Ben & Jerry's @ VivoCity

One of our favourite ice cream. We are having less of this nowadays to save on calories, but every now and then we do indulge in it. ;-)

(ya, 'ice' told me before it has some ingredients that are not so pronounceable, but... favourites are hard to change. lol)

Dian Xiao Er @ West Coast Plaza

We have one colleague who likes to ask us to go have lunch at West Coast Plaza. So after some persuasion, we were all convinced to go there for lunch.

So, here we are at Dian Xiao Er. We realised something, if you come here before 12 noon, you get some discount off too. (Any discount is good at this kind of economy. )

Dian Xiao Er

We had 7 of us, so we opted for the set meal. Depending on the number of people, the number of dishes increases. Quite interesting.

Here's our set meal:
Their legendary Herbal Roast Duck. A bit sweet but we love it.

Herbal Roast Duck

The Braised Mushroom in Chinese Wine. This is quite delicious.

Fish Maw Thick Soup with Seafood.

Stir Fried Lotus Roots with Macadamia Nuts. This vegetable dish is quite nice.

The 2 eggs with vegetables dish.

Old Style Steam Fish Slice. I like this because of the 'sze chuan' vegetable strips on it.

For dessert, Gui Ling Gao.

Penang Place @ International Business Park

More goodbye dinner for our brother. (It's as if he's going to starve overseas).
Uncle and aunty arranged for us to have Penang food at Penang Place at International Business Park. (near IMM).

Penang Place

We always enjoy eating here because the food's nice and it suits our taste. But we usually come here at night, so the photos are dark, blur and grainy. Never mind the photos, the food's to our liking, so that is what matters.

This time, most of us started with the soup. The soup's Herbal Duck soup. It's quite delicious. (Need to have self control and not drink too much, else there's no room for other food!)

Herbal Duck Soup

Next I had the Nasi Lemak. Had a little bit of everything. Yes, a tiny bit only.
Lor Bak, Ikan Bilis, Sambal, Ladies Finger, Hae Bee Hiam, Acar, Spring Roll, etc....
Everything was nice, except maybe today, the springroll has something missing? Hmm

Nasi Lemak

This place is quite famous for its Fried Kuay Teow. This is plate 1 of the 5 ot 6 servings we all shared. During peak hour, ie 6.30pm they serve it on the buffet table. We went there around 7.30, so this time, you can place your order and they fry a fresh plate just for you.

Penang Fried Kway Teow

The satay, fried chicken, beef rendang, otak and mix vegetable. Satay's really nice. We all seem to like the vege a lot. (Think because it's with lots of garlic...)

Satay, Fried Chicken, Rendang, Otak, Mix Veg

The Hae Mee (Prawn noodle) soup. The soup's rich and if you add the sambal in, yummy!

Penang Hae Mee

The Penang Laksa. They will boil the noodles in front of you and add in the laksa soup. You will then top it with the different condiments you like. I hadd all the condiments, a bit of everything and less than usual amount of prawn paste (hae kor). It's nice nice nice. (Spicy spicy spicy too).

Our cousin had like 3 bowls of it. Recently she's begining to take more and more spicy stuff!

Penang Laksa

Their curry chicken here is very thick and rich. The chicken's tender too.
It's nice to dip slices of bread with this curry.

Curry Chicken

There are other stuff like Sambal Seafood (prawns, mussels) and other stuff. But I was too full to eat it.

There's also lots of desserts, fruits etc. But here's one that I always like. Cendol. :-)

Cendol

A few of the dishes here is what our youngest sis likes. Bro will be staying in her place in UK and we are wondering if we can legally bring in stuff to recreate what we ate for her. We wonder if 'hae kor' can be brought in.

Venezia Gelateria @ Guthrie House, Bukit Timah

Where's a good place to de-stress? Try a gelato place and have some gelato.
I think it's very therapeutic. I hope you get relax looking this photos too. Looking at photos without eating and just imagining the taste = zero calorie ;-)

Coconut Gelato. It's like eating coconut flesh / drinking coconut juice. Refreshing!

Coconut Gelato

What is this? Mascarpone Cheese flavour.
This is so so good too....

Mascapone Cheese Gelato

Double Chocolate gelato with freshly made waffle. Delightful!

Double Chocolate Gelato on Waffle

Want something more adult? Rum and Raisin that's quite potent with warm waffles. Aaahh....

Rum and Raison Gelato on Waffle

Their tiramisu's not bad too.

It's midweek, and everyone seems to be overwhelmed with work. Get some ice cream / gelato!

Samy's Curry Restaurant @ Dempsey

Here's another 'farewell' dinner for our brother. We met up with more cousins and relatives to eat, chat and say good bye.

Hmm I just realised that in UK, there's lots and lots of Indian food, and it might be better too! LOL...

