One of our friend, 'gorilla' has been telling us (for the longest time) that he recently found out that his old school has turned into a restaurant. He wants to visit his old school and at the same time eat there. So a few days ago, he drove us there.
His school was then known as Upper Aljunied Technical School. The school does not exist anymore but the buildings are still there. The Singapore Land Authority has since rented out the premises for other purposes. Part of it is now a restaurant. The other school buildings are now hostels and other shops.
When we (3 of us) were waiting for the food, he was telling us 'what was here', 'what was there'.... This guy was missing his time in school! :-) Before you know it, the food's arrived and we happily tucked in.
When we sat down, a lady came to take our orders. We asked her to 'kai siao' (recommend) what to eat. She said their crabs were nice, but we were not in the mood for crabs. So she said we should try their Mee Goreng. She was right... It was delicious and quite good.
We had a veg as well. Fried Kailan. Not too bad. Could tell the chef was a little too generous on the chinese cooking wine, but it was good.
The gorilla wanted to eat 'lu rou'. So ordered a stir fried venison. The venison's nice especially the sauce.
We had wanted watercress soup but after a while, they came to say they don't have it today. So we replaced it with Tofu and Seafood Soup. Compared to the most flavourful dishes above, the soup's a bit bland. That was good though. To neutralize our mouth a bit. haha...
The other signature dish the lady told us was their Prawn Pancake and Ngo Hiang.
It came on a huge plate! It was not too bad.
This place has quite good food. I just did an online search and realise they have many branches in Singapore, even their own website! :-)
