3 Inch Sin @ Cluny Court, Bukit Timah Road

We had a totally unsatisfying dinner. So to make up for it, we decided to get to some place that has nice dessert. We read about 3 Inch Sin and decided to go try it.  3 Inch Sin is said to use Valrhona chocolate to make their cakes! So we guess it would be a good choice! The moment you step in, the smell of chocolate cake baking in the oven hits you!

Since we were there after dinner, we only had the 3 inch molten cakes. We wanted to try their cakes as well but realised they only sell it by the slice on weekends.

*** 3 inch Molten Chocolate Cake with ice cream ***

The 3 inch molten cake with ice cream

Oh, if you look at the molten cake above, can you see a face? One eye bigger than the other, with lips that is straight not looking very pleased that we are going to eat it? lol...

We ordered one 'original' 3" Molten Cake $6 with additional of macadamia ice cream. ($3)

We had to wait a while for the cake. It was made to order. We were like peeping into the kitchen wondering if that batch was ours! Finally, our was served!Well, well, it was definitively worth the wait. Both Momo and Sis eyes lit up when the cake was served.

Warm, moist, chocolate cake. Topped it with ice cream. At that moment, I guess they totally forgot about the horrible dinner earlier!

*** Mini Molten Cake ***

Mini Molten Cakes

We also ordered the mini molten cakes. It comes in threes. You get to choose 3 flavours too! ($7).
You could have guessed why we had the mini ones right? We wanted to try more flavours!

We had the bitter orange, hazelnut and peanut butter.

Peanut butter oozing out...

This was the peanut butter mini molten cake. I liked the peanut butter ones the most!
It really was very good! I think peanut butter and chocolate cake goes very very well!

Original - chocolate oozes out...

This was the hazelnut mini molten cake. This was the girls' favourite.
Do you feel like licking it now? As I post this up, I feel like having more of it!

It's a very small place, so seats are very very limited.

Burger Shack @ King's Arcade, Bukit Timah Road

After such a long time, Sis, Momo and I finally went to try Burger Shack. (considering where we live is not that far from this shop!)

You know why it's called it a Shack when you see zinc roofing pieces being used as deco.

Burger Shack

When you get inside, you see more zinc sheets used.
It's an open concept kitchen and this place is air-conditioned, so if you here for quick bite and do not want to 'smell', sit outside :-)

Burger Shack

*** Fried Calamari ***

Fried Calamari

Their fried calamari that was served was nice. ($7.70)
It was crispy outside and it's not rubbery inside. It had a nice bite to it.

*** Original burger ***

The Original

I had the original burger. ($5.70) There was an option to make it into a regular meal (ie with fries and soft drink) with an additional $3.20.

I would say it is not very impressive. It's like how mum used to make it at home. Minced meat patty with some veggies and onions. Mum certainly makes it much better.

But their fries was nice though! Sis, Momo and I liked their fries.

*** Ramli Burger ***

Ramli Burger

Sis had the ramli burger. It looks the same as mine except it comes with an egg. ($6.20)
Sis was not at all impressed by it. She said there was nothing ramli about it.

*** Black Pepper Burger ***

Black Pepper Beef Burger

Momo had the Black Pepper burger. ($7.20)

Total bill was $30. I guess we were expecting too much when we came here. We thought of the burger we had just a few metres away, but we figured that that burger there costs 3 times more than this. The ones at Cluny Court costs more too. This must be the cheapest option. ;-p

It's a hang-out place for students from the nearby schools. The place has the same free photo printing as Island Creamery. If you like it, you can stick your photo on the wall too.

Thai Express @ Bukit Panjang Plaza

This was a quick lunch at Bukit Panjang Plaza. Places to eat gets changed quite frequently here. There is now a Thai Express. It is situated where Xin Wang used to be. (By the way, Xin Wang, Thai Express belong to the same boss, so I guess they are trying to see which chain is more popular or bring in more profits)

I think Thai Express is a better choice than Xin Wang :-)

*** Mango Salad ***

ThaiExpress2

We had a Mango Salad to share. If you are ordering this, be careful of the nasty chilli padi! Small and so potent! Probably that is why it is nice.

