For people who works in NUS or the nearby science parks and research institutes, you can get cheaper food by by visiting the various NUS Canteens. If I am at the Engineering Canteen, my fav store is the Jap stall.

It's called "No Signboard Restaurant" - wu jiao pai.
Maybe that's why you all can't guess, told you the signboards were a decoy. :-p

There's too many photos for one day, so I will split it into two.
Today shall be the Chilli and Pepper Crabs.

While you wait for the food to come up, you eat peanuts! haha..

Heng Ler Seafood @ Havelock Road

Last Sunday after church, we all went with a big group to this place in Havelock Road for lunch. We came here before, I think I took the photos before, but never posted them. The kids that was with us said, did not you take the photos already? haha.. It's located at 725 Havelock Rd, S 169647. Here's how the simple simple shop looks.

There's a lunch time combi that you pay $19.80 for 4 dishes. There's a list of 11 dishes in the list. Since we had so many of us, we took 2 sets, so we ordered 8 diff dishes. Here goes...

While we wait for the dishes, here's the peanuts. Very very simple stuff. But still taste good.

It's a place where you get rice served on these old old bowls.

Fried Egg with Oyster. It's a big giantic super fried egg with lots of crispy corner and oyster. This is delicious!

The usual Steamed Prawns

Sweet and Sour Pork.

Braised Bean Curd

Wrapped Chicken with ginseng. I like this. Actually I like any kind of wrapped chicken :-)

Fried Crayfish in Teochew Style

Steamed Fish. It's actually very big. Look at your keyboard. The plate is about the size of your keyboard.

The Simple Life @ Wheelock Place

You know that getting a place to eat in Wheelock Place is mad during dinner time. However, there's this place called The Simple Life that's relatively empty.

Sis and I, tak boleh tahan, so hungry so we walked in here. If you see a long queue outside, it's for Fish & Co, and not for Simple Life. You can just walk past Fish & Co. and it's the shop that is inside.

My drink Bandung & Kiwi Seed. Interesting eh?

I had Rendang and Rice.

Sis had Bak Kut Teh. It comes also with rice and a super long 'you tiao'.

OK lah. You know somewhere to go on a weekend when every other place needs to queue!
Photos a bit dark, because the place is dark dark kind. haha...

Ayam Penyet @ NUH Kopitiam - Kent Ridge Wing

People do go to hospital not because they are sick, but because they are hungry! haha..

Colleagues and I, we do go to NUH to have food. There are 3 main places to have food in NUH. The NUH Staff Canteen, NUH Kopitiam Foodcourt at the Main Building, NUH Kopitiam Foodcourt at Kent Ridge Wing. Wait! There's another place, but the food is too healthy, and too expensive. Check yourself a room at NUH and you can eat their well balanced nutritional food! haha..

This is the Malay Stall selling Ayam Penyet at the Kent Ridge Wing Kopitiam.
3 of us ordered the same thing because a colleague said it was good. Yes, not bad, except for the accompanying soup which is a tad too salty.

Behind the pieces of chicken are 1 piece of fried tauhu and 1 piece of fried tempeh. The chilli is very very spicy. Even I tak boleh tahan!

By the way, penyet means flattened. Piak! Flat liao...

Aerins @ Raffles City Shopping Centre

Just last week, our friend visited from Melbourne. He was part of our previous makan kakis before he went over to work in Aust.

We got a sms that he is back, so our we met here. He said "oh man... why eat in a Western place, I want to eat all the local food!"

Anyway, majority rules, this is democratic country right? We have not been here, so we just eat here lah. Quite a nice place actually, especially with the company of old friends.

The above is a pic of the menu.

This is Southern Grilled Chicken, it has a 'must try' in the menu. $10.50
Cajun spiced grilled chicken on guacamole spread, mango chutney on wholemeal bread.
(psst, I think this looks absolutely delicious!!!)

This is Cajun Grilled Chicken, which also had a 'must try' in the menu. Friend sitting in front of me ordered it. $19.00

The ladies at the other end ordered this. Arien's Tagliatelle.
Tagliatelle with mushroom ragout in light cream sauce, smoked salmon and roe. $21.

Those on the left ordered this. Linguine Marinara.
Linguine with bay prawns, squid and mussels cooked in tomato sauce. $21.

Me? This is what I ordered. Baked Apple & Rhubarb Pie.
Pot of oven baked granny smith apples, rhubarb and raisins, all covered in an oven-baked puff pastry, served with vanilla ice cream. $11

This one I can tell you the taste. It's absolutely yummy. It has a (15 mins wait) on the menu, so it was truly worth the wait.

Found out they have a website, http://www.aerins.com.sg
We have brought to you all the 'must try' in the menu. haha...

Bak Kut Teh @ Balestier Road Coffee Shop

Wah! Someone actually got the quiz yesterday right! Must be a regular there I suppose :-)

Come to this stall if you like very peppery, or super peppery style. If you like more herbal style like me, you might want to give this a miss. haha... But it was still quite nice.

We were sitting beside the kettle of hot boiling water, so we were feeling hot! Then near to us is the stall holder preparing our food.

We had individual portions. Each one had a bowl of pork ribs and the soup is being refilled as we finish it up.

I love kiam chai, and this is the kiam chai that comes with it.

For others, "you tiao" is a must. So the person who says is a must ordered it. (psstt I only like you tiao in rojak! :-p )

We are decocratic when we go out to eat. Another colleague said, must eat with Pig's Trotter, so we also ordered a bowl of this to share.

So, do you and your colleague go around and eat? Do you order food like we do? Democratic decision?

Dulukala - Peranakan Food @ Beauty World Centre

Yes, Veron's correct. It's Peranakan Food.
Dulukala is on the top floor of Beauty World Centre, and we occasionally go there.

Many people do not like Ladies Fingers (or known in some places as Okra) because it is slimy slimy. Well, if you eat this here, it is dry and not at all slimy.

This is Chincalok Egg. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for those who likes Chincalok, this is yummy!

This is how it looks inside, after putting a piece of it on my plate of white rice.

This is Beef Rendang. It's good. Just nice and tender, and I love it!

So busy eating the above, and forgot to take the soup! My bowl of soup had only the meatball left. So I took two pictures, you use your imagination to combine them up! haha..

Hmmm this soup, it reminds me of instant noodles chicken flavour soup though. hahaha... Koka brand ones!

Bon Appetit!
