Wedding Dinner @ Grand Park City Hall

It's great to be back! Our first dinner when we got back was our cousin's wedding dinner!

We sacrificed not taking the later A380 flight but the earlier flight so that we can get back in time for the wedding dinner.

Congratulations our dear Josh and LK! What a wonderful couple you both are!

***

The wedding dinner was at Grand Park City Hall. As usual, the dinner started with very dim lights, so the first few photos are grainy, so pardon the 'not so clear' photos ;-)

The 1st Course: Grand Park Suckling Pig Combination.
There was Marinated Octopus, Roast Suckling Pig, Marinated Jellyfish, Prawn Salad, Crispy Crabmeat Ball.

My favourites on the combination plates are Octopus and Jellyfish ;-)

1st Course: Grand Park Suckling Pig Combination

***

2nd Course: Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Crabmeat & Four Treasures.

Guess what? They are teaching 5 year olds in kindergarten to love sharks nowadays! Our little nephew said no to eating shark! His dad said that! He then drew sharks on his little sketch book. Oh no, should I be guilty?

2nd Course: Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Crabmeat & Four Treasures

***

3rd Course: Sauteed Fresh Scallops, Asparagus with Macadamia Nuts in XO Sauce.

Sis and I looked at the Asparagus and smiled.
One of the many family activities we did while in UK was to pick strawberries and asparagus from the fields! Picking fruits and veg was really hard work, but it sure was fun. It was strawberries and asparagus season! Strawberries straight from the ground is so so delicious and it was warm! (It's summer now)

The kitchen prepared this dish very fabulously. The asparagus was tender and just enough XO Sauce to cover it all. We loved it!

3rd Course: Sauteed Fresh Scallops, Asparagus with Macadamia Nuts in XO Sauce

***

4th Course: Deep Fried Large Prawns in Wasabi Sauce Topped with Sesame Seeds

We realise many people are adding fruits to Chinese dishes nowadays. There were strawberries and grapes in this dish.

The wasabi prawns might not look so appetizing but it was crunchy and ambrosial.

4th Course: Deep Fried Large Prawns in Wasabi Sauce Topped with Sesame Seeds

***

5th Course: Steamed Red Garoupa in Hong Kong Style

The fish was not happy when we ate it eh?
Dear Fish, you did not die in vain! You were fresh and totally delectable.

5th Course: Steamed Red Garoupa in Hong Kong Style

***

6th Course: Roast Duck in Canton Style

Duck here was not bad. But.......

Guess what was our last dinner in UK before we arrived back in Singapore? The Roast Duck and Crispy Duck from Four Seasons London! LOL.

It's true, if you like duck, and happen to be in London, go try the Four Season Duck!

6th Course: Roast Duck in Canton Style

***

7th Course: Fried Udon Noodles with Seafood

Instead of the usual Yee Fu noodles, this rendition of Fried Udon was delicious!

7th Course: Fried Udon Noodles with Seafood

***

The 8th course was Cream of Mango Sago with Pomelo.

It was a good dinner. The moment the dinner ended, we rushed home.
We were so jet lagged and was looking forward to sleep in our own bed!

Congrats again Josh and LK!
It's also a great time to meet up with cousins and uncles and aunties who came in.

Wedding Dinner @ Peony Jade Restaurant, Keppel Club

This was the wedding dinner of two doctors from our church. These two doctors met when they went for a medical mission trip organised by the church and they have been going for all the trips. During the slide show, we were told they never met each other before although both grew up in the same church!

When wedding dinners are held in restaurants, you know the food's going to be exceptionally good! Yes, this dinner was nice, very nice. Guess what? The dinner was held over two nights! Our invite was for the Sunday night dinner and (even before we went) we heard from those who went for the Saturday night dinner that it was fabulous.  LOL...

The course started with the Szechuan / Cantonese Combination.
What was in the combination? Q Slice Suckling Pig, Prawns Salad with Fruits Crispy Vegetarian, Goose Roll, Sea Clams with Deluxe Vegetables, Jelly Fish & Octopus.

