The Daily Scoop! of ice cream...

The Daily Scoop is a ice cream shop that makes their ice cream at the same premises. It's one of the nice ice cream shop, also in the West of Singapore.

It's located at Sunset Way, in a place called Clementi Arcade.

If only, I live next door, then I can really have daily scoop!

I ordered Chocolate Ice Cream. I love anything chocolate. They also served it in a ice cream bowl that's super cold, so your ice cream does not melt so quickly.

Colleague ordered, err I forgot what her ordered. haha... he's the only one who ordered double scoop and with choc coated cone too!

We all went in a group, here's a pic of those who ordered cones. Most of them ordred Durian.

Try it, you'll love it!

Haato Ice Cream - another ice cream discovery in the west

This post is really really fresh off the press. These photos were taken like 1 hour ago.

A few friends, we were talking about Jap food, and someone said, I know a place that has ice cream. Err it's 10 pm now, still open? Oh yes it is!

It's called Haato. It's located at 5 Ridgewood Close. (The Mt Sinai area)

Look at the flavours they have. Guess what I ordered?

I had White Sesame and Red Bean.

Some photos to let you see it at all angles.

There's waffles too! This is waffles with Chocolate Gelato.

This place has board games you can play too. We played 3 rounds of Sudoku. Yes at nearly midnight, we were so brain dead!

Stay tuned. I have been to another ice cream place few days ago, also in the West of Singapore. I shall post it soon.

Super Easy French Herbs Chicken Wings

This was what I prepared Saturday night. It's really simple, and you can do it too. 4 ingredients only. how simple can it get?

I had 11 chicken wings, the middle part only.
1 1/2 tablespoons of abalone sauce
1 1/2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
a huge dash of dried french herbs. (The Carrefour gourmet range) which is about 3 tablespoons.

I usually add in a dash of extra virgin olive oil, but decided not to today, which i regretted.
I usually use those non stick sheets, which are superb, they make cleaning up easy. See them in the picture? The water drop stays round. cool eh?

Marinate them well, dump it in a zip lock bag, shake it, and let it sit in fridge for like 2 hours.
After that, bake them at 140-150 C for 25 mins. I prefer low heat to let it cook slowly.
After that, turn the heat up a bit to around 160 C to let it brown and crisp to your liking.

Enjoy. :-)

It's the kopitiam opposite OCBC, behind Fairprice.

Tung Lok Seafood: Part 2

Part 2 today.

Next served was the Prawns. They are so fresh!

Then little Dim Sum baskets appeared with 4 little treasures.

Then the noodles came out. I would say I love this the best. The stock is delicious, it's a bit salty but yummy. The pork's salty, different from the starter. The noodles done just right.

Dessert's included. Or Ni (Yam Paste) was served. There's carrots inside you know!

The traditional chinese dessert, served at all chinese restaurants :-)

To answer comments posted yesterday, I think they are wise to open in Tuas. It's packed! I think most businesses will bring their clients here for food. :-)

Tung Lok Seafood: Part 1

Colleagues felt 'a bit rich', so we were treated to lunch at Tung Lok Seafood. We thought there was going to be buffet dim sum, but aiya! it's only for dinner and weekends. It's Thursday afternoon.

Anyway, since we were there, we sat down and enjoy our food lah, it's so ulu at Tuas Industrial estate. The only choice was Burger King beside it. Errr....

The starter already taste good yah. Sambal Long Beans with Bean Curds and Ikan Bilis.

Then there's this lady that carries this tray of food walking around, asking if you would like to try stuff. OK, we saw this and said yes! White Pork with Jelly Fish below.

We ordered the Set Meal. This is our first dish from the Set Meal. It's very delicious. No need to describe in details right, your keyboard will be soaked with liquid. haha...

Rest of the Set Meal tomorrow. Stay tuned...

This was taken yesterday. Thanks for those who prayed for my rashes to be healed. I think I am ok liao. Still taking antihistamins and putting on cream. See I am back into eating stuff with colleagues. LOL..

