Sushi Tei @ VivoCity

Our "gorilla" friend and another friend wanted to ask us out for dinner. It was some emails that was 'ding-dong-ing' around and somehow we ended up wanting to go to Sushi Tei again because we can still get the 20% because two of us had the Sushi Tei card and it was our birthday month. (times are not so good, so 20% savings is good!)

Momo also had the same vouchers I used the other time. So, we had the Sashimi Salad for free again.

This time we had the sushi tei dressing.

The egg and unagi.
(we have some how come to a conclusion that for this, only the Holland V branch can make it well, the one here, and Raffles City can't seem to get it as nice. Anyone out there agrees?)

We had the hot pot again. This time we tried the "Soya Milk" broth. See it's so white ;-)
How does it taste? Quite good, but you can't really taste the soya milk after a while. It's the seafood version we ordered. Filled with delicious seafood as you can see.

Buta Kimchi. Momo wanted to try this, after she saw what I ate the other time.
I think Kimchi taste good on anything. I think I am on a 'kimchi phase'. LOL

We also had the big prawn sushi. It's the caterpillar sushi.

Quite nicely done as you can see.

For those who needs carbo, just order some to satisfy youself.
Salmon Rice.

And also Prawn Tempura Rice.

Dôme @ Dempsey Hill

Last week, a few of our friends (which included our 'gorilla' friend) met for dinner. After dinner we adjourned to Dempsey Hill because 'gorilla' wanted to have Ben & Jerry ice cream there.

When we walked into B&J, we could not find a sitting place there. It was so packed and noisy, because the live band was there.

We decided to walk over to Dome instead. We could get seats for 4 almost immediately and it was quiet. :-)

This branch looks particularly beautiful and stylish! Doesn't it look so English country like?

Anyway, those who could sleep after drinking caffeine ordered their coffee. Those who could not just had to content with water.

We did shared 3 desserts amongst the 4 of us.
The Pecan Pie with Gelato on top.

Tempt you a bit. LOL...

Apple crumble with gelato.

Raspberry Cheesecake.

Have a great week ahead. It's going to be really busy!

Old Town Coffee @ Chun Tin Court

Was back again at Old Town Coffee a few days ago. This time to have lunch instead of just having drinks. Nearby food centres are just too warm and humid for these few week's weather. Seeking refuge at air conditioned places.

We had the Nasi Rendang Chicken. It was served in brown paper on a basket. How interesting. It's those 'tapow' (takeaway) brown paper. The portion's quite big. You will get very full.

This one comes with a drumstick.
I think the price is around $8 or thereabouts.

This is the curry mee. (or rather Curry Kuey Teow, since we asked for Kuey Teow:-) )
Looks overly generous with oil ya. $5.90

A hot lemon tea. It will dissolve some oil from the above dishes. :-p
$2.90

It was such a hot day, we had I think 5 orders of the "Xi Mut" milk tea. I think I am getting to like this tea more each time I drink it. :-p $2.30

Villa Seafood Galleria @ Labrador Nature Reserve

Momo's been overeating. This was one of her birthday dinners. It was a two person's birthday in 1 kind of birthday celebration.

Thanks to Dino and another friend who organized the whole thing that started earlier in the day till night. It was a surprise for Momo as she did not know where dinner was to be at.

It was guessing all the way until we reached the Labrador Nature Reserve.

What did we eat? The 5 of us had....

3 different soups to try.
This is the Soup of the Day - Dried Scallop and Daikon Soup.

The fish maw bisque. This one is really tasty. (for those who like things a tad salty, this is for you)

This is for those who like vegetables. The Crab meat, mushroom and spinach soup.
The moment you put in your mouth, you know its so healthy tasting. LOL...

We also had ostrich meat in black pepper sauce. It was very tender. If you like beef, you would love this.

The scallop and asparagus. Nice.

The deep fried buns for the crabs. Seeing this bun, you should know what kind of crabs we are eating!

Chilli Crabs. The sauce is kind of sweetish. Does not give you that super spicy kick. For those who can't take spicy chilli crab, this milder version that taste more tomato-ish is for you.

This is what went into my stomach. haha...

We also needed some carbo for the night. This was the Fish Noodles with Seafood.
(it's usually in black pepper, but we already had black pepper ostrich, so we requested that they omit the black pepper here). A tad oily, but taste wise it's good.

If you come during lunch, you get a really good view of the sea.
If you are here for dinner, after dinner, you can go up to the roof top, and sit romantically under the stars and have a drink from the bar. ;-)

Thai Cuisine Workshop with Chef Yong @ The People's Association Community Centres

Guess what I did last weekend? I attended a cooking workshop! Sis, Momo, Camemberu and Southernoise and I registered for Chef Yong's cooking workshop at Ulu Pandan Community Centre.