*** Tomyam Horfun ***

ThaiExpress1

The Horfun that aunt had. I think it was the Tom Yam Horfun. I can't remember, but I remember it is :-)

*** Meatballs with Tang Hoon ***

ThaiExpress3

Our cousin had this and she liked it. She has this thing about tang hoon nowadays. She had it with a bowl of rice.

*** Set Meals ***

ThaiExpress4

Thai Express seems to have set meals now. They have starters, mains and dessert.

For the starters, there was the shrimp toast (above) or Crispy pancakes (another set that we had)
For the dessert, what we were given was steamed tapioca cake with coconut milk.

ThaiExpress6

For one of the set, we had the Thai Green Curry. I like this curry, I actually finished the whole bowl of curry. (and got a very warm tummy later. :-p )

ThaiExpress5

Their so innocent looking fiery Tom Yam soup. After you sip a mouth of it, you know the potency!

Imperial Treasure La Mian Xiao Long Bao @ Marina Square

Momo and I had to run some errands last weekend. After we finished what we were suppose to do, she said she was hungry. We decided to get something light. It was tea time at 3pm. We were at Marina Square, so we walked over to the food section to grab something to eat. It was an easy decision. Momo said she liked the food at Imperial Treasure and so we walked in.

Momo ordered this dish called the Soup Rice.
This was the Soup Rice with Vegetables and Mushroom $5.00

Soup Rice with Vegetable & Mushroom

I teased her when the food arrived. This can easily be done at home! Over night rice mixed with stock and vegetables and you have this dish!

Soup Rice with Vegetable & Mushroom

But she said this dish was really nice here. It has the home cooked taste and she liked it.
I tried a spoonful of the soup, the soup's not bad, the broth was rather tasty.
(I think it's too simple and I can do the same thing at home for $1 LOL..)

***

Momo also ordered the Wanton with Hot Chilli Sauce ($4.80) to go with her porridge.

Wanton with Hot Chilli Sauce

I know I won't be able to prepare the next dish at home as good as them. So I think it's worth ordering.
The hot chilli sauce is not as spicy, but it has this slight vinegary taste. It goes very well with the wontons!

***

We were on a Wanton eating spree! We also ordered the Pork and Vegetable Wanton Soup ($4.50).

Pork and Vegetable Wanton Soup

It tasted similar to the Wanton in Hot Chilli Sauce. The wantons were a bit firmer compared to the other bowl. But the soup's not nice though. It's just 'plain soup', which I only had 1 mouth of it. I finished the whole bowl of wantons by myself though. I like the texture of the wanton. Smooth silky skin and wrapped inside a mixture of meat and vegetable that gives it a rather nice bite.

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™ @ Universal Studio Singapore

Few weeks ago, I was at Universal Studios Singapore and when it was about dinner time, I asked on Twitter for recommendations. Everyone's online 24x7 nowadays, within a few minutes, I had replies from a few people. Almost everyone said I should try Loui's NY Pizza Parlor!

I was at "Far Far Away" land and I asked the Universal Studios Singapore staff where Loui's is. They told me, I got to get to New York at the other end. So, it was quite a walk there.

It was not long before I found the place!

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

At the front of the restaurant, there is a mock up kitchen and pretend food too!
Just like masak-masak!

At the entrance of the restaurant, I saw this sign and was really happy! Why?

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

The sign claims it has the best New York Style Pizza in Singapore!
Somehow that makes me very happy!

Look at the crowd inside! I was a lone diner that night and was thinking whether I should find a place first or order the food first. I decided to just order the food first.

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

After getting my food, I walked around the whole restaurant and found no place to sit. Sigh... but two strangers whom I later found out was staff of the Youth Olympic Games were kind enough and invited me to share a table with them. How nice of them!

This was my meal.

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

I initially ordered just a slice of pizza and a coke. But I was tempted by the chicken wings! Then I was told I could get a slice of New York Cheesecake as a set meal to make it more worth my money!

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

I had a slice of the Original NY Pepperoni Pizza. $7.80

The slice of pizza was quite big. It covered almost the whole plate. If would be more fun if I had more companion so I could order a whole huge pizza ($32)! Many tables ordered it and it was a giant pizza!

The pizza was quite nice. It was thin crust pizza and there was lots of cheese and pepperoni on it. The bottom of it was a little oily, but it tasted quite good. I finished all of it!

