De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

Another burger place that you should visit if you are into burgers. We met up with some friends that we have not met for sometime for dinner. We were thinking of where to go and they finally said they felt like eating burgers and want to try De Burg.

It's a burger place that serves really good and huge burgers in a Kopitiam! The burgers that comes out of this little kitchen turns out really good and satisfying.

Just that on some warm nights, you wish it was cooler so that you can enjoy the burgers more.

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

Look at their tables! Wrapped as if they are picnic tables!

We were there for dinner, so only the burger shop, another western food shop and the drinks stall were opened. Heard the western food shop is really good too.

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

After ordering your food, you get this buzzer.

Notice that it says burgers are not fast food. It is to tell you that it will take time for the orders to be ready. It took us nearly 30 minutes for the buzzer to sound for our orders.

It's cook to order, and if there are lots of customers, you got to wait. Bring a book to read or iPad along so that you can play Candy Crush. See if the burgers come first or you can clear the tough levels first! ;-)

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

De Burg ($18.50)
This is their signature burger, the burger named after the place. It's quite a huge burger!

It's 200 gm of Australian Striploin Patty, BBQ Sauce, Cheese, Grilled Crispy Bacon, Grilled Portobello, Salad, Tomato Slice, Onions and Mayo.

Tell me which of the ingredients you don't like? I like all of it!
One of our friend had this.

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

The Richmond ($19.40)

This was my burger. It's called the Richmond and according to the menu, it's named after Don Richmond. Why? Not written there. Maybe you can ask them next time you are there.

Can you see what's the different between the first burger and this? It's basically the same thing plus a layer of Peanut Butter below! Yes, peanut butter!

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

Since this is the burger I was eating, I can take my time taking a couple more photos of it. The ring of mayo on the bun. So clever isn't it? Look at the photo before the above and you can see the effect on it on the burger. Looks like an extra layer doesn't it?

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

A zoom-in of the burger. A huge piece of portobello that was so juicy. A little crispy bacon giving it a nice crisp. I tell you, when you make your own burger at home, spread some peanut butter on it! The beef patty was also nicely done.

I should have cut it cross section to take photos, but I was already too hungry. Everyone on the table were already digging into their burgers!

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

The Singhjector ($17.50)

Another burger with an interesting name. On the menu, it says it's named after Sunit Singh, which is their number 1 fan. Sorry, I don't know who Sunit is.

It's a very porky burger. It's 200 grams of Australian Pork Patty, Iberico Chorizo, Grilled Crispy Bacon, Cheese, BBQ Sauce and Mayo.

As I am looking at this now, I feel like going back soon to try this. Was a bit shy to pinch other people's food when we were all so hungry after the long wait!

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

De Burg @ Bukit Merah Lane

I can't really tell which is which for the remaining 2 burgers. On the receipt that I had, there's still the Cheeseburger ($13.50) and Mushroom Cheese ($14.90) that should be these two burgers.

I think photo right above this is the mushroom cheese. It's suppose to have a portobello on it. I remember the wife ordering the mushroom cheese and she always removes her onions, so this must be hers! The portobello must have been hidden below the salad leaf.

So, should you visit this place?

The burgers here are good. Maybe I should say it's great. Patties I have been told are just meat without fillers. The menu looks interesting. There's upgrades like adding an addition 100grams of meat to the existing 200g burger. That would be so huge! There's Wagyu upgrade as well.

For some burger like the mushroom and cheeseburgers, there's also the 100gm versions too. So for those who don't like too much meat, you can order that.

The prices of the burgers includes the side dishes. For 100gm burgers you can have 1 side. For 200gm burgers, you get to choose 2 side dishes. For all our burgers, we had chips and salad.

The heat might make you feel a little uncomfortable. We just happen to go on a very warm night. We ordered so many drinks to cool down while waiting for our burgers. When the burgers arrived, we ate and forgot about the slight discomfort.

Ikea Restaurant @ Ikea Alexandra

One of the places that I love to have a meal is Ikea. It's always the same things so I have not been posting photos of it. I thought I saw something different, so here are some new photos for updates ;-)

The 15 balls, Ikea Swedish Meat Balls

The Swedish meatballs now have a small swedish flag!
It's because there's some Swedish Food promotion this month it seems.
The 15 pieces meatballs is on discount.

For buying meatballs, you get a piece of this cake that's covered with sweet sweet marzipan for free. It taste a bit too sweet for some on our table, but I think it's ok.

Meatballs with Pasta

For those who don't like meatballs with potatoes, they have meatballs with pasta too.

Fried Chicken Wings

The 'die die' must order for the ladies chicken wings.

