Food Bloggers Recommends @ Swensen's Singapore

How many of you grew up going to Swensen's and still order the same starters that you have since long ago? My wife always orders the Deep Fried Mushrooms in Swensen's. I don't know why, but we always eat it when we dine at Swensens!

I have been getting tagged on Instagram and Facebook because friends and readers have seen this menu at Swensen's.  It's a special menu that chef has come out with using the high quality ingredients and asking 4 food bloggers in Singapore to choose what they like best. Best of all, the prices are very reasonable!

Swensens

Oh yes, I am a bit shy, so it's a caricature for my face on the cover.

Swensens

The menu opens up to look like our blogs!
The dishes are photographs by the 4 of us too, and it's shot in a Swensen's Restaurant itself.

Swensens

Have you tried the dishes? Let us know how you think!

Swensens
 Crispy Cereal King Prawns $19.90

If you like cereal prawns, you would like this version of it. This is using King Prawns, it's 4 big prawns for $19.90. Deep fried till crispy using their own home made batter. Served with steak cut fries and meslun salad. Quite a good value!

To make it easier for most people to eat, they have butterfly the prawns so it's easier for you to cut the crispy and yet still juicy flesh out of the shell. I recommend just using your hands to enjoy it!

This is my recommendation.

Swensens

Herb Crusted King Snapper $15.90

If you like fish, this version uses King Snapper, which I like!
This is Camemberu's recommendation.

Swensens
Spiced Maple Syrup Waffle $14.90

If you like waffle and deep fried chicken, this is for you.
DanielFoodDiary's recommendation.

Swensens
Braised BBQ Beef Cheeks $21.90

A Beef Cheeks person? You will know this is for you.
LadyIronChef's recommendation.

Go try it at the nearest Swensen's near you!
This is the September-October Special Menu and October is ending soon! Hurry!

We did not forget that people go to Swensen's for Ice Cream! If you order the sets, there's a recommended ice cream that pairs with the dish, the ice cream has been discounted if you order the special meals. How's that?

600 calories or less meal: Swensen's

This was an invited food tasting session courtesy of the Singapore Health Promotion Board.

Has the Health Promotion Board folks been counting my calorie intake? They probably are. What makes me think so, you might be asking. Well.....

I got an email recently to join the Health Promotion Board Corporate Communication folks and 2 of their nutritionists for a food tour to 5 different eating places. They are on a mission to educate me, (and probably all you readers too) that lower calorie food can taste good too! I did a short post here few days ago.

Here's our quests for 600 or less calorie meals.

Here's Destination No. 1:

Earle Swensen's at VivoCity.

Cod with Veggies and Mixed Rice Grains

Swensen's has introduce this low calorie dish that is healthy and yet tasty.
This is their Grilled Cod Fish with Wild Rice set. ($25.90 with a choice of freshly brewed coffee or tea)

They had mixed the white rice with black glutinous rice (pulut hitam). (At home we mix white rice with brown rice, but I had never tried white rice with black glutinous rice before. This combination does taste good.)

The whole dish had a very clean clear look. It does look plain, but what they have done is to make the clear broth very tasty. So this dish tasted rather delicious.

Cod with Veggies and Mixed Rice Grains

The cod had been grilled so less oil was used. Cod's already an oily fish.
Can you believe the dish above together a cup of coffee or tea was about 600 calories only?

Most guys need about 2200 calories a day and ladies 1800 calories. So 600 is just about nice for 1 out of the 3 meals you eat a day. For the guys, if you divide 2200 by 3, you get 733. So that entitles you to try the following low calorie ice cream!

Swensens Ice Cream

One scoop of ice cream is usually about 300 calories. Swensen's has come out with a slightly lower calorie ice cream that still tasted ok! The above are the 200 calories ice cream. I personally liked the chocolate better than the vanilla or strawberry. ;-)

The 200 calories a scoop ice cream only comes in 3 flavours, chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.

*** Christmas Commercial Break ***

The Swensen's folks decided to let us try their Christmas Log cake.
The HPB nutritionists were around! Oh Oh.. How? Can we try it?

Christmas Ice Cream Log Cake

The HPB Corp Comm folks are the nicest folks around. They agreed but stressed that we must emphasize that this is not part of the low calorie diet. This is a special treat for Christmas ok?

