600 calories or less meal: O'Briens at SGH

This was an invited food tasting session courtesy of the Singapore Health Promotion Board.

Here's Destination No. 4:
O'Briens at Singapore General Hospital

Obriens Lower Calorie Specials

We were quite surprised that we were brought to the hospital for food tasting! Are we going to get so clinical about counting calories? ( I sound lame?)

It was not hospital food that we were tasting. It was O'Briens Lower Calorie Specials.

The healthier options were either the wholemeal sandwich or the wholemeal pasta salad with a box of fruits.

Obriens Wholemeal Pasta Salad

The wholemeal pasta salad served was huge! That's a normal size fork. (Take a fork out to compare if you want to know the size) If you are a small eater, I would recommend that you share it with another person.

I am not an 'olive eating' person, so I did not eat any olives. Although it was wholemeal pasta, it did taste quite pleasant. If you are not used to wholemeal food, try eating a few mouths first, your taste-buds would get to like it. After that, you can probably wallop it all. The dressing is a bit too oily for me. (Probably because I usually have my salads naked! i.e. no dressing)

Obriens Turkey Cranberry Wholemeal Sandwich

If you are more of a bread person, this cranberry sauce with turkey breast ham is nice.
After eating at 3 places before coming here, I was full and did not want to have anymore food. But after tasting 1 triangle of the sandwich, I took another one! I like the mixture of savoury and sweetness is rather pleasant.

Obriens Fruit Box

The big box of cold cut fruits was an absolute delight. We asked the HPB folks: "There's so much fruits, won't it exceed the 600 calories limit?" No, they replied. But to keep to the 600 calories, no coffee or tea.

The 4 bloggers were busy eating the fruits and taking photos but we noticed something. (Since the last stop,) the nutritionists stopped touching their food. Have they been counting calories and stop eating when their quota was reached? Or they are shocked at how we can eat so much?

Chicken Sandwich @ Spinelli

Wednesdays are my Cardio Fusion days. We begin with kickboxing or aerobics every alternate week for half an hour, and then continue with another half an hour of upper or lower body strengthening also on alternate weeks.

Colleague said I should go try Spinelli's salads. So after exercise I went, but aiya, too late, no more. So I ended up with a Chicken Sandwich. It's toasted just before serving as well even though I requested for take away.

Why only half? Because I was too hungry and much it down and then realise, oops, forgot to take photo.

It's not too bad. I think I might have it again next week, if the salad's sold out again.

Sardine Sandwich with Oranges.

This was prepared last Saturday morning. A simple breakfast to go with cable television. haha...

1 can of Ayam Brand Sardine with Lime (new flavour, it comes with lime now)
1 bunch of parsley (cilantro)
2 naval oranges
a few slices of white bread.

- Pour the sardines into a bowl and crush it.
- Cut up the bunch of parsley finely and then pour them in the bowl and mix well.

Spread the sardines on the white bread.

Cut up the oranges into tiny chunks. Serve them on top if you like.
I think the cold juicy orange chunks makes it really tasty!

Usually I will add in some onions and lime, but since it comes with lime now, and I am too lazy to cut the onions, I just totally omit it.

Just a simple breakfast from ingredients found in the fridge and pantry.

Cafe at the Museum

Finally had a chance to step into the newly opened (rather it opened in Dec 2006) Singapore Museum, after a 3-year facelift. Decided to try the cafe there, which was previously known as Wa Cafe. Now it is known as Novus cafe by day and probably Novus Bar by night.

Ordered a Ice Mocha - as it was a 34 degrees sunny day. Nothing to "wa"(dont mind the pun) about. Looks quite ordinary with chocolate sauce at the bottom. But the coffee has "oophm".

Next, served was Roast Beef Sandwich with homebaked Spelt Melt bread. I have not heard of Spelt Melt bread. From what you see, its looks like brown bread with lots of nutritious nuts ;)

When you lift the top piece of bread, you will see lots of beef packed inside! This sandwich includes slices of grilled tomatoes and some leaves of lettuce. Also its spread with horseradish sauce. Very good combination and very delicious.

The meal is finished off with a cake. Not a very unique name, the cake is just called "Dark Chocolate Cake". Soaked in chocolate sauce, this is absolutely melt in the mouth :P

After that if can start your tour of the Singapore Museum. Enjoy.
