Bye Bye McDonald's King Albert Park!

This is the McDonald's at King Albert Park nearest to our home. Yes, people around this area buy houses / condos / HDB because they are within the 1km radius to get into schools of their choice. Guess what? Within the 1 km of this McDonald's are MGS, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School, Ngee Ann Poly, etc!

It's also the favourite drive thru for takeaways! The wife's friend has a friend who drives through this McDonald's weekly, with photos she can see on the friend's Instagram.

This McDonald's is also where the wife used to have breakfast / lunch / dinner with her classmates! It's closing for good on tomorrow (16 March 2014 at 2359 hours) after 23 years in this location. She says, we have to come here and have the last meal here! She said many of her classmates have already gone to have their last meal there! (ok.. roll eyes....)

 Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

Many people can also be seen taking photos with Ronald and also Hamburglar! There are more inside the other entrance, next to Cold Storage!

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

The crowd here has been pouring in non stop! The McDonald's aunty who works here cleaning the tables says, for the last 3 or 4 weeks, it's been like that! I have to work so so hard, cleaning the tables non stop.

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

Our last meal here, this time the Big Mac and Chicken McSpicy.
I usually have my meal with Ice Milo, but this time, it's just the good old Coke.

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

Bye Bye Big Mac from KAP!
We will visit you again at Beauty World!

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

The fries at KAP has always been very nice. We always suspect it's because the HQ is just upstairs!

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

The wife and her usual McSpicy.

The cleaning Aunty was saying, this is very spicy oh.. I cannot take it, too spicy for me! She's funny lah. She will clean her tables, then come back and talk to us momentarily and go back and work. I guess we are the only people who talked to her!

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

We wanted to sit there a bit longer, but don't want to hog the seats like ahem the NP kids, so we ordered more food. Some how, the McWings seems crispier and juicier inside that night. LOL!

Bye Bye McDonald's KAP

The McNuggets and the Curry Sauce! This stall is where we used to come and buy McNuggets to babysit our cousin when she was younger. Buy a box of 20 and we will all sit and eat them slowly with a variety of sauces!

When they first started their Open Doors Kitchen preview thingy, our family visited the kitchen. That was like years ago! That's when we learn it's possible to order File-O-Fish without salt if you don't want it!

Good bye McDonald's KAP. Maybe when the new condo and shops are completed at the very same site, you might want to come back here!

McDonald's East Coast Park

Probably the McDonald's that most people in Singapore have visited at least once in their lifetime!
It's a place to grab a drink and some air-con after a run, cycling or skating.
A place to seek refuge when you are at East Coast Park and it rains!

It's also the first Drive-Thru, the first Skate-Thru, the first 24 hours outlet in Singapore too!

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

Today's the last day where McDonald's operating here at Marina Cove.

This morning, KopiKosongGirl and I was traveling to Bedok on the ECP to celebrate a friend's kid's 1st birthday. Guess what we did? We detour and thought we would have a last meal here!

I saw a colleague from work too and he said: "having a last meal here too"?

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

It was crowded, very crowded!
It has been a long time since I was here, I am more of the West Coast Park McDonalds person since it opened and my favourite is probably King Albert Park.

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

KKG and I were surprised that there was a board McDonald's fans put message on it!

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

Probably the most interesting 'piece' we saw on the board!

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

Probably the only McDonald's that when it moves, has a farewell party!

McDonald's East Coast Park Singapore

Oh.... If you are up early on a Sunday morning at 8 AM, head to this branch!
There's gonna be a McDonald's "Walk With Us" from the East Coast Park branch to the new East Coast Seafood Centre branch!

First 500 there gets a goodie bag and Ronald McDonald would lead the walk!
There's also special appearance by Birdie, Grimace and Hamburglar too! (Remember them?)

McDonald's Corn Cup instead of Fries

A short post today. After getting married for about 2.5 weeks, you discover more things about your other half more than you ever have in 2.5 years.

The wife loves corn! Fresh corn or even canned corns! She can even tell you which brand is worth buying and which ones are horrible.

Few days day, we were McDonald's. I was the seat 'choper' while she went to get the meals. She came back with her Teppanyaki Chicken McGrill, a drink and a cup of corn. I asked her, if she ordered a la carte? She said no, this is a set meal.

Now that's something new to me. She said, you don't know? McDonald's did not tell you meh? She sniggered.

I did not! One of the reason I go to McDonald's is because of the fries!
Do you know that instead of fries, you can ask a cup of corn? It's interchangeable now.

Corn Cup

The corn comes with butter. The same one that you get when you order pancakes.
Well, it does look very nice, doesn't it?

Corn Cup

I am not really a fan of corn, so I will stick to my fries.
I like my fries dipped in a sundae cone or in curry sauce.

Are you a fries or corn person?

McDonald's almost gourmet dinner @ McDonald's Alocassia

You know how Apple likes to keep the lid on their new product launch. When things are kind of confirmed, they will send out an invite to media and associates to attend an event.

Just last week, McDonald's Singapore did something similar. I got an invite to attend a "McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner". It's the most interesting invite from McDonald's ever!