ABC Market: Fatty Cheong

You know I have been itching and chinese believe you should not be eating things that is considered 'tok' (in hokkien). Which can be loosely translated as poisonous. But but but.. colleagues decided let's go have Duck at ABC Market today!

Of course I was tempted. So off I go...

Here's ABC Market. (See this other blog to know why it's ABC)

Then here it is. Fatty Cheong. Colleagues discovered it by reading another food blog. Realised that the ducky here taste better than Tiong Bahru's!

There were 4 of us. Ordered half a duck.

And also Roast Pork and Crispy Pork.

More pix of the pork.

Guess what, I only ate the pork and veg. I was so disciplined that I did not touch the duck! And also the wonton soup (which had prawns another 'tok' food to avoid).

My rashes are 90% gone. I am on the road to recovery and back to normal makan soon I hope.

Heng Hua Food: Bee Hoon Soup, Chicken, Prawns in Bamboo, Dessert

The last of the series.

Here's the Heng Hua Bee Hoon Soup. I prefer the dry version.

This chicken looks normal right? Is there anything Heng Hua to it? haha... But it's delicious.

This is the Drunken Prawns in Bamboo cylinder. I think someone commented on the first day about it. Wonder if I am allergic to prawns? hmmm...

This is the dessert. White fungus, ginko nuts and red date. (note its singular. haha...)

What shall I post for the food tomorrow? I have only been eating plain porridge and pickled chai sim for the last 2 days. Poor thing eh...

Heng Hua Food: Briased Beancurd, Heng Hua Bee Hoon, Steamed Fish, Braised Red Pork

Here are more dishes that we are. You know it's sometimes a bit hard to take photos when there are many people around the table. When the food comes out, all the chopsticks are rushing to it. So I had to quickly snap the photo, so some pictures are really blur. :-(

This is the Beancurd / Beancurd Skin dish.

Heng Hua Dry Bee Hoon. (this is yummylicious!)

Fish, looks and taste quite normal to me.

This is two slabs of braised red pork. So much meat.

Ok, the last installment of Heng Hua Food tomorrow. A bit busy these few days and am on MC yesterday (allergy due to some food? arrghh) So comments are not still not answered.

Heng Hua Food: Deep Fried Century Egg, Sharks Fin, Scallops and Asparagus

Few weeks ago, our family went to have some Heng Hua Food. Heng Hua is a dialect and this is their cooking style. Mum's and aunt's side are Heng Hua.

There is one very famous Heng Hua Restaurant at Serangoon, but for that shop, we needed to wait for more than 1 hour. We were hungry as usual, and just went to the 'other' shop. haha..

We are at Putian Seafood. It's at Kitchener Road.

Update: Here's a photo of the shop.

The only thing different is the deep fried thing you see here. Guess what is it? They are actually deep fried century egg. Very nice.

Sharks Fin is like any Sharks Fin.

This is scallop and Asparagus. Is this Heng Hua? I dunno. It was ordered, we just ate :-)

More tomorrow.

Sushi Tei: Eel, Sashimi and Baby Octopus

These are posts of Japanese food at Sushi Tei at Holland Village. One afternoon, it was lunch time, we were already so hungry but this colleague of ours asked us to wait, we waited for more than half an hour for him to be ready, we almost died of hunger.

When he was ready, he saw us almost semi-unconcious, so he said, get up! I treat you all Jap food. Wah, we were suddenly energised! ok ok. This is a true story, you know which part has been exaggerated. You are all clever people :-)

We ordered some sashimi.

We also took our fav baby octopus from the conveyer belt thingy.

And some unagi sushi. You can see how tasty it is right?

Hmmm someone commented that I should put more photos, so there's 3 today. More to come tomorrow :-)

This is a bit weird. This post is titled Ngor Hiang but you dont really see the Ngor Hiang thingy here. I think we did not order it, but ordered the rest of the items like Sotong, Tau Hu, Fried Chicken Wings and Fried Mar Tee.

I think in Penang its called Lor Bak. In Singapore and Johor, we call it Ngor Hiang.

Update:
Since Tigerfish asked for the Econ Beehoon, here it is:

It's something very very simple, but many people including me just love it. I guess its because it is carbo. haha..