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

I saw the chicken wings and was tempted. There was a minimum order of three wings though. I thought for a while and decided to order it anyway, when will I be inside Universal Studios again?

I shared the wings with the two strangers who shared the table with me! I told them, I have too much food for 1 person, you are most welcome to take a wing each. Sharing food got us talking and I found out they were YOG staff!

The wings were very well marinated and really tasty! It was also easy to eat as the bones did not stick to the meat.

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

I ordered this because having it as part of the Pizza, Drinks and Dessert set made this slice of NY Cheesecake I think less than a dollar.

But I did not really like it. It was a bit soft and was not really cold.

Loui’s NY Pizza Parlor™

Ah... look at the cup! So cute!
There was also fancy containers that you can buy to be filled with soft drinks. I did not get those. I am I am too old for it!

The whole meal was around $15.

Kok Kee Wanton Noodles @ Lavender Food Square

At Lavender Food Square, the stall with the persistent long queue would be Kok Kee Wanton Noodles. Probably Singapore's most famous wanton noodles stall? This was nearly midnight and there was still a queue!

It's so famous, you see tourist coming here to try it. Seated beside us were tourist with their back packs, armed with their guide book, sitting around the table having food and photographing it as well.

Kok Kee Wantan Noodles

These folks here must had been working non stop for years. The elderly uncle and aunty had become a bit 'robotic' in serving up the wanton noodles. It's the same motion non stop. The noodles were cooked in bigger batches and then separated into smaller portions.

Although I said they looked robotic, this lady in the photo can be quite graceful when she snips the noodles with her scissors! You have lots of time observing them while you queue up! Her action is bit like 'Cut the Robes' game on the iPhone! Next time you are there, take a look at how she does it!

Kok Kee Wantan Noodles

A younger lady took orders while the old hands prepared the food.

Remember I was here with the 'seniors' group? One aunty in the group told me, she had eaten their noodles for the longest time! She added that the lady used to be less tired looking and smiled more previously she said. Oh well, they scarified their youth for our tummies!

Kok Kee Wantan Noodles

This was the small version of the 'dry' option of the wanton noodles. ($3.50)

It had very very springy noodles. Somehow, putting the noodles in your mouth gives you immense pleasure! The combination of the sauce over the noodles made it very appetizing. The meat and wontons on it were just normal. It's the noodles that was nice, and I think people come here just for the noodles. It's kind of addictive too. We wanted another plate after eating it!

Kin Turtle Soup @ Lavender Food Square

A few weeks ago, I joined an 'oldies' aka retirees group for an all night trip around Singapore. The excursion was organized by seniors for seniors. It was meant for folks over 55 years old in our church's Senior Fellowship. Somehow Sis and I got interested. We realized our uncle and aunt were interested too! Our aunt knew the organizers and so she registered for us! Phew! It was going to be awkward if we call the organizers saying two young ones would love to join their outing.

We got interested because the itinerary that was printed in the church bulletin looked rather captivating! We were particularly interested at the part which had a trip to the Wholesale Fish Market at the Jurong Fishery Port. We were hoping it will be like the Fish Market in Japan. Alas, it was not as interesting. But it was not a wasted trip. We saw LOTS and LOTS of fish and other seafood! (We can't take photos at the fishery port, so there won't be any post about it.)

The trip started at 9pm. (it ended at 5 am) First few stops the touristy spots along the Singapore River. We were at Clarke Quay, Boat Quay etc. Quite 'happening' eh, these folks!

Included in their things to do was a trip to the Lavender Food Center. We were scheduled to be here around half an hour to midnight! The older folks were saying they were hungry! These folks do enjoy eating so they planned a stop here! There was many recommendations of what to eat by these experienced folks. One of the things that they said to we got to try was 'Kin Turtle Soup'.

Kin Turtle Soup

Hmmm. Turtle Soup. I think I have only tried turtle soup when my parents served them to me without telling me what it was! This time I knew exactly what it was, so I was hesitant in trying.

Kin Turtle Soup

Our dear aunt ordered a bowl and I got to try it from her bowl. Hey, it was nice. The soup is actually nice!! It's very herbal. It's like the herbal version of Bak Kut Teh, instead of pork, this was turtle!

I only had 2 soup spoon of the soup before I remembered it was turtle. OK. I promptly returned the soup to my aunt. (Laugh at me if you want.)

