Mickey Mouse Cake

On Sunday night, a group of us were invited to a friend's house for dinner. He was preparing steamboat. We knew it was his birthday, and had hints that he did not want anyone of us to bring anything.

But how can we go empty handed? We decided to get him a cake anyway. He's already 35. Looking at the refrigerated shelf at Bengawan Solo, we can't decide which cake.

The kiddo in us said, get a Mickey Mouse! Haha...

It is a beautiful cake ya? Surprisingly, it tasted not bad too. It was a chocolate cake inside.
Happy Birthday Alan!

Food Republic @ Wisma Atria

By know you know that at time, we do crazy things, we will take a cab halfway thru the island to eat and then take cab and get back to work. Of course we don't do it daily.

This colleague of ours, had to go to a dentist, and his dentist is at Wisma Atria. So we accompanied him lah, give him comfort a bit. LOL. (aren't you afraid of the dentist??)

So we ate at Food Republic.

We ordered 'Or Chien' (Oysters Pancakes)

We also had 2 plates of the "Or peh" leaves char kuey teow.

Another colleague ordered the "oh peh" leaves hay mee.

Also the "jian ping". We all don't find this jian ping nice at all.

Don't need to name the store ya, when you are there, I am sure you can find the store.
By the way, everyone seems to say the same thing. The similar food, the prices in Wisma Atria seems to be cheaper than at the Harry Potter version of Food Republic at Suntec City.

Curry Puff with the Green Dot

Can you still call a curry puff a curry puff if there's no curry in it?
Colleagues bought this for a few of us last Friday.

He said he got some different ones, this is black pepper chicken ones.
Ya, the green dot ones are the black pepper ones.

Not too bad lah, very different. (some pple told me, you a bit outdated, they have it for some time already, err ok lor... haha)

By the way, if you want to know how to get them for 40% off? Those in Singapore, check out the Singpost National Day brochure package that came in your mailbox. There's an Old Chang Kee coupon in it! (The package that came with some sachet of softener if you wonder huh??? what package)

I did not know it too, until colleague pointed it out, and got us these curry puffs. :-) $2 off for $5 of products purchased. Not a bad deal eh?

Ricciotti Italian Deli & Pastry @ The Riverwalk

Tonight we celebrated 2 friend's birthday. What a coincidence that both fall on the same day! After our Bible Study, we all, (the all is like 20 of us) went to Ricciotti to have dessert.

We are as the locals call it, "siao" (mad) dessert kind. We nearly ordered all the cakes they have on the glass fridge display.

Here goes....

But wait, still got! Tomorrow show you what else we ate......
Stay tuned...

So, are you 'siao' dessert too?

Smooth Skin Species Avocado

You have seen the tree in a previous post.

Here's the close up of the fruit.

It's the smooth skin species. Ok, not so smooth, with a bit of blemish. But it's not the ones that we usually get from the shops, which are wrinkled species.

Take a look at this website at Purdue University. Lots of info!

Ajisen @ Pargo Bugis

Last Sunday, we had lunch at Pargo Bugis. Instead of walking down the basement path where the food court and other restaurants are, we walk on ground level and at the other side.

It's been sometime since we had Ajisen, so we sat down.
We ordered the set meals, which comes with a side dish, a main dish and a drink.

The side dish that came was the Octopus. It has lots of sauce on it right? Is it a bit wrong? But I think I dip my other food in this sauce. (oii.. don't laugh!)

We also had Octopus Balls with benito flakes.

These are the soft shell crabs.

Sis and Aunt ordered the Pai Ku Mian. (Pork rib ramen).
I love the pork ribs, I 'tax' some from sis.

I had Tomato Chicken. I thought it was interesting and I think it is very delicious. I love tomato based stuff. The soup is whitish, but below, there's something like tomato salsa you have as dips.

Have a great day ahead.

Last Sunday, we were walking around at Parco Bugis and guess what we saw? Singapore's tallest wedding cake.

