Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

It's the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year. Both KopiKosongGirl and I took leave to have lunch with both sets of parents. We are very grateful that since we got married, both sets of parents have been getting along well. Both sides are so 'ke qi' / superly polite as we the 'middle men' have been bringing new year goodies between the two sides.

We are also 'learning' the rules of politeness or rules of being sort of "respectful / not be greedy / modest" all lumped into one. Giving oranges, taking only part of it, and giving back the rest. Sometimes we don't even know the customs, so both sides are teaching us.

So on the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, the arrangement was made, we will have lunch at Crystal Jade, Holland Village. It's the nearest Crystal Jade to where both sets of parents are. Just in case it's not opened, we called the restaurant. The lady who picked up said, yes, you are talking to me now! Come quickly, it's going to be really packed today!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
Can't resist now having Yu Sheng!
We noticed that their version here is a little different, they have fried yam strips!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
After the nice and auspicious words were proclaimed, we are ready to toss!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
Woo hoo! The cleanest surface so far! Everyone's so so polite, doing it so slowly.
Both sides calling each other 'chin kei'. A bit can't get used to it!

We kind of like Crystal Jade's version of Yu Sheng. The yam strips were quite tasty, giving a bit of crunch to it!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
We were having a Dim Sum lunch. Both sets of dads like fried rice, but I changed it to noodles. Don't really fancy eating fried rice though it's nice. Noodles probably have a nicer meaning too!

Noodles - may we with God's blessing have a long healthy life!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
We had double sets of everything, not because we want double blessings or meaning, it's because each serving only serves portions for 3 persons!

The fried tofu skin with shrimp stuffing. The chef must be really happy after resting two days. That day's version was really nice! Crispy on the outside and inside it's moist, not oily.

Prawns - may we all have a 'ha ha' (prawns in Cantonese) happy year ahead! Wishing all joy in the Lord!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
My favourite, the phoenix claws, the nice name for braised chicken feet.

Phoenix - may we have good fortune and opportunities according to His will.

Crystal Jade Kitchen
Cha Siu Buns, love these buns too.
Eat it hot while it's still soft and fluffy. I know it's carbo, but carbo always taste so nice doesn't it?

Buns - May we through the grace of God have a-BUN-dance in all we do and play!

Crystal Jade Kitchen
Steamed Pork Ribs. My favourite too. So tender and flavourful.
It's easy to prepare this at home too!

Pork - Signifies strength and wealth. May the Lord bestow it to us if He finds us faithful.

Crystal Jade Kitchen
Siew Mai. Someone just has to order it when we have Dim Sum.
I am sure if you go out for Dim Sum, someone will want them.

Siew Mai, looking like little golden ingots. Wishing all you readers a healthy year ahead! May prosperity and blessings rain on you like our current monsoon rain. May graciousness, kindness and love flood and overflow all relationships.

Have a Blessed Year ahead!

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Isetan Scotts

It was one of the days we were walking where the ladies were shopping and the guys were window shop. After walking around 4 or 5 hours, your legs grow tired and weary. You also get hungry and angry. LOL

We just wanted to have a quick dinner and be done with dinner. LOL

I am sure you all have this feeling every now and then. After walking around, our last stop was at Isetan Scotts. As it was dinner time, we thought we would just eat at the same building.

We decided on Chinese food, so we end up at Crystal Jade Kitchen. Wow, this place seems to be popular, it's quite packed!

*** Veggies and Tofu ***

Just a simple tofu and veggies dish.

Veggies with Tofu

*** Claypot Fish Head ***

We had ordered this first because the service staff said it will take some time to prepare. It was nice. Fish was fresh and if you like saucy things like this, you would love it. Eat it with all the rice you want!

But we noted that it had lots of tofu. The lady should have told us, so that we would order a different veggie dish. We had tofu overdose.

Fish Head with Tofu in Claypot

If you are wondering where is the fish? It's probably still swimming in the gravy.
We love the thick pieces of sio bak on it.

Guess what? Before dinner, we had some snacks bought from the Isetan supermarket. They had a German fair and we bought some German Grilled Pork. It looks exactly like the Chinese Sio Bak! It taste the same too!

*** Minced Meat with Brinjal ***

Another of the veggie dish. It's a bit small today though.

Mince with Brinjal

*** Stir Fried Pork Liver ***

The whole table loves pork liver except me. I did not try it at all.  ;-)

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

This was dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen. We had wanted to eat the spicy cold chicken at Crystal Jade La Mian, but there was a wait for around 45 minutes. We were too hungry to wait so we decided to have dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen instead.

