr will go to the UK soon.

Another reason why we went in because we saw this ad outside the shop. I just had to take a photo of this. Took it using my iPhone while ordering my food. You know who they are talking about when they say they don't clown around. LOL....

LOL... double meaning ad!

But when I was going to order the Big Carl, I felt guilty. How can I eat something so so sinful?
At the very last minute, I change my order to the Chicken Salad!
I saw someone eating it and saw it had lots of greens. LOL

Chicken Salad

The salad part above was the healthy part. These things below are the unhealthy ones!
Hmm the dressing is produced in Anaheim, (Disneyland? hehe)

Chicken Salad

The assembled salad. Hmmm. It's ok lah. The chicken was nicer part of this salad.

I usually order the salad at KFC too, and I think the veggies and dressing at KFC is nicer. If KFC would replace their fried chicken with Carl's Jr grilled chicken, it would be the best of both worlds.

Chicken Salad

Momo's portobello burger looks nicer eh? This meat replacement burger looks quite tempting.
Just trying to eat healthier meals before CNY.

Portabello Burger

We did not even order the gassy drinks. You all read in the papers and heard in the news right?
The sugar sweetened carbonated drinks is linked to pancreatic cancer. Sigh...

Orange Juice

Hey bro, we did not eat the fries you like on your behalf too.
You come back and eat it yourself ok? LOL..

McDonald's @ Budget Terminal, Changi Airport.

I was at the Budget Terminal at an unearthly hour of 5 AM a few days ago. Momo's taking a budget flight Macau on a holiday. Got to thank our friend Gorilla who got us there too.

It's amazing that at 5 am, there's so many people at the Budget Terminal. The check-in counters for other flights out had long queue, except for the flight to Macau. It was empty! Momo checked in so quickly that we had lots of time to 'burn'. So what did we do?

Find a place to sit and drink something. It's amazing that after waking up, your stomach gets hungry even if it's 5 in the morning. So I finally had my first McDonald's meal since the Monopoly Game is launched. I was dreaming that I was the one that's going to get the coveted 'Sentosa Cove' sticker!

Sigh.... Did not get it.

The only reason for Mcdonalds.

My favourite breakfast at maccas is not the big breakfast but McGriddles.

Mcgriddles Sausages and Egg

Probably it's also because it's easier to eat! I like the maple syrup in the "pancake bun".
Also, the sausage in the patty form is very salty. I wonder that's the reason I like it? Or maybe, the M mark on the pancake?

Mcgriddles Sausages and Egg

The value meal comes with Hash Browns that I have never finish ever. I think it's just too oily to put in your mouth.

Hash Brown

I always have ice milo with my McGriddles meal.

Ice Milo

Get it at any of the 112 Maccas near you.
(Maccas is the lazy way how Aussies and possibly NZlanders call McDonalds. )

I read a few days ago that Subway will have more branches than McDonald's by early 2011. Hmm.. Which do you prefer?

Popeye's Chicken and Biscuit @ Singapore Flyer

I was here with Momo today (Friday) because we are here for F1 practice race and we had the Singapore Flyer passes.

The only place that you can visibly see lots of people is at Popeye's. Everywhere else seems quiet. So we just followed the crowd.

We had two kinds of meal. The Maxi Meal which almost every table is having. The other was the chicken meal with fries.

Our Popeye's Meal

Chicken strips were ok. The fries was also ok. Somehow the previous time we were here it was better. It just did not taste as nice as before.

Chicken and Fries

The maxi meal had a piece of fried chicken, 2 chicken strips, 2 drumlets, a biscuit and mash potato. It is either my tongue's not sensitive to salt, or it is quite tasteless today. haha...

Maxi Meal

The mash potato was also a little light on taste. I was actually thinking of KFC which has nicer gravy. Sigh. What happened to the nice Popeye's which we had in June 2008? If you compare the photos and what I journaled last time with what we ate today, it's quite a contrast.

Mash Potato

The biscuits that used to have salty crust is also not salty. The chicken strips was the only thing that made us happy. Oh, maybe the softdrinks too.

We hope they buck up, if not, they might end up like most eating places in Singapore with an average shelf life of only 2 years.

Barcelos @ Holland Village

Met up with a few of our friends at Holland Village for dinner. The venue was stated as Barcelos in our sms and we were wondering where it is. Good thing I saw opposite Subway in the same sms, so I was not lost. It's on the same row as Provence / Parisilk if you are wondering.

Barcelos (this branch at Holland Village)

Oh, when I got in, a few other friends and Momo was already there.
Ah.. I know what this place reminds me of. Nando's. Look at the bottle of Peri Peri sauces! Just like those in Nando's ya?

(Nando's a similar Portuguese chicken place that I used to eat in Melbourne when I was studying. They also have branches in Malaysia and the UK. How come it's not in Singapore?)

Peri Peri Sauces

While we were deciding what to eat, we saw a guy next door ordering a chicken set. It smell very very good. But we discovered that he got angry cutting the chicken and just left! How weird!

Anyway, Momo decided to get the 1/4 Chicken Set anyway. The chicken smell as nice as the one we saw earlier. Momo said it was nice, but it would be better if it's a bigger portion. LOL..

Chicken Meal

Another friend ordered the Beef Burger.
You can order either 1 or 2 patties. They will also ask you if you want cheese, by topping up another 75 cents.

Beef Burger

One friend who we know always 'got to' eat rice ordered the rice dish. (just as the rest of us predicted he will).
He had the Chicken Stir Fry & Rice.

Chicken Stir Fry and Rice

Our friend who was the organiser for this meet up ordered the Prego Steak Burger.
He had the two slices burger. Ordered it medium done. One patty came out as ordered, but one came out well done. (They got only half of it right. haha)

Prego Steak Burger

I had the Garlic Burger. Like all the above, it came with fries. This is how it looks.
I had mine Mild Peri.

