Italian Weekend Prosecco Brunch @ LaBrezza, The St Regis Singapore

Weekends...  Weekend Brunches... Weekend Italian Brunches...

My wife loves weekend brunches and for those of you who are always tasked to research about where to eat by your partner, this is another option that you can try for the coming weekends.

Tip: I know many people are hotel reward card holders too, if you are a SPG, that's Starwood Preferred Guest member, (not Sarong Party Girl) you can collect points while dining here too! Yes, I am a points collector.

If you don't know where LaBrezza is, it's located on Level 2 of The St Regis Singapore. It's facing the swimming pool with yes, with Botero sculptures at the swimming pool. Since we are talking about arty stuff, the walls of LaBrezza has very nice paintings too. If memory serves me right, the one at LaBrezza are by Singapore artists.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

If only weekend are days when carbo don't turn into sugar and make you fat. If you think Botero sculptures are beautiful, and the artist has sculpted how humans should look, come! join me in having these delicious breads and rolls.

The focaccia were really good, I liked the one that had cherry tomato in it.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

LaBrezza does not a huge buffet line like in some other hotels, but it has a decent enough selection prepared by quite a few talented people. It's very cosy too. The above are the folks preparing the food for us when I was at this tasting invited by The St Regis Singapore.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

It's called the Italian Weekend Prosecco Lunch, so this is the Prosecco D.O.C.G. Adami they are serving free flow until 2.45 pm.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
The Salumi (Italian cured meats)

They have a selection of 24 months cured parma prosciutto, parma prosciutto, mortadella, salami and smoked salmon. Selection might change, you can refer to the menu online.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

For the Insalate (salads), if you are game to try everything, go ahead. You can get quite filled up with salads alone. Save your stomach for the grilled stuff, and also the pizza and pasta!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

I am a bit bias in showing photos with beautiful tomatoes, tomatoes are something I like!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

These San Marzano, Sardinia Green and Grappolo tomatoes looks so good right?
Ahem, I feel Italian eating these tomatoes. Eat these tomatoes and you will think twice or thrice about those tomatoes we usually buy from the supermarkets!

(For your info, Roma Tomatoes are not Italian, but scientist-made in America!! Roma is based on San Marzano though. So eat the real thing here!)

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
A bowl of delicious and luscious pachino cherries (tomatoes).
Aren't we quite blessed to have food from all around the world available in Singapore?

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

Another of my love, mushrooms! My wife loves mushrooms too. We can eat A LOT of it!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Oh yes, the grilled vegetables and burrata etc....
Yes, I know not everyone loves these stuff. If you love them, you know where to get them now!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
I have not acquired the love for stuff in the cheeseboard.
If you are a fan, smell on......

After walking around the restaurant picking up your salads, cheeses, etc.
It's time to sit down and relax. The pizza and pasta you can just order and order as you like from the menu. It comes in small portions, so you can order different types to try.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

The different kinds of pasta with the sauce were all quite addictive. This was the carbonara made from egg and pancetta with tagliatelle. Many who were there loved this.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

I loved this though. Probably my favourite, ahem, probably because of the tomatoes!
Pasta are all handmade in house, and this was really skinny linguine with vongole. It's very tasty and you would probably order seconds.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Pizza Vesuvio - tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, italian sausages, roasted sweet peppers. One of the many kinds of pizza available.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
If you are a Risotto person, they have Chef's risotto specials, so it depends on what the Chef feels like cooking. We were all treated to Risotto with Cotechino and Scamorza Cheese. The cheese covered the risotto that was served. You can see that the cheese is going to be a lil chewy.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Cotechino is Italian sausage. If you google and see it what goes into making it, it does sound like the ingredients for making luncheon meat. Guess what? It tastes like luncheon meat too. If the Chef is making this on the day you visit, order a portion and try. You might love it if you are a luncheon meat person!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore

Beside the pool they have a BBQ station set up. This is where the grilled meat you order is prepared.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Scottadito.

Grilled Australian Lamb Chops, with lemon-mint marinade and roasted potaoes. One of the grilled meats on the menu.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Controfiletto ai ferri
Beef Striploin for you sir/madam? I am currently thinking of a friend who loves protein from beef. He eats a lot of it as well. Maybe he's reading this, this is for you!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Spigola ai lemone
Seabass with lemon and olive oil. Fish people out there, for you. I remember this being quite delicious. Yes, I am a fish person.

