This was today's lunch. It's our company's annual lunch. Many companies organise "dinner and dance" at the end of the year, but for ours, we always have our Chinese New Year Lunch.
The lunch is usually held on the 7th day of the Lunar New Year. But since the 7th day is on a Saturday this year and we don't work on Saturdays, the lunch was held on the 6th day instead. (i.e. today). The 7th day of the Lunar New Year is known as Everyone's Birthday. We usually celebrate our birthday with everyone in the organisation. :-)
The first dish was the Salmon Yu Sheng.
It seems all the tables have a double plate of salmon. (yey!). Probably to have a 'hao zhao tou' (auspicious)?
That's the server preparing the 'ceremony' for us.
Sorry sharks. But it was not me who ordered this.We ate it because we did not want you to die in vain.
The Braised Shark's Fin with Crab Meat and Golden Mushroom.
When it says crab meat in the menu, there's real and not fake crab meat inside!
The Poached Live Prawns with Chinese Wine.
This was good! Fresh prawns always taste good!
We had Steamed Live Soon Hock Hong Kong Style as the next dish.
Steamed fish always taste good. But we realised that it's two small Soon Hock instead of 1 big one.
Are they saving money ordering smaller fish? Or good things always comes in pairs? :-p
The Roast Duck was next.
Nice roasted duck! Not too fatty too! Everyone wallop it all up instantly!
For the 'vege' dish, we had the Braised Shell Abalone and Bailing Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetables.
You know something? I think cooked lettuce is nice! Some vegetables that we usually have it raw taste nice cooked. (Same with cucumber! Stir fry cucumber with eggs taste good too!)
This dish is to stuff people up if they are still not full at this stage of the lunch.
We were already quite full!
It's Fried Glutinous Rice with Chinese Sausage. After frying it, it becomes super super sticky!
Super sticky so that we won't say anything bad about the bosses for the coming year? hehe....
I like it. Sticky but it was tasty.
After sticking our mouths, we are served sweet desserts.
Chilled Mango Cream with Sago.
Here's to all readers who have followed my food diary a very "Sweet Year ahead!".
May everything you do, be as smooth as this mango cream too!
Not sure who prepared the food.
Lunch was held at the NUSS Guild House ballroom. (So many tables it looks like a wedding feast)
We guess it's probably done by the Scholar Chinese Restaurant situated at the Guild House.

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
We are here again! Colleagues and I did not want to join the mad queues at the NUS Canteens. We wanted somewhere where there is air conditioning as well.
So, we went to Cafe on the Ridge. Yes, someone ordered the usual stuff we have here. You know what it is right?
But I thought I will have something different. I had the Mee Rebus Ayam Penyet.
I ordered it because I saw the word Ayam Penyet. :-)
"Boleh Tahan Lah".
Old Cat had the 'red ink noodles' aka Indian Mee Goreng.
We wonder why do they have to add the 'colouring'? Without it, it would taste totally different right?
Just realise they are both yellow noodle dishes.
I usually don't eat yellow noodles! Do you like yellow noodles?

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
The food I ate on the very last day of work last year. We were so so busy, yet we wanted to have something different.
We took a ride to Cafe on the Ridge. There was a buffet going on, but we did not really want to end our year by eating ourselves silly. (Though the buffet cost like only $2 more than our meals!)
One colleague decided he wanted to have Char Kuey Teow.
The rest of us, that was like the other 5 of us, had exactly the same thing.
Oh, no, we have been colleagues for like 10 years, has our taste become so similar now???
We like this because it is special. Istimewa means special in Malay/Indonesian.
We like to taste everything. Beef Rendang, Sambal Prawns, Spicy Chicken, Acar, Fried Egg, Fried Rice and of course Keropok!
But the chicken was errrr, not the chicken we were used to today. But everything else was nice.

