Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Avenue

Shelter in the woods. What an interesting name. I wonder how it got its name.

If you have been here before the recent renovation, you would have remembered it to be dark place. It's as if you have been lost in the forest and it's nearly sunset. Not that I was there before, I was told it was like that. Then the owners decided to brighten things up.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

With its reopening in November 2014, the owners want to make you feel as if you have entered into an inn in the middle of a forest. It might be dark outside but when enter, it's bright, heart warming, homely, welcoming and mesmerizing. You see rustic wooden tables, a huge bright red rotisserie (you can see it in the photo above) that has various meats cooking, you will temporary forgot it's Singapore. Probably in some woods.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Yup, it's bright inside now, for those who loves to take photos, it's possible now. Instagram your food!

With the reopening, they have brought in a new consulting chef. The Japanese-born, European-trained Chef Masahi Horiuchi that has more than 20 years of experience in Michelin Starred restaurants across Europe. I read that his style is marked by his technical expertise in classical European cuisine, that to me is the no nonsense, no modern powders and potions kind of cooking. We met him and he's such a humble guy.

The dinner that night was incredible. We got to thank 'Bing', a real foodie who knows a lot about food for inviting us over for dinner tasting. The wife and I with Maureen and Kai were fed with food that could last us till breakfast the next day. The following are what we ate.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

If you are a fan of cured meat and cuts, you should visit this place. Chef Masahi prepares a whole array of them himself. I suggest that you bring along someone who loves it as well so you can share more items.

Shown above are two different 'boards' that you can order from their menu.

1) Shelter Charcuterie Board ($34, bottom in the photo above)
You get a selection of foie gras 'au torchon', pork rilette, pâté en croûte, mesclun salad and toasted French broiche and poolish baguette.

2) Shelter Pate Board ($30, top in the photo above)
For this board, you get to choose up to 3 selection of the daily range available, and its served with poolish bangueette and house made condiments. We had Pork Hat,  Pate duck a l'orange and Cream pâté with roquefort and walnuts.

Truth be told, I am not really an expert in Charcuteries. Everyone piece taste different and depending on your preference, you will particularly like some and not the others.  I should get an expert to explain and teach me how to enjoy them. Right now, it is what feels and taste good to me, I will like it.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

A close up of the pate en croute. It had duck foie gras, pork, veal, forest mushrooms, pig liver, consomme jelly, wrapped in pastry.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

A very delicious Pate duck a l'orange. It's foie gras with orange. I like the orange bits in it. Makes it more refreshing. I love their house-made pickles of cornichons and carrots too.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

This is the Cream pâté with roquefort and walnuts.

I particularly like the Pork Hat. Surprisingly because it's made of pork head terrine with mustard and gherkins. If I want to put in a term that everyone will understand, it's like the best tasting luncheon meat that is just slightly cook.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Some of the condiments that goes with the boards. The left is the Honey and Lavendar mustard. It's one of the more popular condiments. You can buy them too. I saw on the bottle that it is $18 for 200 grams. Probably worth every cent when you taste it.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Pick your own choice of cured meats and cuts / charcuterie. I know some of you can't wait to try this ya.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

One of the signature items is their Shelter Quiche ($14.50).

It has Bole Porcini Mushrooms, Swiss Gruyere cheese, Swiss Cream, Garlic and Herb butter, onions and eggs in a fragrant short crust pastry. If you like mushrooms and cheese, try this and let me know how much you love it. It's something you will want seconds.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

If you like Lyonnaise Salad ($12 for entree, $20 for larger sharing size, the above is the entree size), you can tell the chef is classically trained as all the elements of a traditional Salade Lyonnaise is there. Frisee salad, soft-boiled egg, Dutch smoked bacon, croutons, confit pearl onions and sherry vinaigrette. The moment of truth when you break the egg and coat the salad with the egg yolk.

Every time I have a Lyonnaise salad, I would say to myself, why didn't I make a trip to Lyon when we were in France. I have always wanted to have a Lyonnaise Salad in Lyon.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

This is the Endive and Roquefort Salad ($14). This was the entree size we had. If you want to have salad for the night or you want to share, there's also the larger one at $26. The salad with the slight stink I would say, thanks to the Roquefort. Surprisingly, the Belgian endives that night was not bitter at all.

A salad for those who loves Roquefort. A nice mix of walnuts, green apple strips, beets, cheery tomatoes with a honey dressing drizzled over it. I like how they criss crossed the endives. Pretty isn't it?

