Hog's Breath Cafe @ Holland Village

Today, a colleague asked us to meet him at Holland Village for lunch. After a few sms being ding-dong here and there, we ended up at Hogs Breath Cafe. We had a few choices but ended up here because there was a 1 for 1 UOB card offer! LOL..

The soup of the day was Mushroom Soup. Colleague was thinking of Aston's mushroom soup while drinking this. Hmmm...

His food came first. Hmmm is it because he ordered soup while the rest of us did not? :-)
It is very big right?

If you are wondering what is inside the 'mexican popiah', it is chicken.

Another colleague, and also the one treating us today, ordered something similar to the above. But for 20 cents diff, he should have ordered the above yah?

Was intrigued by this mash potato. Looks pretty eh?

Yet another colleague and I, we both had BBQ Baby Back Ribs. The large ones as well! I think it's a bit too much, we should not have been so greedy by ordering the big one. :-p

It was not too bad. I think I love ribs, so I am bias. LOL

We all had the choice of steamed veg or salad.
Fries, roast potato or mash. My choice as shown here is the steamed veg and roast potato.

Hope you all had a good start to this week!

Ben & Jerry @ Dempsey Hill

Continuation of yesterday's post, but under a different header. :-)

Yesterday I had a shot of how it looked outside, this is how it looks inside.

Not satisfied with just having 2 desserts, we ordered more. We wanted to try more desserts, but wondering which one to order. We were recommended to try "CA Experience (for 2)". $16.90 We get to taste so many kinds of their desserts!

It was delicious! Cheesecakes, 2 scoops of ice cream, etc...
I should not describe how it taste here, it might do injustice to it. You should try it yourself!

My favorite is the 2nd piece on the left beside the ice cream. It's a mix of chocolate, coffee and hazelnuts.

CA California @ Dempsey Hill

Last Sunday, after having lunch, uncle was driving us home when he took the Holland Rd route. Suddenly he decided to turn into Dempsey Road, since it was early. While driving up the road, a little sign with the word "Ben & Jerry" on the roadside caught our cousin's eye.

OK, now we have a purpose!. Look for ice cream! It took us some time, because we had a wrong turn and ended up back at Holland Road. We found the place eventually at 8 Dempsey Rd, #01-14.

If you are wondering the title is CA California, but this following photo shows Ben & Jerry. Well, it's the same place. Ice Cream is ordered at the counter for Ben & Jerry. Other food you order while seated at the table and its by CA California.

The old army barracks has been transformed to look like a range! There are those big and over sized chairs. It kind of remind me of this character in Sesame Street that reads story on a big over sized chair. Hmmm anyone remembers?

Since we already had lunch, we ordered desserts to share. Wondering what to order, we were recommended their specials. (by the boss I think)

This is the CA Hot Fudge Mud Pie $4.50. Sis says that it looks like a little coffin. I wonder if it's suppose to mean death by chocolate? It is really nice.

We were also recommended this Zen Apple Mousse. You get apple chunks/cubes inside the soft cake thingy. It's cold and the tiny hint of green apple sourness makes it such a delight!

Uncle and aunt saw "Happy Hotdog" $7 on the menu, and they ordered it. Hmm wonder if the name has any significance to them. They seem to smile at each other and ordered it. *speculating* haha...

Though we had our lunch, the above is definitely not enough for us right? Find out more tomorrow! hehe...

(pardon the grainy photos today, the place was a bit dark)

The Sandwich Shop @ Robinson Centre

Today's the last day that I am spending my 9-5 at the Robinson Road area. So for lunch today, colleague and I decided that we should try sandwiches around this area. We have been tempted by the few sandwich shops around.

In the end we decided that we would stay on this side of the road. We saw one opposite the road and decided we are not chickens and we are not crossing the road. LOL

Ok ok... it is actually this is the poster outside their shop that was tempting me! Walking past it for the last few days, today our legs brought us in.
(Address is 61 Robinson Rd, Robinson Centre)

When you walk in, you can see the full view of the open concept kitchen. It's as if you can pretend you are still a kid and ask mummy to make one for you in her kitchen. *piak* wake up boy!

OK. Here's my crayfish and rockets sandwich. Comes in a neat box with a little cherry tomato too. You pick them from the big chillers, like those in the supermarket where milk or drinks are sold.

Oh ya, the serving tray had a mini crossword. It has a date on it, but the date seems to be a few days past.

Here's what went into my mouth. Lots of rockets below. I love the taste of rockets.

