Commonwealth Crescant Fei Zai Eatery @ Holland Village Food Centre

This is my colleague, Wire's recommendation. He seems to like the Braised Beef Noodles at this stall at the Holland Village Food Centre.

So, we took a quick bus ride to have this. All five of us at the same thing. 3 with noodles, and 2 with kuey teow.

It seems that eateries with the name "Fei Zai" always do better? LOL...

Commonwealth Crescant Fei Zai Eatery @ Holland Village Food Centre

Beef was tender and there is at least one piece with beef fats for those who like it.

Braised Beef Noodles

I had the kuey teow version. It's not very salty. (for my bowl) So I thought it was kind of a healthy dish.

Braised Beef Kuey Teow

It's food centre pricing. $4.

Zhou's Kitchen @ Anchorpoint

Last month, I posted a similar 'pig out' at Zhou's Kitchen. That was for cousin's birthday. This time it's aunt's birthday and she wants to go back there.

This time however we are trying from another branch of Zhou's Kitchen, the Anchorpoint branch.

Here's an aerial view of the delicious food we had. The 10 of us ate so much. We were being filled, filled till we want no more!

Buffet Hi Tea at Zhou's Kitchen

Shall not make this too long. There are just too many photos when you eat a buffet. Just posting some photos of the food that we particularly liked.

The keropok of course! With the sweet chilli sauce.

Keropok

The century egg pickled dish. We sure had many portions of this.

Century Egg Pickle

This was another favourite, we like the garlicy taste of it. The sauce and the pork slices just is so appetizing.

Garlic White Pork Slices

The Ngor Hiong and the sweet chilli sauce.

Ngo Hiong

The Char Siu Pow is nice. So is this Char Siu Sou.

Char Siu Sou

These mini egg tarts are a real hit! The little ones sure like it a lot!

Mini Egg Tarts

I like French Beans, so of course I'll say it's nice.

Fried French Beans

I am not a fan of this, but many people on the table liked it. Ku Chai Pastry. I think Ku Chai is a very acquired taste!

Ku Chai Pastry

Many liked the cold meats too. This is the sliced cold beef. The drunken chicken was not too bad too.

Cold Meat

If you have more than 6 eating, you get this crab.

Steamed Crab

For dessert, this was once hot favourite. Peanut Tang Yuan.
We also loved the mango and guiling gao dessert.

Peanut Tang Yuan

There seems to be many buffets going around. Eat in moderation!
Happy Birthday Aunt!

Spice Junction - The taste of Kerala @ Race Course Road

For lunch today, we were thinking of just going to the canteen to have a quick bite. But when we got downstairs, someone suggested why not go for Indian food today? Race Course Road? Sure! With a loud resounding "kia! mai tu liao". (yes, don't waste time, let's go)

(We are not in the company of colleagues who dislike food with lots of spices today. )

So we hop on a cab to get to Race Course Road. A colleague recommend that we should try this place that has very nice Biriyani. He came before and thinks that the rest of us should try it. So we head off to Spice Junction. Apparently, this place is opened by an IT guy, a hardcore programmer!

For drinks, 1 of us had the tea, another the masala tea. Dpuk saw on the menu - "Sambharam : Traditional Drink for Hot Summer." Being adventurous, he decided to order it.

The fun starts when this drink came. We discoverd it's an acquired taste. He just could not finish it, and the rest of us also can't take it when we tried it. It tasted like white curry sauce! (pardon us, those who love this, it's just us.).

When we came back to the office, we did an online search and found the ingredients. It has curry leaves, coriander, mint, salt, lemongrass. See, we were kinda right that it tasted like curry sauce. You all should try it. Maybe there's some who might like it. We are glad we tried it though, to get the experience.

Sambharam

This similar looking drink is the usual Sweet Lassi.
There's also the Salty Lassi if you like it. ;-)

Sweet Lassi

We saw this dish on the menu: Mutton Ishtew. Sounds interesting and the description was "The Traditional Stew Dish Of Syrian Christian Families Of Kerala". Someone the name just stands out, so we thought we should try it.

It's quite nice. If you don't like mutton because of the smell, you can take this. It has no strong mutton smell.

Mutton Ishtew

We were told when we ordered the Mutton Ishtew, we should eat it with Appam. So we ordered the Appams and they were lovely. We had one each.

Appam

Now, how many Indian places do you know that serves beef? Very rare right? This one does.
The "Beef Fry: is delicious. Yes, goes well with the Appam. :-)

Beef Fry

Now, the reason we are here is to try their Biriyani.
This is the Malabar Mutton Biriyani.

Malabar Mutton Biriyani

We agreed with 'wire' that brought us here that it is quite nice. The basmati were lovely. There's a whole egg buried inside, and the mutton was tender and flavourful.

Malabar Mutton Biriyani

We also had the Malabar Chicken Biriyani.

Malabar Chicken Biriyani

Also a whole egg buried in it. Ours was a chicken drumstick inside. Fragrant indeed.