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

DIY Steak Tartar ($18 for 100g or $33 for 200g)

I love steak tartar. I remember having steak tartar every day at a different restaurant in Paris until the wife says, please, enough raw meat. Can you eat something else?

The most interesting encounter was at a simple cafe that's not in any guide book or recommended eats in food blogs. It was mostly local inside and I ordered it. They asked someone who could speak English and come tell me, it's raw meat, is that ok? Oui. Oui. Then when it was served, I asked the person, I asked the person to mix all the condiments to the style he liked. He said really, and he squeezed his own concoction of sauces and it was quite nice.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Anyway, back to this DIY Steak Tartar, they use Australian Black Angus Beef Tenderloin. They hand cut it and the meat has been seasoned for you. No need to wonder how much Worcestershire or Tabasco to add in. All you need to do is mix up the nicely cut up condiments after you take loads of pictures to Instagram it.

Oh lovely.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Creamy Corn Soup Trio ($13.50)
They said that the Japanese corn has the nicest taste ever. It's true. In the hands of this chef, corn, onion and milk were made into a nice creamy soup. Some roasted corn added in to give it a slight smokiness. To give it an additional texture of lightness, pop corn was added too.

Try it lah. Try it and you won't regret one.....

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Rotisserie Suckling Pig

If you are here and you see the Rotisserie with a Suckling Pig slowly rotating, order it. It might look a bit expensive, but it's a suckling pig. If you order it in a Chinese restaurant, it also cost you about the same.  It's $35 for around 3 pieces, of $68 for around 6 pieces.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Served with rotisserie pineapples and confit onions. Oh the gravy is quite wonderful too and it is made of veal jus and caramelised onions. Try your first piece without the sauce to enjoy the already tasty meat. Then the second with the jus. Tell me which way you prefer it.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Seafood Casserole ($39)

My impression of this is the broth is addictive. So addictive especially with the slices of crusty cheese croutons served on the side. I was thinking of an awesome bouillabaisse when I had this. Seasonal seafood like fish, mussels, clams, prawns and scallops are cooked in a deep and rich seafood broth.

You know why I love the broth? It's made from fish, prawns, lobsters with fennel, leeks, celery, carrots, tomatoes and saffron. If you are able to imagine flavours by reading words, you should be able to imagine the taste now.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Rotisserie Rack of Lamb ($43)

This lamb is so tender, I ate it using my hands like a lollipop. Pick it up, the nice pink meat that was not gamey after being marinated with parsley and pepper. If you like garlic like me, suck the garlic out of the skin. So awesome.

The roasted baby potatoes are also just delicious. The gravy that comes in a pouring vessel is made of veal jus and caramelised onions. Taste it and you want to find things to dip. Might sound weird, but it's true. I am just thinking of my bro, the gravy person in the house.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Roasted Chicken (Half for $21.50 /  Whole for $40)

They use Anxin Chicken here. Looks like many places are serving these French breed chickens that are farmed in Johor and slaughtered in Singapore. I first tasted it many years ago when Bistro DB at MBS started using them. My aunt says they also sell them at selected supermarkets too.

The chicken is prepared almost similarly to the rack of lamb, very lovingly and delicately prepared, but because the lamb is far more superior, if you order both, you will end up picking the lamb. Order this if you don't like lamb. LOL.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Palate Cleanser (seasonal) - complimentary was served just before we had our desserts.
This is Earl Grey Rum Granita.

Oooo-la-la!

We tried 4 different kinds of desserts, but the 2 that left an impression that night was these two.
Rotisserie Pineapple Crumble and Meringue Glacee.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Rotisserie Pineapple Crumble ($14)

The pineapple has been flamed over the rotisserie, then spiced with cinnamon, star anise and cloves. The taste of the pineapple becomes from tartness to gooey sweetness, just a nice way to end the dinner. Served with their house-made vanilla ice cream and decorated with some crumble.

Shelter In The Woods @ Greenwood Ave

Meringue Glacee ($12)
This left an impression not only because of the looks of it. The house-made raspberry sorbet over the vanilla ice cream was really bold and really hits you with the mixture of sweetish and tartness. I like how they arranged those tiny meringue cones over the sorbet. It's also served with some macerated berries.

