Sean Kee Duck Rice @ Geylang Lorong 35

We used to come to this place, all the way in Geylang from our office in the western side of Singapore. We liked this place because one of our colleagues grew up eating it and the previous older uncle (who has since retired) was still manning the stall.

That colleague has left us for a few years but we suddenly thought of him because of some project that he did, at the same time we thought of having duck rice as well. So we went all the way to Geylang to have some delicious duck.



The stall still looks the same. The older uncle is not at the stall, but it's his sons taking over now.
We are not sure how long the uncle has retired since we haven't been visiting.

One colleague ordered (so I am not sure whether it was a portion for 6 of us or was it a whole duck). We were too hungry and wanted to eat.



The rice still looks the same. Nice grainy yam rice with the bit of 'lor' over it.
The soup is still the herbal taste sweetish and salty soup. Some like it, some don't.



The first platter that served to us was the sides of tofu, tau kwa, eggs, and other innards of the duck. It was tasty as we started eating. Some things that we don't know what it was, but we just ate it because it tasted nice on the first bite! We did not ask because the all looked busy and we did not want to disturb them.

Yes, every platter served was covered with the thick yummy gooey braised sauce.



Finally the duck arrived. Nicely chopped duck arranged flat on a bed of cucumbers and bean sprouts. There's some braised peanuts too on the sides. The wonderful braised sauce poured all over. It's still as dark and messy as ever! It's not as salty as it looks, but a little on the sweet side.

The duck was still tender as ever and it goes well with the braised sauce. Put some duck, a few  bean sprouts, cucumber on your rice and slurp it down. Something very comforting for those who loves braised sauces over their rice.
 The taste is almost the same as we remembered it to be, maybe the older uncle's version might be more fragrant. We did notice the younger boss now is more generous with the meat. Sometimes we appreciate the quantity when we are really hungry.

Still a place that we will come back for braised duck when we are not so busy and can travel further to eat. Colleague paid around $50 for our meal.

Paradise on Earth @ Tanjong Katong

This might sound silly, but we do silly things don't we? It was one of our colleague's birthday. But when we told him we wanted to celebrate by treating him lunch, he declined. (This guy is known to take leave on his birthday the last few years, but this year he came to work, but still did not want to join us for lunch hmm..)

So guess what? We all still decided that we shall have a nice meal outside, celebrating his birthday on his behalf without him. (We gluttons just want to find a reason to go out and eat)

'Old Cat' has been wanting to go to have Steamboat at this place in Tanjong Katong for a long time. After the first time they were there, they have been wanting to go back. I got to join them this time (Tuesday this week).

What an interesting name ya? Paradise on Earth.




While we were thinking what to eat, we were served achar. It's quite delicious you know. Yes, it was gone in less than 1 minute!



There was 5 kinds of soup base to choose from, we chose the 'dried scallop' and the 'mala' soup. (The others are tom yam, satay and I can't remember the fifth.
This place use induction cookers. No gas fumes. yey!



We took the lunch buffet and we got to pick from the "B" and "C" menu. This is our first round. We had like 3 and a half rounds.



From the menu, if you order the fried rice, it comes fried. (No you do not need to fry it yourself haha) It is quite delicious too!



I think this is one of the quality steamboats you can find that is still priced reasonably.
You really get a satisfied meal. Just as with any steamboat meals, you enjoy the cooking process and the chatting time while you wait for the food to cook.



To avoid crowds, come in the afternoon. We were the only table there, so service was excellent. The food's fresh too.

Ya Kwang Dai Pai Dong @ 709 Geylang Road

Today, my sis and I had lunch with Camemberu and Southernoise at Ya Kwang. It was good to see Southernoise after like 12 years! and finally got to meet Camemberu & Nadine.

We had arranged this lunch a long time ago just to try the Crab Bee Hoon. But alas, the flight that brought the crabs got delayed or something like that and there was no crabs for us today.




No crabs? No worries, as there's other things to eat.

