Poh Cheu @ Alexandra Village

Sis, Momo and I had lunch at Alexandra Village and after lunch on a Saturday, we saw this long queue. Sis asked what's the queue about, I told her it's the famous Ang Ku Kway stall.

Sis thought of aunt who loves these kueh kueh stuff. We thought, we shall be nice nephew and niece and buy them some afternoon snack on the way home.

Yes, the queue's long.......
But it clears very fast. It's just point point and pack pack, so you don't really wait that long.

Momo had this pack of Koo Chai Kueh for her parents.

Sis and I were a bit 'mad'. We ordered one of each thing that they sell.
Our cousin loves sticky rice, so this is for her. Cousin loved it very much.

Aunt loves the "serng pua chee", the Yam Cakes shaped like Abacus, so this is for her too.

This box had the assortment of kueh kueh. The pink rice cake. Below it is the Yam Cake, Koo Chai Kueh, Soon Kueh, etc...

And their assortment of "ang ku kueh". They have all kinds of flavours, durian included! (the yellow one).

Other flavours includes Mango, Peanut, Green Bean, Yam, Salted Bean, Coconut, Red Bean, Coffee & Green Tea)

Bosses @ VivoCity

It was our brother's birthday about a week ago, and we asked him what he would like to have. He said 'gangster'. Huh? What gangster?

He said he saw a restaurant called "Hei Se Hui" (Underworld triad). Aha the restaurant's actually called "Bosses".

So, Momo and I invited our bro out for his gangster dinner. Sis could not make it as she had something on.

It's actually a pretty nice restaurant with black all around.

Instead of the usual peanuts, they have this spring roll thingy with carrots and cucumber sticks. Pretty huh.

We started with a soup that was recommended to us. It was pork rib soup I think carrots and papaya? But the soup was good, we really liked it. It's not that salty too, light and yet rich in flavour.

The next dish that came out was nai bai with salted fish. Yes, with salted fish, of course the dish is salty.

We also had Crispy Aromatic Duck and a steamed spicy garoupa (which is on special, so every single table ordered one!)

I got this urge about Crispy Aromatic Duck after having it in London. So when I saw it on the menu, we ordered it. Crispy aromatic duck's a duck that is deep fried and then shredded after being served to the table for you to view it. Bro's been back from London for almost a year after spending so many years there, so he would taste it and let us know if it's good too.

When we said could we take a photo of it before being they shred it, we were told, no photography please. (ya right, you can see so many photos of food from this place on the web) We asked why, he said people would steal their ideas. We were thinking, hmm they better come out with a better excuse, anyway, we decided not to take any photos and enjoy our food ;-) Hey, remember the place's called Hei Se Hui, you better comply. LOL....

The duck's nice but it does not come with lettuce or pancake skin that you can wrap that you find in London. It was crispy and not too dry and we called sis who can't make it to come join us. haha... We told her, duck not bad, come come. She came!

So ordered their desserts which was quite nice too. The durian puffs, mango puree with sago, and tang yuan. (We are so traditional ya, ordering tang yuan because it was a birthday celebration. LOL)

Riders Cafe @ Bukit Timah Saddle Club

Lunch today was a farewell lunch in a very unusual place. A place where it's so peaceful and laid back, you can't imagine that such places still exist in Singapore.

It was at the Bukit Timah Saddle Club, where you can smell the horses and have your lunch. Oh ya, the name of the place is Riders Cafe.

R's going away after being in part of "Acad" side of the organisation for a very long time. Many people will miss him. Anyway, he had the Crab Au Gratin, which we were told is one of the favourite in this place. It's quite well done.

Our treater (we will call her "Wooni") for today's lunch had the fish (Halibut). It was not too bad too and looks really pretty too ya?

I had the "Riders Burger". Served as an opened up burger, I had it medium rare and with chips at the side. It was quite good, except the chip's a bit overdone.

We shared two desserts. This is a huge chocolate dessert that I think was called "Death by Chocolate". A huge slice of chocolates cake with choc sauce and a huge scoop of Vanilla ice cream. (You can see the little vanilla pods in the ice cream too)

It was huge and satisfying.