Bukit Timah Food Centre: Carrot Cake

Carrot Cake, if you are from overseas, your definition of carrot cake will be cakes made of those orange carrots right?

Well, if you are in Singapore or Malaysia, mention carrot cake, and this dish will come into mind first. Also known as "Chai Tow Kueh" or "Char Kuey".

They usually have the "white" and "black" version. White version is crispier and savoury. The black version is sweeter because they use dark sauce and it is usually wetter.

I like this version of White Carrot Cake from Bukit Timah Food Centre. It has lots of "chai poh" (pickled salted raddish) and lots of eggs too, which I love....

Oh yes, if you are wondering what carrot is in it? It's the white radish mix with rice flour to produce the cakes. The cakes are then cut up into smaller pieces while frying.

Well, if you wanna DIY at home, you can also buy the radish flour cakes from the supermarkets.

BTW, this is my 100th post on Singapore Daily Makan. Wow, I am amazed with myself! 100 days of food pictures! Hope you have enjoyed it!

If you have been visiting and have not been dropping comments, please drop some these few days, let me know how to improve this site. A few words would be enough! If possible, the next 100 post will be better with your feedback.

My colleague bought us this Pisang Goreng from Toa Payoh's Lucky Pisang Raja. It is suppose to be quite famous and he had to queue for us:-)

It is in fact quite delicious. Crispy outside and moist inside. Yum...

Colleague had to wait till 12 noon exactly, before it opens. You know there are many stalls in Singapore that are so so so straight to the dot and do not budge in their opening time. haha.

Here's how it looks.

Deepavali Sweets: Mithai

OK, I am posting something totally out of the occasion. I know it's not Deepavali. I thought I would dig out something that many of you have not seen before.

Deepavali Sweets. This box was given by a Indian Prof at my workplace. Previous years he gave some which I think was imported from India, they were too sweet for our liking. This box he gave is Singapore-made/company, thus fits into Singapura Daily Makan ;-)

Mithai is Tamil for sweets and snacks. Wikipedia it to know more.

This box came from Bombay Cafe. I have never ate there, but by the looks at its website, it seems like a very expensive place.

This is how it looks like when the box is opened. Yes, they have silver on it! We ate silver! They are called Varak, gossamer-thin silver sheets that covers the Mithai.

The next two close up, for you to see the texture, too bad, we do not have technology that enables you to smell or taste it yet. haha..

Hope that's an eye opener for some of you. The taste? It's actually quite nice!! Very green bean-ish for this box. They are not too sweet as well. Well, the next Deepavali season, go down to Little India and get some. Maybe you got to order it, I guess they would be rather expensive with pure silver that you can eat!

Cold Sauteed Mushroom with Alfafa Sprouts on Cold Tofu.

Tofu...

I have seen a few people posting about Tofu. The most recent is Melting Wok Tofu dish. Rasa Malaysia wrote about her 30 minute meal which featured a tofu dish. Simcooks also has a few Tofu recipes. I thought I shall post one of the tofu dishes that I prepared.

It's Cold Sauteed Mushroom with Alfafa Sprouts on Cold Tofu.

It's something that you can prepare all in advance and just assemble it in 5 mins for a quick meal or a light snack. It's healthy too.

Stuff you need:
1. Tofu that comes in those tubes. I prefer those without eggs for this dish, so it has a lighter taste.
2. Fresh button mushrooms plus other mushrooms that's in season in the supermarkets. Sauteed them your favourite style. For the above, it was sauteed with a mixture of oyster sauce, abalone sauce, maggi chicken stock concentrate, light soy and dark soy. All in small amounts, usually 1/2 to 1 tablesppon each. Plus freshly ground pepper and half a teaspoon of sugar. I also had onions and lots of garlic. After cooking, chill it in the fridge.
3. Alfafa sprouts. (this was for my sandwich) or Dou Miao. Dou Miao goes better.

It's something that's very convenient if you want to eat something light or you want an extra dish if someone suddenly shows up for dinner. Just assemble them and that's it. The tofu can be eaten right from the package.

Enjoy...
