Astons Prime @ The Centrepoint Orchard

We celebrated our sis's birthday at Astons Prime recently. Our Uncle and Aunt wanted to treat sis to a dinner and reserved a place at Astons Prime two weeks ago.

We have not visited Astons since it moved from Joo Chiat to The Centrepoint Orchard. We were so glad they moved. It's now more convenient for most people to get there.

*** Fried Oysters ***

Fried Oysters

For starters we had the Fried Oysters. ($12.90).

If you like oysters cooked and you like crispy batter, this is the combi that you would like! Don't think about the calories and you will enjoy it! Those who like oyster raw should order the Oyster on the Rock. :-)

*** Mushroom Soup ***

Soup of the Day: Mushroom Soup

The mushroom soup was part of the set meal if you order the US Kurobuta Pork Chop.

*** US Kurobuta Pork Chop ***

US Kurobuta Pork Chop

Our uncle had the Kurobuta pork chops with mushrooms and brussels sprouts as sides. ($29.90) He is one of the odd ones around that likes brussels sprouts! The pork was 100% done with very nice grill marks. I had a small piece of it and it tasted good. Not dry and still quite juicy inside. It goes really well with the sauce too.

*** Angus Rib X'tra Cut ***

Angus Rib X'tra Cut

Our cousin had the Angus beef ($23.90) and it was huge! We told her later that she should have just ordered the normal size. She was eating and eating and it does not seem to finish.

Almost half way through, I took a photo of how it looks inside. This was prepared medium done. The sides she ordered were fries and broccoli.

The meat from this cut was far superior compared to what I had.;-)

*** Steak and Chicken Combo ***

Steak & Chicken Combo

I had the steak and chicken combo ($23.90) because I wanted to try everything! *greedy fellow*
My beef was prepared 75% done. It was the way I like it. But after tasting our cousin's meat, I think her's was nicer!

The chicken had a nice crispy skin. The mushroom sauce was delicious with both meats.
The mushroom side was also very nice! It was soft and so flavourful.

*** Beer Battered Fish ***

Beer Battered Fish

Aunt had the beef battered fish ($14.90). It was two big pieces of fish that had really crispy batter.

*** Panfried Halibut ***

Panfried Halibut

Sis wanted fish and also fish prepared in a healthier way so she ordered the panfried halibut ($19.90). She found halibut a bit too fishy and aunt offered to swap her fish with this fish. (So it's back to fried fish for her. haha) I tried it, and thought it was not that fishy. Probably because I love and eat all kinds of fish :-)

So if you are not a fishy person, order the meats here. I think the meats here are nicer than the seafood. :-)
It's a nice place to have dinner. The place is quite packed even on a weekday night.

Noodle Place Restaurant @ The Centrepoint, Orchard.

A colleague buzzed all of us, saying let's go to Noodle Place Restaurant for lunch! Let's go there to have the noodles! The former Executive Chef of Mak's Noodles (HK), Chef Chui is now handling the kitchen here.

Guess what? When we sat down, while looking through the menu, none of us ordered the noodles! We were more attracted to the Congee!

This is the Noodle Place Special Congee (Zhao Pai Zhou) at $9.90.

Noodle Place Special Congee (zhao pai zhou)

Yes, all of us ordered the same thing. I think it was 6 big bowls of this delicious fragrant porridge.
Every bowl looks a bit different eh?

Noodle Place Special Congee (zhao pai zhou)

This is my bowl after giving it a good stir. You get everything inside.
- slices of abalone (1 had 2 slices, while my colleague said they only had 1)
- sliced fish
- fish maw
- fresh prawn
- meat balls
- pig's liver
- cuttle fish
- roast duck
- an egg (soft yolk that's why my stirred up porridge is yellowish. yum yum)
You know why we opted to have porridge instead now?

Noodle Place Special Congee (zhao pai zhou)

We are meat eaters, how could we resist not ordering a mix platter of the roast meats!

Roast Duck, Roast Pork, BBQ Pork with peanuts.

The Roast Pork has the crunchiest and crispy skin!

Ichiban Boshi @ The Centrepoint

It seems that the Ichiban range of restaurants is suddenly appearing everywhere! Suddenly there are so many Ichiban Boshi and Ichiban Sushi branches at the various malls. It has taken over the Pizza Hut location at The Centrepoint (opposite Prima).

Aunt wanted Jap food last Sunday, so we walked in. Really nice deco. Just showing 5 photos, I think I have too much Jap food photos that are too repetitive. hehe..

My cousin loves salmon, so remembered that colleague ordered this in another Ichiban at IMM, so we ordered this, and told them to hold the chilli.