It's amazing how filling it can be. Portion and pace yourself during the meal if you want to try their desserts!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
We shared the Strata Umbria.
A bread pudding with spinach and mushrooms. It's interesting quiche like savoury dessert.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Gelati lovers. Many flavours of gelato here. Chocolate!
This is something I can order a few rounds.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Cannoli alla Siciliana
I think I overate and now as I type this, I can't remember how it tasted like. Pardon me!

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Zabaglione
Marsala sabayon with fresh fruit, I also can't remember how it tasted.

La Brezza @ St Regis Singapore
Tiramisu
While I can't remember how the two previous dessert tasted, I remembered that I liked their tiramisu!
Served in a mug, it was something that I could eat even when I was full. Someone told us it's a very traditional recipe used.

It was a nice Italian Brunch. A big thanks to LaBrezza for the invite to taste the brunch. This hotel is like an art musuem, walk around and look at the art pieces they have. This venue by the pool is also very relaxing. Sit indoors if you prefer aircon or if you like some weekend tan, sit just beside the pool.

The idea of cooking pasta and BBQ meats when you order is perfect. I think pasta is best eaten this way. In small portions and still the texture that you want and not turn soggy.

The price:
$98++ per person with Prosecco D.O.C.G Adami
$68++ per person (without alcohol)
$49++ per child (4-12 years old)

Spruce @ Phoenix Park, Tanglin Road

We were away for Sydney for holiday a few weeks ago and we when we got back, the wife says let's date the parents-in-law for brunch.  Kopikosonggirl's wish is to try every brunch place in Singapore, (which I think is not possible) and so she made a reservation for Spruce, to conquer every brunch place in Singapore one at a time.

Spruce
It was a sunny and warm day that suddenly turned very wet! We welcome the lower temperature but hated the wetness. Oh, we just can't be satisfied!

Located at the old govt offices which is probably a few decades old, the deco of this place is the classic yet gives you a lazy and comfy feeling to it.

We thought we were back from Sydney, but when you are here, you see lots of 'ang mohs' enjoying their food here too :-)

Spruce
Spruce Signature Burger with Hand Cut Chips ($17)

KopiKosongGirl had the signature burger. She enjoyed her meal, but said there's no wow factor in it. Just how you would make it at home yourself. She had it prepared medium but she felt it was a little dry.

The hand cut chips however made her quite happy. She liked how it is done. Soft and fluffy inside and crispy outside.

(She wished she had a Mary Poppins bag with a bottle of truffle oil inside. That would have made it the most awesome chips around!)

Spruce
Brioche French Toast with Mascarpone and Peach Jam ($14)

The MIL likes French Toast and she ordered this Brioche French Toast. The thick cut brioche does looks very tempting doesn't it?

The MIL liked it. You do feel quite full rather quickly because of the brioche. Very rich tasting. The peach jam was quite nice. Wondered if they made it their own?

Spruce
Lemongrass Ginger $6

I only took 1 photo of our drinks because it all looks the same. Their tea is from Tea Drop from Melbourne Australia.

Spruce
Cajun Prawns Benny ($25)
Toasted 'everything' bagel, poached egg, dill hollandaise, hot sauce

I was enjoying eggs benedict almost everyday in Sydney, and I ordered a benny again when I am back. The cajun prawns was quite tasty. I ordered this because I don't remember seeing anything similar anywhere.

Spruce

The prawns are in small pieces but they were quite generous. I really liked how it turned out.

The next few sentences might be a bit bias. I was having free range Australian eggs that has bright orange yolk for almost a week daily and coming back and looking at the pale yellow egg yolk just didn't satisfy my cravings. The eggs in Singapore seems smaller too.

We will be back to try other things though. This place has a nice atmosphere and the food's decent.

A more elderly wait staff told us while we paid our bill that they will be opening at the Old Fire Station at Upper Bukit Timah. That's good news to those of us that stays in the West. The last I heard, someone said that that Old Fire Station branch has opened. Now to find time to have a meal there.

Breakfast at Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey

I usually wake up rather late on Saturday mornings (or sometimes afternoon). It's the only day in the week that I can laze in bed. (I am fortunate that the wife still allows me to continue this even after marriage!) The 2 ladies at home will wake up early and do so many things, they will go to the gym, go for a hike at Bukit Timah (hill), etc...