When we got seated, we saw that there are some Set Meals available in the menu. It looked like a rather good deal, so we took set B. ($45.80++)

Set B consisted of:

***

The Simmered Chinese Spinach with Silver Fish & Golden Mushroom in superior stock.
We all thought it was lovely. The vegetable are young so it was really tender and nice. The stock was rich yet light so you keep wanting to drink the soup!

crystaljade1

***

The Steamed Beancurd with Scallops with Black Bean Sauce.
When it was served, we thought it looked so pretty and appetizing. The Black Bean Sauce was so fragrant. The scallops on top looks a like an extension of the beancurd! I like the Black Bean Sauce!

***

The reason we picked Set B, was because there's a steamed fish. The other sets had either deep fried fish or stewed fish.

This steamed garoupa was good. However, we found one side of the fish to be very tender, but the other was a little tougher flesh. Hmmm one side of it was overcooked?

But we still cleaned it up anyway.

***

Rice was additional, not included in the price of the set. ;-P
We had 3 rice.

Rice

The total price was around $60+ with the pickles, drinks and taxes.
It was a lovely meal nevertheless. We seldom get disappointed eating here.

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

This was dinner two Sunday nights ago. It was sort like a big family gathering with our parents, uncle & aunt and cousins.

If you remember it was a warm night and no one wants to slave in the hot kitchen. We went to Holland Village for dinner instead. It seems that everyone decided to eat out on the hot night too! There were long queues everywhere. It was a 40 minute wait because we needed a table for 11.

The rest went walking around while I queue and waited. It was ok for me because I was playing "We Rule" on the iPhone. Anyone of you playing this game too? :-)
(My ID is "keropokman". Momo's ID is "momo-girl"  if you want to buy stuff from our kingdom.)

We finally got our tables and looking through the menu and we ended up ordering the "Reunion Set Meal". It looked rather attractive!

This was the BBQ Combination. It was lovely. We have always liked their BBQ meats. I like their mustard dip! It gives you this rush in your head as you eat it!

BBQ Combination

The Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Seafood & Bamboo Pith.

Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Seafood & Bamboo Pith

This is interesting. Can you guess what this is?
It's Hokkien Fried Rice.

Hokkien Fried Rice

It's Fried Rice topped with Seafood &  Mushroom Gravy. Some people call it "Mui Fan".
It's kinda nice if you are those who likes gravy stuff.

Hokkien Fried Rice

Braised Sea Cucumber. That was what it said on the menu. But looking at this now, doesn't it look like mushrooms? It's around two weeks ago and I forgot what we ate. hehe...

Braised Sea Cucumber with pork

This was really delicious. Steamed Live Prawns with Vermicelli and Minced Garlic.

I loved it because there were loads of garlic on it! The vermicelli was delicious because it  had soaked up all the sauce. The prawns were easy to eat too (no peeling required). You can't really go wrong with live prawns :-)

Steamed Live Prawn with Vermicelli & Minced Garlic

Simmered Chinese Spinach with 2 types of Eggs in Superior Stock. I think this is now many people's favourite veg + soup dish.

Simmered Chinese Spinach with Two Types of Eggs in Superior Stock

By now we were already quite full! It was probably the starchy sharks fin and the fried rice!
Oh no.... We realized there were 2 more dishes coming and a dessert coming too!

This was the Deep-fried Tilapia with Minced Pork. It was tasty, it had curry leaves so it was fragrant and a bit spicy. What a pity we were too full to really enjoy it.

We realised there are also doing the 2 small fish instead of 1 big fish here too.

Deep-fried Tilapia with Minced Pork

Finally the last dish was served. Crispy Roasted Chicken.
We were just too full to eat the whole chicken. We asked for a takeaway. :-)

Crispy Roasted Chicken

But no matter how full, everyone seem to have some space for the mango pudding!

Mango Pudding

There was great fellowship at the table which made it very enjoyable.

The 10 persons menu is meant for 10 very hungry people. We had 3 or 4 small eaters and we just could not finish the food. :-)

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

This was last Sunday's a little late lunch. It was lunch with our extended family. This place on a Sunday looks like a family gathering place! You can see many family with young kids here as well. They are also spending Sunday afternoon chatting and eating like us!

After we were seated, a lady who was walking around with a bowl of glutinous rice came to our table asking if we want to try what she was holding. We were not really interested, but when she said it's today's special and this is not the usual steamed version of glutinous rice but a fried version and convinced us that it's really good, we succumb to her persuasion. She went back to the kitchen to get a nice hot plate out for us. Hey, it's much more fragrant then the usual stuff and we liked it!

