Colleagues and I have been extremely busy these few weeks. There have been so many issues at work. Some are having endless meetings. Some are planning the 'big move'. Some are settling the 'exam related matters'. The list goes on...

In times of great stress, it's therapeutic just take a short bus ride out for lunch. It's a good time for some to vent out their frustrations where the audience can't run away but listen. :-p

Our short bus ride this time was to Holland Drive Food Centre. It has been years since we came here. It's still as crowded as ever!  I was 'choping' seats while the rest to get their food. The first person to came back with this!

Braised Pig Trotters from Blanco Court Kway Chap. Looks good eh? 
(for those of you who hates fats or pork, this looks utterly grotesque. haha)

He had his delicious soft braised trotters with rice.





As I walked around, there were queues everywhere and I did not want to queue up so long for food. But this once very popular Blanco Court Kway Chap (that colleague bought his food from) has no queue! So I walked towards it and ordered my lunch.

I told the uncle, a mix of everything but no innards please. I just want plain food today.
So he gave me a mix of lean meat, tau pok, tau kwa and braised egg.




I love the way he scoop up the kway chap. He was like fishing thin pieces of kway chap from a huge container. When he scoops it out of the container, it looks so so silky and smooth. It's also so so thin and translucent. Then he pours the braised gravy over it, then suddenly everything becomes black. LOL

I like the kway chap. I think I enjoy eating plain kway chap with the gravy more than the meat and other stuff. ;-p

Pine Court Seafood @ Blk 43 Holland Drive

One colleague suddenly told the rest of us, another of our colleague (old cat) has been eating the 'hor fun' / 'chao mi fen' / 'mui fan' kind of dishes at this 'zhi char' at Buona Vista after work. It seems to be quite nice and he has been going back way too often.

We must try it out and see if it's nice. So we went there for lunch one fine day. It's at Blk 43 Holland Drive coffeeshop. The zhi char is called Pine Court Seafood.



We were really hungry that day and we ordered a few dishes to share.
We were recommended the tofu dish. Not too spectacular, but it was not bad. The green vegetable some hairy gourd.



We wanted to try the plain old sweet and sour pork, but we were recommended this instead. Fruity Pork Ribs. The ribs are nice.



We also ordered a deep fried long beans dish. I think all of us like long beans, so we found it good. We tasted some salted fish bits in it. Maybe that's what it nice?



Prawn Paste Chicken. Fragrant deep fried chicken. Who can resist it?



Zhi Char at coffeeshops are usually very economical and taste really good. Might come back again to bring the rest to try.

We were going to have some Indian food at the Holland Drive market. Our office attendant said his uncle has a stall there and the food's not bad, and ask us to patronize lah.... (No, she does not know we go around eating and take photos) When we reach there, we can't seem to find the stall. We were told, the stall beside the vegetarian stall. Alamak! Don't have! We spotted no new stalls.

Anyway, those in Singapore know that it has been so so so hot. The food centre is even hotter! 'Old cat' suggested, can we just go to Han's next door? With thoughts of air-conditioning, our feet automatically brought us there!

So we are back at Han's again. But this time to have proper meals and not cakes :-)

Dpuk has the Hainanese Pork Chop. Not too bad, a tomato-ish and yet a little spicy. We wallop it all, not leaving even a single pea behind. LOL...



'Old Cat' had the chicken stew. The stew is very home cooked taste. Dpuk and I said, this is the same taste on how we cook chicken dish at home. 'Old Cat' loves food that has this home cooked food taste, so he happily ate it.



Both of the above came with rice with a tiny bit of sambal.



Just like McDonalds, they are offering the 'would you like to upgrade?' options. So both of them did. Soup of the day which was pumpkin soup.



A slice of chocolate cake, and garlic bread plus a drink.
(We must state, the upgrade option's cake is not like those we tasted the other day. LOL! Get the hint ah!)



I was thinking of grandma's mei cai kou rou suddenly. She used to make like this huge pot that we will eat for days! Sigh. When she was alive long ago, and cooked so much of this, so frequently, we were kids and did not appreciate it. Now, when you want to eat it, no more chances :-(

Anyway, I ordered the Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables.



I never remember eating it with Acar, but it does go well together. (for me. hehe)



Mine's only plain rice. ;-)

Han's @ Buona Vista Community Club

Colleagues and I ate at this Nasi Briyani place that we did not think was very good on Friday. We did not like what we ate there, so we thought we should comfort ourselves with some desserts to cheer us up.

We ended up at Han's. It's this new (not so new now) 24 hour place that is at the Buona Vista Community Club. Han's has been around so so long, some people seem to have forgotten about them.

We ordered our drinks and had 3 cakes to share.

This is the Chocolate and Banana cake that's quite nice.

This cake is not too bad too. I forgot the exact name, but it's chocolate something.

This is blueberry crumble. We ordered this because the few of us just bought in total 6 punnets of blueberry from Fairprice that's just next door.

(Blueberries are on sale at Fairprice if you think you need to pack up on anti-oxidants, around $4.80 for 2 punnets)

My favourite was this crumble.

Prices of cakes ranges from around $2.90 to $5 for the cakes that we had above.

Sarena Nasi Padang @ Holland Drive

The other day, we all went to Big D's. One colleague who saw the long queue at the stall beside it. He then peeped at what the 'lauk lauk' at the Nasi Padang stall. He decided he got to eat from this stall.



When his food came, it smell so good.
It looks very delicious too right? This one one side of what he ordered. Curry Chicken and Sambal Terung (Brinjal)



We were tempted. We might come back here one day to try it ourselves. ;-)

Big D's Grill @ Holland Drive

One colleague (pirate) had been asking us to go try Big D's Grill after he read from 'the baker's blog that it's moving to Holland Drive.

Pirate and another few colleagues went there earlier this month, but found that it's not ready for business yet, so this time he's sure it's opened.

It's in the same kopitiam that the famous Holland V XO Bee Hoon. It's also just beside the new Buona Vista Community Club.



So, what did we eat?

DP ordered the Beer Battered Snapper (Fish&Chips) $8.90
The chips are nice, fish's not bad too.



Pirate had the Beef Goulash.
I had a piece and it's very soft and tender but a tad salty. Pirate said that it would be nice on rice. I think so too.



I had the Bang Bang Chicken $7.90
I think this is so so lah.. It's spicy, you get a burning sensation on your lips and tongue. LOL
I prefer pirate's beef.



Ms Tea had the Lasagne $12.90
It looks good doesn't it?



The food's not bad, but the coffeeshop during lunch time is too too warm!
It's also very pack. So go a bit early if you can. Also if you can, get a seat that's outside the coffeeshop. It's too warm sitting inside. You might enjoy the food better if you are not burning under the heat ;-)