Sis and I watch "The Asian Food Channel" (on Starhub TV Channel 69 for those in Singapore, Astro Channel 703 for those in Malaysia) a bit too often and we always wanted to be in the audience of the cooking shows! You know how the chef and the co-host will always "it smells so good", "how marvelously fragrant" etc... and you NEVER get to smell it! Or when the audience gets to taste the food, you get jealous because you don't get to eat it!

This is our chance to try it! Chef Eric Low, (his pen name = Chef Yong) is quite a famous guy in the Chef circle in Singapore. We are going to see the Chef in action and try the food he cooks too!

This is the Chef in action.

The first dish we were taught: Thai Grilled Beef Salad.
Oh, this is so so delicious. I had double portions.

Chef explained everything from how it's eaten in Thailand, where to get Thai ingredients in Singapore etc... You will really be impressed with his knowledge. We were told this salad is eaten with steamed glutinous rice. So here's the beef salad served with the glutinous rice. (the rice is hidden behind the salad)

The second dish he taught was Thai Squid Cakes with Pineapple Salsa.
This is Chef Eric preparing the squid cakes.

The squid cakes are dipped with breadcrumbs.

The next step was deep frying them.

He makes enough for everyone and some extra for seconds too!

The pineapple salsa that he made in our presence.

Pour over the fried squid cakes and it's ready. Tada!
I will adapt his recipe to reduce some ingredients to make it less salty. Our family is a bit too sensitive to salt ;-)

The third dish he taught was Pineapple Fried Rice.
I was wondering how to cook this at home! I do not have such a big wok! No big hawker style big burner fire too! LOL...

Sis and I realised that our tongue's not tuned to fish sauce yet. We did not grow up with fish sauce so we might use less of this ingredient and also oil if we follow the recipe at home. That's chef splashing fish sauce into the rice.

The finished product. Garnished with fried basil, pork floss and toasted cashew nuts.

Kingfisher Cafe @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House

Colleagues and I, we came back to Kingsfisher Cafe to have lunch again. We remembered that they are closing down and moving to a new location soon.

Guess what's our reason this time to come here? We know that prices will definitely rise when a restaurant goes through refurbishment or move. This is Singapore, it happens 100% of the time! We knew exactly what we wanted to eat before we came here.

We have 2 portion orders of 'carrot cake' as well. The order of carrot taste really good today. We realise that there's lots of ingredients in it. Pan fried so nicely too. We like, we like. ;-)
6 pieces - $7.60

The reason we came here was to eat the Nasi Goreng Istimewa.
Istimewa means special. What's special? It has so many things. KEROPOK! sate, egg sunny side up, big drumstick.

Turn the plate around, you can see that there's 2 prawns, acar and the big huge portion of fried rice. $8 each. We had 5 plates of this. haha...

We also ordered one Sambal Kang Kong to share. It's good too. $12

We asked them. This place will forever be gone from 29 September. They will have new restaurants at the new Guild House / Alumni House. The western menu will go to the new restaurant called "The Ridge Bar". The chinese menu will go to "The Scholar".

You will need to be a member of the NUSS or come with someone who is a NUS Staff.

Javanese Malay Food @ Clementi West St 2

A colleague said let's go to Clementi to eat some Malay Food yesterday. We were wondering where he would drive us. Oh... it was to Clementi West St 2.

He said the Javanese Malay stall that we used to go to (at Blk 727, same block as the 7-Eleven), he knows where it has moved to, after a long search.

It's now at Blk 722. They did not move too far away.

Our 'driver' drove us here so that he could eat his mee rebus. It does look very good. Thick gravy, portion's good too. Hmm.. next time I shall try it.

For me, I had the soto bee hoon. Compared to the soto I had (posted few days ago), the soup was better at the 'other' stall, but this one had quite a lot of ayam hiris (chicken stripes) and more bee hoon too. I was glad that they had quite a bit of bean sprouts too.

The spicy paste (the dark stuff in the middle) when you mix it into the soup, the whole soup changes. It gets really really spicy and the salt in it just brings out the flavour of the soup. I liked it.

Oh, this stall also has the lontong goreng. It's like chinese 'chai tow kueh'. Instead of carrot cake, it's ketupat for this dish. It's like mee goreng with mee, but ketupat pieces.

It's not too bad. But personally, I prefer my garlic infused black chai tow kueh. It has more uumpph. Maybe if they added lots of garlic to it... Hmmmm. LOL...

Previously (like 1 year ago or so) we used to eat their mix rice. The rice's good. But today was not a rice day for us. Next time.... ;-)

3 Cakes for 3 Darlings @ Awfully Chocolate

Earlier tonight, we celebrated 3 friend's birthday. The we is 31 of us. Thanks to the organizers who went through the trouble so the rest of us could have 3 wonderful cakes. (oh, do I sound that we are more interested in eating the cake than celebrating birthdays? haha)

The first cake belongs to Serene.

Second cake is for Fong Shai.

Third cake for Gwen.

These are really lovely cakes from Awfully Chocolates. 3 different cakes with 3 different flavours. How do you know what they are?

Just look at the sides. RC stands for Chocolate Rum & Cherry Cake.