It's quite an impressive place to dine. Their food is done very well and so is the atmosphere. It's not a place to dine if you are in a hurry. The mains as it is mentioned in the menu will take 30-45 minutes to prepare. So enjoy the appetizers the charcuterie boards or salad and soups first.

They have 180 labels for their wine list too. They are predominantly Old World wines.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar by Luke Mangan @ ION Orchard

Restaurant Week 2014 started last Saturday and we made 2 bookings at 2 very different places to indulge a bit. I didn't book any restaurants last year, partly because when I realised the booking was opened, the places that I wanted to try had all been fully booked.

Sis has been quite busy, so I thought it would be a nice treat for her. Managed to snag a booking for Salt Grill and Sky Bar on a Saturday. I managed to get booking this time thanks to the reminder email that American Express sent about having priority bookings 1 week earlier for AMEX Card Members. One of the perks that I finally got to use this year.
 Salt Grill and Sky Bar

We started our meal with taking photographs of the view! Ya, we happened to be seated right next to the tall glass windows. After a while, these warm breads were served with olive oil and dukkah. The breads went very well with the dukkah and I think it might be sis' next project. I suspect she might be making dukkah for Christmas gifts this year.

Here's what we had:

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
'Glass' Sydney Crab omelette.

Sis saw the menu online and already wanted to order this. It's Luke Mangan's signature dish and it's a very comforting dish. Soft and creamy omelette with a very appetite stimulating miso mustard broth.

By the way, if you want to replicate this at home, Luke's website has the recipe! I recommend coming here for the dish at least once so that you know what it's suppose to taste like. (Making me miss the meals at Glass Brasserie in Sydney!)

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Tuna Sashimi

Sis said order something else, so we get to try other things in the Restaurant Week menu. So I had the Tuna Sashimi with ponzu sauce, smoked enoki and puffed rice. These few weeks, I have been tasting food with puffed rice. Makes me want to plate something at home with puffed rice too!

The smoked enoki has quite an intense flavour and it does gives the tuna a nice accompanying flavour.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Cape Grim Striploin

You will expect the Aussie restaurant to use Aussie beef. Sis asked for medium and said later, she should have asked for medium rare. It was a nice cut of meat and nicely prepared. Served with caramelized endive and swirls of eggplant and salsa verde.

Sis also had Dijon Mustard and Wasabi Mustard. The wasabi mustard is something you should try if you like wasabi. To me, it goes well with the beef. If only the beef was a bigger piece, we know it's a lunch menu only.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Mushrooms

There was an extra menu that was presented to us at the start. If we would like additional sides to go with the Restaurant Week set lunch, we could order. So I ordered the mushrooms for $15.

It was a nice addition to our meal. Sis is not a fanatic mushroom lover (ie don't really eat mushrooms), but she said it was 'ok', so it means it is nice. I also order mushroom dishes to try at certain places to see how it comes out and to remember the taste. This is so that the wife who loves mushrooms can get to taste it when she says 'cook some mushrooms please' at home.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Grilled Snapper

I had the Grilled Snapper with Israeli cous cous served in a tomato and dill broth. A piece of fish that was nicely grilled, still so tender as I broke it with my fork and had a nice crispy skin. Ya, our conversation at the table turned to Masterchef Australia that we are catching on TV now. We said, on TV they will always have the skin crisp up between trays separately, here they still have it intact, quite good skill ya. (Things we talk about....)

It's the biggest cous cous that I have seen. I have to say, the first taste, I didn't like it. As I had the my second mouth and more, it grew on me and I finished it all.

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Raspberry Cheese Cake

Sis' favourite part of any meal. Desserts. She already said, we are going to order both on the menu when we sat down. A very beautiful and mesmerizing dessert. For the ladies who loves the slight sourish / tart taste of raspberry. Raspberry cheesecake with raspberry sorbet with a piece of freeze dried raspberry.

Just like how they always say on Masterchef Australia, just one word: Yums!

Salt Grill and Sky Bar
Banana Parfait with Peanut Brittle

The other dessert on the menu. Banana parfait which has a nice ripe banana taste with pieces of the addictive peanut brittle on it. The 'skid marks' chocolate mousse goes well with the banana parfait, loving the taste of the dark chocolate used.  Oh yes, a 'spoonful' (the shape) of salted caramel sauce to go with it too.