Warning though, remember it's called Spice Junction, so you get lots of spices inside. If you dont like fennel seeds, black peppercorns, take them out first, they are generous with it.

Malabar Chicken Biriyani

Check out their other menu at http://www.spicejunction.com.sg/ if you want.

The whole Race Course Road is filled with delicious Indian Food. We are wondering if we should come back here to try the rest of the food, or go hopping to the other stalls. Hmmm...

Island Cafe @ Tangs

This was eaten last Saturday evening. After our french lunch and chicken rice, Momo and I was just too full to eat, but as a nice brother, we decided to call sis and asked if needed company for dinner. (although we had no intention of having dinner)

Sis said, if you wanna keep me company, you are most welcome to. So we did. We went to Tangs to meet her, and the girls just happily walked and shopped. For me, I did my usual walk at their Technology Bay. Seem that there has been some drastic reduction in the things they sell there. So empty! What happened?

The sales people at Tangs are always very nice. I was looking at something and the man said, if you are not in a hurry, come back on Wednesday or Thursday. There's gonna be a 12% off for card members. I don't know why, when the man said that, it just makes you makes you really happy that you shop in Tangs. Why ah?

After sis and momo are done with their looking around and shopping, sis said she is too tired to walk around, let's just eat upstairs.

Island Cafe upstairs is always a nice place to go. So quiet, so dim and relaxing and it has a great view. Now with ION Orchard coming up, you can see the bright changing neon lights when you sit facing the windows. Somehow Orchard Road has moved up the ranks of Tokyo or New York with the bright lights!

Sis wanted something soupy, so she had the Beef Noodles. The Beef Noodles is not too bad, not the usual taste that you get though.

Beef Noodles

Momo wanted something light, and ordered the Stuffed Beancurd. Oh, we forgot the portions here are big. So here's the big plate of stuffed beancurd to finish!

Stuffed Beancurd

I ordered the Ice Kachang. I think the ice kachang's meant for 2 persons. It's a huge bowl.
I kinda liked it. A little sweet but it's meant to be sweet right?

I spotted barley in it. You seldom get barley in ice kachang and it was a nice bite.

Ice Kachang

Nice place to rest your feet after walking around Tangs. Oh, you can pay your meals here with the rebates in your Tangs credit card.

Oh ya, it's Wednesday today. Today and tomorrow's when Tangs is having the 12% off sale. :-)
I wonder if we get 12% for meals?

Chin Chin Hainanese Chicken Rice @ Purvis St

Right after having our french meal (from yesterday's post) at the Bloggers Lunch, a few of us continued a few shops down the road for more food.

The few of us who are the gluttons/bottomless pit/hungry ones/whatever you want to call us are Recentrunes, BlackTieWhiteLie, Camemberu, HungryCow, Momo and myself.

We decided to have Riz au Poulet, so we went to one of the famous Riz au Poulet shop down the street. We went in and ordered a half "noir" and half "blanc". The auntie took our orders and in the typical placing of order style, repeated our order by shouting out loud. She shouted "Or Pek Ji Jiak".

Hang on, that sounds as if we wanted one roast chicken and one white chicken. "Auntie, auntie, wo3 men2 yao4 de4 shi4 yi4 zhi4 ji1, bu2 shi4 niang2 zhi1" (we want one chicken, not two)

The auntie said the way she put in our order was correct. You think I don't know French meh? Gunther's only few doors away, so near only, we eat there too lah. We eat until we can read their menu and speak French liao. You all want one chicken, half roasted, and half white 'tio boh'? **we were impressed**

Half Half - Half Roast, Half White

Chicken's not too bad. I think I preferred the Roast Chicken.
(Personally, I think I like the 5 star chicken rice than here. :-p)

Half Half - Half Roast, Half White

We also had a sambal fan su ye.

Sambal Fan Su Ye

This dish was quite amazing. It's mutton claypot stew and there's totally no mutton smell in it! You should try it too.

Mutton Claypot Stew

This place and the place opposite (also selling chicken rice) are rivals. You can do an online search and read about how some people insists this side is nicer, and others insists the other side is nice.

It sure was a fun day out. Eating, chit chatting, laughing with new friends and old friends.

p/s The part of us ordering in French only existed in my dreams. Paragraphs 3 to 5 are purely imaginary. :-)

He Sheng Mei Shi @ Dover Food Centre

This was lunch last week with colleagues. We went over to Dover Food Centre and on the way there, someone suggested sharing zhi char, and so we did. We were quite 'sian' (tired) of thinking what to eat. We ate at He Sheng Mei Shi because it's one of our colleague, 'old cat's' favourite place.

He Sheng Mei Shi @ Dover

As usual, someone will ask a few person to 'name a dish' / 'order a dish', so here's what we ended up with.

Sweet and Sour Pork.

Sweet and Sour Pork

Sambal Fan Su Ye.
This young shoots are really nice.

