Daikokuya Ramen Dining @ Paragon

Momo and I were at Paragon to queue up for the 'free fiber' connection offered by M1 on the 1st of September. Since I was queuing, I told her to join the queue as well, there's nothing to lose. 3 months of trial, since her house has also been wired up, why not?

I have been waiting since November 2009 for the fiber service to come on. So when I saw that M1 is offering it, I went for it! The 3 months free service was too tempting! Though we 'subscribed' to the service on the 1 September, we still have to wait till the end of this week for the technician to come in to fix it up. It has been a long wait! I guess there were just too many people who took up the free offer!

Talk about waiting, we waited over 1 hour to get a queue number that night. After getting the number, we were told it will take another 1 hour before our number will be called. We were hungry so we decided to hunt for food.

Walking around the same level as the M1 shop, we came across this new ramen place. Daikokuya. It's an invasion of ramen places in Singapore eh?

As we were not sure how long it will take for the order to come and we wanted to make sure we don't miss our queue number, we sat down and immediately ordered. I saw the Promotional item called Sutamina Ramen (Stamina Ramen).




What I noticed and also smell was the dollop of browned garlic on top.
The 3 pieces of cha shu was nicely chilled. Yeah, they were chilled. I ate one piece immediately, to try it cold. I soaked another piece in the hot broth and it tasted different. It somehow becomes softer too.

There was lots of cabbage that was below all the ingredients. To finish it up really needed stamina. It was a lot to finish. (cabbage, bean sprouts and noodles). The egg has a semi-liquid egg yolk too.

The noodles were 'Q' as I had it almost immediately after taking photos. ;-p

Ton Miso

Momo ordered the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen. Her broth looks lighter and tasted rather different too.




Her noodles were paler in colour too. You can read from their website that they have different kind of ramen. Sapporo, Tokyo, Kyushu, Kogashi and Maze Ramen.

I think this ramen that Momo had belongs to the Kyushu Ramen category.

We thought their bill looks kinda nice and easy to read. They leave it on your table after you place your order. We finished our meal rather quickly and left to go back to the M1 shop.

Phew, our numbers were not called yet. I can't wait to try out the Fiber service!

Lawry's The Prime Ribs @ Paragon Orchard

On Saturday, I joined Momo and her lady friends for their 'tai-tai' lunch outing. They were enticed by the Lawry's 1-for-1 promotion and that was the last day of the promotion. These ladies are meat eaters that's why they are here!

Before lunch, I was told to behave! Be polite and courteous in front of all the ladies! LOL...  


As it was halloween, the place was decorated with spiders, fake cobwebs etc. It was funny because the whole place is suppose to be very grand and proper, how can there be spiders?

The place did remind me of the dining room I ate in while I was studying in Melbourne. In fact, I think the dining room at the student residence was even more formal than this. I suddenly think of the Chef who prepared our dinners then. He was such a nice guy. Sis used to even request what to be on the menu!

Anyway, back to Lawry's. After doing all the ordering etc, we were served their famous warm homemade Limpa and Sourdough Bread. The ladies seem to like it a lot.



Our orders includes the Famous Original Spinning Bowl Salad. (oh what a mouthful!)
Our salad was mixed by this pretty lady who gladly posed for me.



It's beetroot salad. It's kinda nice as it was cold. Even the fork that they gave us specially for the salad was cold. Such a nice touch. I like the salad. Only 1 lady, Ant whom I think doesn't like beetroot did not really enjoy it.



One of the ladies, 'Em' is not having meat that day. She chose the Catch of the Day. Oh, it looks so nice!



Looks like Em did enjoy her meal. I just had to take the other end of the plate. ;-p



We ordered a mixed mushroom on hotplate to share. Not too bad.
But we realize if we mix it with a bit of the Lawry's mixed salt, it tasted better.



Ah... when we saw this handsome guy pushing his silver cart over, we were glad. It meant our meat's coming!

He gladly posed for me too! You know what, it was the Spinning Salad Lady who asked if I wanted to take a photo. I think all of us looked like tourist!



Just before the meat's served, one of the 'ladies in serving' brought out this little cute holder with 2 kinds of horseradish. One is more 'formidable' then the other. LOL..



The Yorkshire Pudding came out too! Another 'lady in waiting' cut this up into 3 parts and served it on our plates.



Finally, our USDA Prime Ribs.
We all had the Singapore Cut, which is just a nice size. I can't remember how many grams it was. I wasn't paying attention to the lady. I was fiddling with my camera. ;-)

For my side veg, I had the spinach. There was also a choice of either buttered peas or creamy corn.



Quite a nice meal. The ladies were nice people to have lunch with. They were great company.
It was also great because it was a 1-for-1 deal with the DBS cards. Not sure when the next promo is, but you can check out their website. I see some new promos shown there now. After the discount, each of us paid around $50 for our meal.

Psst, I think the deal that Momo and I had at Lawry's Express at Los Angeles was better. It was a bigger cut (that both of us had to share) and it cost less than SGD50. I wonder if they will start a Lawry's Express in Singapore.


Oh yes, I behaved. I did not interrupt them while they gossip about handbags, dresses, cosmetics and holidays.