Two Saturdays ago, they went out and ran some errands and when they were done, they decided to have breakfast. A "pretend we are overseas holidaying" breakfast. We have done a few trips together and we always missed them. They picked Jones, to feel like they are in Australia. The branch at Dempsey makes it feel like it's somewhere out there in another country.

They decided to call me, which I am glad they did. They called my phone, "Lazy bum bum, wake up, wake up, wake up! We are going for breakfast, we will be home in 10 minutes to pick you up. Bye!"

Huh? I was still half asleep, but I think I heard what they said. I woke up, showered and before I knew it, they were already home.

"Still not ready ah? Why do we always have to wait for you? Can't you wake up earlier on Saturdays... Always wasting time away, see how much we have already accomplished today...." The way to deal with it is say OK and it will be over!

They placed what they brought back immediately (they hate it when I always leave things on the table) into the 'proper' places at home and when they were done, I was too!

Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey
Eggs on toast ($8.50) + Jones sausages as sides ($3)
For this set you can choose to have your eggs poached, fried or scrambled. It comes with sourdough toast. The poached eggs delighted KopiKosongGirl. She loves runny egg yolks.

The eggs has a slight vinegar-ish taste, so we guess they used the vinegar boiling water to make this.
Is it only my eyes, do you see it's shaped in a heart shape?

Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey
The Spanish eggs 'en cocotte' ($19.50)

Baked baby spinach, jones tomato relish, bacon and sourdough toast. I liked it because it's tomato based. Buried below the bacon and tomato relish are two eggs which had runny yolks.

I know it's not that difficult to make at home, but we just want to be served sometimes. Slightly salty, but the spinach was slightly bitter, so overall it was OK for me.

Jones the Grocer @ Dempsey
This was how I ate it. You can't hear it, but you can imagine the crunchiness of the toast can you?
Just so lovely eating it.

Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey
Breakfast BLT ($13.50)
Grilled bacon, avocado, roasted tomato and watercress with aioli between toasted focaccia bread.
It's sis' kind of food. She loves toasted artisan bread and avocado!
She likes it with her white flat.

Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey
KopiKosongGirl and sis both had Flat Whites.

Jones The Grocer @ Dempsey
I had celery with green apple!
(See my magical straw!)

Nice place to spend an hour or so having a nice quiet breakfast.
Around noon, the place gets a bit warm and sticky if you sit outside like we did.

There's free wifi too for those who don't want to use their 'precious data' connection now in Singapore.

Jumbo Seafood @ Dempsey

KopiKosongGirl and I have dinner with my in-laws (KKG's parents) once a week.

It's quite an interesting way of making appointments. The mother and daughter will SMS each other and the the FIL and me will be on the sideline, just reading their messages quietly. This is thanks to iMessage and also Whatsapp with their group chats.

KKG wanted to have a Japanese meal, but somehow through the conversation, MIL suggested Jumbo Seafood because she is a Jumbo card holder and they mailed her a free Yu Sheng voucher. So another freebie decided where we are going to eat. (Doesn't it happen to you all too?)

It's the 10th day of the CNY and we can't remember how many Yu Sheng we have had!

Jumbo Seafood Dempsey
The Yu Sheng here is the more common Yu Sheng. No fancy stuff, the usual ones.
The menu list it at $38++ for this small one. There were additional options, but we did not have that.

Jumbo Seafood Dempsey
The tofu dish we ordered was The Japanese Beancurd Treasure Bags.
Tofu pockets with shredded black fungus, bamboo shoots, mushroom and goji berry. Quite an interesting dish.

Jumbo Seafood Dempsey
We also had an almost 1kg Garoupa that was steamed HK Style.

The initial order was to be with Garlic, but somehow when it was served, it was HK Style instead. The person who took the order noticed it and asked if we still wanted it, we said we will take it. The fish was fresh and delicious.

Jumbo Seafood Dempsey
Kailan with Garlic. The 2nd vegetables for the night after the Yu Sheng.

It was a nice dinner with the in-laws. The place was packed as usual.

Jumbo @ Dempsey Hill

It was Momo's mum's birthday and we had a celebration at Jumbo at Dempsey.

Momo chosed to bring her mum to Jumbo because the mum has been talking about crabs.
Satisfy the mum's cravings and you will have a peace at home. (That's a cheeky statement by me!) It was a great dinner with Momo and her parents.