Fan Su Ye

Instead of having whole fish, not everyone fancy the bones, so we had fish slices instead.

Fish Slice

This really crispy and light prawn paste chicken was quite nice.

Prawn Paste Fried Chicken

This claypot tofu dish was ok except it should have had more gravy.

Claypot Tofu

Eating these kind of dishes, of course we have to go with rice. ;-)

Good ol rice

We were quite surprised that it was only $49 for the above.

Last Monday afternoon, I took half day off so that I could join a few food bloggers for a burger outing. It's always fun to meet the people behind the blogs ;-)

The floggers I met: LadyIronChef, AromaCookery, TheHungryCow, BlackTieWhiteLie , Evan's Kitchen Ramblings.

We had burger at Relish by Wild Rocket. What a cute sign they had downstairs.

Relish @ Cluny Court

You can just imagine, when the food's on the table, all the cameras snap on the food non stop.

The Burgers....

Some takes a few seconds to snap photos, some other perfectionist must get the perfect shot. So while waiting, you can see the chips on the plate start disappearing. lol...

The more orderly burgers

Now, let's show you the burgers that we had:

The Wild Rocket Beef Burger.
with arugula (rockets), sarawak pepper cream & sun dried tomato relish.

Tai Seng Noodle House @ Amoy Street Food Centre

This was lunch last Saturday afternoon with some friends at Amoy Street Food Centre.
Wondering what to eat, we saw this plate of noodles on a friend's table. Looked really tempting ya?

Char Siu & Wonton Noodles

So I decided to have this noodle. I went to look for the stall and realise that Momo was also queuing for food from this stall.

Tai Seng Noodle House

So my order was added to Momo's order and here's what we had.

Momo had the pork ribs noodles.

Pork Rib Noodles

I had the char siu noodles. The fried wantons (very nice) are standard in all the orders. You choose the other meat, char siu, pork rib, or whatever you fancy.

Char Siu & Wonton Noodles

Oh ya, the wanton soup is also standard. Quite delicious. There's quite a lot of wantons inside too!

Lao Beijing @ Plaza Singapura

One of our cousin (yes, we have lots of cousins!) did us very very proud. He got the 'calling' and decided to obey the 'call' and went to Trinity Theological College to do his Master of Divinity.

We met up with his parents (our sar chek and sar chim) and the usual uncle and aunt that we eat with, for dinner last Saturday. We had dinner at Lao Beijing and here's what we had.

I always like szechuan veg, so this is always my favourite. Spicy, salty, sweet all in one.
(ya, I know many of you all hate this. haha... )

Pickled Szechuan vegetables.

We had the 8 treasure tea. Ba Bao Cha. Always so fragrant and nice. (until your 5th refill and the flavour's all gone. LOL....)

8 Teasure Tea / Ba Bao Cha

Showing the rice because my hands were itchy and I took some of the rice photos. LOL...

Rice..

Fried Venison with White Honshimeiji Mushrooms.
Most of us liked it, but a few of us found it a bit heavy on the sodium side.

Fried Venison with White Honshimeiji Mushrooms

The Peking Duck.
It is always fun 'playing with food' if you are having Peking Duck.

Traditional Roast Peking Duck

Everyone likes different things when wrapping the Peking Duck Wraps. Some only like meat, some lots of everything. Some likes only skin! We just look at each other wrap their own pretty and their own ugly looking wraps. Offering each other what they have wrapped. LOL

Traditional Roast Peking Duck

With so many of us, we had two steamers of the Xiao Long Bao.
(Not sure if it's only me, but I think the XLB here is not that nice, it's ok only)

Xiao Long Bao

Now, this dish takes skill. It's called the Amazing Braised Pork Roll. (lol... yes laugh if you need to) So, what's so amazing? It's made of one long piece of meat. It's called Yi Dao Rou in Chinese. Hidden below the pyramid is 'mei cai'.

Amazing Braised Pork Roll (Yi Dao Rou)

You eat it with these pretty clam shaped buns.

Amazing Braised Pork Roll

Does it look like an oyster that's being stuffed with too much meat?
It's unique but we noticed the mei cai is full of the stem part, we like the leafy part of mei cai. Maybe because grandma used to cook it that way for us. :-)

Amazing Braised Pork Roll (金牌一刀肉)

Braised Spinach Bean Curd.

Braised Spinach Beancurd

We had also Asparagus with Lily bulb. Somehow the photos are missing. I wonder if I was too busy chatting and eating that I forgot to take them.

The next dish is a spicy spicy fish dish. Not very sure of the name, I think I remembered aunt saying it was Ma La Fish. The fish was divided into smaller portions for us by the servers. Here is the fish head. Grrr.... Bite Me!

Mala Fish

My bowl of fish. It was spicy but it was kinda nice though.

Mala Fish

For desserts, I only took photo of the chilled mango & pomelo with sago dessert that I was having. The rest too far away.