Lingonberry Drink

I noticed they now serve Lingonberry drink from the dispenser now.
Yup, it's refillable and you can use your Ikea Friends coupon to exchange for the drinks.

Lingonberry Drink

Oh by the way, if you want to try Halal version of the meatballs, Ikea Tampines has them.
They have halal version of the meatballs, made from chicken and beef instead of pork and beef.

Ikea Restaurant @ Alexandra

This was dinner at Ikea Restaurant @ Alexandra.

If you are a Ikea Friends Card member, you would most probably have this postcard from them giving you specially discounted "Swedish Meatballs"  or "Poached Salmon" dishes. Yes, that's the reason why we are at Ikea.

What a coincidence too. We saw uncle and family there too. They bought us a try of the Ikea Sashimi Yusheng. It's probably the cheapest yusheng you can get in Singapore. It's only $5! ;-)

It's not very big, overall not very tasty. But the thing that made you want to pay $5 is the salmon sashimi. The salmon's not salmon belly, but OK lah!

One reason it was not as tasty was because there's no 'oil' to pour over it. Also not enough veggies. ;-)

Ikea Salmon Yu Sheng

After tossing it, this is the little bit that's left.

Ikea Salmon Yu Sheng

The reason we were here was the Swedish Meatballs. With the postcard 'coupon', the plate of meatballs only $4 instead of the usual $6.50.

Swedish Meat Balls..

Another friend had the Poached Salmon. (no photos though...)

Oh yes, the chicken wings. With the yusheng container, we did not have enough space on the small tables, so the chicken wings were all 'distributed' to the individual plates.

Hmmm. Has the taste of the chicken wings changed? Everyone said it tasted the same, but I thought it was a bit different. Hmmm...

The usual chicken wings

It was a 'cheap' dinner at Ikea. We never had $4 meatballs before! LOL..

Tea Time @ Ikea Alexandra

Sis and I were at Ikea to grab some stuff for our home. So while we were there, we got our 'free' drinks. Sis saw the Ikea Friend's meal was the meat balls and decided to get them. ($5)

Notice anything different? There's no potatoes! It's chips (thick fries) this time. They most probably ran out of potatoes!

Ikea Meatballs

Sis got this cake that she likes too. The Ikea Daim Cake. $3.50
Anyone out there a fan of this delicious cake?

Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe @ Anchorpoint

Our office mates wanted to celebrate a birthday for one colleague, but the colleague was too 'shy'. Finally she relented and said she will join us for lunch. Her pick for the place for lunch was any Hong Kong Cafe kind of food.

We finally settled for Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe at Anchorpoint.

What did we have? The HK style ice milk tea in steel containers.

Ice Tea in a metal container

Super thick toast with butter and condensed milk. It was quite nice!

Super Thick Toast

We ordered individual items for each person and shared some.
These are what we had.

Instant Noodles with luncheon meat and sunny side up. The birthday girl's lunch. Looks delicious eh?

Pasta with Luncheon Meat and Egg

Another colleague had the Black Pepper Steak with pasta. She seems to enjoy it too.

Pasta with Pepper Steak

I had Sweet and Sour Pork Chop with Pasta. I like the sweet and sour pork. It was tender and I think I like sweet and sour stuff. ;-)

Pasta with Pork Chop

Two other colleagues had baked rice. Since they look the same, I just took one of it. We scrapped off the cheese top to show you pork chop rice. ;-)

We shared a mushroom and cabbage dish.

When we were going to pay the bill, one of the 'salesperson' came to sell us their 'Peng You' card. We told them I already had one, but did not bring it. She quickly asked if any of us had our birthday this month. We said it's one of our colleague's birthday.

Boy was she a good sales lady, she took the bill, circled this and that and said this will be free if you have the card, you get discounts, you get a gift too and some other things we did not catch. Before we knew it, it was assumed we wanted that card! She came back with the sign up form and our colleague got her birthday gift and she got treated lunch by the rest of us plus a discount card and vouchers for her own next visit. LOL...

Jason Penang Cuisine @ ABC Brickworks Food Centre

Part of today's lunch. 'Wire' drove us to ABC Brickworks Food Centre today.

We know that there is this famous 'shao la' stall there. We kinda stop eating it because they probably got complacent after being quite famous. Not sure if the rest of you think so, but our taste buds tells us so.

So we tried other food, but it was unmemorable too. The worse thing was that the rice that 'dpuk' and I had from one stall was hard, probably did not add enough water. Don't they taste their own food I wonder?