Can you guess how tall it is?

It's 3.8 metres tall and it weights 1.4 tonnes!

Zoom in at the bottom layer. How interesting to have water droplets deco yah..

It you can see on the right, is a banner that has the height of the cake.

The cake is made by Hotel Intercontinental.
Would you want to have a cake like this for your wedding?

Lao Beijing @ Plaza Singapura

Last Friday nite, a group of friends met to watch Transformers. The show's at 8.20 pm. The rest could not meet up earlier for dinner, so only 3 persons could. Two of us arrived earlier, and proceeded to order some food at Lao Beijing.

We ordered portions for 3 persons, but the 3rd person got stuck in traffic and could not make it till much much later, no problem, the 2 of us just finished up everything, we were too hungry anyway. *glutton look*

Here's what we ate.

2 starter dishes:
Sliced White Pork with lotsa garlic. I loveeeee this!

Cucumber pickles.

Well, the main dishes. Another type of cucumber: Sea Cucumber.

Then another claypot dish. Egg plant with mince meat.

Also Dou Miao with Chicken mousse.

It was a hearty meal, and then it was off to Transformers.
Those who did not join us for the meal, next time lah.. :-)

I have fabulous office mates. Remember the other day, one bought a box of muffins from Toa Payoh. Just last Tuesday, another colleague bought this for me.

A nice chocolatey muffin from Spinelli's.

If you work in an office, do you all always buy food for your colleagues?

Asam Fish, Ngor Hiang @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

Sis and I we went to Bukit Timah Food Centre to have lunch few days ago, and it shows we have very different liking for food.

She likes to order Ngor Hiang when she comes here.

For me, I almost always order this, if we are not sharing food. I like Assam Fish. This fish reminds me of childhood food too. Sis wont touch this at all! haha..

I almost always certain order bitter gourd to go along too! I remember a friend who says, you are eating the same thing again!

Your siblings like the same food? I know my other siblings like different food. Do you know what your siblings like or hate?

Yikowei @ The Centrepoint

Last Sunday, we decided to go to The Centrepoint at Orchard Rd because it was the last day of the sale at Robinsons.

The usual places to eat there is so predictable, so we thought we will walk down the Basement 2. We walked and thought hmmm new shop, should we give it a try? So we walked in and sat down. Looked at the menu, so boring, thought we should have gone opposite shop instead.

Anyway, we ordered 1 fried rice and 1 XO beehoon. We thought we will just make it quick and get on with shopping.

When the food came, we tried it, ey, not that bad leh. Still can pass. haha...

Fried Rice something, sis said Crystal Jade better, but ok lah, its less pricy here :-)

We also ordered XO Bee hoon. It actually taste quite ok. This picture is actually the 2nd plate we ordered. The original one came with 9-10 prawns. Uncle's coming to join us, he does not eat prawns, so they actually accommodated by changing the ingredients to have sotong and chicken meat instead. That gave us a good impression.

While we were at it, we saw the counter had Kueh Pai Tee, so we ordered. It came in a plate like this. Wah. Never seen pai tee served like this. It was not too bad too.

Good alternative to Pizza Hut, Prima Taste etc at this mall. Rice and Noodles around $9, Paitee ( 5 pieces) for around $6 I think. Place still new, so no GST yet. haha... Usual service tax still applies.

Riverside Indonesian Restaurant @ Riverside Point (Part 2)

Here's the rest of the dishes...

This big huge fish came. I would say the fish is a bit dry.

This is the ala carte order of Otah.

Of course there's Satay lah.. Chicken and Mutton.

As you can see, everything is panggang, so what else is there to panggang?
Ikan Pari Panggang lah... (Ray Fish)

The Udang (Prawns) is also panggang.

The next and the last dish is surprisingly not panggang!
It's Sotong!

It was a good time meeting with people. Even the way we order, come to think of it is funny.
On the set menu, there's these numbers, and for each number, there's a panggang something and another version. We were just like voting, some are non brainer, of course we will take certain things over others.