Colleague had a wrap instead. It's quite filling according to her.

Nice ya? Although its not my lunch, but looking at it, I can imagine the crispy lettuce, juicy tomato and delicious looking meat in my mouth now.

I was suddenly thinking of lunches during uni days in Melbourne.

We also ordered a potato and egg salad and shared. Topping of the sinful bacon bits is enough. We thought of another colleague who loved potato salad. She would love this.

No food's wasted according to their napkins.

Very thankful the 1 week's course is over. It has been attending course in the day time and working from home at night for a week.

Have a good weekend!

Men-Tei Ramen @ Robinson Center

This might sound rude. Yesterday, while we were walking along Robinson Road after lunch, we saw these few young ladies who dressed up in their expensive business suits that were talking so loudly in a very gossipy tone, you would think they were aunties if you did not turn around and see them. haha...

They were talking about the need to come early to Men-Tei Ramen. Overheard: "Ey, tell you ah, this place hor, must come early one. Wait till lunch crowd come ah, you 'bao zhong'. Sure no place one. That's why today we bring you here to early early."

That was heard yesterday, today our instructor let us out at 11.45AM as promised. Before that we were secretly salivating looking at Men-Tei's menu at www.men-tei.com :-) We already decided what we were going to have before even stepping in.

We were there five to twelve and there was still lots of seats. Our orders were taken promptly and the food came in a jiffy.

This is colleague's Tonkatsu Ramen. The whitish broth that has been boiled for hours. (yes, we read it from their website)

I had the Miso Ramen. Deliciously satisfying.

We enjoyed it. Both had the grilled pork (yakibuta) that was very very tender. We love the egg (tamago) too. The egg white is hard, yet the egg yoke is semi soft inside. Yummm... The noodles are freshly made too.

4 kinds of ramen. (6 if you include the spicy and non spicy version) One standard price - $13 per bowl. No GST and service charge. Comes with a drink. (water or green tea)

Another interesting discovery today. What shall we have tomorrow?

Zhen Shan Mei Claypot Laksa @ Market St Carpark

For this whole week, a colleague and I, we are attending a course at Robinson Road. Being newbies in this area, lunch time is a fun time to look for food.

On Monday we had food at the more familiar Amoy St Food Centre. Tuesday we made a bad decision by going to China Sq Food Centre. It seems that this place is closing down, most stalls have closed and the food we had was horrible.

For the last few days, we were busy spotting places to eat. One that caught our eye was this long long queue at a laksa shop at the Market St Carpark building.

So, today we decided to try this laksa. We were let off for lunch at around 11.45 AM, quite a blessing at the lunch crowd has not invaded the city. No queue!

Colleague had the Prawn Mix Laksa. $6.90

I had the Chicken Mix Laksa instead. $6.90

All the ingredients are hidden inside. You get 2 chicken wings, lots of 'ham' / cockles, tao pok, fish cake etc... And the super thick calorie laden gravy.....

The gravy is thick and yummy. The sambal is spicy and fiery. Although you are sitting in an air con place, you will definitely break sweat eating this. The claypot keeps your laksa hot and that keeps a bowl of heat heating up your face. haha...

The chicken tasted like it is boiled separately and just added on top. You got to 'coat' it with the thick gravy to make it taste good.

Wondering what should we have for lunch tomorrow.

Prego @ Fairmont Singapore

Last Saturday, Momo, sis and I, we went for brunch at Prego. Sis wanted to eat at Prego and we remember our Feed at Raffles card, so off we went.

Here's what we had.

For starters, we had Caprese. $23 (yes, again!) We had watch the History Channel on Friday night, and there was this documentary about making cheese. We saw the menu and it had Buffalo Cheese, we just had to order it. You should try this too. The rockets, tomatoes and cheese goes so well. :-)

We shared our mains. Spaghetti Vongole $25.
Sis and Momo love to eat this, they actually ordered one each. Right after we ordered, they changed their mind and thought we should have something else.

They decided to changed one vongole into pizza. This is the Prego Pizza $26.
Yes, the pharma ham with rockets on crispy thin crust. Lovely too...

You want some too?

I ordered the Risotto of the Day. Guess what it is? It's Rabbit Risotto! $33 When I heard it, I just had to order it! haha...

Looks plain and boring right? But it's actually quite tasty.

Everything's all in small pieces, so here's a scoop of it. Now at least you can see the rabbit and the asparagus. Ok Ok, I hear some of you say Italian porridge. haha...