The location for the launch was not Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in California.
McDonald's had it at one of their newest and classy outlet at Alocassia Apartments along Bukit Timah Road. You go and take a look, the new branches don't look anything like a fast food restaurant anymore!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

They closed the whole restaurant from the afternoon till evening for this event!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Make it Chicken McGrill. Have you all noticed that their menu display signs have changed over the years? It's kind of different in many countries too, but most are becoming very similar.

I have not taken a part time job when I was a teenager working for McDonald's, so I never had a chance to go walk around their kitchen. Last year, when they had an 'Open Door' kitchen tour, I signed up with my sis and cousin. If you are 'kepo' like us, you could do so too.

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

The 'almost gourmet' dinner. The folks at McDonald's did quite a fine job making it look gourmet.
Look! White linen on the table! Food served on crockery! Fresh flowers too!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

For the night, they prepared a special menu.
Chef Irene Jansen was roped in to prepare a 4 course meal using ingredients that is "very McDonald's"!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

The MC for the night was Ms Petrina Kow! If you are about my age, you would be familiar with her voice! How many of you grew up listening to her on radio?

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Ms Shirley Foenander, VP of Marketing, Communications and Menu Management, McDonald's Restaurants Pte. Ltd., Singapore welcoming all of us!

Now for the food we had.

Starter: Fish & Corn Quiche

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Chef Jansen came up with this dish. Baked BBQ flavoured crust-less quiche with fish and corn.
Made from: cubes of filet-o-fish, Corn, Egg and BBQ Sauce.

I did not really taste the BBQ Sauce. Maybe we usually dunk so much of BBQ sauce with our nuggets or fries. It's only a slight hint of BBQ Sauce in it. It was very unique though.

Appetiser: Fresh Salad Greens

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Crisp lettuce, blushing-red tomato slices, Corn niblets and low fat thousand island dressing.

The more I look at this, I am thinking, hey it's a burger without the patty! Served with corns from the kids meal!

I am not a fan of thousand island dressing. I was instead craving for their "Curry Sauce". I would usually have walked to the counter to ask for a pack of curry sauce, but since it is full service today, I asked the restaurant crew. They came back with a nice porcelain saucer filled with curry sauce!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

The beret makes them look very 'French' dont they?
We were told the restaurant crew that night was chosen from the best around Singapore! What they are wearing looks McCafe-ish!

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

The restaurant crew must have gone through an audition to perform live music to all the guests!
They could dance, sing and serve food at the same time!
The lead singer was Chef Jansen herself!

Main Course: Teppanyaki Chicken McGrill

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

This was the star of the night. The new Teppanyaki Chicken McGrill that's to be launched on 1 Mar 2011 Singapore wide!

Bakery style sourdough bread, grilled chicken thigh, whole-leaf lettuce, blushing-red tomato slices and chargrill sauce. Looks good doesn't it? It taste rather nice too. Now that all 3 major fast food joint serve similar chicken burgers, go to all 3 and taste which is your favourite.

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Fries was served on the side that came in a nice Japanese looking cup!

Dessert : Apple Yogurt Trifle

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

I think they should just serve this on their regular menu!
"A tangy refreshing dessert with toasted caramel-cinnamon sourdough croutons", quoting the description on the menu!

Let me see. It's made from:
1) McDonald's Apple Dippers
2) Strawberry yogurt (I don't know which product that serves this, someone said Kid's meal? Is it true parents?)
3) Vanilla soft-serve.
4) Toasted caramel-cinnamon sourdough cruotons, probably their cinnamon melts put into the toaster. Caramel sauce from apple dippers?
5) Strawberry sauce - sundae sauce
6) Cinnamon powder - cinnamon melts.

Alamak, you can tell I frequent Big M quite often eh?

Coffee / Tea:

McDonald's First-ever classy 'gourmet' dinner

Looking at the cup and tea pot, I think it's from McCafe!

Hey folks, if you want to try the burger, go to http://makeitbetter.sg and download a 1-for-1  coupon on your phone. Go to any branch on 1 March 2011 (only 1 day offer) with another friend and show it to the restaurant crew when you order. You can enjoy the burger (a la carte) at half price.

If you are asking like a few others who asked me, this gourmet like food service was only available that night. It resumes to your usual McDonald's restaurant that you are familiar with.

McDonald's @ Budget Terminal, Changi Airport.

I was at the Budget Terminal at an unearthly hour of 5 AM a few days ago. Momo's taking a budget flight Macau on a holiday. Got to thank our friend Gorilla who got us there too.

It's amazing that at 5 am, there's so many people at the Budget Terminal. The check-in counters for other flights out had long queue, except for the flight to Macau. It was empty! Momo checked in so quickly that we had lots of time to 'burn'. So what did we do?

Find a place to sit and drink something. It's amazing that after waking up, your stomach gets hungry even if it's 5 in the morning. So I finally had my first McDonald's meal since the Monopoly Game is launched. I was dreaming that I was the one that's going to get the coveted 'Sentosa Cove' sticker!