It's a combi of two kinds of scallops. Deep fried scallop with mango sauce, Stir-fried scallops & Kernel

This photo has the fried scallops half eaten/taken off the plate. I took this because it looks like a peacock!

I love the next dish. Roasted Duck in Fragrant Ginseng.
The duck was nice and not fatty.  Yummy!

The last course. It's Hot Sweetened Teochew "Oor Ni" Yam Paste with Sweet Corn in Coconut Milk.
This photo before being scooped up by the service staff is the nicest photo you can take of it. After scooping it into bowls, it looks like a huge lump.

Wedding Lunch @ Conrad Centennial Singapore

These photos had been left in my SD Card for some time. It's time to blog about it before it's forgotten. It was a wedding lunch Momo and I had on the last Sunday of 2009.

These beautiful roses greeted us. It was on all the tables and it stayed with us the entire afternoon. ;-)
Since it's occupying the centre of the table, our food was individually served.

Beautiful Roses

This is the first cold dish. It consists of sliced smoke duck, drunken chicken roll, spring rolls, jelly fish. I like the smoke duck!

Cold Dish

Next was the braised shark's fin with conpoy, bamboo pith and crabmeat.
Talking about Sharksfin, I think many of us are hypocrites right? We always say we don't support eating it, but when it's served, we said the shark has died for a purpose, and we should not let it die in vain.

Sharks Fin Soup

Next was steamed sea bass "hong kong" style. I love fish, any style!

Steamed Fish

Oh the next dish has Keropok! We had golden crispy roast chicken next. It was not dry at all. :-)

Roast Chicken and Keropok

The food was put on hold for a moment. We were shown a beautiful photo montage of the couple.
After that, the bride and groom enters the banquet hall again!
It was Yum Seng time!

Food resumed and we were served braised "lingzhi" mushroom with scallop served with seasonal green.
Mushroom, Broccoli and Scallops

Next was Wasabi Prawns. Wasabi was not strong enough for me! hehe...

Wasabi Prawns

When we saw the menu the next dish, we were wondering what it will be like!
This is the stir-fried Japanese ramen with assorted seafood.

Noodles

The final course or the dessert was hot cream of red bean with sago, lily bulb and dumpling.
Those who did have their Tang Yuan the week before, it's time to eat it. ;-)

Lastly, the little bear from Conrad Hotels.
I think it's available at all Conrad Hotels around the world? Momo's boss has a collection of it from different countries. Momo donated this bear to her boss' collection. ;-)

Congratulations to CL and YL!
The lunch menu you all picked was delicious!

Wedding Lunch @ Mandarin Oriental Singapore

Yesterday, we were invited to our friend, G's wedding lunch reception at Mandarin Oriental Singapore. G looked absolutely stunning in her wedding gowns.

G must be on of the most organised person around. We got sms to remind us before the wedding two times over two weeks. We also got a thank you sms today too!

So, what was on the menu?

The lunch started off with the Mandarin Oriental Combination - Lobster and Prawn with Seafood Roll. Looks good?

The braised shark's fin with crabmeat.
Good thing that not many sharks were killed. :-)

The Crispy King Prawn. It is served with honey sauce.
The prawns a little oily but was tasty!

This is the stewed duck with 5 treasures. The treasures: Chestnuts, Red Dates, Sea Whelk, Taro and Lotus Seeds. Delicious.

The Cod Fish Fillets. Baked fillets of cod in superior teriyaki sauce
We all like the cod. So soft and it melts in your mouth.

When we saw on the menu: Chilli Crab Mantous, we all asked each other, is it going to be the chilli crab that we know? Haha...

Well, it is! This is the chilli crab sauce! Is there crab meat inside? Yes!

The Man tou - Fried Mini buns. Golden brown and its calling out to us to eat them.

When we were served our individual portions, we can't wait to try it!
This must be the easiest way to eat Chilli Crabs! Look, there's lots of crab meat too. We were impressed!