It was a nice brunch. We realise we will come here every Easter!
With the Feed at Raffles card, the bill had a 33% off the food itams. So plus taxes etc, it was $84.38

Din Tai Fung @ Tampines Mall

Yesterday I posted a photo of the huat kueh, that was part of the food we ate last Friday at Din Tai Fung at Tampines Mall.

The 'xiao cai', this is the combi of seaweed, tau kuah, tang hoon, tau geh etc mix. We always love this dish. We actually have this when we come here.

When we asked for another and it came looking smaller, we jokingly said that to the lady. She was quick to rebutt us! It's all weighted and it's the same. Hmm ok. She was not in a particulary good mood. LOL.

Another appetizer dish is the salted vegetable dish. It's a bit salty but goes well with other things that we had.

We also had the 'suan la tang'. I like it the way it is, but sis and aunt would prefer it to be more 'suan', add more vinegar if you like it sourish.

This is red vinegar dumpling. Try it if you come here, this is yummy!

For our carbo stuff, we had the prawn fried rice.

And also the pork chop fried rice.

While in the pork chop mood, sis and momo shared this pork chop noodle soup.

Since we had more people, we could order 20 xiao long bao! (yes, madness. haha...) But we were really hungry!

If you like prawn dumpling, this one is actually quite quite good! The soup's not salty, so eating this with the kiam chai dish above goes well.

When we ordered, the waitress asked if we had Citibank card, we did and this yam dumpling came free. Imainge 'or nee' in dumplings. ;-)

It was a good lunch after being awake since early early morning and we did not have any breakfast.

Risen Cake.

You most probably have eaten this steam cake before. I had it on Friday at Din Tai Fung as one of the dishes.

With yeast cakes like this can rise to be tall and fluffy. With this risen cake, it reminds me of Easter. Easter is all about the Risen Saviour that Christians believe.

Curious to find out about what Christians believe? Whether you are a Christian or not, I would like to invite you to come for an Introduction class to find out more about studying the Bible. I mentioned two days ago about Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). If you happen to be 18-35 years old, there's a BSF Young Adults class at Tanjong Pagar, hosted in a church opposite Amoy Street Food Centre called Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church. Come along for the Introduction Class next Thursday, 3 April at 7:25 PM.

You can have a meal at the Amoy Street Food Centre too :-)

Blessed Easter to all.

Bread of Life

This is a loaf of warm soft bread from Prego @ The Fairmount. I for one love this bread and love to dip it with the tangy tomato based dip they have or if you are like my sister, dip it in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Have you heard about the Bread of Life?

In the Bible, in John 6:35 says:
"Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."

You can see all the photos of food in this blog, it looks delicious, but can it satisfy your soul? You will get hungry again in a few hours after eating. Food feeds your body but does it feed your soul?

This Good Friday / Easter Sunday weekend, why not consider how you can feed your soul?

This link hopefully might be useful to you.

Good Friday

Ever wondered what Good Friday is all about?

I had a colleague asked me just a few days ago what is Good Friday and Easter about. Is it about chocolate bunnies and easter eggs? Have you bought your chocolates? she asked.

No, it isn't. It is about Jesus Christ being crucified on the cross on Good Friday and on Easter Sunday, he resurrected. How is it possible you ask?

There are many people you can ask. Your Christian friends might be able to answer you. You can also decide to walk into a church this weekend.

If you think attending church is something that you are not ready at the moment, maybe you want to consider attending Bible Study groups that helps you understand the Bible that Christians believe is the Word of God.

I am part of this group call Bible Study Fellowship. It is an international group of people who meet together to find out more about God. If you are interested, you can join one group that is nearer to where you live. You can visit www.bsfinternational.org to search for the class nearest to you.

Have a Good Friday.

Beijing Feng Wei @ NUS Business Canteen

This was colleague's lunch. I had Indian food, that's not so photo worthy. LOL
If you like dumplings, you can pop over the NUS Business Canteen on Thursday. The Beijing Fengwei stall only sells dumplings on Thursdays.

10 big dumplings for $3.
If you order the 20 pieces version, I think it is $5. (I don't think anyone can finish 20 of them!!)

Some side dishes that goes along if you like. This delicious spicy mix is only $1.

Have a blessed long Good Friday weekend!

Melting Pot @ Holiday Inn Atrium (Day 2)

It was a two day course, so we had lunch at the same place again. I tried to be clever. I thought since it is the same place, I shall only eat half of the spread yesterday and today I eat the other half. I was so wrong! The next day the menu changed! I was actually looking forward to eat the 'Red Tulang' and other stuff. But they were not on the menu!

