My colleagues and I had a 'Christmas Feast' on Tuesday. Not sure if you have a scheme at work where you suggest work improvements and you might get compensated with some $$. It is known as "WITS" in many places.
Anyway, a few colleagues suggested quite a few improvements over the year, and we kinda pool them together and have a 'makan' fund. This lunch was paid for using the 'makan' fund. ;-)
We thought we would go for JPot because a few colleague saw my post on it previously.
So, off we went to VivoCity. It was a big group, so arrived at different time. The group that reached earlier placed the order. So we just ordered...... while the rest began by eating the dips! LOL.. Yes, the dips are delicious. See, I had chives, parsley, raw garlic, fried garlic, sha cha, sesame seeds, ginger stripes and soy sauce and different oils below.
There's just too many photos, so I took out some and the rest are smaller size here.
We booked a table of 12 initially. But 4 colleagues could not make it at the last minute, so only 8 of us turned up. We still got to sit at this huge table they reserved for us. Think we needed the space with all the things we ordered! ;-p
The big table had 2 induction cooker, so we could have 2 pots cooking at the same time. Since we had 2 pots, that means we could try 4 out of their many soup bases. The first pot, we had the Bak Kut Teh and Laksa Soup.
The second pot, we had the Superior Broth and Tom Yam Soup.
We just ordered what we felt like eating. But we were trying not to over order or bust our budget. For most of the things we had like 1 each for each person. Except for things in the 'yong tau fu' menu where we had a few since not everyone eats them. One colleague wanted to eat 'sausage' so much, so this is hers. :-)
We had like 2 of the 'giant' meat ball. I think this meat ball is nice!
We had like other balls as well. Can't remember how many kinds of it we had. But you can see these balls are not those frozen balls you have at other places. Fresh ones!
The fish paste in a piping bag, so that you can squeeze long strips of fish meat into the soup. It looks like mini worms. Worms that are delicious!
Think this is the chicken meat with the quail egg. Think we also had the pork. The moment it's done, it just disappears from the pot. We just put it straight into our mouths. haha
More balls. After cooking, they are a little bouncy and yet very soft.
Some stuff are expensive while others are cheap. I think this might be one of the pricier items. Fish maw. Makes the soup very tasty though!
The beef... So thinly sliced it cooks very fast. So all you need is to put it in the soup, count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and take it up!
The service staff told us the prawns were on sale that day and we should order it. We had lots of prawns. 7 each plate and we had 2. So prawns lovers could eat more.
The YTF stuff.. The colours looks so vibrant eh?
We only ordered 1 portion of corn. After tasting the corn, we thought we should have ordered more. :-p
Enoki...
We dip them in the non spicy side of the pots. We thought it won't go with spicy soup. But maybe it will on hindsight.
More mushrooms...
We had lots of veggies. This is the Tang Oh. We also had 2 other different kinds. Watercress and something else.
Boiling away. You can see we also had yam slices. What else did we have?
If you are wondering which soup base is the best, all of us said the Superior Broth. If we were to come again, we would just have Superior Broth. and maybe Bak Kut Teh.
We were stuffed, so so stuffed.
But we still wanted desserts. The mango shaved ice dessert. We shared 3 of it.
We were initially greedy and wanted 4 bowls, but the service stuff said: I think you guys should just order 3. She was so right. Another reason why we like this place. They don't push and make you order more than what you need.
The bill came up to $216.10.
We asked if any cards had discounts. (as usual. don't you all ask too?) We were told Citibank gives us 10% off here. We get discounts with the Jumbo Card (which we did not have). So we gave the service staff the Citi card. Then we took it back. We realise StanChart gives 15% via rebate instead.
The service staff was so confused when we said we get 15% with this card. She says, no this card has no discount here. But we said it's ok, just swipe it. She walked away so so confused wondering why we took back the Citibank card. haha.. (no, this meal was paid by us and not StanChart. Thought StanChart cards still gives the best deal around).

JPot @ VivoCity
On Saturday night, our aunt 'jio' (invited) us out for a HotPot meal. She wanted to try out JPot at VivoCity. It was only when I was there, that I found out it's another of Jumbo's new concept restaurants. (they are all kinds of restaurants now don't they?)
This place is so popular! There's a super long queue outside. We finally got in after queuing for half an hour. Well, we would say it's worth the queuing. haha.
After we ordered, it was time to get the dipping sauce for the hotpot. For the dipping sauce, it's a DIY thing. There were (we noticed) two stations with all the different types of sauces and condiments for you to mix. I followed 75% of one of the recipe for mixing the sauce. I am proud to present my version of the sauce! (with lots of greens which I love)
Bird's eye view of a portion of the things we ate.
For the soup base, there's a huge selection of soup base to choose. There were 7 flavours that we can choose. They even have Bak Kut Teh as a soup base!
We had the JPot Superior Broth and Tom Yam.
Chicken, dumplings, scallops, fish slices. The scallops are huge!
The meats.... Other than these thinly sliced meat,s, we also had chicken and pork strips. Their chicken and pork strips comes with a quail egg that you break and mix it with the meat.
This is the Giant Meatball!
You turn them into smaller meat balls. Excellent choice if you got teenagers who loves to 'help prepare' the food. :-)
The mushrooms and veggies. Things that makes the soup even more delicious!
Errr. This is not my favourite food. But it's sis, Uncle, Aunt and cousin's favourite!
They love it so much, they ordered an extra plate of it. Why? What's so nice about liver?
To end it off, we all shared this Ice Mango dessert.
The white stuff is shaved milk. You should try this. I think it's very very nice!
We like this place! The ingredients were really fresh and the soup bases are nice.
Our family is very particular when we have hotpot/steamboat. We always make sure that there's two different pairs of utensils for cooking and eating. What we noticed is that the service staff reminded us two times to use different utensils to eat and cook. They provided everyone a mini tongs for cooking. So that kinda connected to us. ;-p