Now, this the turtle soup is the turtle soup that I am more familiar with!

Ben & Jerry Turtle Soup

The Ben & Jerry's Turtle Soup! I can eat tubs of this turtle soup without feeling guilty!

Which turtle soup do you like? :-)

Truffs @ Telok Ayer Street

A colleague who is currently studying for a Master of Computing at the School of Computing, NUS asked if I wanted to try one of the most delicious chocolate cake around. He and his course mates are doing an assignment for their social media module and for their assignment, they have organised a "The Chocolate Atelier" event.

It all started when colleague gtalk me and asked if I am interested in eating chocolates. He then pasted www.truffs.com.sg to tempt me. Interested to go? I said ok! He then showed me the link http://www.facebook.com/SingaporeCityTruffs. I glanced through it and I told him, I did not win the contest that's at the facebook page. How can I go? He then told me they are the organizer and he can invite me over. All I need to do is to put up a post here for them as part of their assessment. That's all is needed. Oh, that's easy!

*** the shop ***

I thought I was familiar with this area, since I used to have meals at the Amoy Street Food Centre, but I never knew this chocolate shop existed!

Truffs - The Chocolate Atelier

It's very near the Amoy Street market if you are wondering where it is.

Fresh handmade chocolate!

Fresh handmade chocolate! Oh, looking at this already makes me happy!

Located on the 2nd floor of the shop lot, you need to climb this flight of steps up.
I call it the 'stairway to heaven'!

Stairway leading to heaven!

When you go up this slight dim stairway, you reach a very bright and cosy shop!

*** the event ***

Erica and Indra, with Nicole (not pictured here), they were our hostesses for the night!

The ladies preparing to demo

Hmm... let me ask you a question: Where did you all glance at first? The ladies or the truffles? :-p

*** the cake ***

With the gloves on, they are ready for the show of the night.
The event was to show us how their 'Cake' is assembled and then tasting their award winning luscious cake!

Ganache piped unto the cake

Erica started by piping ganache on to 2 pieces of moist chocolaty cake.
No, they are not telling their recipe for the cake or the ganache!

Yeah, it looks like....

This photo above is for your interpretation. We know what you are thinking. Erica said that same thing.
So what do you see?

Spread it around. Heat it with the heat gun...

With nimble, delicate and yet strong hands, Erica uses the spatula and spreads the ganache over the cake.
Did you notice what looks like a Bosch drill? It's a Bosch heat gun! They use it to melt the ganache to a consistency that is easy to handle.

Stacked up and smoothen up...

We did realise that the 3 staff there are always smiling and happy!
They must love their work (and chocolates!) Happy people make delicious cake?

Ready for the glace!

Here, the cake is now covered in ganache and it looks so nice now!
The next step is to pour the chocolate glaze over it!

Chocolate Glace....

Look at the thick gooey melted chocolate that's covering the cake!
Do you feel like licking it? Oh.... it looks good!

Almost done, all covered up!

The decorated cake needs to be set in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
Look! The audience can't wait to try it!

Transfer it to the cake holder...

Here the cake's been transferred to a placeholder that we are all so familiar with.

All dolled up!

With a bit of decoration and bright lights, it looks good eh?

Having a slice of "The Truff's Chocolate Cake"

We were served the cake that has been set in the fridge. I tell you, the cake is absolutely stunning!
It's moist and the chocolate was so rich and yet not too sweet!

*** the truffles ***

The other reason why everyone attended the event. The chocolate truffles! They come in 3 varieties:
55% équateur dark chocolate, 66% antilles dark chocolate and 70% honduras dark chocolate.

Chocolate Truffles

The folks at Truffs were so nice to let us try all three!

Chocolate Truffle

I tell you, you will be back for more after trying it!
The 3 taste different as the cocoa beans comes from different regions.
I like all three! My favourite here is the 55% equator cocoa beans.

Boxes for the Truffles

It comes in boxes of 9 or 18. The prices for the truffles and the cake is available here.

Oh, a few days after the event, I am still thinking of the truffles and cakes!
If you are a chocolate fan, why not come and try it!

They sell only whole cakes and not slices of cakes. But if you are keen to try only a slice, head to the Farmers' market at Loewen Gardens. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday, they will be there! They sell cakes by the slice there.