After the meal, we went around the viewing deck. Looking at how beautiful the city is and how much it has been changing over the years (and maybe months and days too!)

p/s:

Since I started by telling you that I got the booking early because of the Amex Platinum card I had, might as well, tell you more. People have been asking me where to go and eat and you want it affordable as well. Get the American Express Platinum Credit Card that now comes with free membership to two dining programmes, the Classic Far Card membership and PALATE programme.

I remember a long time ago, it was FAR only, then it became PALATE only. Now it's both and the sweeter deal is that for 1st year it's free membership now.

With these 2 programmes combined, you have a few months to try different restaurants, if you try one a week. It's best for couples as you get 50% off. There's also the Platinum Private Deals that you can look forward too.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

If work has really gotten into you during the weekdays, you just want to spend your weekends resting, taking walks and perhaps a brunch to go along as well. If you are looking for a brunch where you can enjoy some natural breeze, try the weekend brunch at Halia located at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

If you don't already know, Halia means 'ginger' in Malay. Make a guess where Halia is located at the Botanic Gardens? At the Ginger Garden of course. Take a walk before or after having your brunch would certain aid in digestion.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

For some folks who believe in always having hot drinks even in hot Singapore weather, order the Hot Ginger Tea. It comes with a 'shot' of honey too if you prefer to sweeten it a little.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

For those like me who always prefer iced drinks. This iced ginger tea is my preferred drink on warm afternoons in Singapore. It's cold, yet it has the kick of the spicy ginger and sweetness of the added honey. Refreshing indeed!

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

If you choose to sit at the non air con section of the restaurant, you are right next to nature. This was just right beside me at the table I was sitting where I was dining at Halia recently.

For those who can't live without air-conditioning, there's always the air-condition part of the restaurant.

My brunch at Halia, was a hosted lunch by the PR firm FoodNews, who is engaged by Halia.
The following items are the 'recommended items' for you to try when you decide to pay them a visit.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Oysters with Bloody Mary. ($6 each)

If you are into oysters and you like the South Australian ones, they serve Coffin Bays oysters here with a shot of 'bloody mary'.  They are available at $6 each.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Many people eat it differently. Some like the taste of raw fresh oyster in their mouth, so they just pop the oyster in their mouth to savour the salty oyster taste first then down it with a shot of their chef's version of Bloody Mary.

Chef's recommended way of eating we were told is to drop the oyster into the shot glass and drink it all down together! Which is your favourite way of eating oysters?

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Cocktail of king prawns, spicy tomato sauce, avocado, wasabi and coriander ($22)

If you like prawns and the you also like avocado, this is a nice combination, a delicious creation by the chef here. The succulent prawns are also from South Australia, Spencer Gulf King Prawns if my memory does not fail me.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

I really like this prawn cocktail. Here's an 'underview' for you to admire. Avocado all at the bottom and the little mix of wasabi and their own mix of spicy tomato sauce does makes it quite appetising. It's light, and refreshing. There's 7 prawns in there if you are curious. The perfect number of prawns!

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Wood smoked salmon toastie, capers, crème cheese & dill, sunny side up fried egg ($24)

If your idea of brunch must include toast and eggs, this wood smoked salmon toastie is created for those who love smoked salmon. If you are interested to know like us where the salmon comes from and how it's smoked, it's oak wood smoked salmon from Scotland.

Smoked Salmon with creme cheese and dill combination by itself is already very tasty even without the fried egg. The photo I am showing has a portion of it eaten so that you can admire how it looks inside. I love the frisee that was around the toastie. I like it with the soft egg yolk!

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Cinnamon French toast, fresh seasonal berries, white chocolate and Iranian pistachio ($18)

Doesn't that just look so gorgeous. Berries are good for you, they are rich in anti-oxidants. I guess if you don't like the slight tartness of berries, the chef has drizzled melted white chocolate all over it! Sounds good? More delicious than having condensed milk over toast right?

If you see how nice the colours of the pistachio are, it's Iranian pistachios and they cost 4 times more than the usual pistachios we normally buy. The difference, there's no floury taste that lingers like in normal pistachios.

Oh yes, the toast is egg custard brioche if you are wondering.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Poached eggs on brioche, dill hollandaise, Swiss brown mushroom, spinach and tomato. ($22), (add $4 for shave honey baked ham)
I know many ladies will just order this just because the word poached egg is there. Nicely poached eggs that guarantees a flowing egg yolk for you to instagram!