Chilled Mango & Pomelo with Sago

Not sure of the prices of the individual dishes. It was approx $300 for the 9 of us.
If you pay using UOB card, you get a $30 voucher for every $150 spent. So aunt will be coming back for Hi-Tea with her friends one of these days with her vouchers. :-)

It was a nice dinner we had with our relatives. We have not met up since Chinese New Year! We are also proud of our cousin who will be more equip to serve the Lord now.

Cousin's birthday dinner @ Aunt's place

Yesterday we celebrated our cousin Christine's birthday.
We had it at Uncle and Aunt's place and aunt prepared the following for us!

Steamed Kampung Chicken with garlic sauce.
Doesn't it just look so delicious?

Steamed Kampung Chicken

Sambal Sotong and Prawns.
It's so so pedas! This batch of sambal that was prepared seems to be extremely spicy!

(Do you all have your own containers of prepared home made sambal that can be used to whip up a quick sambal something dish?)

Sambal Sotong and Prawn

Satay Chicken.
Aunt's experimenting, it's nice, but next time she's going to fine tune it more. Maybe less chilli padi. :-)

Satay Chicken

Xiao Bai Cai with garlic.

Xiao Bai Cai

Christine's daughter love this. So aunt steamed this for her.
We like it too. LOL...

Steamed Pomfret

We have not had this soup for sometime.
Bitter Gourd Soup. It's to "jiak liang".

Bittergourd Soup

Sis and I brought desserts and cakes. We got these strawberries from Cold Storage.
Huge ones with long stems.

Giant Strawberries

And a fruit geteau from Bengawan Solo as the birthday cake.
Someone put extra strawberry on top! How do you cut cakes with chocolate spikes on the side? Remove them lah.... :-)

Happy Birthday Christine!
Our Lord continue to bless you most bountifully!

Chako @ Hong Leong Garden (Part II)

Here's Part II of the Chako lunch we had.

The place is not very big, the kitchen is just behind these 'curtains'. When you step in, it's like stepping into some old traditional Japanese place.

Chako Counter

Anyway, back to what we ate.
Here's the Oden $16 that we shared. We all find it quite nice. The yellow mustard that goes with it really gives it a kick!

ODEN

Dpuk had the Chicken Katsu Ju Set. $16.
Bread-crumbed deep-fried chicken fillet placed on a bed of rice, topped with egg and onion gravy

(the rest of the set items has been shown yesterday)
Normally the fried chicken is on top of the eggs right? Here it is hidden below.

CHICKEN KATSU JU

Pirate had Unatamaju Set. $22.
Broiled eel in our home-made sauce served on bed of egg-topped rice.

UNATAMAJU

Pirate said you got to try it, it's broiled and it's really really soft inside, and he cut a piece of it for all of us to try. (if you like eel and like it soft, you should try this. we loved it)

UNATAMAJU

JSFR had pre-ordered Zoni Set. $18
It's claypot soup with chicken, vegetables, mushroom and glutinous rice cake. JSFR really liked the glutinous rice cakes in it. It's really soft and when she's eating, all of us were looking at her eat. (Well, it's because her was the last to arrive, so most of us finished our meal. LOL)

Zoni

We were already quite full but somehow we wanted the dessert. The desserts we have below had to be pre-ordered.

The custard pudding served in caramel sauce. $6.50
We had two of this. Some of us like it, some preferred the next dessert. We concluded those who did not like burnt sugar taste, ie caramel did not liked it. LOL..

Custard Pudding with Caramel Sauce

The green tea pudding served with azuki. $6.50
Now, the one who did not like the above adored this. It was so cold and refreshing. The azuki makes it nicer too. (haha.. you can tell which dessert I liked).

Just as we were eating this, I thought I heard a familiar voice. Dr ieatishootipost.sg walked in to have lunch too.

Green Tea Pudding served with Azuki

Oh, there's a photo of President Nathan and wife's and the the proprietress family in the shop too! ;-)

So so full, we had problems trying to stay awake to work after lunch. LOL...

Chako @ Hong Leong Garden (Part I)

Our colleague 'pirate' has been telling us about this place that he has been going. It's a small little Japanese place at Hong Leong Garden. He has been there so often, we realise that he is on first name terms with proprietress and her daughter. LOL...

He even got a softcopy of the menu of the place and emailed to us last week. He planned for us to go today, so for the whole week, we tried to rush as much work as possible so that we can have a longer long time today.

Why longer hour? Because the proprietress Mdm Hisako Okugawa makes the dishes only when you order and she does it with so much care and passion. Definitely not a rush job. (We had to wait quite a while haha)

Restaurant Chako

Three hour before lunch time today, 'pirate' yahoo messenger us, telling us that to save time, we can choose what we want to eat first (from the menu he sent us last week), he can then sms our orders to the shop. So we did.

I pre-0rdered the Chako Set. $19.
Grilled mackerel served with a piece of bite-sized bread-crumbed deep-fried chicken & cuttlefish, salad, vinaigrette/vegetable side, stewed dish of the day, cold beancurd, rice, miso soup, pickled radish and fruits.