Nasi Lemak Buffet @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
Was it "Eat Nasi Lemak Week" last week?
On Thursday I ate Nasi Lemak. On Friday, I had Nasi Lemak again! Friday's Nasi Lemak was a Nasi Lemak Buffet! It was all because a friend who likes to eat rice wanted to go for it. He was buzzing me on msn since last month, when we found out it was Nasi Lemak buffet in September.
5 of us went to the buffet. This was how I 'tackle' the buffet. Just a bit of everything. 3 cucumbers, 2 pieces of Ayam Masak Merah (I like this), 2 rings of sotong, 1 tiny sausage, some achar.
A piece of rendang (which was very nice), a piece of fried egg (which happen to taste very good too), a scoop of sambal mussels and the sambal chilli.
Hehe... I took more ingredients on another plate. A fried fish, fried lao su fen, fish cakes, jiu hu eng chai, luncheon meat, fried chicken wing and hard boil egg.
When I finish eating them, I am already stuffed. I think it's quite impossible to eat a lot for a Nasi Lemak buffet.
We also had some Kuih Pai Tee. Beautiful isn't it?
Laksa is included as part of the buffet too. (the Laksa was nice!)
I certainly did not attempt to try everything. I don't want the suffer the 'i can't sleep because i ate too much' feeling. I just ate the things I felt like eating. :-)
But our 'rice friend', plonked so much things on his plate! LOL.
Guess what? The next day he texted me and said, next time he's not going for buffet at night. He could not sleep! He was feeling so bloated the whole night!
I realise that I did not eat most of the things he took on his plate.
Get a Guild House member to bring you in if you want to try it. :-)
Not the best Nasi Lemak in town, our 'rice friend' said the rice was not fragrant enough. But if you are in for variety of dishes for your Nasi Lemak, then it's worth coming. There are more things like Roti Jala and various stew that we had no more room in our stomach to try!

Chicken Rice Buffet @ Cafe on the Ridge, NUSS
Last week, our colleague 'pirate' spotted this advert on the NUSS website. It's a Chicken Rice buffet!
There are all kinds of buffet nowadays eh? Chicken Rice buffet is something new! This is one of the more economical buffet at only $10.90 on a weekday. So, we thought we would try it out.
If you think it's only chicken, then you are wrong. There are many other things!
Here's what on their website, their highlights includes: Hainanese Steamed Chicken, Crispy Roasted Chicken, Sliced Beef Congee, Shredded Chicken Congee, Steamed Fish Head in Homemade Special Sauce, Pan Fried Curried Prawn, Sambal Sotong, Braised Beancurd with Leek in Hot Bean Sauce, Stir Fried Hong Kong Kailan in Minced Garlic Sauce, Stewed Mui Choy Kong Bak
Wait! That's not all! It seems, they have other sides as well.
As usual, we folks are getting 'older' and know eating too much is no good. LOL! So we only ate 'some' of it, and here's what we had.
The Crispy Roasted Chicken.
Not bad not bad!
Char Siu.
Ok lah...
Hainanese Steamed Chicken
This is quite nice too. You can tell them which part you want and they will chop it for you!
Some of the sides we took. Jiu Hu Eng Cai and some Achar.
They have chicken feet salad too! And tofu skin salad.
Good boys and girls eat their vegetables. :-p
Stewed Mui Choy Kong Bak.
This is a bit too salty for most of us!
Now, the porridge counter is interesting!
You pick what you want on a metal bowl, and pass it to the chef who will cook it for you immediately. I had beef slices and fish (what a weird combi!) porridge.
Other colleagues had pork liver which they adore....
Of all the desserts, we like the Konnyaku the most!
We started with 3 pieces to try it out....
We found that it's nice! We got more! (And even more after. haha)
The buffet's only in the month of August. Last month it was the Bak Kut Teh buffet. I wonder what's next month's!
Am sure our colleague 'pirate' will inform us. hehe...

CNY Lunch @ NUS Kent Ridge Guild House
We usually have our company's annual CNY lunch on "ren ri" (Day of Man) which is the 7th day of the Lunar New Year. But this year's 7th day falls on a Sunday so we had our lunch on the 8th day instead.
Here we are, colleagues and I tossing the Yu Sheng! Oh, we just love playing with food! LOL...
For those who don't know, Yu Sheng is a dish that's invented in Singapore.
The Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng that we ate.
The 2nd course was Braised Shark's Fin with Crabmeat and Bamboo Pith.
(Sorry shark)
The 3rd course: Poach Live Prawns with Chinese Wine and Herbs.
The 4th course: Cantonese Style Roast Chicken.
The 5th course: Deep Fried Soon Hock with superior soy sauce.
Oh, really crispy! Most of us would have preferred if it was steamed.
The 6th course: Braised Shell Abalone and Bailing Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetables.
We found the abalone tough. The mushroom and veg taste so much better.
The 7th course: Braised E-fu noodles with Dried Scallop.
(Hmm did not taste any scallop at all. )
Chilled Mango Cream with Sago.
It was quite an enjoyable lunch. The food's good and the lovely bunch of colleagues too.
Happy Birthday to all and Blessed New Year too.