I took a photo of it top down and realise it's not so appropriate to be posted. Yes, the poached eggs comes in a pair.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Halia chilli crab spaghettini Singapore-style spicy, sweet and tangy crabmeat sauce tossed in pasta ($24)

This is the signature dish that's available at both Halia at SBG and also at Raffles Hotel. I would say this is not really chilli crab kind of chilli crab. It's their version of it. It's quite tasty, a version that goes well with spaghettini.

Don't expect chunks of Sri Lankan mud crabs. This is a refine version that has been made for easy eating with fork twirling around your pasta. ;-)

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Mayura Station full blood Wagyu rump, bacon, sunny side-up hen's egg, vine cherry tomato and barbecue sauce. ($48)

Meat eaters out there, if you like beef at 11 am, order this. The chef has made special arrangements and brings in Mayura Station full blood Wagyu into his restaurants. I seem to notice they are having all things South Australia here!

If you are there for brunch, they have weekly brunch specials and the above was the special on the week I was there. (ie, not on the regular brunch a la carte menu) If you are on a non-carbo diet, this is made for you!

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

It looks so delicious and beautiful, I have to show you how it looks the other side as well. If you are wondering how heavy is this wagyu beef that costs $48,  the week I had it, it was a 150 gm piece of wagyu rump.

Oh how I adore vine riped tomatoes and the bacon too!
A bite into this beef, and it was very good. Just serve me the wagyu and tomatoes, I will be satisfied.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Sticky Valrhona chocolate brownie, salted caramel sauce & vanilla ice-cream ($12)

For the sweet tooth, let you bask in the sweetness of the sticky chocolate brownie.
Enough said, the photo above is enough to tempt and salivate chocolate lovers ya?

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

Young ginger nougat frozen parfait, roasted fresh pineapple & spiced pineapple sauce ($12)

A very 'halia' dessert. Made from ginger and pineapple. It has a nice ginger 'hotness' to it. I now my wife won't take this because it has ginger. I will order this because I love ginger, yes even raw ginger that is thinly sliced.

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

The young ginger nougat frozen parfait. Either you love it or you detest it. ;-)

Weekend Brunch @ Halia, Singapore Botanic Gardens

If you are wondering who's the new Executive Chef behind this new menu, it's Australian Chef Peter Rollinson. Previously from The Prime Society, that's why his meat dishes are so good. I guess he knows the Australian produce rather well, that's why he is using South Australian produce.

Ruth's Chris Steak House Singapore @ Marina Mandarin Singapore

More steak houses are opening in Singapore! You would have read about the new ones either online or offline. Since it's the season of the US Elections, everyone's excited about all things American, here's a restaurant from the United States of America, or more specifically, one that originated from New Orleans.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore

In August this year, Ruth's Chris Steak House finally opened in Southeast Asia. If you have travel to East Asia, eg Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, you would have seen Ruth's Chris there. The Singapore branch is the 133th location of the Ruth's Chris Steakhouse chain of restaurant worldwide.

Thanks to Ruth's Chris and MSL Singapore, a few of us were invited to a taste of Ruth's Chris famous steaks. Oh, it was a wonder night of meat dining with TheHungryCow and Camemberu.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
There's something about bread that's wrapped in white linen that facinates me. It's good that they were nice and tasty too!

If you are like me trying to remember whether it's Ruth's Chris or Chris' Ruth, the short story will help you remember. The founder is Ruth Fertel. She was a single working mother who had to mortgage her home to buy a neighborhood restaurant called Chris Steak House. One day her original restaurant suffered a devastating fire and Ruth made a decision to open nearby. It was also then that she decided the name change to Ruth's Chris Steak House.

Now with that story, you would remember the name ya?

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Sizzlin Blue Crab Cakes ($35 for 2 crab cakes)

Crab cakes are American Classic. It's such a classic that there's even a book titled "I love Crab Cakes!" Yes, you can take a peep at it online here or borrow a copy of it from the NLB!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
They stuffed so much crabs inside their crab cakes you probably have eaten a whole crab in there!

OK, I exaggerated a little, but there's really a lot of crab meat in it. It had a nice little crust outside and it was moist and soft inside. It was also well seasoned. The photo above tells it all. You should be able to imagine it in your mouth now.

