Ming Kee Live Seafood @ McPherson Road

We are back again here. Our aunt heard us describing the food here and said we should bring her here, so we did. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our extended family came and there was 9 of us.

As usual, (I think is the lady boss) took our orders. I think everyone that comes here practically orders the same things! Depending on how many people, you order the different sizes and number of varieties.

We had 9 of us, so everyone could try more things. This is the crispy fish skin. The little ones in the family liked it the most.

Crispy Fish Skin

The tofu, mushroom and broccoli was nice too. I love biting into braised mushrooms. *smile*

Tofu, mushroom and broccoli

We were telling aunt about the 'hua la' that we had, so she was expecting it.
But we were told that there's no hua la today. They had the big lala today. It was equally nice. Oh, this sauce goes well with the crispy fish skin.

Tua Tao

Aunt was glad that there's the bamboo clams. We thought the kids wont like it as it had lots of garlic. We were wrong. They actually liked the butter fried garlic with the bamboo clams.

Bamboo Clams

Ah.. the crabs. Sis' favourite. Maybe not only sis, but a few person on the table's favourite.

2 Crabs for our Crab Bee Hoon

This is the youngest girl on the table, our P4 niece picking up a crab. Her hands are so small and the crab claws so big!

The little girl wants the crab

The "Or Bit" (in hokkien) or Guinness Pork Ribs. They were good. Not very strong, just nice.

Guinness Pork

The pork ribs and this is part of the combi platter. The 'this' is fried chicken wrapped with I think it was tofu skin. Very nice and it's moist inside.

Fried Chicken Wraps

By the time we had all the above, we were already so full. Oops we over ordered.
But this is not bad though. The Nyonya style Patin Fish. We think the fish is slightly undercooked though.

The dessert to sweetened our meal. Or Nee - Yam Paste, that's topped with so much gingko.

Or Nee

If you are coming to try the food here, we recommend you place a booking. It's alwyas crowded.

Ming Kee Live Seafood @ MacPherson Road (Pt II)

Continuation from yesterday's post.

Other than the delicious crab, we discovered something even more delicious here!
The Bamboo Clams! Each of us had one plate of it. *glutton look*

Bamboo Clams

They are huge isn't it?
This is just one little part of the end of it. It's soft and yet a little crunchy. You should try it and I am sure you will like it.

The garlic sauteed in butter that's poured over it makes this dish divine!

Bamboo Clams

Another of the signature dish is the Guinness Pork. They recommend that we have a combi so that we could try more things!

Guinness Pork & Smoked Duck

Close up shots of the combi.
Smoked Duck. It's quite good.

Smoked Duck

The Guinness Pork. I suddenly remembered coffee pork etc I have eaten elsewhere. Compared this with coffee pork, this beats coffee pork anytime! I think it's because Guinness Pork does not leave a bitter aftertaste :-)

Guinness Pork

More vegies. The Spicy 4 Season Bean.
It's spicilicious!

Spicy Four Season Beans

Time passes so fast when you are enjoying your food and chatting with friends. Before you know it, we managed to finish so much food!

But wait, we still wanna order dessert. We are just gluttons and want to try more of their signature dishes. So we ordered their Coconut Jelly. Just looking at it makes you wanna try it right?

Coconut Jelly

For lovers of Or Nee, you should try this.
Looks good? The texture's good too, so does the taste. :-p

Or Nee

It's wonderful to meet up with food loving friends.
Too bad that two other friends can't make it.

Ming Kee Live Seafood @ MacPherson Road (Pt I)

Last Saturday, Sis, Momo and I met up with a group of friends who love to eat and also happen to like take photos of what they eat too! You most probably also know them if you visit Singapore Food Blogs :-)

We had dinner with (in alphabetical order) AromaCookery & husband, Camemberu, HungryCow, and Nic+XLB.

When the 3 of us entered the restaurant, we saw Nic & XLB already seated at the corner table. We did notice that our table is different from other tables! It was huge and had 'royalty' like chairs. Wah..... We wondered if HungryCow who booked the place is some VVIP in Singapore?

While we waited for the rest to come, the little plates of nibbles were tempting us :-)

Nibbles and Condiments

So what did we eat? We were recommended the following dishes.
Fried Fish Skin that you dip in the warm soy based sauce. (the little bowl behind) When you did it you can hear the skin crackle! It's tasty too!

Do you know why the group decided to have this? The rest are so playful! It was because the lady who recommend this to us said it's like eating fish keropok! Aiya, these people ah....

Crispy Fish Skin

We also had 'Hua La' with garlic. (Hua la's the bigger version of the usual Lala, and it's sweeter too!) You can see the shell is very flowery (hua) pattern on it.

Hua La / Flower Pipis / Flower Clams

I tell you it's delicious!
Especially with loads of garlic that's fried.

Hua La / Flower Pipis / Flower Clams

The steamed Soon Hock fish.

One of the reasons we came here was because of their Signature Crab Bee Hoon.
Two large crabs, crabs with the claws so big, you can shake hands with it! Click here to view the 'shaking of hands'.

Signature Crab Bee Hoon

The Bee Hoon is so flavourful. It has soaked up the crab taste, it's as if you can taste the flavour of the sea in it. (ok ok, I have been watching too much korean food dramas to talk like that. haha)

Good boys and girls eat vegetables. Here's our portion of it in the form of their signature tofu dish.

But wait, there's more. Click here to continue...

Ming Kee Live Seafood @ 556 MacPherson Road (Part 2)

Continuation from yesterday's.....

We also had a fish. A very beautiful fish on our table! We were all quite amused with the standing fish! Steamed Teo Chew style.

It was big and you can see the amount of flesh! We really love it. You can just lick up the soup on the plate. haha...

For veggies, we had the 3 kind of eggs cooked with Nai Bai.

Aha! Why Momo wanted to come here for was for the Crab Mee Hoon!
We had 4 gigantic crabs, 2 per table like in this photo.

Big huge claws. We have a few crab lovers with us who thoroughly loved them!

We were a happy happy lot. The total bill was $610. Divided by 19 pple, $32 a person, decent.

Ming Kee Live Seafood @ 556 MacPherson Road

Last Saturday, we gave our friend Momo a surprise party. She was to go to Ming Kee with another friend (DKoh) to eat here because of the reviews they heard about this place. But... hey, the 18 other of us wants to eat too! So a plan was hatched.

We are going to surprise her and give her a treat here. With so many of us, we can order more food to try right? Birthday girl benefits, the rest of us too! *mua ha ha* Well, the planned worked! Two weeks of hard work paid off! She did not realize anything. haha...

The things we do, hiding below tables when she is spotted at the front coming in. 3 cameras were ready to snap photos!

So, what did we eat? The recommendation by the restaurant follows:
This is a 2 in 1 kind of dish. On one side is Guinness Stout Pork Ribs, oh now yummilicious!

On the other side is chicken. Can you imagine the taste yourself? :-p

Next it is Tian Ji (Frog legs) with Chicken Essence. Very nutritious dish!

You should try it! Really!

Next, it is baby squid that is steamed and topped with loads of garlic!
Half the table loved this, and haha... the other half can't stand the garlic.

Then we had homemade tofu with broccoli and mushroom. Wonderful!

By the way, we were split into 2 tables, so everything was replicated on the other table. Or else how to feed the 19 of us!

Coming up.... what is Ming Kee famous for?