Anyway, we went to Samy's because we have not been here for years. The last time we were here, we had to buy coupons as entrance fee or something. That was before the Dempsey area became a hip place for dining.

Samy's Curry Restaurant

This is our table. That's the youngest on our table. Our niece and she was so excited to eat from a banana leave placed on the table. :-)

Ate from Banana Leaves

They were serving a choice of Nasi Biryani or plain white rice.
I had the Biryani . Eating it plain is already so nice. You can see the spices in the rice!

Nasi Beriyani

We also had naan. We had all the 5 different kinds that they served. Garlic Naan, Butter Naan, Cheese Naan, Plain Naan and Kashmiri Naan. I like Kashmiri because it's sweet and fruity.

5 diff types of Naan

This is the Mysore Mutton. They said it's one of the specialties. It sure is spicy!
The mutton lovers amongst us liked it, not for me. I don't like mutton. (because of the strong smell) :-p

Spicy Lamb

The Curry Squid.

Curry Sotong

This is the Masala Chicken. Think it's quite all right.

Butter Chicken

Who can resist tiny bites of fried chicken? This is the Chicken Tikka.

Chicken Tikala

The Curry Fish Head. We were quite shocked was so big. When aunt ordered it, she was told 1 fish head feeds 2-3 persons. So she ordered 2 of it because there was 10 of us. When it came, it was 2 big heads! LOL... Well, we finished it.

Curry Fish Head

It was quite hearty meal. We might have over ordered. A few of the above came in double servings, so we had to 'pack it away' for some dishes. Nearly $200 for the above plus drinks.

The place is quite packed too. Natural ventilation in the old colonial style building / barracks. So its quite a nice atmosphere.

Nasi Padang River Valley @ Zion Road

In about 2 week's time, our youngest brother will be leaving Singapore and going back to work in UK. Suddenly we all feel so sad. Our home will have one less person. It will definitely be quieter. (not that he's very noisy. lol)

Anyway, we are bringing him around to eat the local stuff before he goes back. So we start with Nasi Padang.

Nasi Padang River Valley

We had 6 of us. The following dishes fed us till we want no more. So stuffed with food!

The Sayur Lodeh.

Sayur Lodeh

The Sambal Goreng. Some people call it Tempeh Goreng.

Sambal Goreng

The Kari Ayam.

Curry Chicken

The Sotong Sambal.

Sambal Sotong

The Spicy Terung (Brinjal)

Spicy Brinjal

The Beef Rendang.

Beef Rendang

Begedil

Begedil

The sambal belacan for that kick.

Sambal Belacan

And they always provide some sauce for your rice. This is the Asam Pedas sauce.

Asam Pedas Sauce

The food's generally quite nice. But we thought it tasted better the last time. We wonder if it's only our taste buds or maybe it was our perception. We set our expectations a bit too high. LOL..

Today's beef is not as tender, maybe it's the cut that we got. We had 5 pieces, only two pieces were soft and tender, the rest was tough. We were all quite satisfied with the vegetable dishes. Well, our brother enjoyed it. He finished every single drop of the difference sauces!!

Around $50 for the above, with 6 plates of rice. We added 3 extra plates of rice later. :-)

Sarena Nasi Padang @ Holland Drive

The other day, we all went to Big D's. One colleague who saw the long queue at the stall beside it. He then peeped at what the 'lauk lauk' at the Nasi Padang stall. He decided he got to eat from this stall.

Sarena Nasi Padang

When his food came, it smell so good.
It looks very delicious too right? This one one side of what he ordered. Curry Chicken and Sambal Terung (Brinjal)

We were tempted. We might come back here one day to try it ourselves. ;-)

Weekend dinner at Aunt

We had the opportunity to have dinner last weekend at Aunt's again. Here's what we had:

Xiao Bai Cai stir fried with garlic.

Xiao Bai Cai

Deep fried meat rolls. Great with Thai Chilli sauce.

Meat Roll

This is the 'bomber chicken drumlets'. Kids and kids at heart like us enjoy eating this.

You got to tediously scrape the meat to one corner marinate it and deep fry it. Took this photo while it was being drained of the remaining oil in the kitchen.

Bomber Chicken Drumlets

Stir fried asparagus with seafood. Yummy.

Asparagus with seafood

Streaky pork belly (san chen rou) that's been coated with flour and deep fried. Can you guess what dish is this going to end up as?

Swwet and Sour Pork before the sauce

Sweet and Sour Pork with pomegranate.
Streaky pork makes this dish taste nicer. Lean meat makes it less tasty.
Of course you can't eat this all the time ;-)

Sweet and Sour Pork

For soup, we had Bak Kut Teh.
Pork Ribs with quail eggs.

Bak Kut Teh

The kids have juices, the adults had ice wine.

Icewine

Have a good weekend to all!