Happy Birthday Kevin!

Riverside Indonesian Restaurant @ Riverside Point

Last nite went for the monthly makan thingy again with friends. This month there's two birthday persons. One could not make it last minute. Happy Birthday Kevin and Eileen!

Anyway, we decided why not try the Riverside Indonesian Restaurant. All of us think it's actually quite nice, we ate till we want no more!

By the way, the same restaurant has a stall at the Kopitiam at Plaza Singapura.

So, here are some photos of the makan...
There's so many things to choose, so we just ordered a set thingy, where we get to pick a few dishes.

The early people were drinking tiger when we arrived.

The Ayam Panggang arrived first. I like it!

Since we had so many people, it came in a few plates.

Sambal Kangkong was next.

Tauhu Goreng quickly followed. I like this very much as inside, there's egg that the yolk part was still runny! I love my egg yokes like that!

Tomorrow, show you all more ya...

Curry Fish Head @ Kopitiam beside Clementi West St 2 market

Errr, I don't know the name of the kopitiam, but we have eaten here a few times. hehe.. I don't know about you, but our family, we have nick names for different places to eat. Eg, Uncle Kopitiam and Aunty Kopitiam, Tua Long Gao (big drain) etc..

Well, this one is Orange colour kopitiam beside the Clementi West St 2 market.
Few nites ago, we went over to have dinner.

Ordered 3 things only. I like their Curry Fish Head very much. I can literally drink down all the artery choking curry!

This is Fan Su Yeh too. It's different from yesterday's post right?
I think its a diff species, and these are the very young shoots.

Need to eat more veg, so we ordered Kai Lan as well.

It sure was very satisfactory as the fish head is huge, it's around 2 men's palm size.
$32 for the 3 dishes above and 3 rice.

Five Star Chicken Rice @ Upper Bukit Timah

I think I have not posted pictures of this stall yet, though I have eaten there so many times.
I think the chicken here is less fatty as it uses Kampung Chicken. Not the kampung kampung chicken, but the purposely rared kampung chicken. (haha.. if you understand what I am trying to say)

Remember that going there long ago, it used to be only chicken rice, but when bird flu struck some time ago, other things came out as well.

Will show you the chicken dishes today, the rest tomorrow lah...

It's called Five Star. Situated at Cheong Chin Nam Road

The 'white chicken'. Plus the spare parts at the side...

Then we also had the 'roast chicken'.

The Chicken Rice.

If you want to go, here's the addresses and tel no.

Other dishes that we ordered, coming tomorrow, I think the kitchen it busy. haha...

This Bak Chor really has lots of chor. I find it quite nice. I think the queue of people also think so. haha... ( I asked for Kuey Teow instead.. )

Talking about Jiak Chor, are you a person that easily Jiak Chor one?
(Jiak Chor literally translated means Eat Vinegar. But Jiak Chor means Get Jealous in the local dialect)

100 Satays and 20 chicken wings @ Lau Pa Sat

Last Thursday night, a group of friends who have not met for a month had supper at Lao Pa Sat. We just wanted to 'snack' and 'catch up'.

So, we went to Lao Pa Sat, because it was the nearer place after our fellowship at a church nearby. I can't remember how many of us were there, but we ordered 100 satays and 20 chicken wings. Initially we thought that it might be too much, but turn out no.... we wanted more!

Everytime we come here, it seems that we end up sitting in front of Stall 8. They are kind enough to arrange the tables for us to fit all of us.

The orders came in a few plates like these ones...

We thought 20 wings were too much, but don't they just look yummylicious!

It's always a good time to catch up over food. Oh yes, it was also someone's birthday!
Happy birthday Estella.

Zhu Jiang Roast Meat @ Toa Payoh

Remember I told you yesterday that colleague got craving for Shao La. He crave for meat from this store lor...

