Eat at Taipei @ JCube

A colleague told us about this new Taiwanese eatery when we asked what was nice in JCube. After being tempted by her descriptions, we thought why not go immediately to try it? So off we went in a colleague's MPV to JCube.

For those who is wondering where is JCube, it's the previous Jurong Entertainment Centre that has been demolished and rebuilt. When you get to JCube, Eat at Taipei is located beside the ice skating rink on level 3.

EatAtTaipei
Though the place looks packed, we did not have to wait long to be seated.
We were seated just next to the rink so we got to see people skating while we ate.

When we got seated, we were presented the menu, but were were told quite a few things on the menu is not available yet. It will be available soon. It's a pity we could not try more stuff. It's always more interesting to go out in bigger groups and order more stuff to share (and also split the bill).

Eat at Taipei
One colleague ordered the Oyster Mee Suah. This guy loves oysters and when he saw the above, he was a bit sad. He saw 2 oysters floating above and told us straight away he needs a second lunch. When he put his chopsticks in, he suddenly smiled, he said there were 6 mid size oysters hidden inside! He still wished there were more mee suah though.

I did not take photos of the other dishes that the rest of us ate. Everyone's hungry and I did not want deprive even 5 seconds of their time to fill themselves up. Some of us had the braised pork belly noodles, braised pork rice etc.

Eat at Taipei
This was my Spicy Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles. ($9.90)

It's not really spicy, probably a light hint only. The beef were not spectacular, but it was still quite nice. It had been braised till it was soft. The daikon too was well braised. The soup does not look thick, but it was flavourful though. It's also not salty, so I could finish all the soup!

Another colleague who had the same too, enjoyed it too and also finished it happily.

Eat at Taipei
This next dish has a very inauspicious name. It's called the Tainan 'Coffin' Toast. ($8.90)
It's a very thick slice of bread that has been fried, the top cut along three sides, part of the bread digged out and filled with seafood in white creamy sauce.

I like the bread but not really what was inside. It's because I personally don't like my bread soggy. But the rest seemed to like it. They love bread soaked with the creamy sauce. The seafood inside were prawns, sotong and fish slices.

Be warned, it can be quite messy!

Eat at Taipei
This was the Spring Onion Oyster Pancake.

I did not really like it. If you are those who prefer the taiwanese style of 'or chien' with the gooey kind of texture, you will like this. Our colleague who likes the oysters liked it. :-)

We would probably go back again when we could try more things in the menu.

Penang Place @ International Business Park

Our dear sis and bro-in-law's back and they will be Singapore for only 3 days. I was on the phone with her in UK last week and she said, local food if possible for all the makans we are going.

This was the first meal they had in Singapore. It was an evening flight and by the time they are out of the airport, it was peak hour. (yes, the dreaded 6.30 jam!) We got home at 7:30 (usually it would be only half an hour) and they quickly took a shower and we are off to meet the other relatives for dinner.

Aunty chose Penang Place because it's nearby and the food's nice too.

It's a buffet and these are some selected few photos of the food we ate. (actually it's what I ate. haha)

Satay, Low Bak, Nasi Lemak with all the various condiments.

Satay, Lor Bak, Nasi Lemak etc...

Everyone likes the Penang Char Kuey Teow here. This is one of the 'no pork no lard' place, so they don't use lard and yet it still taste really good.

If you are wondering if I arranged the ingredients to make it looks a lot, no I did not. It is as it is. It does have lots of prawns etc...

Penang Char Kuey Teow

A few other pickings from the buffet line. Some sambal, fried spring rolls and I think it was sweet and sour fish.

Rendang, Popiah, Fish

Penang Hokkien Mee. I asked for very little noodles as I was already stuffed from eating other stuff.

Penang Hokkien Mee

Penang Assam Laksa.

There's also fruit rojak that you can mix yourself.
I had two bowls of Chendol and also some Nyonya kuehs. Don't they look so colorful? :-)

Assorted Nyonya Kueh

If you look at their website here, you can see they have lots of dishes. It says they serve 30 of them daily.

Sis and Bro in law was satisfied :-)
It seems we only come here when we have people visiting!

Penang Place @ International Business Park

More goodbye dinner for our brother. (It's as if he's going to starve overseas).
Uncle and aunty arranged for us to have Penang food at Penang Place at International Business Park. (near IMM).

Penang Place

We always enjoy eating here because the food's nice and it suits our taste. But we usually come here at night, so the photos are dark, blur and grainy. Never mind the photos, the food's to our liking, so that is what matters.

This time, most of us started with the soup. The soup's Herbal Duck soup. It's quite delicious. (Need to have self control and not drink too much, else there's no room for other food!)

Herbal Duck Soup

Next I had the Nasi Lemak. Had a little bit of everything. Yes, a tiny bit only.
Lor Bak, Ikan Bilis, Sambal, Ladies Finger, Hae Bee Hiam, Acar, Spring Roll, etc....
Everything was nice, except maybe today, the springroll has something missing? Hmm

Nasi Lemak

This place is quite famous for its Fried Kuay Teow. This is plate 1 of the 5 ot 6 servings we all shared. During peak hour, ie 6.30pm they serve it on the buffet table. We went there around 7.30, so this time, you can place your order and they fry a fresh plate just for you.