Chako Set

The Grilled mackerel. We had two of us ordering this and both of us thought it is one of the nicer grilled mackerel around.

Grilled mackerel

The piece of bite-sized bread-crumbed deep-fried chicken & cuttlefish.

bite-sized bread-crumbed deep-fried chicken & cuttlefish

The salad, vinaigrette/vegetable side. I kinda like their little bit of mash potato.

salad, vinaigrette/vegetable side, pickled radish

Think this is the stew dish of the day. It's like popiah fillings. :-) Quite nice.

chako10

The following are the set items. (ie, if you convert your items into a set, you get the following).
The miso soup with clams inside. Pirate told us, he prefers the soup at night, it is thicker and saltier. haha...

Miso Soup

The cold beancurd.
(we are suppose to pour our own soy over it)

Cold Beancurd

You know why it takes a long time? Look! We realise everyone's pickles were so neatly arranged and stacked! haha...

Pickled Radish

The glittering and soft short grain rice.

Rice

Pirate told us the proprietress has recently lowered the prices because many of her customers are students from the school nearby. We wonder how pirate gets to know all these details. LOL...

Too many photos for one post, I shall post the rest tomorrow.

Surabaya Cuisine @ friend's house.

We got invited to a friend's (we shall call him DG) house to have Surabaya food. For Mother's Day, DG and his wife flew back to Surabaya to be with his mum. It is very convenient now with direct flight from Changi to Surabaya on ValuAir. (costing around $200 only)

So when he was coming back, he brought back some delicacies for us to try as well.

We thought this is ketupat, but it's not. It's called Buras.
It's similar to ketupat but has coconut milk in it.

Buras

It looks very brown when it's together, but when you untie it, the leaves is greenish.

Buras

Here's how it looked. Buras in all its splendour. The texture is not as hard and dry as ketupat, it's more sticky and soft.

Our dear DG did not prepare this, he just bought it from his favourite stall in Surabaya.

Buras

But he did cook this. It's called Rawon. It's a Surabaya version of Beef Stew. Our friend have to prepare this a day in advance, and it has I think 14 different spices in it.

Rawon

Here is the dish assembled. Quite nice!
There's suppose to be fried shallots on it, but I forgot to take a photo of it. I started eating and forgot about taking photos. :-)

Buras & Rawon

Here's Bakwan to go with the meal.
We also had a vegetable dish, snow peas as well as lots of keropok. ;-)

Bakwan

Thanks DG for inviting us over for dinner. First time having Surabaya cuisine. ;-)

Malay Mixed Rice @ NUS Engineering Canteen

Another case of following the herd.

Colleagues and I took a shuttle bus to the Engineering Canteen and everyone was wondering what to eat, one person started to queue for the Malay food, another follow suit. Yet another, and guess what? My legs brought me there too. LOL.

We ended up eating almost the same thing too! The tempting fried chicken drumstick was crying out, save us from the tray. We don't like to be displayed here. Order us, order us!

It has really crispy skin, the meat was ok, a little more frying and it will be too dry.

Crispy Skin Drumsticks

Had ladies fingers, and cabbage to go with it. Topped with fish curry. (the fish curry's very nice, should have asked for more. haha)

The usual 2 veg and 1 meat for $2.20.

Ladies Finger and Cabbage

Paid using the EZ Link card because they did not have coins for change.
EZ Link's quite convenient eh?

Time to eat at the NUS Canteens again, because the students have finished their exams and are not coming into campus again. ;-)

Amici Authentic Italian Restaurant @ Holland Village

This was a Mother's Day lunch we had at Amici at Holland Village. It was our treat to our aunt for cooking and taking care of us.

It took sis and I over a week to think of a place to go. We settled on Italian because we found the subscription card on a shelf when we were cleaning up our house. Sis bought it because it looked like a good deal. They guy who came knocking on our house also tried very hard. LOL.

So, we placed a booking for 6 on Sunday afternoon after church.

I wonder why, but we always seem to get into this shop by their back door. LOL...

Amici Authentic Italian Restaurant

We started by having 2 servings of Bruschetta al Pomodoro e Basilco.
2 servings so we get 6 pieces of it. ($9.80 for 2 sets)
Kinda delicious with its slightly browned toast.

Bruschetta

We also had calamari. $12.90
They were good that it was gone in a few seconds. They were so soft and tender inside.

Calamari

We thought soup was boring when the menu said Seafood Soup. We only ordered a bowl for aunt because our cousin wanted to share with her. But when it came, we tasted a bit and liked it and placed another order.

The soup was in a big deep plate. It had calamari, mussel and a big prawn in it. To describe the taste, if you know good chinese 'hae mee' soup, this has the great smell and taste of it, the only difference is that this is tomato based.