Wooni said that she comes here for the desserts usually and just orders everything and shared with all. She said we got to try their Crème Brûlée. It's one of the better ones you can get in Singapore.

It was a good lunch, catching up with someone before they leave. Ah.. you will feel sad.

Prince Taiwan Porridge @ Cheong Chin Nam Road

This was our family dinner on Sunday night. The nights are cool these days and it's nice to have porridge. I think there are many people who seems to be craving porridge these days too. (You know who you are. )

We went to Prince Taiwan Porridge. There's two porridge places along this road.

We noticed something though. People seem to shift their liking. Some weeks you see everyone goes to the Hokkien place, and the Cantonese one is quiet. On other weeks, the Cantonese ones are packed and only a few people at the Hokkien place. We wonder why?

But as a Hokkien, we always seem to like this Hokkien porridge more. Cantonese porridge has dishes that are too 'cold' for us. :-p

As usual, we always order the same old stuff. Dont know why, but we just expect the person ordering to order it. LOL

Chicken in wine sauce on a mini wok.

The kangkong with garlic.

The Mei Cai Kou Rou.

This was something new on the menu I think. These crispy fish are yummy. The next time we come here, we might order it again.

The without fail dish, Chai Por Nerng.

I love the sze chuan veg and thinly sliced pork.

The minced pork with aubergine.

We all ate the dishes with sweet potato porridge. The porridge warms our heart.
Oh, there's free flow of rice and porridge if you are a 'rice bin'.

Food's not super spectacular, but it's just comfort food nearby for us.

Tian Tian Yuan Dessert House @ Tiong Bahru Market

I was told by one of the stall owners here that this stall has the best dessert, so I just trust them and buy it from this stall. :-) Everytime I am here, I will try stuff from here. Maybe the queue tells you that they are popular too.

Don't be afraid of the queue, it gets to your turn rather quickly. Be afraid of what to order. There's too many things and only 1 stomach to fill.

On a hot day, any cold dessert is refreshing!
This is Jelly and Longan. The 'tadpoles rubies' makes them more eye catching.

This is the "cheng terng". The ice covers everything. Just dig in...

This might look like the most 'wrong' chendol. But it looks and taste good too.

The chendol I like is the pale green chendol with coconut milk and gula melaka only.
But this creation is also OK sometimes.

There are other desserts with fanciful names too. Eg "Shi Da Tian Wang" (Four Heavenly Kings), etc... I tried them before. Surprise... LOL

Tow Kwar Pop @ Tiong Bahru Food Centre

We were having itchy mouth. Just wanting to try a bit of this and a bit of that.
Aunt was walking around and came back with a plate of Tow Kwar Pok. (but the signboard says pop, hmm to make it more hip?)

The Tow Kwar was below, the top was all the crunchy stuff that was so tasty. Fried food always taste good ya?

C Kannan Drink Stall @ Beauty World Centre

I was just enjoying the guy doing the 'tarik' of all the cups of teh tarik that he was preparing, so I ordered one too.

I happen to be sitting at the table in front of his stall, and I get to see him in action. There are quite a few teh tarik stalls around that only 'stir' the tea instead of 'pulling' it in the air. Well, this guy seems to do it very well.

Hong Wen Mutton Soup @ Beauty World Centre

Mutton Soup anyone? We were having lunch at the 'rooftop' of Beauty World Centre. I ordered a Satay Beehoon, but it was not as good as the one at the Bkt Timah Food Centre, uncle had his noodle soup.

We were seated just a few steps from this stall, and uncle 'cannot tahan' liao. He had to have soup mutton soup. The smell has been 'courting' his nose for the last half an hour. LOL.

So he obeyed his nose and ordered this bowl of mutton soup.

He was happily chewing his 'tulang'.

Carls Jr @ Suntec City

Just the other day, I had 'dinner' with my bro at Carl's Junior. Sis and I have always wonder why he got to have his dose Carl's Jr weekly!

I called it inverted 'dinner' because I had a super huge lunch and could not really force more food into myself. So I had a milkshake. Well, the milkshake's really nice. With a scoop of ice cream in it too. So malty. Lovely.

