Stall No 1 @ NUH Staff Canteen

This was our lunch few days ago. Colleagues and I went to the NUH Staff Canteen to eat. Colleagues heard that the pale looking noodles from Stall No 1 (ok we can't remember the name haha) seems to be quite popular. So they wanted to try it.

Well, the verdict, they said its ok lah.



I don't fancy yellow noodles, so I had the Xin Zhou He Fen. It's nice, but oily, really oily. Paradox? Nice but oily?



Somehow, someone will order the dumpling to share. Well, one thing for sure, everyone says this stall's dumplings are nice.



I am also not a dumpling person. I don't like to eat the skin. Breaking it up so that you can see what's inside. Think I have mentioned it before, you can order the uncooked dumpling home if you are having a dumpling party ;-)

Chicken Feet @ Kopitiam NUH

2 days ago (Thursday), we visited a colleague who has just given birth at NUH. After the visit, we though that we would visit the NUH Kopitam at Kent Ridge wing.

Ooo.. the chicken feet that had stopped selling sometime ago is back! (It might be back earlier, but we have not been visiting the hospital. who does? haha..)

Oh man, you should see the 'glee' on 2 of my colleague's faces. They only had 3 plates to sell us. So, we took it all. Today's feet is so big!



Fat & juicy too. :-p

Oh, 'wire' was on overdrive. He wanted more and was willing to wait for 20 mins for the next batch to be ready. We waited, (while we had other stuff). Here's the 2nd batch. 3 more plates of chicken feet.



Are the chicken on steroids or what? They seem to be big!



What is left behind... LOL.

Well, we think it might be the cheapest chicken feet you can find. $2 usually. But with the "yellow hospital kopitiam card", you get 20% off, and each plate costs only $1.60.

Mr Bean Ice Cream @ NUH

A few colleagues had the urge for chicken feet for lunch today. A nearby, cheap and decent chicken feet would be the Kopitiam at NUH Kent Ridge Wing. But alas, the 'auntie' that we used to buy from said, they are not selling it anymore! There goes our staff discounted pricing of $1.60 per steamer chicken feet . Where in Singapore can you get chicken feet for that price? Arrghhh....

NUH is becoming more and more like a shopping mall! We actually did some shopping at the pharmacies! (Both at the Kent Ridge Wing Pharmacy and also the Main Building Pharmacy.) It was as if the Great Singapore Sale is in the pharmacy!

It was raining, so while waiting for the rain to stop, a colleague 'almond jelly' asked if we wanted to try the Soya Bean Ice Cream? Ooo.. we did not know that Mr Bean sells ice cream now!



It's like soya bean milk! Very smooth as well. Not too sweet and texture is good too. We like it! Oh ya, notice the cone? It's the sugar cone or what some people call the 'aladdin cone', and not the KFC/Macs kind.



It says reduced sugar, reduced fat. So, eat without guilt! (It's 4.79g of fat per serving!)

Nasi Padang @ NUH Staff Canteen

For lunch today, colleagues and I ate at the NUH Staff Canteen, we heard that the Malay Stall has changed operators. So with great kepo-sity, we went there to try it out.

The previous stall operators were generous but their portions, but their food tends to be a bit sweetish side.

This new stall operator is still generous. Food is not as sweet, so it is better. We also like their selection of 'lauk'. It looks like there is 50% more variety than the previous operator. The signs are still the same, except that they 'tampal' a new menu and price list over the old one. haha..




Three of us ate at this stall, but only took 2 photos because we were already busy eating after that. LOL

Ms Preggie had this. Guess how much? 3 veg, 1 meat for $3.



I had this. Looks a bit messy but that's Nasi Padang. I had bitter gourd, a slice of asam fish and sambal goreng. Also $3. Think fish is more expensive. But still quite a good price.

The kuah for the asam fish is very very pedas! Truly sedap dan enak. The sambal goreng has generous servings of tempeh too and not so oily.



We also tapow some pisang goreng from this stall. 4 pieces for $1. It was quite nice too. Not a lot of flour but just covering the pisang that is about ripe.

Boleh tahan lah. We will come back for more in the future.

Since it is Malay food and there's banana fritters, let me correct some of you. I remember my Malay language teacher in primary school corrected us and I still remember it. Banana Fritters are called "Pisang Goreng". You eat 'pisang goreng' and not 'goreng pisang'. Goreng Pisang is the act of frying the banana.

Meat Dumlings @ Staff Canteen, NUH

This is one of my colleague's favourite. He seems to always order it when we are at eating at the NUH Staff Canteen.

Desserts @ 2 NUH Kopitiams

You can call us 'siao'. It's OK. haha... This was our desserts eaten on Monday.

Savoury Dessert, chicken feet at the Kopitiam at NUH Kent Ridge Wing.



Really, we ate our lunch, and this was dessert. We only had 3 'plates' because they ran out of it. Sigh...



Then after this dessert, we walked over to the Kopitiam at the NUH Main Building. This time it was sweet dessert. We also had 3 cendol.



The latter is far too sweet and had too much suntan. The suntan was even turning hard under the ice! haha...