Seafood Soup

This is what our cousin had: Ossobuco. $39.90 It's braised tender veal knuckle served with saffron risotto. The lady taking our order asked if our cousin wanted the risotto al-dente, but suggested immediately that she most probably would like it fully cooked. :-) She was right.

Ossobuco

Sis had Tagliata Firenze. $32.90
Sliced tender beef in balsamico and olive oil topped with fresh parmesan cheese and rocquette salad. We thought that it was very nice.

Tagliata Firenze

I had the Prime Rib. $32.90
(Lomabata Di Bue Arrosto) Pan baked OP prime rib with Tri Pepper sauce.

Prime Rib

It's a huge piece of meat! The pepper sauce was quite nice.

Prime Rib

Uncle had the rack of lamb - Lombata D'Agnello Alla Griglia ($35.90)
Shallow fried rack of lamb in rosemary juice. Uncle liked it because he likes lamb. The rest of us, are just not lamb fans.

Rack of Lamb

Momo had Grigliata di Manzo $33.90.
Grilled beef tenderloin with summer truffles in Madeira sauce.

Beef Truffles

I think Momo's meat is nicer than my rib. Sis and Momo thinks so too. :-)

Beef Truffles

All of us were served our food, but aunt's main dish is not out yet.
Now, what they did impressed us. They were very apologetic that aunt's fish was taking longer than usual to be served, they served her a plate of mozzarella toast on the house.

Mozzzarella

When the rest of us finished our food, aunt's Sole Fish with lemon sauce ($28.90) finally arrived.
Aunt having tasted all our food said, the fish is a bit big, and offered bits of it to all 5 of us. We thought the sole was delicious.

It does not look nice because I realise I can't take fish photos. But sis said she might come back to try this fish again. LOL...

Sole Fish

We had 3 desserts after. Too many photo on this post already, so skipping it for the time being.
It was a nice lunch we had.

The most handsome cze char??

I am tired, arms and legs are aching after re-started kick boxing classes again today. So I shall rest and do a quick post today.

Look at the awning's that below the neon lights.
It says: the most handsome cze char restaurant in Singapore.

The most handsome cze char in Singapore

OK.. It's all right to laugh. Go on....

We saw a big banner that says $18 crabs. One of these days, think we shall go there and visit the crabs and also to find out why they call themselves the most handsome restaurant. LOL...

Photo taken behind the windscreen and the car was moving, so a bit blur...

Megabites @ NUS Science Canteen

This was lunch a few colleagues and I had at Megabites at the NUS Science Canteen two days ago.

While looking at the menu and deciding what to eat, I realised that everyone in the queue was ordering Set A - Chicken Chop. ($3.80)

I have never ordered this before and I wondered why my colleagues are all ordering it? When it was my turn to place an order, I suddenly said Chicken Chop set. LOL.. Why did I say that? I don't know.... Talking about peer pressure!

I know why people like eating this now. It was quite delicious! Chicken's tender and a little crispy and salty. For people who needs carbo, they give you some rice and also mash potato.

I think the number one reason that made it so nice was sauce on it.
**wonders what they put inside that makes you want to lick the sauce off the plate.**

Chicken Chop Set - Rice, Whip Potato, Chicken Chop, Carrots and Cauliflower

Oh, the mushroom soup this time was blech!
Too watery and quite tasteless. It was not like this the last time.

YakiyakiBo Teppanyaki @ Jurong Point

Yesterday I mentioned a quick dinner. It was but we took a bit longer than we wanted and was late! LOL...

Do you realise that when you go out with a group of people, you get people who don't like this and that. We wanted to go to the Ramen shop, but someone did not like ramen. So we ended up at Yakiyakibo. (What a name!)

I think it's only me that eats anything and everywhere! LOL...

YakiyakiBo

I usually do not like Teppanyaki only for 1 reason. Our clothes stink after eating. But at this place, they put on a huge paper apron / bib on you. It covers your neck all the way to your knees.

Kind of reminds me of this place where you have giant ribs in Sydney called Hurricane's. They have huge bibs too.

Anyway, the 4 of us chose set meals : the Okonomiyaki, Seafood, Sirloin Steak and Wagyu set. The sets came with Salad, Chawanmushi or Tofu, Miso Soup, Fried Beansprouts, Rice (plain, garlic or tamago), the mains and a dessert. Prices was between I think $12 to $18?

Here's some of the 'entertainment' photos.

The making of the chawanmushi in the onion cup.

Chawanmushi

Pour in the egg mix...

Chawanmushi

Steamed inside for a few minutes...

Chawanmushi

You get your chawanmushi.
(Personally, I think I prefer the usual ones in cups in other places. those are smoother and have more ingredients)

Chawanmushi

The preparation of the tamago rice. Garlic, carrots and an egg.

Tamago Rice

Mix with rice and the person performs the 'dance'.

Tamago Rice

Do come chops too...

Tamago Rice

The rice is ready!

Tamago Rice

This is my order, the Wagyu Beef Set.

