Last Thursday, around 15 colleagues and I who were involved in a recently completed project at work went for an 'appreciation' lunch. The colleague who organised on behalf of project committee said, we can't go for a very expensive lunch, Orchard Cafe reasonable enough for the budget given. We did not mind at all. It was a 'free lunch' after all.
Is it because of our age, we don't seem to be trying to eat everything on the buffet anymore. We only picked selected items that was worth the calories!
Most of us just ate prawns, sashimi and alaskan abalone!
We later discovered these gorgeous Manila Clams! We started piling them.
There was also cold crabs. They were sweet and salty! The meat was sweet but it tasted salty because it was just boiled in salt water?
Amongst other things we ate, the Char Kuey Teow was surprisingly very nice!
I think it runs out very fast and it was being topped up rather quickly.
There were lots of other stations like laksa, prawn noodles etc. I did not try them.
I had a laksa but think it was not nice though.
One thing that I enjoyed from all the different dishes was the braised sea cucumber! I don't usually eat it, but I took a few helpings of it here. ;-P
I did notice they have a few kinds of keropok! 4 kinds! LOL
Durian is something that I don't eat. But almost everyone went to grab bowls of it! The queue was also very long! What is it with this Durian Pengat that is making them queue up for it?
I decided I should try it too! I queued up just to grab 1 teaspoon of it! Yes, just one teaspoon.
It was quite tasty! The totally pungent and repulsive smell turned into something quite yummy on my tongue. ( I am shocked that I ate it!)
So what do you do when your mouth stinks after eating durian? Get rid of the aftertaste by eating lots of cakes, desserts and fruits! The selection were pretty good! This was one colleague's first helping of cakes. I had lots of ice cream to get rid of the taste of durian.
I am not sure how much it costs. We just ate, and went back to work feeling so sleepy!

Wowzers! So much seafood! It all looks so good -especially the char kuey teow.
You were very brave to try durian (even if it was a teaspoon of it). I can only eat it when I'm in the mood. I love eating durian with sticky rice. Do you think you'd have durian again in the future?
You ought to organise a keropok buffet one day with all sorts of keropok from all over Malaysia and its krispy cousins from around the world like nachos, crisps and what not... :)
Hi, how much is the buffet? looks delicious!