So, we came all the way here to makan our lunch. It's at the ground floor of the Car Park building just beside HDB Hub.

Here's the 'Shao Rou' and 'Cha Shao' (Roast Pork).

And the duck fans (which are my colleagues) sure order duck when there's a chance. Duck very fat fat though. They love the fat. (yikes!)

This is the Kiam Chai soup. (Salted veg soup).
I like this soup, but it's a bit on the peppery side.

We also ordered two veg sides. This is the 'tao geh' / bean-sprouts.
If you have sharp eyes, yes, those are fried lard. (yikes again.. but again, they do not have trans fat though...)

Let me ask you all a question, would you all eat the lard?
For me, I avoid it if possible. But I will take one piece sometimes. :-O

By the way, these 3 (out of 6) colleagues of mine who we usually go out for lunch, they love chicken skin, pork lard etc, and guess what! Their cholesterol levels are low! Sigh... unfair isn't it? (yes, we take yearly blood test)

Muffins from Bliss Haven, Toa Payoh Lorong 1

Last Friday, to satisfy one colleague's craving for 'shao la' (Roast Meat), he 'die die' want to go to Toa Payoh to eat. Those pictures later.

But another colleague who used to be Toa Payoh resident until recently, went to 'tapow' back these muffins. I would have to ask where the exact location, but it's somewhere near HDB Hub, where we ate.

They are actually quite nice.... Can you see the oreos chunks? They are big and fluffy!

Close up of the chocolate chip one that I ate.

This stall it seems have an interesting history. It's located at a Cze Char store called Bliss Heaven, but instead of having Cze Char, it is selling muffins now.

Muffins of 6 diff flavours cost $1 each.
Found this link if you want to read more about this stall.

Talk about muffins, do you have a muffin? It seems when people call you muffin, it means you have a tummy that is overflowing from your pants, just like the muffin above! hahaha....

Va Va Voom (Desserts)

These are some of the drinks and desserts we had, or those that I managed to take some photos.

Lemongrass & Honey drink I think...

This is Vietnamese Coffee. Have you seen it? It brews and drips while you wait.

This is what I had. Sago with Avocado sauce. The Avocado sauce is yummy.

I forgot what this is, maybe when those who ate it updates me, I will put the name here.
It's pancakes with ice cream.

This is I think their most favourite dessert. Pancakes with mango puree. Only a few person had it as they ran out of mangoes. haha..

Va Va Voom @ Seah St (Part 2)

The last appetiser that came was these spring rolls.

We also ordered the mains, most of us took the same thing, how creative! haha..

It was either the soupy beef set or the 2 diff rice sets.

This is the steak with rice.

This is the the grilled pork chop I think.

I ate this! Vietnamese Beef Combi set. Beef balls and sliced beef. The flavour was not what we expected. Maybe we ate too rich and variety of appetizers, but this comes out a bit bland to me.

But it is a huge bowl. Look! Compare it to be big cup beside it.

We were too full, but we still had desserts! haha...

Va Va Voom @ Seah St (Part 1)

One of our friends knows the boss of this place, so when we were there, we did not really order the starters, we have 12 persons, so we let the boss decide for us.

It was like a surprise. We were just waiting and wondering what will come out.

This interesting looking dish came out first. The boss says it is his special creation.
Morning glory with sliced beef. It is actually very very refreshing and nice tasting!

Next came the Vietnamese Rolls. I am not sure how you all eat it, but I stir up the sauce and then pour a big scoop of it over the rolls. yum......

Next came the chicken wings. Ooo.... I just love chicken wings, do you?

Next, the fish cake. It looks so simple right? But it taste quite good actually.

No, the starters have not ended! The next is many people's favourite. Its very tender beef rolls, with cheese in it. You just have to put in your mouth and taste will just make you want to have more!

We told the boss, next time, use wagyu ok? he laughed at us...

But wait! There's more. More starters came, view it tomorrow lah.....