Wagyu

Wagyu

Wagyu

Tada, they serve the meat on a slice of buttered bread that's left on the hot pan.
The bread kind of absorb the oil and also the extra sauce.

Wagyu

This is the Calamari..

Calamari

And the Sirloin Steak set.
If you are wondering, the sirlion is the most expensive, I think it's because you get more meat ;-) (compared to the wagyu)

Sirlion Steak

And the bean sprouts. Do the teppanyaki dance and it gets transformed....

Beansprouts

Transformed to this...
It somehow lack something...

The Icing Room @ Jurong Point (New wing)

I feel like a 'suaku' again yesterday. After Jurong Point has been refurbished for so long, it's the first time I stepped foot in. The place looks so nice! Very high ceiling etc...

Our CG was here to quickly grab a bite and then buy a cake and visit our ex-leader who's now serving as a ministry staff in another church. We were here to visit his new house and also to visit his new born baby.

Boon Lay is so far away, most of us will know it as the end of Singapore. Good thing we had a friend who drove the group of us there. He told us that he calls Jurong East the Wild West of Singapore. But when you reach Boon Lay, it's the Wild Wild West. (So what is Joo Koon? haha..)

We got angpow for the baby (most practical gift right?). We thought we should also celebrate the baby father's birthday which is in 2 weeks. So we went to hunt for a cake. We saw this new shop at Jurong Point - The Icing Room.

We saw everyone's decorating their own cakes. None of us are interested in decorating cakes. We were also in a rush so we opted for a ready made/decorated cake.

The Icing Room

Here's the cake we bought and ate in the new house. :-)
Quite yummy.

The Icing Room

When I went home, I did an online search and realise it's another new venture of the Breadtalk group.

The Icing Room

Nice place if you want to get a really personalised cake. You get an 'empty' cake and you can start decorating it. Visit their website if you want to find out more.

Fellow food blogger has an entry on it too. You can read LadyIronChef's post on it.

When you buy your cakes here, bring enough cash. It's cash only. They do not accept credit cards, not even NETS.

Cafe on the Ridge @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House

This is today's lunch that I had with my colleagues. The only lunch this week that's not eaten in 10 mins, and rushed back to work.

We went to Cafe on the Ridge at the NUSS (NUS Society) Kent Ridge Guildhouse.

Cafe on the Ridge, NUSS Kent Ridge Guildhouse

Before we came in, most of us had Nasi Goreng in our mind. It seems most of us just come here for Nasi Goreng. Why? Because we think it's the most value for money and they serve it almost instantly.

But when we got the nice green menu (above photo), everyone changed their mind and decide they would eat something else and said, they can give me more photo opp. LOL....

DP had the Curry Chicken Set. The curry looks good ya! $8

Curry Chicken Set

'Old Cat' decided to stick to what he came here for. The Nasi Goreng. $8.50
I still think it looks and smells and taste good.

Nasi Goreng

Look at the fried chicken and the rendang closeup. It's so tempting ya?

Nasi Goreng - the Ayam Goreng and rendang closeup

ZS had the Aglio Olio. It looks good ya, the prawns and scallops that comes with it. $15

Aglio Olio

JSFR had Graduate Club Sandwich. Triple layer sandwich with quite a lot of meat, salad and crisps on the side. $8.50

Graduate Club Sandwich

I had the Chicken Rice. $8
OK lah. But I think I should stick to Nasi Goreng next time to be even more satisfied. LOL...

Birds Eye view of the Chicken Rice

I was asked if I wanted chicken thigh or the breast meat. I opted for the thigh.
They removed the bones.

The Chicken

The rice... for today I felt that I need to be a 'fan tong'. hehe..
(I am sure for many of you, on some days, you just feel like having a bowl of fragrant rice right?)

The chicken Rice...

ZS paid for our lunch. Thanks!

Buddy Hoagies @ Bukit Timah Shopping Centre

I had arranged with sis to meet at Spice Peranakan to have some nyonya food and then to get some feet rugs for our home, after dinner next door at Beauty World. (I think the top floor of Beauty World is the cheapest place you can get nice rugs for your home. 5 pieces for $10!)

When we got there, we realised Spice Peranakan is closed today. We also saw a note that they will be moving away too! The notice says their last day at Bukit Timah SC will be on the 10th May and they will be moving to 20 Biopolis Way. It's moving to a bigger place!

(But I wonder if they know that all the restaurants at Biopolis and Fusionopolis do not have people going in at night!)

Since it's closed we walked a few shops away to Buddy Hoagies. It's been a long time since we came here too. We saw the dinner specials and we just ordered it.

Dinner Specials @ Buddy Hoagies

Sis had the mushroom soup. She liked it.

Mushroom Soup

I had the minestrone soup. Quite tasty and thick.

Minestrone

This is just simple bread, but it's quite tasty. Crispy outside and very soft inside.

Garlic Bread

Sis had the baked fish.

Baked Fish

Sis said she like the baked potato. Nice and hot with a scoop of butter that melts away in about a minute and a half.