The duck was not there the first day. So I tried it. Quite yummy, you should know that I seem to like duck nowadays. Actually the roast pumpkin behind the duck is yummier!

No red tulang, but the lamb was cooked in soya today. Regretting not having it on the first day!

Things that were the same was the spicy prawns. The prawns got bigger the next day! 3 of it filled almost the whole plate.

This too remained. You guessed it! I had it again.

The Mee Suah was replaced with Bak Chor Mee the 2nd day. A few of us thought that it tasted very good! The minced pork sauce was very delicious!

I tried the Pulut Hitam. Yesterday it was something else I think, yellowish stuff that I did not bother. LOL. Not too bad. I think its ok, but colleague said it is a tad too liquidy.

Those who like Or Nee took it. I am not a fan of it, this is someone else's food on the same table. LOL. There were lots of traditional kueh muih (those really multi coloured bright kuehs! eg, Ang Ku Kueh, Gao Teng Kueh, the different puluts with purple, green etc) and biscuits.

Our table shared a fruit rojak. It was hard to imagine lai chee, grapes etc with Hay Kor (Prawn paste) right? But it turn out to be very very tasty! You should try it!

We were wondering how much it was too, since it came with the course fees, we had to dig dig to find out. We found the brochure. $28 per adult (Mon-Fri), $29.50 per adult (Sat, Sun, eve of & on Public Holiday), $18 per child (5-11 years old). Remember to add the taxes in too.

Not bad lah. Our colleagues and I, we were glad we passed and got certified to be ISO9001 auditors. LOL

Melting Pot @ Holiday Inn Atrium

For Monday and Tuesday this week, I spent my 9 am to 5 pm at Holiday Inn Atrium attending a course. It is to be 2 days of intensive certification course.

In between all the cramping, we were provided 2 tea breaks and a buffet lunch at the same venue. So, here's what a few colleagues and I had.

It is a Peranakan Buffet lunch. On the brochure it says that the restaurant's executive chef actually made a pilgrimage to Malacca to search for he secrets of authentic Nonya Cooking. (In Singapore, it's spelt Nonya, in Malaysia it is spelt as Nyonya, don't ask me why, I can only say people in Singapore can't spell!)

My plate of tiny bits of food. The boiled white chicken.

The delicious big spicy prawns! It was very popular. The tray empties very fast. LOL

They had Pork Satay that was pan fried in the centre island. Pan fried? Ya, like Aussie Barbeques, it is cooked on hot plates. :-)

The Mee Suah Bak Kut teh. Not my style of BKT. I like the herbal kind.

It must be a long long time since I had porridge with all these condiments! It was just too salty for me! haha... Of course lah! All the preserved stuff. But I finished it anyway. LOL

One of my favourites. I love Babi Ponteh. I am wondering why people don't call it Khinzir Ponteh? LOL. Babi makes it sound like you are scolding someone. LOL

Err, I dun like this versio of Kueh Pai Tee. I think I prefer the ones from Bukit Timah Food Centre. hehe...

Did not photograph everything. It will be too boring right? I realise that there were lots of old man and old ladies there on Monday. I wonder why? They look peranakan with their dressing. Must be missing their homestyle food.

Anyway, let me end with the fruit I had. Nangka!! or Jackfruit. They are lovely. The old ladies were just piling up on Nangka only, nothing else. I tell you, if you observe what they eat, they are super choosy and choose the expensive stuff!

Burp! After the heavy lunch, everyone was just trying to stay awake for the afternoon session. It was torturing! haha...

The Mushroom Pot @ OG Orchard (Part II)

Continuation from yesterday....

Our cousin wanted to 'play' with food, so she had the Mini Beef Set. It comes with a big platter of meat and mushroom.

And a pot of mushroom soup. She 'enjoyed' cooking her own meal. ;-) It also comes with rice and a slice of watermelon and mushroom salad as well. ($18.80)

For me, I seem to be always attracted to ribs! I had the Tibet Ribs Set. ($13.80) Quite delicious but a bit 'fatty'.

Had two side dishes too. Mushroom salad like the one shown yesterday and wasabi fried mushroom bits.

I also had a bowl of soup that has all kinds of mushrooms inside. The soup's good, if you like mushroom like I do.

Wishing all Christians a very meaningful passion week.