The log cake is called the Chendol Jubilee.
Calories unknown, but price that I saw on the way out on the fridge counter was $52.45 with GST.

Christmas Ice Cream Log Cake

Frozen chendol and palm sugar. What an indulgence. It was good!

Since all of us was in the company of the HPB folks, we behaved and showed some restraint. Most of us did not touch the fresh cream layer that surrounded the cake. *laugh at us if you want*

The Grilled Cod Fish with Wild Rice is available for Dine In only at all Swensen's till 31 December 2010. This set does not includes the Buffet Salad Bar.

Birthday Party - Swensen's Ice Cream Cake & Domino's Pizza

Recently, my sis organised a birthday party for an 8 year old at our home. The boy is the youngest son of a member of the choir that sis conducts. The boy likes to come to our place. (to play Nintendo Wii. He has a set at home too, but always loses to his older brothers, so he wants to play with us who are not so good, so can always win! haha)

The little boy invited a few friends over and their parents over as well. It was a Wii Party. The main attraction was Wii Fit!

The little boy knows what he wants to the birthday cake. So sis ordered the cake as specified by the boy. A Winnie the Pooh Ice Cream cake from Swensen's. It's a huge ice cream cake!

Ice Cream Cake from Swensens

It's a very easy to organise party. Kids love pizza and so the birthday boy and his brother used sis' netbook to order the pizza they want. We ordered from Domino's since we live near to one!

We were glad we ordered from Domino's. Their pizza arrived very fast and it was nice!
I think this is called Extravaganzza. I like this one.

Extravaganza

The Hawaiian Paradise. I had a small slice of it, it was good too.

Hawaiian Paradise

The Classic Pepperoni. Hmm kids eat pepperonis now? That's cured pork beef salami right?
You are constantly surprise by kids nowadays!

Pepperoni

This is so so 'wrong'. You know what they ordered?
It's a half-half. (Sis told us, had to pay extra for half-half) It's half vegetarian and half meat!

It's Very Veggie with Meatzza! I laughed when I saw this.

Half & Half - Very Veggie & Meatzza

The kids sure enjoyed themselves picking what they want to eat.
The Garlic Cheese Onion Rings. This is so so lah...

Garlic Cheese Onion Rings

They also had two packs of wings. This is the BBQ Wing.

The other pack is the Hot & Spicy Wings. Oh, that one is full of vinegar and the kids said yuks! when they put it in their mouth. LOL... Their parents have to finish it.

We got an advice for another kid (I think he's only 6) in the party. He said, Pizza from Domino's is nice, but their chicken wings are horrible. You want chicken wings, order from Pizza Hut. Is it true?

BBQ Wings

The Cinnastix. This is ok, very cinnamon-ish, but very oily too! Look at the box!

Cinnastix

This is the Breadstix. So so, for carbo lovers only! (I am not a huge fan of it haha)

Breadstix

The Twisty bread. I was too full, enjoyed eating the pizza I did not touch this at all! I wonder how it tasted!

Twisty Bread

It was a fun time with the little kids. All the carbo was burnt off while playing Wii Fit!

My colleagues have been saying Domino's pizzas are nice. I guess it's true!

The other day, on the 2nd day of CNY, Momo ordered Domino's. Their delivery took 1.5 hours to arrive and guess what, their pizza was free!

Swensen @ Suntec City

Met Momo for lunch today. We were wondering what to eat and was walking around and we noticed that the Swensen's One for One offer is back again.

I am not sure if the offer is back at all branches, but it is for the Suntec City branch.
Probably because of F1 we reckon. Check with them if you want to come for this offer. The offer ends 27 Sep as stated on their promo board.

I am eating 'healthier' now. I had the Grilled Chicken Salad. I think it's quite nice. I like the greens!

Grilled Chicken Salad

I am just going to copy the description from their menu. ;-)

Their description: Crisp lettuce, cabbage and carrots with crunchy almonds and grilled chicken with pickled mayonnaise dressing.

Grilled Chicken Salad

Momo and I shared another salad. Prawn and Fruit salad.
Their description: Crisp lettuce with prawns and chunky tropical fruits with mango yogurt dressing.
The chunky fruit they served us was Nangka (Jackfruit). Very unique!