This is the 'clam noodles' (or you can call it al dente 'vongole pasta' chinese style. It's 'lala ban mian ala western style', which taste very good. We had wanted to eat the 'lala' alone, but was recommended by Jason (the owner) that you should eat it with the noodles. We ordered a double portion of clams with 1 portion of noodles to try. The gravy there is yummilicious!



We also had this veg dish with mushrooms. The mushroom goes very well with this veg with a bitter tip. It was fried with lots of garlic and it was yummy for a garlic fan like me ;-)



People who comes here will always try this. The rib-eye terriyaki.
It looks a bit different this time compared to the last time I was here, but it was still good.



We had Char Kuey Teow as well. I am a CKT fan, so I will just eat it whenever I see it, done any style. This is the Penang Style CKT.



We got to try the Salmon Head Steamed Hong Kong style. It was recommended by Jason. OK lah. It was nice but I think my sis who don't like fish with fishy smell did not really touch it. LOL. All on the table thinks Salmon should only be eaten as sashimi. (or grilled).



We also had fried chicken wings. Somehow, I did not have the picture in my camera, and I think camemberu did not have it as well. LOL. Why ah? Too busy eating and playing with Nadine lor.

We were joined by ieat and family who said he might pop by. He did. It was interesting to see ieat & Jason experimenting new dishes on the fly, next thing you know, something new appears on the table! Next time you are there, you might want to try the "Teriyaki Beef Hor Fun" that was concocted today. (Beef strips with yummy caramelized onions on hor fun.)

Ya Kwang Dai Pai Dong @ 709 Geyland Road

This was eaten yesterday. I was too tired to post it so I posted yesterday, so the Tau Huey got posted first. (less photos mah.... hehe..) Anyway.....

When we were all concentrating at work yesterday, suddenly my yahoo messenger pop up with the words: "Lunch at: http://ieatishootipost.blogspot.com/2008/01/ya-kwang-dai-pai-dong-different-cze.html ?" Of course we all said "sure". Read Doc Leslie's blog to read more about this place.

Our makan coordinator at work must have planned it all, coz another colleague who usually parks his car at his wife's workplace (with free parking), decided to park at our workplace. So, we got two cars to drive all the way to Geylang.

The first car arrived much earlier and ordered the food. We arrived just in time to makan.

Anyway, we had this fabulous Char Kuey Teow. There's the $4 version and the $8 version. We thought that we ordered the $8 version, but the $4 version came. Of course the $4 is not enough to feed 8 hungry gluttons like us. So after this arrived, we ordered another $8 portion of it. (confused? :-0)

Delicious, but just a tad too salty for half of us who had more sensitive tongue. We will still eat another plate though. haha...



There was a great disappointment. We were told no crabs!!! Aiyo, they also did not have crabs over at the owner's parents shop nearby. Alamak, how? So we settled for cereal prawns. "Boh Jim, Hey Mah Hor"



To replace the crab, we also had this delicious sotong. The sambal makes us 'gian' for more. If you like spicy stuff, eat this. Cooked just right, no rubbery texture.




Aha. This is delicious. Very delicious. Rib eye with teriyaki sauce. Lots of onions! Heavenly.. The meat was tender, juicy and chunky. Yes, we had double servings of this.



We also had chicken wings.



Our only veg. Ti Wang Miao.



OK, we shall be back another day for our crabs.
Be warned... we were very thirsty by 3 or 4 pm. haha..

$130 plus for all of the above plus drinks. The expensive part is actually the parking fine that our colleague got. Urrghh.. extra $50 to the bill.

Rochor Beancurd House @ Geylang Road

Today after lunch we walked a few shops away to have some beancurd. Since we are so near, might as well right? (Sounds so kiasu hor.. haha..)

There was 8 of us, and 7 of us had the tau huay. Some like it cold, some like it hot. (Sounds like a nursery rhyme right? )

We went to this famous one lah..



All of you are bright people, you can guess which is the cold beancurd and which is the hot ones.



Just in case you don't know.... The hot one comes in bowls.



The cold ones are taken out from the fridge and they are in plastic containers.



Yes, it was nice and smooth. Delicious!