The Mushroom Pot @ OG Orchard

Today, we went to OG. Yes, it's OG the Department Store that we sometimes jokingly say, where Old Girls go. LOL. That's mean ya? I was actually quite surprised that OG has so many things and so many people! The top floor sells lots of Korean and Japanese tidbits! For those who want to make their own kimchi, I see the korean chilli powder sold here!!

Since we were at OG, we just pop by the Mushroom Pot for lunch since it is inside OG.
This is the pack of tissue that has their logo on it. By the way it's not free, you are paying 30 cents for it ok?

The pickles made of my favourite pickled veg! It's not salty, so you have the tendency to eat too much and get your tongue numb! LOL

This is uncle's set. ($13.80) He ordered the Seafood Noodle Set. As the name suggest, you get lots and lots of varieties of mushroom in it!

It comes with these two side dishes. 2 deep fried shitake mushrooms.

Plus a bowl of shredded mushroom salad and a slide of watermelon.

This is aunt's lunch. She ordered the 'pek kueh' or Rice Cake dish. ($10) We realise she always orders this when it's in the menu. It's her dialect dish! :-)

What did I eat? Find out tomorrow.. LOL...

Da Jie Niang Dou Fu @ Clementi Ave 2

I was woken up at around 11AM by momo and sis if I wanted breakfast. OK. Sure why not? I wake up get stuff to eat. haha... They had eaten earlier at this new place they found after going for exercise. Da Jie Niang Dou Fu at Clementi Ave 2.

These are the photos from Momo. It's like a place where you can get different styles of Niang Dou Fu. There's Tom Yam, Laksa, Hakka, Ampang to choose from

This is Momo's Hakka Style.

Sis had the soup only version.

This is my tapow version. The kuey teow is a lump already because i took time to wake up when the food arrived.

This is the Ampang Version. Quite tasty. But they said, it was a tad expensive and want to go to NUS sometime to eat there. haha...

Da Cheng Hainan Chicken Rice @ Amoy Street Food Centre.

A few of us friend order chicken rice from this stall although you know for sure it will take a long time for the food to come. haha..

It's just that this old couple managing the stall, just happen to be slow. Their 'shou jiao man'. (translated as 'Hand Leg Slow' LOL) But somehow, we still get chicken rice from him because we want to 'support support' this old couple who is still in business.

One thing unique about this chicken rice is that it comes with peanuts! The chicken rice is nice too.

But when we are in a rush, we will avoid them, and go for the other chicken stall opposite them. That stall has super fast service by a younger couple and their chicken rice is quite nice too.

Crystal Jade Shanghai Restaurant @ Changi Terminal 3

Yesterday, Mum and Sis arrived back from their holiday and we picked them up at the airport. The newspapers have been reporting about people flocking to Terminal 3 to shop and eat, so we decided to 'kepo kepo' a bit, so we went from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 to eat. (yes eat. because they arrived on a 9 pm plus flight, we know they will be starving.)

Remembering that this is Singapore, when it's around 9 plus, whatever restaurant that is open, you better quickly get in and hopefully get to order before 'their kitchen closes'. (Experience that too many times liao....)

Where did we go? The first restaurant we saw was Crystal Jade Shanghai noodles. True enough, after we placed our orders, we were told, 'do you have any other things that you want to order? the kitchen closes in around 15 mins'. Haha! Made it in time!

We shared a spicy la mian. Pork and Mushroom La Mian that has a spicy peanuty taste.

We also ordered a Stew Pork. Looks good? haha.. But taste errr so so only lah. You know the hokkien call it 'si kiam', translated as 'dead salt'. haha.. Hmmm it means that it only has the salty taste, and it would be better if it has a tiny bit of sweetness or sourish or spiciness.

This is the skin that goes with the stew pork above. You can make 'kong bak pow' with it.

The stir fried rice cakes. Sis likes it very much. It has the hint of 'burnt wok' smell. The fire is strong enough.

This is the cold spicy chicken. We had it once at the CJ Lamian branch at Holland V. We liked it, so we ordered. Although it looks spicy, it is mild. Not spicy at all. We thought hmmm maybe it is the airport and this is for 'ang moh' taste. LOL... The one in HV had cold pickled cucumbers, this one doesn't.

We also had another cold dish (yes, cold starter dishes that arrives after we all the food arrives. LOL). Lotus root pickles with capsicum bits and sesame seeds. Momo was with us and prefer it a bit more vinegarish. :-)

Errr, we think we will prefer not to eat at the airport lah, the food does not taste as nice as the main branches in other parts of Singapore. I think the food in Terminals 1 & 2 seems to be better.