Garlic Burger

The burger's not bad. The bun was soft and it absorbs the sauce very well.
I tried all the 4 sauces that's available with the chicken and bun.

Garlic Burger

They are pricier than your usual Mcdonalds or KFC burgers. But it's not really fair to compare them as it is not really in the same category.

It does not come with drinks, but you can order the 'bottomless softdrinks' for $2.95 where you can keep refilling your drinks from the self service drink machine. ;-)

It costs an average of $15 per person, depending on your order.
Check their website for the full menu and pricing.

(Psssst, I think Nando's tastes better. hehe)

Yakiniku Rice @ Mos Burger

I do indulge in fast food once in a while. I have not been to Mos Burger for a long long time. This was a quickly lunch with my teenage cousin. She said that what we are gonna eat is really really nice.

I thought I will save on calories and ordered Diet Coke. Ah Pui! So synthetic tasting. But the design of the made is bearable. LOL. Their design on the cups are so simple and yet it looks nice ya? It's what I call a 'muji' look.

Mos Burger

If you like thin fries, most people will say go for McDonald's fries.
If you like real potato and not processed flour shaped into fries, go to Carl's Jr.
But if you like thick fries, or some call it chips, then you should go for Mos Burger's.

Mos Burger Fries

They are quite tasty chips.

But they are not as nice as the ones in KFC Australia. Eating these chips suddenly reminds me of the KFC Australia chips my classmates and I used to eat in Melbourne. Their chips are topped with onion, salt, garlic, pepper and sugar powder. They taste absolutely delicious! (Anyone who has eaten them?)

Mos Burger Fries

OK, back to Mos Burger. This is the burger that my cousin said is really nice. The Yakiniku Rice burger. It's packed so nicely too!

Yakiniku Rice

When you open the wrapper, you get to see juicy and yummy beef!

But they are packed in a way that the meat's all on top. It takes skills to eat this burger so that your last mouth will still have meat and rice. I am not one of the skilled ones. I end up eating the beef first and ended with two slices of rice cakes.

Only teenagers like my cousin who eat this often know how to eat it till your last mouth has still some beef and rice cakes.

Yakiniku Rice

You can get them at Mos Burger outlets island wide. They have shrimp burgers too, but my cousin said, nah, those are not nice. hehe..

Burger King @ IMM

This was last night's dinner. Sis and I rushed to IMM from our home because we needed to get something before the shops closes.

We got up the cab and cab driver asked which way, as usual we say to the driver: "You know best, you choose the route". Most cab drivers will go another way, and when this driver took another route, sis and I look at each other, (as if we go could communicate via the eye,) thinking this is another of those bring you round the island scammer. But we were so so wrong!

The driver's route through Bukit Batok is actually one dollar cheaper than the usual route! When sis and I got down, we said, we thought it's going to be a longer route, but this driver is one who really knows the route around. We were so wrong in judging people so early.

We were hungry and did not have much time, so we ate at Burger King. I think we said Hungry Jack's. (Hungry Jack's the name they used for BK in Australia.) It's been a long time since we had BK because BK's student's food while studying long long ago. Our minds seems to have been wired to avoid it since we came back from Aust.

I saw that there's a new burger. Spicy Tendercrisp. Sounds delicious so I ordered it.
Pardon the chilli sauce on the tray liner, do you all do that too? lol..

Spicy Tendercrisp

The burger...

Spicy Tendercrisp

The bun looks like a peach right? With the line in the middle!

Spicy Tendercrisp

After taking a few bites, I thought I should photographed it. lol
It's juicy right? (or juice plus oil haha)

Spicy Tendercrisp

Sis wanted the Whopper. But when I ordered it they said Whopper's run out! "Wah. Can run out one ah?" So I ordered the Whopper Jr for her instead.

Whopper Junior

Why do burgers look better on photos than they really taste? LOL...

Whopper Junior

Have a great weekend!

Fortune Feast @ KFC

Yes, I do eat KFC and no, this is not a sponsored post. :-)

The TV advertisement got into me, and I wanted to eat Fried Chicken. So, yesterday, Momo, Sis and I had the Fortune Feast. $28.80.

The advertisement had a bucket overflowing with chicken. But it sure did not fill this bucket that I had. :-)

The fortune feast bucket.

It still had 8 pieces. We had a mix of original and crispy. Lots of drumsticks inside because we did not want to wait for the next batch to be ready.

8 pieces of chicken. (Original and Spicy)

The feast comes with this Golden Delights Snack Platter.

Golden Delights Snack Platter

There's pop corn chicken (which is the nicest of the lot here), Golden Shrimp Coins (too little shrimp but more batter taste), and Crispy Strips.

Popcorn Chicken, Golden Shrimp Coins, Crispy Strips

The coleslaw. Medium. I think they should upgrade it to a large.

Coleslaw

A medium potato. Anyone of you think that the sauce is different nowadays? I thought they use to taste nicer.

Mash Potato

They initially forgot these Hong Baos. After eating halfway, I remembered, one of the reason I wanted to eat KFC was because I was 'tempted' by their advert that says I could win $888. (ya right... LOL)

Lucky Hong Bao

What did I get? $1 off a 2 pcs meal.
In fact, all 4 Hong Baos were the $1 off kind. (I guess they did not shuffle the cards? haha)

Wow, I won something..

The advert has 2 grandparents, dad, mum and daughter having the meal. This will only feed 3 persons. Drinks not included.

Compare this version above to their advert at http://www.kfc.com.sg/latestpromo/fortunefeast.asp hehe...
