Eating Fruit Cake @ Workplace

This was sometime last week. We had one of the lunches where the portions are so small, you get hungry by 3pm!

One colleague brought out from his mini fridge "the fruit cake". It's made by his mum and he had poured like so much alcohol inside to 'preserve' it. Here it is, unwrapped from the layers of plastic and aluminium foil.

Fruit Cake

Each time we eat it, we can only eat 2 or 3 pieces of it. It's too rich!

Fruit Cake

I think fruit cakes eaten cold is nice. My mum makes them and we store them in our freezer and cut and eat them when we feel like it. Looks like many mums makes good fruit cakes.

Does anyone likes fruit cakes too?

I think I am strange but I like fruit cakes, very old school but this one looks very dense... I like them chilled too.

i love fruit cakes eaten chilled..those made with lots of molasses hence the dense texture... and also i like them with a strong hint of rum...

ice, foodiegymmie,

Not old school at all.
I have always liked fruit cakes. Mum makes them all the time for us :-)

I like them chilled, but when there's older guest coming to our place, we put them in the toaster oven for a while, it comes out nice and warm, just nice for a hot cup of coffee and tea :-)

Ooh looks like the way my mom used to make it for CNY! Chockful of goodness! (And special 'preserving' fluids, ahem.)

;)

DH likes fruitcakes.. especially the homemade type... but I think I never tried any good ones, I only ever ate the hotel wedding dinner fruitcakes.. and those taste like plastic, so I never like them!

Ah, too sweet for my taste lah ! I prefer fluffy cake filled with whipped cream (popular choice in NL btw)n garnished with fresh fruits. The only "densed" cake I like is kueh lapis. I used to get them specially made by an old chum, with crushed roasted almonds in them. It's alot nicer than the usual prunes, I'd say :-p

Choc Reindeer,
Oh, the hotel wedding dinner fruitcakes are not nice. But they make great fillers just before the dinner starts! LOL....

Dutchie,
Haha.. fruit cakes are nice. Home made ones are not that sweet, depending on who makes it :-)