All together, the bill plus the applicable taxes comes out to $62.62 (yes what a unique number).

Sakae Teppanyaki @ Bugis Junction (Part II)

Hi again! I am not going to bore you all with the cooking process, but here's what we ate. We had 4 persons and we ordered 4 different sets. So that we can try all the different types of food. We had Chicken Set, Turkey Set, Seafood Set and Beef Set I think.

It's interesting sitting and looking at the 2 different teppanyaki chefs cooking in front of you. You always wonder who's meal he is cooking next and when it is done, you wonder... is it going to end up in front of me? haha....

Well, the following 7 pictures ended up in either of our plates.
The seafood fried udon. The cooking process sure is interesting. We were so glad it ended up on our plate. haha...

This beautiful chawanmushi like thingy is made of an onion as its 'container'. It was made from scratch and 'steamed' in front of us. It has an onion-y taste but it's not bad! Pretty too!

These scallops made us drool a bit while the guy was cooking it. They were taken apart out of the shell and cooked. Then more garlic was stir fried at another spot and the whole thing assembled back onto the shell that was sizzling. You got to try it!

Some sets came with fried veggies too. Not sure which one but we all shared anyway.

The tofu pieces were cooked very slowly at each side to make it brown nicely. They seem to be forever on the teppanyaki surface we were wondering when will it be done????
Patience paid off when it ended up on our plates.

We had chicken which I am not posting up. This is the turkey meat. This one shows it a bit charred, but removing those little bit, it taste good.

We were quite full eating the various meats and other things, we thought it is done. We saw the chef stir frying mushrooms and though, if only it came with out set. To our surprise it did! haha...

I think the experience is quite wonderful. We did not really memorize what was in the set, and we were just sitting and looking at two guys cooking in front of us, and hoping it ends on our plates. LOL. I guess if the chefs were not too concentrated in cooking and spent some time chatting with the people they are cooking for, it will be even more interesting.

Eg, when they are cooking your beef, they can chat to you and tell you something about it. hmmm...

Each set range around $12-16. Our total bill was around $60.

Sakae Teppanyaki @ Bugis Junction

We were at Bugis Junction today and discovered that the whole place had changed so much! The makan places in this placed have moved around!

We walked past Sakae Teppanyaki and wondering what to eat, uncle led the way in.. haha. Sakae have recently opened quite a few branches around, but the thought of having smelly clothes after always prevented me from going in.

We were pleasantly surprised we did not 'smell' after the lunch was over! The ventilation and suction power of the teppanyaki exhaust is quite good. :-)

Here's one dish that was cooked in front of us - Garlic Rice.
Here's the humble rice.

With a 'indecent' amount of garlic (the more the merrier!), fried with oil and butter.

With eggs too... And the miracle happens in the hands of the teppanyaki chef.
Dash of sake, and various sauces... it is transforming...

Vigorous clanking of the spatula and some somersault of the bottles of sauces when its being poured. It looks promising!

You could see the rice actually jumping around the hot surface!

Here's the end product.

The tiny shrimps was toasted on the hot surface before being placed on top of the rice.
Want some? :-p

Tung Lok Seafood @ East Coast Parkway (Part II)

Sorry for the late post, backdating it. (hehe..)

Are you a fan or lor pok gao? Well, I did not get to eat it! Hmmm it's ok, we were too busy eating so many other things! The lazy susan does get to rotate a full round, and the food's gone. So, each half the table only eats the food in front of them! haha...

This I got to try. It was at my side of the table.
Looks a tiny bit oily, but it was very crispy! Imagine the super crispy bite now, "kounk kounk" at then the warm moist filling in your mouth. It was quite divine! haha... We ordered a few more plates of it, after the crackling sound made the other side of the table so tempted! LOL.

This is another of the crispy stuff. Nice and crispy on the outside, moist and juice prawns inside!

This was the 2nd round ordering, after all the food was gone. We wondered if we tasted all 20 over of the dishes. Then suddenly someone said he liked the sambal sotong. Then our side of the table asked, what sambal sotong? We totally missed it over this side, so we placed order for 3 plates. LOL. We did not regret putting these just nice, not rubbery sotong in our mouth.

Our second order of 'fried calamari'. This is very addictive! Super! After deep frying, the added the addictive spicy stuff over it! haha...

The first round of these dumplings had people at the other side of the 12 person table, so this side of the table also wanted to try it.

Some like the prawn paste chicken wings, so more was ordered. It taste quite nice with the sweetish chilli sauce that came with it.