Fried Glutinous Rice

The usual stuff that almost everyone in the restaurant were eating. CJ's Roast pork.
I think I can never refuse roast pork! Crispy skin stuff with salty meat always taste good. :-p

Roast Pork

We had 3 kinds of porridge to share. The porridge all look the same! So just two photos that has a bit of difference. :-)

I can never get the name of this porridge. It's sounds like 'peng zai zhou'? It's one of the porridge that has peanuts on it.

Peng Zai Zhou

The Minced Pork Century Egg Porridge that I like.Warm porridge warms your heart, soul and tummy!

Minced Meat Century Egg Porridge

The following are the multiple plates of the following dishes so that each one can take a piece of everything.

This is the Leong Fun. (BBQ Pork version). Lovely.

Leong Fun

Tofu skin with fish (or was it prawn) paste crispies.

Tofu Skin Crisp

I like this. Steamed Pork Ribs. I think I like this because of the 'juice'. haha... Ya, I know it's full of calories and stuff, but I just like it!

Steamed Pork Ribs

Phoenix Claws, another dish that most of us in the family like.

Phoenix Claws

The last two photos, the usual must haves for Dim Sum. Hargow and Siew Mai.

Har Gow

Siew Mai

Dim Sum or Dian Xin means 'touching the heart'. Always the case when you eat it with your love ones. Don't you think so? :-)

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Isetan Scotts

This was a quick dinner few weeks ago. (I am digging out old photos that I have not posted. haha) Sis, Momo and I were shopping (the girls) / window shopping (me) at Isetan. There was some sale going on and when it was time for dinner, we ate upstairs at Crystal Jade.

We chose CJ because we though it was of the healthier options compared to the other restaurants beside it. We were there before 7 so the crowds were not there yet which means everything was really fast! The food was served quickly, which was good for the hungry people like us. :-)

This is the bittergourd and pork claypot dish. Sis and I are bittergourd fans. Do you believe that we juice raw bittergourd for breakfast almost daily? haha...

We like cooked bittergourd for a change. This dish was nice.

Bitter Gourd and Pork

This is the '3 Cups Chicken'. (San Pei Ji).
I like the sauce of this dish and I ate up my sis' rice so that I can finish this sauce. LOL

3 Cups Chicken

The green dish for the night was the Triple Egg and Veg dish.
Do you realise something? Like Sesame Street, today's post is brought to you by the Number THREE.

3 dishes - 3 Eggs Veg Dish - 3 Cup Chicken Dish - 3 Diners.

Veg with 3 eggs

Nice quick dinner.
Anyone who are bittergourd fans out there? You should do an online search about benefits of bittergourd and you might just want to try it out :-)

Dim Sum @ Crystal Jade Kitchen - Holland Village

We could never bother to wake up so early in the morning to have breakfast. But when your sis and BIL are here, you have to. One thing on the list of things to eat is to have Dim Sum. They want Dim Sum for breakfast.

There are many places that has good dim sum. But we thought we would just go to Crystal Jade Kitchen at Holland Village. Our sis wants to get her hair cut and both sis wants to get their pedicures and manicures done too! (To me, it's a waste of time! My BIL thinks so too)

We met up with uncle, aunt and cousin too. Here's what we had.
The usual order - siew mai.

Siew Mai

Egg tarts...

Egg Tarts

We had three kinds of porridge. They all look the same anyway. :-)
Think this is the Lean Pork Century Egg Porridge.

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Suntec City

What a coincidence, as we went to the IT Show yesterday, Momo and I met Nic and XLB. XLB has gotten herself a nice little present. :-)

After Momo and I walked around, and Nic and XLB bought their 'new toy', we met for dinner. Momo had this craving to eat duck. So she suggested going to Crystal Jade Kitchen where there might be duck.

But, alas, when we ordered, duck's sold out! So, this is what we had.
This was very different. The peanuts had hints of wasabi. I like it!

Peanuts

The 3 types of eggs & vegetable dish. It always so comforting to eat this.

3 kinds Egg Vegetable

The garlic pork ribs. Only for pork lovers because it's yummily fatty and porky.

Garlic Pork Ribs

3 cups chicken. (San Pei Ji) Another of the many dishes that people always eat at this place.

3 Cup Chicken

Two dishes that we ordered ran out. So they came back to us and ask if we wanted to substitute it. We could not really understand what he said. (We are what they call 'eat banana' type) But we knew it was fish. Some claypot fish that was not too bad.

Fish in Claypot

It was nice to meet Nic and XLB.

Approx of an average of $20 per person incl of taxes etc.