The liquified lemon butter that you on the plate enhances the flavor further.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Barbecued Shrimps ($35)

If you have a soft weakness for shrimps and also creole butter sauce, this is it. Prawns (or Shrimps as the Americans call it) were juicy and succulent and the creole butter (it's butter mixed with different types of herbs). The few of us felt that if we left the sauce untouched it would be such a sin. So we mopped it all up with the bread that was served earlier! It had slightly acidic, savoury, slightly sweet and slightly garlicy taste. It was just very addictive sauce!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Ruth's Chop Salad ($23)

This is a Ruth's Chris original. Be warned! There's something smelly about it. Look through the list of ingredients below and see if you can spot it!

Julienne iceberg lettuce, baby spinach and radicchio are tossed with red onions, mushrooms, green olives, bacon, eggs, hearts of palm, croutons, bleu cheese, lemon basil dressing and then topped with crispy onions.

It was a very delicious salad. Crunchy and full of flavour. If you are not a blue cheese person, you can ask for it to be omitted! The blue cheese was quite strong!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Seafood Gumbo (Soup of the day, prices market rate)

A soup that's said to originate from Louisiana, the birth place of Ruth's Chris.
The soup had an interesting texture. If you are a person who likes texture in your food, you might want to consider this. It looks so simple and yet it was packed with flavour. It's something that you grow to love it more with each mouth.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Lobster Bisque ($28)

My tastebuds was attracted to the more textured soup, the lobster was taking back seat for the night! Yes, we get fickle minded sometimes.

This is your type of soup if you like smooth soups.

AboutYourSteak

You will see the above when you salivate through the menu.
The meats are broiled at 980 Celsius!

You know your meats are ready when they bring out 260 Celsius hot ceramic plates and lay them in front of you. If comes with butter and it smells so so so good! Since it's served on a hot plate, the recommendation is to have your steak done a nodge lower than you usually have it.

The following 3 pieces of steaks were shared between 4 of us. It's too much meat for 1 person to try it all!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
New York Strip (12 ounce, 340 grams, $85) There's also the 16 ounce, 450 grams at $120

USDA Prime Cut of meat. Oh just look at that! Won't any meat lover fall in love with it?
The butter sizzling (you can see the bubbles on the photo above can't you?) the meat.
We could not wait to take a bite at it!

It has been broiled at 980 Celsius heat. That heat instantly sealed the juices inside.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Here's proof that it's still juicy and tender inside! Tempting isn't it?

I prefer mine to have less bloody and the fats more cooked, so I quickly turn the meats  on the 4 sides to slightly cook it a little more.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Petite Fillet (8 ounce / 230 grams, $85)

Guess what? As I post these photos up, my mouth's salivating!
Petite size for those who loves meat but not too much of it.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
More photos to tempt you...
The meat looks so succulent and read for you to cut and put it in your mouth right?

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Ribeye (12 ounce, 340 grams, $85) There's also the 16 ounce, 450 grams at $120

Any rib eye fans?

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Oh just take a peek at the inside! It's so juicy. The plate's hot so flip the meat on the sides a bit more and it's perfect for me.

This blood O type person loves beef and reports say that beef is beneficial to Blood O people like me!

I know they are all different cuts and people have their own preference. At that moment and with the correct amount of salt and pepper, we asked each other what each other liked and we had to make a decision. I preferred the New York Strip most, followed by the Rib Eye then the Petite Fillet.

There's no accompanying sauces here. You eat the beef in their natural flavours here.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Steak Fries. ($18)

If you like huge potato wedges, here's your order. The wedges were tossed in fresh rosemary, roasted garlic and sun-dried tomatoes. I tell you, the roasted garlic were so so good. I sneakily ate most of it!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Fresh Asparagus with Hollandaise ($23)

I would have skipped the veggies but both mummies that I have read the blog and they would say, why no veggies for that night?

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Cheesecake ($25)

This cheesecake was decadent! It looks so simple ya? Thick nice buttery, flavourful crust and the cream cheese all inside.

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Want some? Tempted by the layer of sweet sour cream over the cream cheese?

I know some people love crust and this is the one to order for the crust doesn't just stop at the bottom. It goes all the way up! You should take a bite! (and would probably finish it all up yourself)

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
Chocolate Molten Cake ($25)

If we were asked if we wanted another dessert, we know we can't eat anymore, but the thought of chocolate molten cake made me want it!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
The moist chocolate cake with warm ganache in the centre served with vanilla bean ice cream!
I was a happy man!

Ruth's Chris Steak House, Singapore
A big thanks to Chi Tran from MSL Singapore for hosting us, and also giving us all a cute Ruth's Chris Mardi Gras beads with the stress cow/ball.
