Gastromania Feast @ Far East Square Stop 1:
Zhou's Kitchen
Many of you I am sure are no stranger to Zhou's Kitchen. It's Tung Lok Group's casual chinese dining outlets.
I have visited their branch at Anchorpoint, Square 2 and Jurong Point. This was my first visit to their Far East Square branch. I just found out that this branch has been around since December 2007! With this visit, it seems I have visited all their branches in Singapore.
For the gastromania feast, we will try a dish or two from each restaurant. For this stop at Zhou's Kitchen, we are trying one of their signature dish - Zhou's Kitchen Braised Pork Shank (周庄元蹄) $24.
I have tried this dish a few times, but have not blogged about it. (Getting lazy over the years!)
I thought the Pork Shank here looked bigger than the ones I had in other branches. Maybe I should visit the other branches again.
Note: The dish is definitely not for everyone.
Order this only if you love some fats in your meat and you love soft and gelatinous texture of pork skin. It's what this dish is about. Bone-in to me also means flavour in!
The braised meat was certainly flavourful. I am glad it was not too soft, so there's some texture in the meat. It might also mean the animal we ate was not a lazy one, but have exercised that's why the meat has texture.
The pickled radish pieces were a little spicy and it complimented the meat. (and the skin and fats if you eat them. yumz!)
We were served two kinds of man tou to eat with the Pork Shanks.
These steamed ones are for the health conscious.
For those who love crispy skin on their man tous, go ahead, have the fried ones.
Don't worry if you think it's scary to be served a chunk of meat. There's always someone to help portion it out. I guess they picked a guy's who is more photogenic and skillful to portion the meat for us! I remember it's usually 'aunties' who do it for us at the Anchorpoint branch where we usually visit.
If you are eating with your family, go ahead, pick up the femur bone and lick it!

Zhou's Kitchen @ Square 2
This was Sunday lunch at Zhou's Kitchen, Square 2. Aunt had some rebate vouchers from dining here previously and thought we would use it today. But we did not read the fine prints on the voucher. Vouchers can only be used on weekdays! haha..
So we paid without using the vouchers. Guess what, after paying for the meal, we had even more vouchers from them. Is that how they are making people come back for more?
We thought of having the a la carte buffet, but it's not served till 2.45 pm, so we just order off the usual menu.
It is everyone in the family's favourite. Sliced Pork with garlic sauce.
Do we seem to be eating this everywhere we go?
The Crispy Silver Fish with Salted Pepper. It is nice and crispy and I love it with their chilli (with tow cheo) that's on every table. ;-)
This is nice. Pan-fried Beef Tenderloin with Black Pepper. It is very tender and it's one of those things that when you tasted it, you want more.
This is Braised Spinach Beancurd with Mushrooms and Vegetables.
(As usual, I like the vegetables more than the beancurd. hehe)
Stewed Eggplant with Minced Pork and Salted Fish. Another of our favourite. Ya, we know salted fish is carcinogenic, but it taste good. So how? Don't order it as often lah, and eat broccoli for few days after eating this. :-p
Can't remember the name of this dish, but all we remember is this chicken soup is very very nice. It has lots of lotus seeds and some gel like substance (that we always forget to ask what it is).
It comes in a huge serving bowl before it was scooped into the little bowls. Inside the pot was this spring chicken. It's a naked, skinless chicken! haha..
Oops, the next dish turned out to be a soupy dish as well!
So there's chicken soup and now we have fish soup. haha
It's fish slices with loofa and black fungus. Aunt said it's a good idea and we would have this at home next time. It's quite a nice soup!
We were stuffed, but to end it with a sweet note, we had a tiny dessert. Mango Soft Rolls. Four tiny bits shared by 5 persons. hehe
Remember to read the fine prints if you are using vouchers. :-)
Have a great week! I am on leave these few days (clearing my leave) and using it to rest (i.e. sleep!)

Zhou's Kitchen @ Anchorpoint
Last month, I posted a similar 'pig out' at Zhou's Kitchen. That was for cousin's birthday. This time it's aunt's birthday and she wants to go back there.
This time however we are trying from another branch of Zhou's Kitchen, the Anchorpoint branch.
Here's an aerial view of the delicious food we had. The 10 of us ate so much. We were being filled, filled till we want no more!
Shall not make this too long. There are just too many photos when you eat a buffet. Just posting some photos of the food that we particularly liked.
The keropok of course! With the sweet chilli sauce.
The century egg pickled dish. We sure had many portions of this.
This was another favourite, we like the garlicy taste of it. The sauce and the pork slices just is so appetizing.
The Ngor Hiong and the sweet chilli sauce.
The Char Siu Pow is nice. So is this Char Siu Sou.
These mini egg tarts are a real hit! The little ones sure like it a lot!
I like French Beans, so of course I'll say it's nice.
I am not a fan of this, but many people on the table liked it. Ku Chai Pastry. I think Ku Chai is a very acquired taste!
Many liked the cold meats too. This is the sliced cold beef. The drunken chicken was not too bad too.
If you have more than 6 eating, you get this crab.
For dessert, this was once hot favourite. Peanut Tang Yuan.
We also loved the mango and guiling gao dessert.
There seems to be many buffets going around. Eat in moderation!
Happy Birthday Aunt!

Zhou's Kitchen @ Square 2 (Part II)
Part II of the High tea buffet.
When you sit down, you get this basket of delicious keropok!
Keropokman LOVES these keropok! They go so so well with the thai style chilli sauce. yum! ;-)
The drunken chicken.
It was nice, but if it was colder it would be even nicer.
Beef slices. Can't really remember the name of this dish.
Steam Pork Ribs.
Phoenix Claws.
I realise without my colleagues who are mad about these eating with me, it's not as enjoyable eating the claws. haha...
The kids on the table loves this. Fried Fish Skin.
This sliced pork with garlic is very delicious. I think I ate quite a lot of this!
It goes well with porridge too!
This is pork slices with jelly fish.
Dough Fritteres with Mayo.
Century Egg porridge with lean pork.
If you want more century egg, you can order this.
BBQ Pork Bun. I kinda like this because I ate a few of it! LOL...
Deep fried chicken that looks small and dry. But somehow it was quite appetizing and I ate quite a bit of it.
Nice place to pig out without costing too much.
You got to make a reservation. The place is very very packed with people.

Zhou's Kitchen @ Square 2
We were invited to our cousin's birthday tea at Zhou's Kitchen during the past weekend. Happy Birthday E!
Uncle and Aunt booked the tea buffet at Square 2.
Look at the price for the buffet. It's quite reasonable right?
The food's not too bad too. It's a Tung Lok Group restaurant, so it's usually quite good. ;-)
I realise we ate quite a bit! There was like a big group of us, so we nearly ordered everything.
If you are interested in it, you can continue to scroll down.
Here's Part I of the food we ate:
Char Siu Pastry. These are good stuff.
Siu Mai.
Celery and Prawns. I picked more veg than the prawns. hehe...
The Meat Roll.
I love french beans and this is a bit spicy, so it's very appetizing.
For carbo load fix, here's the Lotus Leaf Rice.
It's like a rice sandwich inside. The meat sandwich between two layers of rice.
Har Gow.
If you have 6 persons or more having the buffet, you get the Crab Glutinous Rice.
The Egg tarts here are delicious!
The fried rice here is also very fragrant. I like it.
Sweet and Sour soup.
(psst, don't bother).
Part II to continue tomorrow.