I must have been a 'sua-ku'. (translated mountain tortoise aka do not know what's happening around you). The fries in Carl's Jr is now real potatoes.

You can see the skin of the potato too. Not the reconstructed stuff from 'you know where'. :-)

It goes really well with the sauce and salsa too.

This was bro's dinner. His mushroom burger.
Looking at it now, when I am hungry, it does looks good. LOL...

Menya Shinchan @ Robertson Quay

Right after eating pizza, pasta and a big plate of salad, Camemberu, Southernoise and I went on to have ramen. This was to be the 'pig-out' thingy. Eaten from shop to shop. But we realise we do not have the big appetite as we think we had. LOL...

We walked round the corner to Menya Shinchan. This little Japanase eatery is known for its 'home-made' noodles. This shop is kinda hidden, so you might take some time to find it. Look for this sign.

The moment you are seated, they serve you a nice warm towel. How nice ya!

If you read about them at this site, you can see that they really take ramen making very seriously and considers it an art.

This is what I had. The Miso Pork Mayu.

Whilst many other ramen has very salty broth, this one is different though. It's not salty at all. (Hmm we wonder if salt's missing on purpose or accidently, we shall try again next time to see if it's meant to be like that. ) It has a rich broth though.

The hand made noodles.

Camemberu had the Salty Pork Mayu. It looks almost similar to the one I have, except that when you stir it, it's not so dark.

Southernoise had the Salty Pork with the 'extra oil' option. When asked what's the oil, we were told lard oil. You should have seen the glee on Southernoise's face when he said yes!

The 'pig-out' ended here. LOL. Stomach's not flexible, young and elastic as before for me.

Da Mario Pizzeria @ Robertson Quay

Camemberu, Southernoise and I finally went for our mini pig out session on Saturday. This was planned a few months ago, but we were always not free or around on Saturdays.

Last Saturday, we all made an effort to clear all appointments and met up for our 'makan' session. This place's chosen because of a recommendation by NinjaHK. This place is think is also one regular reader of this blog, 'ice' had an 'interesting' discussion before. ;-)

A very simple looking shop named after the owner/chef.

The deep fried calamari was the first to come out. $14. It's coated and deep fried with a batter that's a little different, more crispy. It goes well with the tartare sauce and lemon.

It did reminded me of the spanish calamari I had last month in Spain. It's a tad of extra saltiness that makes it nice I suppose ;-)

The Italian Antipasto. $30.
We ordered this to try the Parma Ham Melon ;-) It comes with olives, caprese salad & grilled vegetables.

It's delicious I tell you.

For the pizza, we asked the waiter for their recommendation. We were told this Rustica Pizza $18 is a popular choice. It's made of tomato, cheese, Italian pork sausages and button mushroom.

This piece is going into my mouth.

Asked about their pasta, their recommendation for pasta is Spaghetti al Cartoccio. $22
It's spaghetti with saute squids, scallops, prawns, clams and mussels in light tomato sauce, garlic and white wine. It's bagged by the way. I like this.

This is the tiramisu that Chef Mario gave as complimentary because of an 'incident'.
Read about it at Camemberu's blog.

Might come back to try other things. We only ate 4 things out of the menu. ;-)

Beijing Steamboat @ Great Wall Restaurant, NUS Swimming Pool

A colleague asked if I wanted to join them for dinner. I said OK because I was already hungry at around 5 plus. We were going to have a mini steamboat. Where? At the NUS Swimming Pool. Hmm pool water for the steamboat? LOL....

It's the first time I found out that there's a restaurant there and it's called Great Wall.

The Beijing Steamboat's only available from 6 - 9 pm. It costs $6 and it has quite a big portion too. You have a choice of Mutton, Beef, Pork or Chicken.

One colleague had the beef version.

The other 3 of us had the chicken.

Come with a bowl of rice.

And a steamboat with flames that is so big and it lasts so long, that you do not need to rush to finish your meal so quickly worrying that the flames might die out first.

An aerial view to show you the approximate size.

Not the best steamboat you can get, but for $6, it is quite ok lah.