Remember to book if you are planning to come here. The Dempsey area is getting more and more popular. We could not get a seat in the main air con area and got seated at the 'verandah' area of the old colonial house.

Here's what we ate.

*** Sambal Kangkong ***

Sambal Kangkong

Of all the choices of vegetables, we still like sambal kangkong. Why do people like sambal kankong so much? I have no idea. But we simply adore it.

*** Deep Fried Red Tilapia with Nonya Style ***

Nonya style Deep Fried Fish

It was a choice of either steam or deep fried. In the end, deep fried was chosen because deep frying is something most of us don't do at home. Most of us steam fish at home to avoid too much cleaning up!

Also if you choose the deep fried version, we get to see the 'standing' fish! It was so crispy you can practically bite the whole fish! The nonya sauce was great with it too.

*** Slow Bake Chrysanthemum Pork Ribs in reduction of Jin Hua Ham ***

Individual Pork Ribs

The name of the dish: Slow Bake Chrysanthemum Pork Ribs in reduction of Jin Hua Ham is such a mouthful! The ribs were served in individual portions. The ribs were big and tasty and really fragrant. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.

But somehow I did not really enjoy eating it as I should. I think there is something that do not agree with my taste buds. I think it's something in the sauce, because I like pork ribs.

*** Jumbo's Chilli Crabs ***

Jumbo's Chilli Crab

When we ordered this dish, they asked if we would like the Australian version of crabs or something. Can't really remember, but we said we would have the usual Sri Lankan crabs.

The dish to please the mum. Spicy and sweetish sauce really whets your appetite. How many of you love soaking up the sauce with the deep fried man tou? Crabs and Carbs seems to go hand in hand eh?

*** Avocado Pudding ***

Avocado Pudding

We were not going to eat desserts because we were already so full. Somehow when the serving staff said, you want to try a new dessert, avocado pudding, momo's eyes lit! Glutton girl.

*** Orh Nee ***

Yam Paste Dessert

This was ordered for her mum. Her mum loves Orh Nee.

Happy Birthday Aunty!

Chili's Singapore - Tanglin Mall

I was at Shangri-La for an event the other day and just as I was walking to Orchard Road, I got a text from sis asking if I wanted to meet up for dinner. I called her back and we decided to meet at Tanglin Mall.

There were a few choices at Tanglin Mall, somehow we ended up having our dinner at Chili's. We chose it because we saw a queue! (Ya, mad right?)

I guess it was a good choice afterall. We suddenly have the deja vu that we are on holidays in the middle of a busy work week. Somehow sitting there reminded us of a holiday. I guess that made two busy person happy for a while!

We went a bit 'crazy' along with the rest by clapping and singing "happy birthday" for the table at the other side of the restaurant. Therapeutic I tell ya!

*** No service charge ***

Oh, no service charge! But you can give tips just like how it's done in the US!
(Or are they reminding us to tip them?? haha)

Chili's Singapore

*** triple play ***

There were only two of us, so we could not order too much without wasting food. We ordered the 'triple play' ($21.90) so that we can have 3 things to try!

Triple Play - Southwestern Egg Rolls with Boneless Buffalo Wings behind

The above is the Southwestern Eggrolls. Just like our popiah!
It was mostly beans and vegetables inside, so it was not our favourite. LOL

Beside it is the Boneless Buffalo Wings. Hmm Were they really wings?

Triple Play - Chicken Crispers

The ChickenCrispers. Strips of chicken that was really lean. The dipping sauces made them taste great.
We liked 2 out of the 3 things there :-)

*** Grilled Baby Back Ribs ***

We ordered the half Grilled Baby Back Ribs ($27.90) to share as well. A little burnt, but it tasted quite good. We had the Sweet Carolina sauce version.

Grilled Baby Back Ribs

The ribs were ok. I guess it was the choice sauce we had? It was sweet because we chose a sweet sauce. We were thinking about the nicer one at  Bistro One Three One last month.

We could have two side dishes, and we had the chips that you see beside the ribs and they told us that they ran out of coleslaw when the ribs was served. So we opted for the corn on cob instead.

Corn on Cob

The corn is very juicy and it was really nice! I guess it was the salt on top of it that made the first bite so tasty!

The bill after the usual 7% GST was $53.30. No service charge added, so it's up to you. ;-)