Prawn & Fruit Salad

Momo is now the carnivor. This is her Mega Mushroom Burger.
Their description: Sautéed mushrooms atop juicy beef patty, with gherkins, melted cheese and pepper sauce. Served with U.S. fries and coleslaw.

I tried some of it. Not too bad. The beef patty has this very old fashion taste. Not sure how to describe it. It's not the big M or BK burger taste. :-) The mushroom makes it rather nice.

Mega Mushroom Burger

If you happen to be around this area, and want to look for not too bad a deal. It looks like we are not the only people attracted to it. We noticed the tables around us, whenever they were seated, they immediately ask the servers how the deals goes.

Everything on the menu is valid for the one for one, except ice cream and drinks. We heard it so many times today!

I just realised something!! Why did we order 3 things? We should have ordered 4 items! The fourth item would be free right? Oh silly billy us.

Swenson's @ IMM

Part II of cousin's birthday that we celebrated with other cousins. Ya, we got a big family.
The kids wanted Swenson's. So off we went to Swenson's.

(The adults were thinking, err Swenwon's ah... but OK lah... It is better than Swenson's of long ago. haha.. )

While waiting for others to arrive, we ordered some appetizers first. Most of us were famished! So here's the Calamari Rings.

Calamari Rings

Stuffed Mushrooms. These are not bad!

Deep Fried Mushrooms

Some new stuff on their menu, Spice 'n' Chic.

Spice 'n' Chic

Rodeo Wings. Hmmm...

Rodeo Wings

Uncle and a few persons shared this. Clam Chowder in Sourdough.
We were thinking of the sourdough bread in San Francisco while having this. Of course the one in SF is nicer. :-)

Clam Chowder in Sourdough breadbowl

Guess what I had for dinner? Oriental Beef Salad!
I think I got to cut down on what I eat! hehe.... This salad is very huge.

Oriental Beef salad

You can be quite full eating just this salad. (I had a soup of the day to go too)

Oriental Beef salad

The smallest amongst us had the Children's meal.
The mini burger.

Children's meal

I can't remember who had what... but here's what one of us had:

The Teriyaki Chicken Pasta.

Teriyaki Chicken Pasta

Fish and Chips

Fish and Chips

Crayfish Pasta. I think the birthday girl had this.

Crayfish pasta

Pesto Salmon Saute.

Pesto Salmon Sauté

With all the above, we were quite full. No one can eat anymore food. But just for the fun of it, aunt ordered a mini mini 'ice cream cake'. :-)

3 scoops of ice cream

Ice cream is still the nicest thing to have in Swenson's. LOL...

Swensen @ Suntec City

This whole week around 20 over colleagues from various departments at my workplace are all attending a course at 'Oracle University' at Suntec City. If you have attended courses by them, you know that part of the course is a buffet lunch on the first day.

But due to the buffet place being not halal certified, the person who organised the course asked for it to be changed to somewhere halal. So, we were brought to Swensen's. (If you attended the courses few years ago, the place they bring you to is the buffet at Pan Pacific, but with austerity measures and cheaper course fees....... 'nuf said..)

We were told, order anything as long as it's around $20. You can imagine, everyone was flipping the menu trying to maximise their quota of $20. We were like, what to order to get the most out of it? Then someone even asked, must we include GST and service charge? haha.... We know they are just joking. No matter what we order, they will foot the bill.

We were seated on a long table. Most people don't know I document my daily meals, so I only took a few photo of lunch eaten by me and people sitting beside me.

The Mega Burger.

Mega Burger

I had the Half BBQ Chicken. There's mash potato behind it. It tasted quite ok. Can't really go wrong with chicken.

BBQ Half Chicken

Another colleague had the Spaghetti Aglio Olio.

Spaghetti Aglio Olio

What most of us did was to order something around $15 and order two scoops of ice cream to make it $20. LOL..

So here's some of the ice cream shots. I had Sticky Chewy Chocolate (behind) and Peanut Butter something. Nice...

Swensens Ice Cream

I have no idea what these other flavours are, but they all tasted very nice. We were sharing the ice cream around ;-)

Think most of us associate Swensen's with Ice Cream. Think their ice cream is better than their food. Main thing to order here is ice cream.

(Psst, after our lunch that day, we have been walking past and realise that there's a one for one lunch deal, we were wondering... hey.... does that mean our lunch just cost $10? haha.... we should have ordered more!)