The Scholar @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House

Xiu4 Cai2 - The Scholar. What an appropriate name for a Chinese Restaurant that opens in the grounds of the National University of Singapore.

On Tuesday, it was one of our colleague's first day back to work after 4 months being away. The whole team with our boss, the 13 of us, welcomed her back with a treat to The Scholar, a modern and chic Chinese restaurant in the new Guild House in the NUS Kent Ridge Campus.

It's very Chinese, yet contemporary. We realise that it's quite full too. We did not place any booking thinking it's so new, it wont be crowded. We were wrong. Lucky for us, one of the VIP rooms was not booked and there was a table inside that can fit the 13 of us.

The lady-in-charge told us, we should try this set. It has all the 'jiao pai' (signature) dishes. By the way, their executive chef is award winning James Aw. She said we can order this and do a + 3. ie, pay an additional $38.80 for the 3 extra persons. The menu looks good ya?

Oh yes, there's a Smart Casual policy here. Haha.. to prevent students and Profs from walking in with their t-shirts, shorts and slippers. (Yes, I mention Profs LOL)

The Crispy Duck Mango & Plum Sauce.
It's delicious. The slight sourness of the mango goes kinda well with the duck.

The Braised Shark's Fin with Bamboo Pith and Crabmeat was served in a nice big bowl.

Oh, we had 'full service' so they served us. Hmm we even had a dedicated server in the room. I think the must love working in this place. She is full of praises for the chefs here.

Oh yes, we had a anti-shark activist amongst us. He showed his disapproving look while the rest of us enjoyed the sharks fin. hehe....

The Famous Crispy Coffee Pork Ribs.
Oh, when this dish was brought in, we could smell the aroma of the coffee.

The Steamed Sea Bass Teochew Style.
Fish was fresh and was walloped off by the 4-5 fish lovers. Nothing was spared.

The Pan Fried Spicy Prawns.
Somehow these prawns taste really good. The spicy and salty combination works very well.
It was also slit on the top to make it easier for us to eat.

The Braised Bailing Mushroom & Sea Cucumber with Seasonal Vegetables.

Our boss was chatting with the server and found out that they have 20 over chefs and kitchen helpers. They need so many people because it is really busy during lunch and dinner.

Since I took this photo of my half eaten sea cucumber, just show it here lah... :-)

This is the Braised Dual-Rice Noodles with Shredded Duck Meat.
Looks plain and simple? But it's delicious! We realise that many places are now having this dual-rice noodles combi. Bee Hoon and Tang Hoon does go together!

This closeup lets you distinguish between the two different kinds of noodles.

The dessert: Pumpkin and Coconut Cream.
I think pumpkin prepared this way is delicious!

It was such an enjoyable meal.
If you are wondering why the photos looks longish, it's in the HD mode on the camera. I brought out my camera without a memory card! Don't laugh! So this mode actually uses less disk space, so... :-)

It's a NUSS members only place. Ask a friend who is a NUSS member to bring you there or grab a friend who works in NUS to bring you in.

Crystal Jade Kitchen @ Holland Village

Today just before lunch, a colleague happily hop into our office and said, today's lunch is on me. Let's go to Holland Village.

Wah... what happened? He told us, he passed his most difficult exam ever. He passed the ITIL exams. He said he was already planning to retake because the passing rate is very low and he did not think he could make it. Since he passed the exam, the $ he allocated for the super expensive exam fee, a portion of it can be used to treat us. Of course we gladly accepted his invite.

It was a super cold and rainy day, so wondering where to eat, we decided we would like hot chinese food. We ended up at Crystal Jade Kitchen. We all ordered porridge. 5 different kinds of them. It was a cold day and the warm porridge was what was needed to warm us up!

This is my duck and chicken porridge. (The meat's all hidden below the porridge haha...)

This is the century egg and lean pork porridge.
(Ya, all the porridge looks similar right? The gems are all hidden inside)

This is the something river porridge. It has peanuts over it.

The pig inards porridge. This photo colleague stirred it so you can see the liver.