You like 'sweet' or 'savoury' dessert? :-p

Indian Delight @ NUH Staff Canteen

I wonder how many of you correctly guessed the type of food I am having today. LOL.
Yes, it's Friday and Friday somehow becomes Indian Food Day.

We just decided to walk over to the NUH Staff Canteen today. Upon reaching, somehow 3 persons legs just brought them to the Indian Stall. I think the T has dropped down.



It's one of those stalls that serves food in metal plates that have compartments. No communal food today, we just ordered individual portions.

This is lamb from colleague's plate. Yummy? It's a bit tough, but they say it is good. 2 of them ordered lamb. I did not.



One of them also had this tauhu. So sedap looking right?



For me, I had chicken. I think it is quite nice. The food taster colleague took a tiny bit and said: "can" "pass". LOL



I had bean sprouts to go.



And I love this. Cucumber.



All of us had Nasi Briyani. For mine, it was covered with dahl curry. :-P



This Indian Stall in NUH Staff Canteen has been consistently quite good. It's average around $3.50 for the combi above.

Actually looking forward to Monday's lunch! LOL.

Malay Food @ NUS Staff Canteen

Today we went to the hospital. No, not to visit someone staying there, but to eat. Maybe it is in Singapore that hospital food taste good. (the ones not for patients obviously...) haha...

We had a colleague who had not join us for a while with us today. Welcome back! LOL...

Anyway, we all had different food, but 3 of us ate from this Malay Stall. Somehow, we just walked directly to the stall if we are here.

Why? Because we love the big portions and the variety too!

This was my lunch. Tau Geh, Chilli Brinjal and Mutton Rendang.



Another colleague had Bitter Gourd, Brinjal and Mutton Rendang too.
Realise the 3rd person also ordered something similar!



The other two love the reddish orangy chilli you see here.
All of us love the Mutton Rendang here. Usually there are 6-8 pieces of it!

Oh ya, this is the NUH Staff Canteen, not the fancy kopitiam at the NUH Main Building or 'more atas' class Kent Ridge Wing. NUH Staff Canteen is facing AYE, along Lower Kent Ridge Road.

Kopitiam Foodcourt @ National University Hospital

People think we are nuts when we say we want to have hospital food. Not the ones patients eat, but unhealthy but tasty ones meant for the healthy people. haha..

Colleagues and I call the Kopitiam Foodcourt at the NUH Kent Ridge Wing as the Chicken Feet place. Our nickname for places we want to go. We call it chicken feet because we will always order chicken feet here! No need for the photos, posted too many times of it.

4 of us ate from the same stall today. The Malay food stall. 3 of us had Nasi Briyani and 1 had Ayam Penyet (yes, again!).

It's spicy but it's not too bad. But just don't drink the soup that comes with it. You know how hospital food does not taste salty, well I think they donated their salt here to make soup!

It was a rainy afternoon today. Colleagues and I, we manage to get out before the rain started, but we were caught in the rain after. Good thing we happen to be at the Kopitiam at NUH.

Aha... The Chicken Feet colleagues ordered 4 more extra plates of chicken feet. (We already had one, 'tax' it from another colleague who was eating dim sum for lunch.)

We think it's the cheapest chicken feet that actually taste good in Singapore.

Kopitiam @ NUH : Cheapest chicken feet in town!

Today deciding where to eat for lunch, one colleague said: "Chicken Feet". Immediately we know where we are going!

The Dim Sum stall at Kopitiam NUH - Kent Ridge Wing actually has very delicious chicken feet. But take note that 90% of the time it is nice, the other 10%, depends on your luck! Really! We love it most of the time, but there was once, maybe the cook poured too much vinegar in it, it taste so sour!



Actually, today we only ordered 5 steamer trays of it.
To quote colleague who likes it very much. The chicken feet is soft enough, but not soft until 'nuah nuah' in hokkien. It still has a bit of chewiness to it.



There was once we ordered 10 of it. Our lunch gang has 6 persons usually.

Price? $2 per bamboo steamer tray.

Now, that's cheap and delicious phoenix claws!

Ayam Penyet @ NUH Kopitiam - Kent Ridge Wing

People do go to hospital not because they are sick, but because they are hungry! haha..

Colleagues and I, we do go to NUH to have food. There are 3 main places to have food in NUH. The NUH Staff Canteen, NUH Kopitiam Foodcourt at the Main Building, NUH Kopitiam Foodcourt at Kent Ridge Wing. Wait! There's another place, but the food is too healthy, and too expensive. Check yourself a room at NUH and you can eat their well balanced nutritional food! haha..

This is the Malay Stall selling Ayam Penyet at the Kent Ridge Wing Kopitiam.
3 of us ordered the same thing because a colleague said it was good. Yes, not bad, except for the accompanying soup which is a tad too salty.



Behind the pieces of chicken are 1 piece of fried tauhu and 1 piece of fried tempeh. The chilli is very very spicy. Even I tak boleh tahan!

By the way, penyet means flattened. Piak! Flat liao...