I had the stone grill thingy and had unagi. (my hand shaky... photo not really in focus) haha..

The hotstone thingy came as a set, with salad and miso soup.
The salad are all pre-prepared and left in the fridge. Maybe the fridge is too cold because some leaves have been 'cooked' by the cold. OK lah, since they are so new and so busy. It will improve.

Anyway, desserts time. Uncle and cousin shared this "peach" ice cream.

Aunt and I, we shared this macha ice cream. I love it. The ice cream on top, the middle layer is creamy tofu like thingy, and red bean below. It goes very well.

Have a good week ahead. 2 more working days for this week.

Yikowei @ The Centrepoint

Last Sunday, we decided to go to The Centrepoint at Orchard Rd because it was the last day of the sale at Robinsons.

The usual places to eat there is so predictable, so we thought we will walk down the Basement 2. We walked and thought hmmm new shop, should we give it a try? So we walked in and sat down. Looked at the menu, so boring, thought we should have gone opposite shop instead.

Anyway, we ordered 1 fried rice and 1 XO beehoon. We thought we will just make it quick and get on with shopping.

When the food came, we tried it, ey, not that bad leh. Still can pass. haha...

Fried Rice something, sis said Crystal Jade better, but ok lah, its less pricy here :-)

We also ordered XO Bee hoon. It actually taste quite ok. This picture is actually the 2nd plate we ordered. The original one came with 9-10 prawns. Uncle's coming to join us, he does not eat prawns, so they actually accommodated by changing the ingredients to have sotong and chicken meat instead. That gave us a good impression.

While we were at it, we saw the counter had Kueh Pai Tee, so we ordered. It came in a plate like this. Wah. Never seen pai tee served like this. It was not too bad too.

Good alternative to Pizza Hut, Prima Taste etc at this mall. Rice and Noodles around $9, Paitee ( 5 pieces) for around $6 I think. Place still new, so no GST yet. haha... Usual service tax still applies.

환영 - 2

As promised, here's the main course dishes. It was all in a set and they all taste excellent.

Started with Ginseng Chicken soup. For someone who does not really fancy ginseng, this was ok to drink. Not strong ginseng taste and not overfully heaty.

Next came the rice, otherwise known as bibiba. Its a korean rice dish, where you see different ingredients like beef, carrots, spinach, mushrooms, some seaweed and an un-cooked egg yolk in the centre. You are suppose to mix it all up with some chilli sauce, breaking the egg yolk. Traditionally, this is served in a stone pot.

Lastly, a fish, also known as saba fish. Something like the japanese ones. At the side is a slice of lemon for people who are afraid of the fishy taste.

Enjoyed everything here :)

환영 - Welcome

I simply love Korean food. Before the main dishes arrived to the table, they always serve you 4 to 6 dishes of appetisers. And each one taste quite different. This was eaten at Crystal Jade Korean @ Centrepoint.

Started with korean bean sprouts. These don't taste like the ordinary ones, its has more "beannie" taste.

Next came the traditional kimchi. Ooo, this was spicy! But if you love spicy and sour together, this is good.

Following that, green vegetables. Cant remember what's this called, but its a tad oily.

Then came something that tasted like radish.

This is also radish, prepared in another way. This one doesnt taste as spicy as the kim chi.

Lastly, eggplant with capsicum.

Just those 6 appetisers, we were already 1/2 filled. And the main course was not served yet! That comes tomorrow ;)

Prima Taste @ Centrepoint (Part 2)

Some of you got it spot on! It's Rojak! I love the 'you tiao' inside it!

This is Bak Kut Teh, sorry picture a bit blur :-p It's the peppery type.

Mee Siam. This is what I had. The 'tau jiu' taste is very strong :-)

This is Satay Bee Hoon.

The Yong Tau Foo Laksa.

There you go, a few of the most well loved local food of Singapore, all in one place.

Prima Taste @ Centrepoint

Our family sometimes pop by here if we are going shopping in Robinsons. Why? It's nearby lor. It's fast and food's not bad too.

Prima-taste Kitchen. Where they are famous for the pre-mix and paste that makes cooking so easy. I think lots of people especially those who miss Singapore/Asian food will cart back tonnes of these stuff.

I shall not be posting any food pics today. People complain that food pics make them hungry. Well, this place you queue up and the lady at the entrance will find you a table. Pass you an empty pad with food list inside. Tick what you want and bring it to the counter and pay.

After paying you get wooden tokens like these above. Yes, we ordered something twice! It was just yummy and we were feeling a bit greedy. haha...

This empty plate is what we ordered twice. Can anyone guess what it is? The leftover are some hints. LOL... Stay tuned tomorrow to see what we ate here.

Meanwhile, make your guess.