Sushi Tei @ Paragon

Sometimes I wonder if I reveal too much as I jot down our eating adventures on this online diary. But it seems everyone loves to read other people's diary? Anyway, I don't reveal our faces and names, so there's still some anonymity. But everyone knows sis and bro-in-law is back. LOL..

Anyway...
Since our sis and BIL are only here for 3 days, sis is busy meeting up with friends, doing manicures and pedicures, having her hair cut etc. (She says it is the same price, different currency.)

Momo and I met up with them for dinner after their tea and shopping with friends. Sis and BIL said they want Japanese food when we texted them what they would like for dinner. The city in UK where they live only has 1 'urrgh so so' Japanese restaurant. We thought of Sushi Tei because it's my birthday month and I get 20% off with the Sushi Tei card. (haha.. why not right? and No, this is not a free meal from Sushi Tei. We paid for it.)

This is what they picked that they missed. Jellyfish! They missed their jellyfish.



Scallops! There was so many kinds on the menu, they asked which is nice? We told them this is nice, and we ordered one for each person. I just love the salty mayo like thingy on it.



Soft shell crabs. Crabs again! Sometimes you don't know what your siblings like to eat until you start documenting them. I realise both my sisters loves crabs. I never knew it. Guess what? I recently realise I can 'bribe' them with crabs.

Me: Xiao mei, can you help me run this errand? Please... 
Sis: Don't want lah. So far away..
Me: I will treat you to a crab meal lah. Can?
Sis: Hmm... You say one ah. Crab meal. Ok lah!
Don't laugh! It works!



Sashimi Salad, we had it with the Sesame dressing. Sometimes veggies can taste so good. ;-)



The Miso hot pot! We like this so we thought they will like it too.
Yup, they liked it. With all the seafood inside, of course it is tasty. We found out what seafood that our BIL can't eat. Noted.




Oh, the Sushi Tei in Paragon has moved to a new location. It is now much bigger and nicer too! It's at the new wing of Paragon now. As we were seated at a darker, an area with soft lighting, the food photo is 'dark'-ish. :-)

COVA Pasticceria-Confetteria @ Paragon

Last Saturday, met up with Momo, Sue and Dino for lunch at a new 'chi-chi' cafe in town. COVA Pasticceria-Confetteria. Doesn't it sound where you can find all the tai-tai's will be at?

Cova occupies an outside area where lunch and dinner is served, and the 'main' shop where food's prepared and all the delicious sinful looking cakes are displayed and it's also where you can have a nice afternoon tea.

We sat outside, and this is the view after everyone has left. It was packed when we arrived.



We were suppose to meet another friend, but she suddenly went 'MIA' the last few days. Calls go unanswered etc. (haha.. it reminds us of another friend.) So only 3 of us met.

After placing our orders we were asked if we wanted any bread. Yes we did. This little thing served to us is quite yummy. It's salty! We read that everything here's baked at 5 am, and ready to be served for breakfast at 8 am.



Well, Momo had the Vegetarian Quiche. She said it was delicious.



Sue had the Salami Panini.



I had the Ham and Cheese Panini. Since both Sue and I were having panini, we decided to swap half of ours. Momo ate from our plates too.

The Salami was nice and so was the traditional ham and cheese which was recommended to us. They are generous with the fillings.



How does Dino come into the picture? Remember we had a MIA friend? We had an extra seat and found out that Dino was nearby. So, we asked her to join us. When she came, it was when the Tea menu starts. (3 pm).

We ordered the biggest tea set, so that we can pinch her food. 8 items in the set plus a pot of tea.



The two ladies decided they need a coffee fix. Italian Coffee!
So each of them ordered a cappuccino.



Looking at Dino's tea set, the ladies decided to be tempted by going into the shop and they ordered these!



They sure are delicious. Good things comes in small sizes.

Canele Patisserie Chocolaterie @ Paragon

Momo and Dino has been going for desserts. This is what they had recently. Hmm. All these desserts photo that is sent to my mailbox is making me drool. LOL.. I want some too! They had dinner in Paragon and pop by Canele in the same place to have some sweet stuff.



This beautiful looking creation is Tarte Citron ($5.50)
It has a very lemony taste and is very refreshing.



Baked Fruit Tarts ($5.50) A big delicious slice of it too. This place has unique teas too.

Soup Restaurant @ Paragon

On Wednesday, colleague had some business to settle in town quickly, so we followed his car to Orchard Rd for lunch. He got his stuff done very quickly and we settled for lunch.

We were deciding what to eat, and when someone suggested white chicken, we ended up here. :-)

If you love soft peanuts, the ones here are irresistible to us.



Usually, when you come here, many people either have the Ah Kong or Ah Ma "Fan Su Ye".
We took the spicy one which is Ah Kong Fan Su Ye. This is a very popular dish here.



We also had the boiled soup of the day. It happened to be corn and pork soup. Lovely.



Aha! Why we were here for. The Samsui Ginger Chicken. We had 4 persons and we had the large one! Yes, we wallop it all. We were told it had 40 pieces. That's something new to us.



We thought we wanted more veg, so we had the Yao Mak Chye with Black Bean.



This is called Eleven Tong Poh Pork.
It's quite yummy you know! Lard lovers indulge! It is actually one whole piece of meat and they manage to cut it up and raised the middle. How did they do it?



We were very satisfied.