I ate lots of these! Steam Pork Ribs. It did not have much 'bones' for the 'ribs' haha... But it was quite nice. I have this bad habit of liking to drink up the so called soup. :-O

Yes, there are vegetables, we had a few orders of the sambal kangkung and also the other vegetable that I suddenly forgot! Getting your tongue spiced up always makes us happy!

We ordered all the desserts on the menu to share too.
We had guilin gao, ice cream puffs and this is the 'tang yuan'. This tangyuan is the dry version with peanut powder. It's actually quite nice! A colleague had like 6 of them!

Let me end this makan trip with a sweet ending.
Red Bean Soup. No, we did not sell our birthright for this bowl of soup. :-)

Yesterday's post had someone asking how much it costed the boss?
We has 12 person and the total bill was $300 with $2 change. :-P

Tung Lok Seafood @ East Coast Parkway

Today, the boss treated us lunch. What's the occasion? It was to welcome a new colleague that joined us last week. Since the boss was treating, we were 'tasked' to choose a few places to go.

Do we want to 'ketuk' him? haha.. We remembered we had him treat us lunch at Club Chinois when he got a Public Service Award some years ago. haha.. That cost him a bomb! (ey, you all don't say eee..., these people, take advantage only... don't tell me it did not cross your mind if your boss is treating you all. haha.. )

Anyway, we were kind and chose a reasonably priced place. We wanted to have Dim Sum Buffet. So, a colleague made the arrangements and book a table for 12 @ Tung Lok Seafood at East Coast Parkway.

Here's what we ate.

Brain food! Walnuts always taste good right? Toasted, coated with caramel and sesame seeds. How can some high in anti oxidant taste so good? LOL...

OK. Since we had so many of us, we practically ordered everything in the menu! The first thing that arrived on our tables were the Century Egg Porridge. We love porridge. Nice warm porridge warmed our hearts and also appetite.

Next came a few plates of Chee Cheong Fun. We had the succulent prawns version and the fragrant char siu version. Which is your favourite?

Such beauties aren't they? Hand crafted, almost translucent skin, freshly steamed, whole prawns just waiting for your mouth to savour it.

When was the last time you had braised duck wings? For many of us, too long ago. Soft and tender soy sauce chicken, roasted char siew and roast duck. We loved it, and had a second order later.

If you have been following our food diary, you know these bunch of nut cases loves chicken feet, or shall we put it in a more gourmet term, Steamed Phoenix Claws. Guess how many steamers of phoenix claws we had? We counted, 14! Hey, the collagen will you flawless attractive skin ok? If they could speak, they will tell you, 'don't look me no up'.

If you saw the egg tarts a few days ago and thought hey, I want it the way it should be. They have it here. Mini versions, or bite size as it is the term people use nowadays. One bite is definitely not enough.

This was mid way... interested in more photos of the food we had?

It's always fun to go eat in big groups, you get to taste a bit of everything.
More photos tomorrow....

Steamboat @ Home

Last Wednesday, our Care Group decided to have a fun nite. We decided to have Steamboat and Wii Games Night.

So after work, two persons (me included) met at Holland Village Cold Storage to get the ingredients for the steamboat. We quickly bought the things we needed and head back home to prepare the food. It's quite simple. We just need to wash and cut up the vegetables, prepare the sotong, marinate the chicken and rinse everything else and we are ready to go!

Nearly forgot to take photo, so when we threw everything in, quickly snap a few photos.
We don't really like to eat lots of balls kind of steamboat, so we only had minimal balls, only 1 small pack of sotong ball, and 1 small pack of pork balls.

We threw the baby corn in, some beijing cabbage, and an assortment of mushrooms in.

You wont see any other cooked food, coz after taking these photos, we were all busy cooking, waiting, chatting, laughing and eating. It's always fun right?

It's kind of silly, but whenever we have steamboat we like the food hot, yet we can't stand the heat so we turn on the air conditioning so that we wont sweat. haha..

Anyway, we bought these thinly sliced pork too. They are excellent. Quick to cook and tasty.

We also had beef. We also have this Japanese Beef dipping that goes very well with the beef.

We had 7 people so we bought only 14 prawns! It seems we are all not very big fans of prawns.

This is the chicken thigh meat that we cut up and marinated. They are delicious after cooking.

Had 3 sotong. I love cleaning sotong! haha... I love to rip out the outer skin layer of the sotong. But I realise that I cut it the wrong way! I should have but it in big slices and had the x x x pattern, but we were too busy talking, we forgot!