But the saving grace was this Penang Char Kuey Teow we shared. It was delicious. 'Wire' who recommended it, bought us a plate to try. Nice..... The rest of us will be back to try other stuff now that we have tasted their CKT and it's not bad. :-)

jason penang cuisine @ ABC Market

Note from wire is that you need to order the 'large' portion. The small is too small for most people. :-)

Penang Char Kuey Teow

We was also happy because we discovered a stall that still sells $1 cendol! It was quite nice too! Smooth ice and loads of gula melaka. hehe...

Zhou's Kitchen @ Anchorpoint

Last month, I posted a similar 'pig out' at Zhou's Kitchen. That was for cousin's birthday. This time it's aunt's birthday and she wants to go back there.

This time however we are trying from another branch of Zhou's Kitchen, the Anchorpoint branch.

Here's an aerial view of the delicious food we had. The 10 of us ate so much. We were being filled, filled till we want no more!

Buffet Hi Tea at Zhou's Kitchen

Shall not make this too long. There are just too many photos when you eat a buffet. Just posting some photos of the food that we particularly liked.

The keropok of course! With the sweet chilli sauce.

Keropok

The century egg pickled dish. We sure had many portions of this.

Century Egg Pickle

This was another favourite, we like the garlicy taste of it. The sauce and the pork slices just is so appetizing.

Garlic White Pork Slices

The Ngor Hiong and the sweet chilli sauce.

Ngo Hiong

The Char Siu Pow is nice. So is this Char Siu Sou.

Char Siu Sou

These mini egg tarts are a real hit! The little ones sure like it a lot!

Mini Egg Tarts

I like French Beans, so of course I'll say it's nice.

Fried French Beans

I am not a fan of this, but many people on the table liked it. Ku Chai Pastry. I think Ku Chai is a very acquired taste!

Ku Chai Pastry

Many liked the cold meats too. This is the sliced cold beef. The drunken chicken was not too bad too.

Cold Meat

If you have more than 6 eating, you get this crab.

Steamed Crab

For dessert, this was once hot favourite. Peanut Tang Yuan.
We also loved the mango and guiling gao dessert.

Peanut Tang Yuan

There seems to be many buffets going around. Eat in moderation!
Happy Birthday Aunt!

Ikea Dining @ Ikea Alexandra

It's furniture shopping days these few weeks. Our family moved to a new place recently and we have been very busing packing and unpacking.

Two days ago, we ordered some furniture from the Scanteak warehouse sale in the morning. In the afternoon, we continued our furniture shopping at Ikea. At Ikea we were surprised that the "Kitchen showroom" came alive. Ikea ladies were baking! The whole place had a wonderful aroma because they were making/baking Swedish Gingersnap, Swedish Cinnamon Buns and Swedish Soffron Bun. We tried some and they were delicious too.

After spending a few hours looking at measurement, deciding on colour, we decided to break for dinner at the Ikea Restaurant. What did we have?

Brother and I had the Christmas Hot Plate Set that was on special at $10. (Usually $15 plus). The hot plate consists of 3 slices of Ham, a carving of Turkey, some carrots and potatoes and a bun. The turkey's looks a bit dry outside, but it was juicy inside though.

The set also comes with soup and (another) bun.

It also comes with a little Christmas log cake and tea/coffee. The cake's very moussey and chocolatey. (If there's such a word. haha)

Momo and sis had the Ikea Local meals instead. Local meal set was Nasi Briyani for Saturday.
(Oh, the chicken wing you see is additional)

Poh Cheu @ Alexandra Village

Sis, Momo and I had lunch at Alexandra Village and after lunch on a Saturday, we saw this long queue. Sis asked what's the queue about, I told her it's the famous Ang Ku Kway stall.

Sis thought of aunt who loves these kueh kueh stuff. We thought, we shall be nice nephew and niece and buy them some afternoon snack on the way home.

Yes, the queue's long.......
But it clears very fast. It's just point point and pack pack, so you don't really wait that long.

Momo had this pack of Koo Chai Kueh for her parents.

Sis and I were a bit 'mad'. We ordered one of each thing that they sell.
Our cousin loves sticky rice, so this is for her. Cousin loved it very much.

Aunt loves the "serng pua chee", the Yam Cakes shaped like Abacus, so this is for her too.

This box had the assortment of kueh kueh. The pink rice cake. Below it is the Yam Cake, Koo Chai Kueh, Soon Kueh, etc...

And their assortment of "ang ku kueh". They have all kinds of flavours, durian included! (the yellow one).

Other flavours includes Mango, Peanut, Green Bean, Yam, Salted Bean, Coconut, Red Bean, Coffee & Green Tea)