Baked Potato with butter

I had the Chicken Tips. I asked what are chicken tips?
It's chicken strips that has been cut into pieces and sauteed with mushrooms.
I think it's not too bad. I like mushrooms!

Chicken Tips

My baked potato. ;-)

Baked Potato with butter

OK, for those who asked for the prices, I managed to take a photo of the receipt before I threw it away this time. ;-)

$21.80

Was quite surprised that on a Tuesday night, this place is more than half occupied.

Pork Chop Rice (Tapow) @ Top Seafood

The Swines were wrongly accused and they were really sad. For most of us, we believed in the pigs and we still ate them. Nothing happened to us.

Now, the truth is out, the swines have been maligned. Pigs are safe to eat! To apologise, the flu has been renamed Influenza A (H1N1-2009) now. What a mouthful the name is now.

So pork eaters rejoice. Do you know Pork Eaters have been given a name, and Nic from KHKL calls us Babitarians. Nice name eh?

Talking about pork, so you can guess my dinner is Pork.

--------------------------

This is my dinner tonite. Came home late, it was around 10 pm and I 'tapowed' pork chop rice home to eat. This was my brother's favourite dish when he was working in Singapore. I wonder if he can get this easily now that he's in UK. Lol.. Hey bro, miss us (and your fav pork chop) or not?

Usually it has 4 or 5 pieces of meat. You see only 3 here, 2 more hidden below. $4.50
Quite reasonable ya?

Bought it from Top Seafood which is a Zhi Char at Blk 18 Coffee Shop at Toh Yi Drive. They have a branch at Sixth Avenue and Bukit Batok too.

Burger King @ IMM

This was last night's dinner. Sis and I rushed to IMM from our home because we needed to get something before the shops closes.

We got up the cab and cab driver asked which way, as usual we say to the driver: "You know best, you choose the route". Most cab drivers will go another way, and when this driver took another route, sis and I look at each other, (as if we go could communicate via the eye,) thinking this is another of those bring you round the island scammer. But we were so so wrong!

The driver's route through Bukit Batok is actually one dollar cheaper than the usual route! When sis and I got down, we said, we thought it's going to be a longer route, but this driver is one who really knows the route around. We were so wrong in judging people so early.

We were hungry and did not have much time, so we ate at Burger King. I think we said Hungry Jack's. (Hungry Jack's the name they used for BK in Australia.) It's been a long time since we had BK because BK's student's food while studying long long ago. Our minds seems to have been wired to avoid it since we came back from Aust.

I saw that there's a new burger. Spicy Tendercrisp. Sounds delicious so I ordered it.
Pardon the chilli sauce on the tray liner, do you all do that too? lol..

Spicy Tendercrisp

The burger...

Spicy Tendercrisp

The bun looks like a peach right? With the line in the middle!

Spicy Tendercrisp

After taking a few bites, I thought I should photographed it. lol
It's juicy right? (or juice plus oil haha)

Spicy Tendercrisp

Sis wanted the Whopper. But when I ordered it they said Whopper's run out! "Wah. Can run out one ah?" So I ordered the Whopper Jr for her instead.

Whopper Junior

Why do burgers look better on photos than they really taste? LOL...

Whopper Junior

Swenson's @ IMM

Part II of cousin's birthday that we celebrated with other cousins. Ya, we got a big family.
The kids wanted Swenson's. So off we went to Swenson's.

(The adults were thinking, err Swenwon's ah... but OK lah... It is better than Swenson's of long ago. haha.. )

While waiting for others to arrive, we ordered some appetizers first. Most of us were famished! So here's the Calamari Rings.

Calamari Rings

Stuffed Mushrooms. These are not bad!

Deep Fried Mushrooms

Some new stuff on their menu, Spice 'n' Chic.

Spice 'n' Chic

Rodeo Wings. Hmmm...

Rodeo Wings

Uncle and a few persons shared this. Clam Chowder in Sourdough.
We were thinking of the sourdough bread in San Francisco while having this. Of course the one in SF is nicer. :-)

Clam Chowder in Sourdough breadbowl

Guess what I had for dinner? Oriental Beef Salad!
I think I got to cut down on what I eat! hehe.... This salad is very huge.

Oriental Beef salad

You can be quite full eating just this salad. (I had a soup of the day to go too)

Oriental Beef salad

The smallest amongst us had the Children's meal.
The mini burger.

I can't remember who had what... but here's what one of us had:

The Teriyaki Chicken Pasta.

Teriyaki Chicken Pasta

Fish and Chips

Fish and Chips

Crayfish Pasta. I think the birthday girl had this.

Pesto Salmon Saute.

Pesto Salmon Sauté

With all the above, we were quite full. No one can eat anymore food. But just for the fun of it, aunt ordered a mini mini 'ice cream cake'. :-)

3 scoops of ice cream

Ice cream is still the nicest thing to have in Swenson's. LOL...