With the previous dish bringing our hopes so high, errr, this next dish looks ugly. haha..

Wedding Lunch @ Shangri-la Singapore

This was a wedding lunch we had last Sunday. The bride and groom is the most 'gila' (fun loving ) people we know.

They said this is not your normal boring wedding banquet. They wanted their wedding luncheon to be as entertaining and fun possible for their friends. They did away with things that things they do not like in wedding lunch/dinners. Off goes the cake cutting and the champagne pouring.

They entertain us with live band with singers performing love songs. Their best friends and family members telling us their stories from young till now. The most entertaining was the groom's best friend telling the groom's darkest secrets. LOL

Anyway, the luncheon at Shangri-la is as follows:
We were served different kinds of bread. The following are the bread from our table.

The mini baguette. (for those with real teeth only)

Mini baguette

The brown/wholemeal(?) and healthy rolls. This actually taste quite good.

Mini hard roll

And the soft rolls. (for those who are on braces lol)

shang3

Guess what? We had two starters/appetizers. The bride and groom mentioned that during the food tasting, they like both starters that they were served and decided that all their guests can try both!

So, everyone on the table can choose one, and we are to share what we have with the persons beside you. (oh so typical of the bride and groom. lol)

This is the "Deep-fried Sesame Crusted Chicken Fillet, Mixed Nuts and Apple Salad, Hazelnut Dressing". The chicken's behind. I like the nuts and apple salad.

This is the other appetizer: "Tandoor-marinated Red Seabass Fillet, Avocado Mixed Salad, Citrus Dressing."

The seabass is nicely done and goes well with the Avocado Salad.

Then came the soup. "New England Corn and Clam Chowder, Creamy Leek Stew, sprinkled with Bacon Bits." Lovely soup that goes well with more bread rolls that were being served.

The main was "Chicken Teriyaki with Macaire Potatoes, Braised Endive, Assorted Mushroom Rogout." The macaire potato (twice cooked potato) is delicious. The chicken's also nicely done. I don't fancy endives though. LOL.

After that, it was a Dessert Buffet!
Can you guess what we had? :-)

Wedding Dinner @ Orchard Hotel

Last nite (Sat nite), I was at a wedding dinner. Hmmm these pictures don't look very good. The place is so dark, and I did not want to keep using flash. Food so so lah, a bit on the salty side..

Wedding dinners is a time to catch up with old friends, and taking photos with friends instead of food right? Hey, you know who you are, I shall send you all the link to download the photos :-)

Anyway, some of the food photos, after all this is Singapura food eaten. :-p

Part of the Deluxe Combi, part of the Suckling Piggy.
(Hey, there's now a group call ALL Lard Lovers in Facebook. haha..)

Wedding couple are shark lovers, so no sharks fin.
Here's Braised Fish Maw Soup with Crabmeat and Dried Scallop

Sauteed Shrimp with Cashew Nut and Honey Pea.

Braised Sliced Abalone with Whole Conpoy and Spinach.

Wedding Dinner @ Raffles the Plaza (Part 2)

Con't from yesterday.

Part 2 of the menu, or the lower part.

We were each served an abalone. Hmmm we wonder if we give angpow money or not? haha...

Braised Baby Abalone with Tianjin Cabbage in XO Oyster Sauce.
For me personally, I like the cabbage more! I am not an abalone eater.

Next was Steamed Live Dark Groupa in Supreme Sauce. I like fish!

Next Stir fried Bailing Mushroom with Capsicum and Waterchestnuts served in Yam Ring.

Then it was Stewed Ee-Fu Noodles with Shredded Abalone and Beansprouts.
I always like Ee-Fu noodles. Yummmmy!

For those who stayed back till the end, they get to enjoy:
Hot Sweetened Glutinous Rice Balls with Dates and Gingko Nuts, Lotus Seeds.

That ends the dinner. Pardon the blur pictures again, it was like snap snap quickly, walk to next table chat with friends, etc. It was a good meet up nite, and congratulations too to the Wedding Couple.
