Tasting the Miracle Fruit @ Our office

Not sure if anyone here has tasted the Miracle Fruit. I first read about it around one year ago, and I told a few colleagues. Then today, a colleague brought some to work for me.

He brought it back all the way from Kuching. He found out one of his aunt planted it. So he visited his aunt and asked for some for me! What a nice colleague he is! These fruits are a few days old (that's why it is a bit shriveled) because I was on leave and did not come in to office! I was told they don't keep well, and it's best eaten fresh to get the best effect.

To know more about it, read this wiki of the Miracle Fruit. In short, after eating the miracle fruit, anything  sour will taste sweet! So we decided test if it's true.

My colleague had brought back two bags of lime for me. (He always bring back these lime from his own garden. Thanks!) So it's perfect for the experiment.

Another colleague and I cut a lime and tasted it first. Yes, it was SOUR!
We then bite the miracle fruit and made sure we coat our whole tongue and mouth with the fruit. The fruit is so so small, it's the size of a raisin.

Miracle Fruit

We tasted the lime again. Hey, it does make a difference!

If you read the wiki and experiences of other people, you get the impression it is very sweet. For both of us who tried it, we think it's more like an orange that's not sweet enough rather than a very sweet sunkist orange. :-)

The taste of the miracle fruit? It's not very tasty. haha.. More like eating the inside of a rambutan. haha..
But after eating the lime, and drinking water, we can feel the sweet after taste. The sweetness is more like artificial sweeteners like 'Equal'. ;-)

Lime

It was a nice experience though. If possible, we would want to try the fruit fresh from the tree. I wonder if it's any different. ;-)

Oh, I read that in hotels or restaurants that serves molecular gastronomy, it might cost up to $40 per fruit!  If you want to find them in Singapore, try Lim Chu Kang Drive. The govt has planted a few trees there! hehe.. That is if you can get the fruits others have 'stolen' it.

Rong Guang BBQ Seafood @ Ulu Pandan Road

It's been a long long time since we had dinner at Rong Guang. I know many of you say the branch at Alexandra village is better, but this place is nearer to our home and we have a nickname for this place. We call it 'chao long gao'. (smelly drain in Hokkien). It's like let's go have dinner at Chao Long Gao. haha...

To set the record straight, this place is not smelly at all, we call it chao long gao because it's beside a big long gao. (ie the huge monsoon drain / Ulu Pandan River)   I am sure you do too. :-)

These photos are taken under moon light with no flash and partial lights from the street lamps, so pardon the 'dark' photos. :-)

The dish for people with no teeth. Boh geh jiak tao geh. The bean sprouts and salted fish dish. We had the big portion because uncle likes tau geh! (no he is not boh geh hehe)

Bean Sprouts

We also had the sweet and sour pork. I think this was ordered for me, because I like it. :-)

Sweet and Sour Pork

This dish is dedicated to blur blur people of the world. Sotongs for the sotongs.
Sambal Sotong. Always delicious! This is sis's favourite.
(I have to say she's not blur, just in case she reads this. hehe...)

Sambal Sotong

Our cousin's favourite dish. She loves the Sambal Stingray here. We ordered the half spicy and half non spicy version. It seems that they now put the sambal in a bowl if you want it "half-half".

BBQ Sting Ray

Aunt's favourite dish. She likes cereal prawns.

Do you all have the habit of munching on the crispy cereal? Ya, it's not a very healthy habit. :-p

Cereal prawns

Now this is dedicated to the 'fools of this earth'. Fang Tong! That's me.
"Must eat rice one", especially if you eat the above dishes.

Peng Tang - Rice containers like me need to eat rice!

Always a hearty meal here. Prices that are not too expensive too. I think it was $71 for all of the above plus drinks for 5 persons and the usual taxes etc.

Cedele @ Novena Square

We walked around after lunch at Zhou's Kitchen. Walking does burn away calories and make you tired and thirsty! Before we know it, we got a text message from aunt telling us if anyone's interested for a tea break, she's at Cedele, taking a break.

We were happy to receive the text and quickly appeared at Cedele to join her and uncle.
Aunt felt like eating something, so we got the tea set that consists of a drink and a scone.

Aunt had the cranberry scone. We all pinched a little bit and yes, it's nice!

Cranberry Scones

Coffee.. (for the caffeine addict hehe)
Aunt needs a coffee in the afternoon!

Coffee!

I had something sweet and sour!
Sweet Honey with Sour Calamansi. Very refreshing.

Sour and sweet Calamansi, so refreshing!

Cheers! A green tea something with chocolate something.
Momo says she loves the chocolate drink here.

Yey to cold drinks!

While chatting, we realised we all call this place by differently.
Momo says her colleagues calls it "Sir Dell", and confidently said her other colleagues asked their ang moh colleagues, it should be like that.

I think it was aunt who said "See Dell".

I always call it "See Dell Lay".

How? So who is right? I decided to ask the people working there how to pronounce Cedele. I walked up to the counter and ask! It turns out I was the closest!

Oh, it's pronounced "See Dell Lee" said the chirpy service staff.

And now you know too. So, how have you been calling it?