Sigh.... Did not get it.

The only reason for Mcdonalds.

My favourite breakfast at maccas is not the big breakfast but McGriddles.

Mcgriddles Sausages and Egg

Probably it's also because it's easier to eat! I like the maple syrup in the "pancake bun".
Also, the sausage in the patty form is very salty. I wonder that's the reason I like it? Or maybe, the M mark on the pancake?

Mcgriddles Sausages and Egg

The value meal comes with Hash Browns that I have never finish ever. I think it's just too oily to put in your mouth.

Hash Brown

I always have ice milo with my McGriddles meal.

Ice Milo

Get it at any of the 112 Maccas near you.
(Maccas is the lazy way how Aussies and possibly NZlanders call McDonalds. )

I read a few days ago that Subway will have more branches than McDonald's by early 2011. Hmm.. Which do you prefer?

Mega McSpicy, Cornetto Chocolate Mcflurry @ Mcdonalds

While everyone's out squeezing themselves in the shopping malls, the people in our household were sleeping till past 12 noon! We sleep quite a lot, our friends know about it. :-)

After waking up late, we thought we would clean up the house. But we ended up watching "Monks Marathon" on TV! (plus eating Curry Puffs we bought for tea) We were very glued to TV that we did not clean up the house. Before we knew it, it was 8 pm!

Wondering what to eat, bro said "let's go try the Mega stuff at McDonalds". He wanted to try it for some time, but never stepped into McDs. So we walked to the nearest McDonalds and had our Mega McSpicies. Bro and I had the double deck spicy chicken burger - the Mega McSpicy. Sis did not fancy it and had the Filet-O-Fish.

The McSpicy was quite big!

Mega McSpicy

We had the set meals that came with packs of fries. Bro is a Carl's Jr fries fan, so he was 'complaining'. But we still ate it. :-p

Fries

I was tempted by the big signs alluring me to try the new Cornetto Chocolate Mcflurry!
Yielded to temptation. sigh..

Cornetto Chocolate Mcflurry

Very very chocolaty. But it melts very quickly.

Cornetto Chocolate Mcflurry

Do you enjoy having 'junk food' like I do?

Mcdonalds @ NUS Engineering Canteen

It has somehow become a routine. When we have lunch at the NUS Engineering canteen, we will end up at Mcdonalds having 'desserts'.

We were tempted to go in by the advertisements. They have spicy Mcnuggets and Onion Rings now. We did not really like it. These nuggets are a tad dry.

Onion rings. Hmm.. the photo show many more rings. How come we have only so few? The photos they used for their adverts we always wonder if it's true.

(But you can be sure that this blog does not clear off the table, no special lighting etc, seen as it is.. so you can trust this blog right? haha..)

The two disappointments were redeemed by the Green Tea McFlurry.
We actually liked it. LOL...

I think it's the best McFlurry so far.

Yes, all of us had one each. (One couple shared one because someone 'die die' must have coffee)

Pretty childish don't you think? The McFlurry pyramid above. LOL
A fellow food blogger told me, don't you post this up.

McCafe @ Great World City

After the Nasi Padang lunch yesterday, we j-walked Zion Road (haha...) to cross over to Great World City. We wanted to look for a place for some drinks.

We wanted to go to TCC, but found that it to be under renovation. Next choice was Coffee Bean. It was full and it was mostly 1 person tables. We had 4 people, so we can't share tables anyway. Spinelli was also crowded, so we settled for McCafe.

We made the right choice!

A colleague had a hot chocolate. Yes, it comes with marshmallows too :-)

We also had two slices of cake to share. This chocolate cake is quite nice. Chocolatey, moist and warm. (it was heated for us :-) )

There was also Oreo Cheesecake (with a cute mini oreo above).

The other 3 of us, we had 3 cold drinks. Don't the drinks look so colourful and tempting?
Mango, Vanilla and Chocolate. Hey, if you do a blind test, you might think it's from the "more expensive brands" mentioned earlier.

I mentioned it was a right choice right? You know why? McCafe has such good service!

Halfway through our drinks and cakes, (shall I call her a McCafe Barista,) walked over to us with 4 cups of water. She said, you have ordered some cakes, and your drinks are sweet too. These few cups of water might be what you need.

Wow!!! We were so so impressed! Well done McDonalds!

Not sure if other tables got served, we were served and they just got themselves 4 more repeat customers! Makes us wonder if the other branches of McCafe has staff that is so passionate about their work and customers.

Stylo Mylo McDonalds Cone

I did not take any photos of what I ate today, except for supper. Friends drove to 24 hour McDonalds. 2 ate the big cup one, for me, I took the cone.

I took cone because I don't eat the cone and don't feel like having sauce toppings. Also the Sundae come in plastic which is not environmentally friendly. The cone, I know I don't eat it, but it is bio-degradable right?

Well, today the cone that was serve quite stylo right?
Like Elvis hairstyle like that...

After I lick a few mouth, it became like this. Not bad also right? Like wearing a buret now.
haha....

OK. I think I need sleep. I not very OK up there liao...