Penang Fried Kway Teow

The satay, fried chicken, beef rendang, otak and mix vegetable. Satay's really nice. We all seem to like the vege a lot. (Think because it's with lots of garlic...)

Satay, Fried Chicken, Rendang, Otak, Mix Veg

The Hae Mee (Prawn noodle) soup. The soup's rich and if you add the sambal in, yummy!

Penang Hae Mee

The Penang Laksa. They will boil the noodles in front of you and add in the laksa soup. You will then top it with the different condiments you like. I hadd all the condiments, a bit of everything and less than usual amount of prawn paste (hae kor). It's nice nice nice. (Spicy spicy spicy too).

Our cousin had like 3 bowls of it. Recently she's begining to take more and more spicy stuff!

Penang Laksa

Their curry chicken here is very thick and rich. The chicken's tender too.
It's nice to dip slices of bread with this curry.

Curry Chicken

There are other stuff like Sambal Seafood (prawns, mussels) and other stuff. But I was too full to eat it.

There's also lots of desserts, fruits etc. But here's one that I always like. Cendol. :-)

Cendol

A few of the dishes here is what our youngest sis likes. Bro will be staying in her place in UK and we are wondering if we can legally bring in stuff to recreate what we ate for her. We wonder if 'hae kor' can be brought in.

Boon Lay Raja Seafood @ Jurong East

Hmmm you must be thinking I am so contradicting. Yesterday, I just grumbled about 6.6% inflation and today, we are at Boon Lay Raja having a nice meal. Haha... Well, a colleague "die die" want to eat here, and he proclaimed he is treating, the other 6 of us could not disappoint him right?

There was a deja-vu feeling today. We ordered a set meal for 7, when the food was served, it was like we had it before! If you click on the label and view the pictures, it might be the same!

The homemade tofu and mushroom dish that was oooo, so yummy.

The prawn rolls that is crispy outside and moist with succulent prawns inside.

Yes, the set meal came with siu mai. :-)

We also had an order of Char Siu Pau, because one colleague who calls herself a 'preggie' had the urge to eat it. :-) (maybe our future lunch, we might be eating the food that she has the urge to eat! that solves our headache of thinking what to eat every day!)

The deep fried fish. So nicely deep fried, crispy outside, yet the inside's not very dry.

When we ate this fish, we all remembered our CNY lunch at our workplace that was horrible. Everyone just grumbled on.... We all thought that we should come here for next year's CNY lunch instead!

Celery with scallops.

Talking about the CNY lunch, we thought, we sort of heard that the per-head was $40 and we had such horrible food, we think this lunch is much better and worth it.

Marmite Pork. We were suppose to have Roast Chicken in the menu, but we were told, it wont be ready till 12.30 and we did not want to wait like 45 mins for it. So they said we could choose any pork dishes, so we chose the Marmite Pork.

Prawns.

More about the CNY lunch, we sort of heard that if they chose the restaurant that we ate the CNY lunch so that we could save on transporting everyone here. But another colleague said, if they paid a cab for 4 persons to come here, it could still be cheaper to come here.

And.... since we were at a place that serves Dim Sum, how could we not order our favourite food - Phoenix Claws!

We said "wu3 long2" and the person who took of us proclaimed so loud, FIVE?! haha...

Hmmm sorry for having you read the grouse that we have about our CNY lunch in between the photos.

Tomorrow's Friday! Hope you get to finish off all your week's work and have an enjoyable weekend!

Boon Lay Raja Seafood and Sharksfin Restaurant @ Jurong East

Was too busy yesterday to post. I thought I did, but only realised this morning that I forgot! Sorry if you expected something for Sunday. Today's post will have 'double issue'. (ie. more photos)

Last Friday, one colleague said, let's go have something different. He will treat. Two of us needed to return some library books, so we headed to the Jurong East Library.

Aha! After returning our books, we remembered Boon Lay Raja that we have not gone for sometime. We headed towards it.

Can't decide what to eat, we opted for the set meal. 3 of us only, the person paying said, it's ok. Take the $50 set that's for 3-4 persons. We were very pleased with the food.

This is the Thai Style fish. It's very well done. The sauce makes you want to eat more!

This is tofu with prawns inside. Yes, whole prawns in it, and it comes with mayo dips.

Celery with scallops.

Broccoli, tofu with different types of mushroom. Excellent.

Sweet and Sour Pork. I won't refuse this coz it's one of my fav food.

It comes with desserts too. Very milky but very refreshing as well.

If you realise, we are chicken feet pple! We ordered two trays of dim sums.
Chicken Feet is one way to test how good a chinese restaurant is right?
Yes, it's good. Much better than our frequently NUH Chook Feet. haha...

This Har Gao is good too!

Wondering where it is?
Here's the address:
135 Jurong East St 13
02-337 Singapore 600135

Oh ya, there's no Service Charge, but they provide excellent service though.
$65.90 for all of the above, plus tea, towel and peanuts.