Steamboat @ Aunt's Dining Room
It's always fun to have the whole family sitting on the big dining table enjoying food. Having steamboat is something that's quite fun. Moreover you can get children to cook for you too! hehe... They are always so eager to want to put stuff inside the pot.
Here's what we had last Sunday. All you need is an aunt and her sis to prepare the ingredients for us. (hehe...) A nice wide mouth, not too shallow pot, an induction cooker. (induction cooker's the best! the waiting time is the shortest because they heat up so quickly!)
Prawns and sotong...
Toufu...
Enoki mushroom. 2 or 3 packs, they kinda just melt away!
Chicken meat... (marinated ones taste better)
Thinly sliced pork, just get them from the supermarket....
With kids around, some sausages and quail's eggs...
Some fish slices... (marinated with ginger etc...)
Thinly sliced Beef... (yes from the supermarket)
Pig's liver...
Plus tomato, bak choi, some beef balls, thick stem mushrooms....
Oh, they sell fish paste now as well, just like the ones you eat outside. They are quite good. This is the first round thingy, all the ingredients that can 'last very long' in the soup. hehe..
Not forgetting the dips. We had like 3 or 4 kinds...
This is the cincalok dips. You can also get the sesame paste dips etc at the Jap section of supermarkets. They are yummy!
The play with your food...
Yes, play with your food. LOL...
Before all the rise in prices etc, we used to eat at places like Coca etc, but nowadays it cost SGD82 for 2 at Coca for example, dining at home seems better ya, especially when you have over 10 people. Don't want to wash up? You saw above, use disposable bowls! LOL...

Paradise on Earth @ Tanjong Katong
This might sound silly, but we do silly things don't we? It was one of our colleague's birthday. But when we told him we wanted to celebrate by treating him lunch, he declined. (This guy is known to take leave on his birthday the last few years, but this year he came to work, but still did not want to join us for lunch hmm..)
So guess what? We all still decided that we shall have a nice meal outside, celebrating his birthday on his behalf without him. (We gluttons just want to find a reason to go out and eat)
'Old Cat' has been wanting to go to have Steamboat at this place in Tanjong Katong for a long time. After the first time they were there, they have been wanting to go back. I got to join them this time (Tuesday this week).
What an interesting name ya? Paradise on Earth.
While we were thinking what to eat, we were served achar. It's quite delicious you know. Yes, it was gone in less than 1 minute!
There was 5 kinds of soup base to choose from, we chose the 'dried scallop' and the 'mala' soup. (The others are tom yam, satay and I can't remember the fifth.
This place use induction cookers. No gas fumes. yey!
We took the lunch buffet and we got to pick from the "B" and "C" menu. This is our first round. We had like 3 and a half rounds.
From the menu, if you order the fried rice, it comes fried. (No you do not need to fry it yourself haha) It is quite delicious too!
I think this is one of the quality steamboats you can find that is still priced reasonably.
You really get a satisfied meal. Just as with any steamboat meals, you enjoy the cooking process and the chatting time while you wait for the food to cook.
To avoid crowds, come in the afternoon. We were the only table there, so service was excellent. The food's fresh too.

Coca Restaurant: Steamboat @ International Building
No one guess it? Haha... If you did, I could have given you the vouchers that we got after paying for the meal.
It's at Coca at International Building.
This branch still uses this traditional 'steamboat' pots that uses gas. The ones that Taka uses electrical ones.
The ingredients arrived... This is the first batch. I was with 4 ladies, and they can eat! The male amongst them!
First thing we put in, we start as if we are vegetarians eh? So clear and light.
Then all these started to go in! Cockles....
Enoki... yum yum...
Fish, err.. din really like it. too muddy taste.
Oysters... it goes well with the cockles above....
Prawns. Guess what, I did not eat any! Got self control eh....
Realise this is the few of the cooking process photos. We were too easy eating and serving people to take photos!
This is the last photo. We ate everything except these 3 balls. We had all kinds, no, did not bother to take photos of them. :)
I realise something, I forgot to take photo of the coca chilli sauce!!! Aiya!