The other bowl of porridge was too far away, so you visit them and try it out lah.
I even forgot what porridge it was. :-p

We had the 3 eggs with veg dish to share too. We love this dish.

Plus 5-6 kinds of dim sum as well. The siew mai, har gow, bean curd skin fish cake, chee cheong fun, steamed pork ribs, etc...

You could guess it, we ordered 3 steamers of chicken feet. yeah...

Thanks for the lunch, Wire.

Now that our colleague is ITIL certified, the rest of us have to be inducted into ITIL practices too. The next week, we will all be attending ITIL brain washing courses.

Long Beach Seafood @ IMM

Earlier tonite, our Care Group from church met up to celebrate sis' belated birthday. Wondering where to eat, we (4 of us only, others have to work overtime, reservist, etc) finally decided to eat at Long Beach because our CG leader wanted chilli crabs.

When we sat down on the tables, we thought these wet napkins look kinda sleezy. LOL...

Anyway, we ordered and the food came in the sequence which these photos are displayed.
The garlic kailan dish, which we think is the nicest dish of all. :-p

The beef with dried chilli. Not too bad, maybe we should have called the bigger portion. Not enough.

Patin fish Penang Style.
Oh, this is delicious. I love fish especially in this nyonya style, which makes you wanna call for more bowls of rice.

Aha. The chilli crabs.
Hmm.. We now realise why the wet napkins says they are the best in Black Pepper crabs. We should have ordered that.

This chilli crab is for the 'cannot eat chilli' people. It's mild and tomato-ish. I think kids (who can't take chilli) would love them. But it does look really pretty on the plate. Very nicely stacked up.

The fried buns. Oh well, it could still go with the tomato-egg sauce.
We were still yearning for something fiery and spicy.

Bobby's @ Cuppage Terrace

I went for a food tasting session at Bobby's yesterday. Met fellow foodies, Camemberu and Southernoise was there as well, it has been some time since I met them.

Where Bobby's? It's at the newly revamped Cuppage Terrace. Cuppage Terrace looks really different now. With the Orchard Road revamp, many place along Orchard Road's updating itself too.

If you are wondering, yes, it's the same as the Bobby's in Chijmes. They were previously known as Bobby Rubino's and have changed management when the word Rubino was dropped. The yummy ribs remained.

Pardon the a bit grainy photos. The place is slightly dimmed to make it more cosy, so taking photographs are a bit difficult. (They should have sat us outdoors with natural light right?)
I thought I will still use the photos I took instead of using their stock photos. :-)

The tasting menu was for their Christmas Set menu from 15-23 December 08.
It costs SGD35++ per person.

Here's the sampling menu we had.
Festive Tossed Salad with Honey Baked Ham.

The sampling version of:
Fillet of Beef with Signature Mushroom Sauce & Grilled Dory Fillet with Sorrel Cream Sauce.

I like the Dory. The pumpkin that the dory is resting on is delicious too.
Pumpkin somehow taste good for most dishes ya?

The beef fillet. We were joking to them, no wagyu? :-)
For the set meal you choose between the Dory, Beef or Turkey.

The turkey choice is: Grilled turkey breast topped with chestnut stuffing and giblet gravy side with cranberry sauce. We did not get to try this.

The set meal comes with a Christmas log slice.

We were told their tiramisu's a house specialty. I wonder if they could replace the log cake with tiramisu. :-p This cake's not too bad.

Oh yes, there was a surprise dish that came out. (i.e. not part of the set meal above)
It was their Ribs. Anything with ribs will tempt me. I can eat the whole slab of it. Ribs are why people come to Bobby's right?

They are offering the ribs for takeaway for if you are holding your Christmas party at home. I have not gotten the pricing yet, will update it when it's available.

Eating ribs at home you can behave like a caveman. haha..

No Signboard Seafood @ VivoCity

We were celebrating a belated birthday for Sis and an advance birthday for Bro. Uncle and aunt was giving them a birthday treat and we went to No Signboard.

We started with the 'cold dish'. Love nibbling these stuff :-)

The 'jiang cong' (gingner and spring onion) venison. Delicious.
(By the way, we see there's no beef in the menu, and we told the boss does not eat beef - religious reasons.)