Dim Sum Lunch - The Scholar @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
It's the last working day of the year for our organisation. We don't work on the 31 Dec because the President of our organisation wants to reward all the hardworking staff with a day off. (And because of this, we work very hard for the rest of the year. Really!)
So for the last lunch for the year, we thought we will just go have something quick and fast and cost like $2-3. But one colleague, 'old cat' looked at the rest of us and gave a disapproving look, a look that shouts out "how can?".
We decided to take a bus ride to the Computing/Business School side of NUS to dine at The Scholars instead. We decided to have a 'Dian Xin' lunch. How appropriate. 'Dian Xin' means 'touch the heart' in mandarin and we are closing the year with a 'touch the heart' lunch with colleagues.
We had a century egg congee, $3 which was nice. (But the photo was not, so not showing it here. :-))
Then came the Fried Carrot Cake. $4 This version looks so crispy right? Soft in the inside and crispy in the inside.
Next was two steamers of Har Gow. $4 for each steamer. Each one was packed with prawns. It was like 3 prawns in each!
The two steamers of Siew Mai that came next was also good. $4 each steamer.
It did not have a strong meaty smell, and the combi of pork and prawns was nice. It's huge too.
Next to arrive was the Char Siu Chee Cheong Fun. $4
This Chee Cheong Fun was overflowing with Char Siu! Not some stingy a few pieces ones.
As usual, we always order the Phoenix Claws. $4.
These chicken feet's well marinated.
To top it off, we had half a roast duck. $22. The duck's not too bad.
We were also eye-ing the next table which had Peking Duck. LOL...
It was a heart warming lunch. Thanks to "old cat" who decided to treat us too.

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
This was dinner two nights ago at Cafe on the Ridge. Sis was around NUS and I was there too, so we decided to have dinner at Cafe on the Ridge.
Sis had the Laksa with a big "you tiao" in it. It has a very thick gravy and sis seems to enjoy it. I had a sip of the gravy, it's quite ok. ;-)
I had the Nasi Goreng Kampung which I posted just last month. Just click on the link to see the photos taken then.
I did not take photo that night because I was sitting at the 'darker side' of the table. They use fancy spot lights and only part of the table is bright. LOL

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House
Today, a colleague was very 'gian' (extreme urge) to go try the food at Cafe on the Ridge again. He is so 'gian' that he said he will treat all of us. And.... the glutton side of us yielded to his request. LOL...
Cafe on the Ridge is located at the new NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House.
It has a nice, modern contemporary look too. The colours they have chosen are bold too! Green and orange all over!
I had the Nasi Goreng Kampung. Previously at the old cafe, they had satay. It has now been replaced with beef rendang. It's still a huge portion with Fried Rice, Keropok, Sambal Prawns, Sunny Side up, Beef Rendang and Chicken Drumstick and achar.
Just turning the plate around to see the other side. Think it's around $9 if you round it up.
The daily set meal for the day was Nasi Lemak. Dpuk had this.
It looks really delicious too. A fried fish, otak-otak, Sambal, Salad, Ikan bilis with peanuts, Fried Eggs, Chicken Wings, Achar and of course the Nasi. Looks delicious eh? The fish is not
Turning around this huge plate too to let you salivate ;-)
Almond Jelly had the black CKT. It had too much 'crispies stuff' (fried lard) for her liking. We know another colleague would have loved the crispies. :-)
EK had the white version of Char Kuey Teow. He said the portion's small. (We told he should have ordered the rice dishes ;-) )
"Old Cat" had to suffer a bit. His cod fish took a long time to come out. All of us had our food served rather quickly, but his was only served when we had finish our lunch!
Well, he had to choose something that had to be steamed from scratch. But he said his cod fish was good.
It has mash potato, salad and stir fried vegetables too.
We were quite happy with it.
If you are coming here, get someone with a NUSS membership or a NUS Staff to visit this place with you. It's members only. ;-)