We had these CP brand prawn wontons as well. These are really good! You have watched the TV adverts before right? They are really quite nice. haha...

We had a good laugh at this veg. One 'Dr' friend said he loved Tang Oh, so he put 3 big bags of this in the trolley. So when we got home, he volunteered to clean them. Yes, he cleaned them well as if he was going into the operating theatre. But we saw that he left all the 'main stem' on! So, you can see the whole plant inside the soup when we put them in. He said he likes them like that. Hmmm we wonder if it is so, or he forgot! (we think he does not do any of these things at home)

Ever since watching "da chang jin", we know cabbage is nutritious! haha... Like this veg really soft. Do you?

This is some 'archar'. Love it! Our 14 chopsticks just pick it up so quickly when we are waiting for the water to boil and cook our food.

Oh yes, the soup base is one pack of the Lee Kum Kee hotpot packs. 1 pack is more than enough! You can easily replicate it at home. We used a induction cooker and a thick base, wide but shallow pot. We also had a bottle of Thai Tomyam paste, those who wanted it spicy, just add it in. For carbo, we had a few packs of Udon. It goes well with the tomyam paste and the very rich soup half way through.

After dinner, we played Wii all the way..........

Weekend nibbles at Bukit Timah Food Centre. Some things that we eat not because we are hungry, but 'mouth itchy' want to eat something kind of food. They are all quite tasty. All eaten at Bukit Timah Food Centre.

Bedok Chwee Kueh. (yes, this is Bkt Timah, but you can get it here anyway. haha..)
I like chai por a lot! hehe..

Popiah and Kueh Paiti.
Kueh Paiti always reminds me of mum's 2nd sister. she always makes the shells for us :-)

Rojak. I like the 'you tiao' the most. :-)

Do you all like to nibble on food like these? :-)

Ichiban Sushi @ IMM

Within a week, I pop in to Ichiban Sushi two times! Today for lunch, I went to Ichiban Sushi at Plaza Singapura. haha... But I did not whip out my camera at all, because I still had so many photos from few days ago!

Other than the shared stuff that I showed yesterday, we also shared salmon skin. It's really addictive, this stuff.

I had the Set Meal. It's actually very filling. It has the beef and tofu dish, a bowl of rice, a bowl of spicy udon with chicken, 2 cute little balls, soup and fruits.

This beef thing is nice. Guess what, for today's lunch, I had the same thing! But it had a different set name, and had no cili padi. The cili padi gives it a kick!

The spicy udon with chicken. It is like Jap Curry Udon.

Other colleagues all have different combi of almost the same thing! haha..
One had soba with tofu.

Another because we were also sharing other things, had a 'half' version of it. Yes, they have this half version which is really half of what is above right? 1 piece of everything instead of 2.

Another colleague did not have the tofu skin thingy. But it's a full version. (because there's two pieces of the fish cake? thingy haha)

Instead he had prawn tempura.
Somehow looking at it now, it looks so similar to the tempura ice cream eh?

OK, I think I have enough Jap food for the week.
Tomorrow's another busy week ahead.

I read something very interesting this morning. We always wish that a day is longer by an hour or two right? That way, we can have more time to finish up things that we always wanted to do.

Did you realise, this year we had our wish come true! We had a whole extra day! 24 hours of it! 2 days ago! Did you make full use of it? Hmmm... If not, 4 years later at the next leap day, remember to make use of it. :-)

Ichiban Sushi @ IMM

Remember I mentioned that we have a colleague now to help us plan where we should go for lunch? "Mdm Preggie" was craving for Jap food, so we took a ride to Ichiban Sushi @ IMM.

The 7 of us had lots of food, here's only 5 photos. I think you all have seen and can guess what we ate. haha..

One of the first few plates of the 'share' food that we had. Unagi Sandwich. It's quite interesting and tasty!

I think a colleague ate this previously and a photo was also posted. But this time, another colleague asked if he could have salmon belly. They did give it to him! He was enjoying it. LOL.

We ate so much, but we still had some desserts anyway. I would say I prefer the desserts at the other Jap restaurant 1 floor down. haha...

But a man's food is another man's poison. Some of us like it, some did not.

Now, this was something different. Tempura Ice Cream. Yes it was deep fried ice cream.

Crispy outside, soft inside. For me personally, I think I prefer normal ice cream. The texture reminds me and another colleague of Pisang Goreng. But that colleague like the tempura so much!

Hope you had a great start to March!