The sea cucumber claypot.

The sambal kangkong.

We were here to eat the White Pepper Crabs!
Two Sri Lankan crabs. Yumm....

Lovely lovely crabs.

This looks like a bird with a big beak isn't it?

We enjoyed the 'jiang cong' stuff so much, that we ordered a version with chicken.
The truth, the crab's too spicy for the kiddo, so this was ordered to feed her. hehe...

Seng Heng Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

Was in Bukit Timah Food Centre today and decided to try the super ultra popular chicken rice stall. There are I think about 3 or 4 chicken rice stalls in this food centre, but this stall just seems to have along snaking queue!

I waited around 30 minutes to get to my turn! The first 6 persons in the queue was having takeaways of 7-8 packets each! After they left, it was rather quick.

While I was queueing up, I had a chat with the 'aunty' who was behind me. Another guy behind her also joined us. The lady said that this stall is cheap and good. Only stall that people will queue for. This stall with the next few stalls around have been around for the longest time. They are the second generation. Hmm this lady must have been eating this chicken rice for years to know the history. I asked her which is nicer, the roast chicken or the 'white chicken'. She always order the roast chicken as it is less oily.

Anyway, since I had to queue for so long, I might as well order two types! (my bro will help to finish it for sure. haha)

The verdict, both bro and I think it's OK, quite decent. Portions are quite ok too for a $3 chicken rice.

My brother likes the 'white chicken', while I prefer the one below, the Roast Chicken.
Chicken rice is something very personal isn't it? Haha..

The chicken rice that my aunt says taste better than the other stalls.

This is the chilli that makes people addicted to their chicken rice? My aunt likes their chilli.

By the way, my uncle thinks its over-rated. He would not queue for it.

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House

Today, a colleague was very 'gian' (extreme urge) to go try the food at Cafe on the Ridge again. He is so 'gian' that he said he will treat all of us. And.... the glutton side of us yielded to his request. LOL...

Cafe on the Ridge is located at the new NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House.

It has a nice, modern contemporary look too. The colours they have chosen are bold too! Green and orange all over!

I had the Nasi Goreng Kampung. Previously at the old cafe, they had satay. It has now been replaced with beef rendang. It's still a huge portion with Fried Rice, Keropok, Sambal Prawns, Sunny Side up, Beef Rendang and Chicken Drumstick and achar.

Just turning the plate around to see the other side. Think it's around $9 if you round it up.

The daily set meal for the day was Nasi Lemak. Dpuk had this.
It looks really delicious too. A fried fish, otak-otak, Sambal, Salad, Ikan bilis with peanuts, Fried Eggs, Chicken Wings, Achar and of course the Nasi. Looks delicious eh? The fish is not

Turning around this huge plate too to let you salivate ;-)

Almond Jelly had the black CKT. It had too much 'crispies stuff' (fried lard) for her liking. We know another colleague would have loved the crispies. :-)

EK had the white version of Char Kuey Teow. He said the portion's small. (We told he should have ordered the rice dishes ;-) )

"Old Cat" had to suffer a bit. His cod fish took a long time to come out. All of us had our food served rather quickly, but his was only served when we had finish our lunch!

Well, he had to choose something that had to be steamed from scratch. But he said his cod fish was good.

It has mash potato, salad and stir fried vegetables too.

We were quite happy with it.

Happy Birthday to my dearest Sis..

My brother and I were trying to keep our sis awake. Asking her this and that until the clock strikes 12 midnight. Then at midnight, she heard a knock at our door and she got frightened!

(Frightened because our dear neighbour is having a bereavement now, there's lots of burning of you know what and sis is quite spooked about such things.)

Oh oh... We told her, open the door! Neighbour might need some help. Tada! Momo appeared with a Bakerzin box.

Inside the box was 3 little cakes.
This lemon meringue is so so sour and nice. I think they are made for pregnant women with cravings!

This chocolate heart shape cake is delicious. Looking at the chocolate tells you everything right?

Oh, and a pink macaron too!

Oh, girls always need just one candle. LOL...

Happy Birthday Sis!

Mayim @ West Mall

You might have heard the phrase, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" So, sis and I wondered, can anything good come out in West Mall? (oops, sorry to people who stay in Bukit Batok, it's just a joke)

But it seems there is! We who are living all over this tiny island, met up in West Mall so that we could have a birthday celebration dinner at Mayim. At a 'forever there's a queue' restaurant in West Mall called Mayim.

You get modern zen crockery. Cups that alternate between "fat and short" with "tall and slim". Plates that are not round, but triangular.

Also, condiments on the table that are quite unique and tasty.
(Sorry for the blur photos, came out today with a camera that has no more battery juice, you turn it on, the cameras turn itself off after the no power icon comes out, so no time to focus and quickly snap haha)

The Beef Tendon dish. It's quite delicious.

The soy sauce chicken. Usually you have this cold right? This one comes warm.

Family's favourite. Spicy aubergine with mince meat.
(Sorry, the word aubergine stuck to my mind after only 2 weeks in UK, I finally remember it as brinjal. LOL)

Fruity Fish.

Another dish that we like that makes your rice in your bowl just disappear!
Deep fried long beans with mince.

Tofu and mushroom dish.
Be very careful. It burns your tongue. It's very very hot!

Very tender beef with tao pok and cabbage.

This was unusual. Xiao long bao that comes in little cups.

We ended the meal with an ice cream cake from Swensen's from next door.
The kind management allowed us to bring in a cake. :-)

Eating @ Blk 124 Alexandra Village

This was lunch a few days ago with colleagues. One colleague wanted to eat the "No-name long queue fish soup". We expected the long queue, but 3 of us decided we shall not queue. So, 'almond jelly' ordered Ipoh Horfun and was already eating, it was instant!

I decided not to queue as well, and ordered Hor Fun too, but the zhi-char style from KEK Seafood. Yup, number 1 on this photo.

It arrives and what's the what's next?

One thing about Zhi-Char horfun that I like to do is the stirring and mixing!
You got to separate all the hor-fun that's sticking together, making sure every strand of it is coated with sauce. yum yum..

'Old Cat' that was queuing for like 15 minutes (and still not reaching the mid point) saw what I ate and decided to abandon the queue and ordered something similar, he had the bee hoon version instead.

'Dpuk' and 'Wire', the two who patiently queue had their rewards.
The ever popular long queue fish soup. The fried fish version.

And this the sliced fish version.

All the above in the same 'coffee shop' at:

Char Kuey Teow & Guo Tie @ Killeney Kopitiam Bukit Timah

Have you gotten bored of having Teh Si Peng / Teh Si / Kopi Si / etc.. with Kaya Toasts?

Hmmm what about having Char Kuey Teow with your Teh Si Peng?
That's what sis had... Looks quite decent?

My cousin? She had Guo Tie instead. (I should have flip one piece over to show the crispy brown bottom!)

For me, I just had my Teh Si Peng on a very very hot and humid afternoon yesterday.

Sis said the CKT tasted ok lah, not too bad but it's not the best you can get in town. It's a replacement to the usual kaya toast.

Our cousin had this thing about the Guo Tie here. Kids, once they tried something they like, they will eat it till a new fad comes along. LOL...

Sushi Tei @ Holland Village

From yesterday's diary post, you can guess where was dinner. So here it is...

I ordered a Spicy Kimchi Pot to share with a Beef Salad. Then we realise that our friend "G" is one of those that needs to have rice. haha... (just like my dad, he needs to have rice if possible for dinner, even if it's just one mouthful.)

The spicy hot pot as it arrived on the table.

Stirring it a bit to reveal what's inside. Kimchi, pork slices, different kind of mushrooms, tofu and cabbages.

I was told to take photo of it boiling, so here it is... haha..
Can't really see it boiling eh?

The Beef and Onion salad.

I forgot what dressing this is, but pouring this over the beef makes it quite tasty.

The inari that supplied the 'rice' for "G". Momo saw this and was tempted, and ate one.

I realise I have never ever ordered or eaten corn sushi! Nope, I did not have it.
I think corn and I have no mutual attraction. haha..