B stands for Banana. (Chocolate Banana Cake)

Since the photo has been taken, don't waste it. Here's how it looks inside.
The Chocolate Rum & Cherry Cake. I like this the most.

For the purist, the good old Chocolate Cake.

Those who likes bananas, they will 'go bananas' (pun totally intended haha) over the Chocolate Banana Cake

Wishing all of them a very Blessed Birthday.
May the good Lord continue to bless them most bountifully.

Woolee Korean Cuisine @ Wisma Atria

Where can hungry people find food at Orchard Road at around 10 pm. Not many places it seems. (or I am yet to find out)

We kinda end up at the Korean food stall that has its own tables reserved at the Food Republic Food Court. Met the most pushy order taker, who wants you to order so much things. Hmm..

The usual kimchi, and some miniscure amount of fried anchovies. It comes with the seaweed soup as well.

Anyway, what we ate. A plate of Kimchi Fried Rice. Yes, the pushy lady somehow 'pushed' you to add meat into it. We were asked do you want chicken or beef? Sounds like it's included right?

But... No... after you finished your order, she informs you, that would be extra $2 for the meat. $6.50 + $2.00

We also ordered the Jajang Noodle. $8.
I have been ordering Jajang noodles at almost every Korean places haha... No comments on this one.

At least there's something that tasted ok. Toufu Kimchi $13.50
We enjoyed the pork slices and kimchi more. It's sure is spicy.

Sushi Tei @ Holland Village

One place for September babies who holds the Sushi Tei card must go is Sushi Tei. Birthday babies get 20% the total bill. I am a sucker for such stuff.

So what did we have at Sushi Tei? Chawanmushi..

Prawn Sushi Roll, with meat floss coating it. Quite nice ;-)

We had 6 of us, and those who have big appetite order something to fill their tummy. Others just share stuff. My cousin can just survive on this. Salmon sashimi on rice.

We had a voucher that entitled us to have a sashimi salad. So we ordered it. It's quite refreshing esp with the tangy dressing.

Sis and I shared the cold noodles. This is the one with the sesame seed paste dressing. Delicious.

Bro is a big eater. He had the tempura rice set.

Every few months, we realise they have some promotion. This time, they have Pork Kimchi. It was good. Kimchi always gives you a bigger appetite after eating.

For the rest of us, we all shared the big bowl dish again. We always enjoy having a hot pot on a portable burner on the table top. We also love the spicy soup. Very satisfying. (and salty too)

Oh yes, we also had the scallop too. But it seems the price and the quantity has changed. LOL. It used to be 4 per serving. It is now only 2.

Coffee Club @ Holland Village

This was our supper that a few friends and I had just the other day. It was the night that we had food from Curry Favor (posted here a few days ago). We were meeting another friend, and we thought why not ask him to meet us in Holland Village instead.

While walking to Coffee Club in Holland Village, we bumped into my sis and her colleagues. What a coincidence. They were wanting to eat some ice cream. They joined us instead at Coffee Club.

We initially wanted only desserts to sweeten up our mouths, but end up having the following...

Wasabi Prawn Salad. Wasabi's not potent enough, other than that, it was ok.

Sis and her colleauges had wedges with salsa and sour cream. It seems this is quite popular with people here. We saw quite a few tables ordering this too.

Goodness. More food was ordered and we even had chicken wings!

OK, back to our desserts. This was Mille-feuille (translated as thousand layers)

Wanna know why it's called thousand layers in French? Here's why.
yummy!!!!!!

Another desserts, the chocolate mousse that's gloriously rich in chocolate.

Did not take photos of drinks. They always look similar that I have given up taking photos of them. ;-p

It was such a funny night. We were chatting and laughing and eating.
So glad that I joined them instead of thinking of going home to finish up unfinished work from office.

Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room @ IMM

We stopped going to this place for a long time because they used to tell you when you place your order after lining up that, sorry this has run out, we are not preparing this today. You get annoyed because you need to ask those at the table what they want to eat again.

But a visit last week changed into a pleasant surprise. Everything we ordered was available! Looks like a good start. Food's not too bad this time too. Looks like they have changed for the better.

This is the chicken, mushroom and sausage rice. Uncle had it and was not too bad.

My cousin had the salted and mince meat rice.

Aunt had the fried rice. Looks good too ya.

I had the baked curry rice with chicken. I think it was quite nice. But you gotta wait a while when you order this because they need to bake it for some time. The chicken although 'chao tar' outside was still moist inside.

The shared items we had was the fried wantons.

We like this. Orange Deep Fried Pork Ribs.

Kingfisher Cafe @ NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House

This was eaten less than a month ago with my colleagues, I realize I better post it up before the cafe is closed!

One colleague had the Yangzhou Fried Rice. Well, he kinda regretted not because it was not nice, but the other dishes that others ordered looked even nicer! haha...

I had the Madras Curry. I finished every drop of curry.

The the rest of my colleagues, I think 4 of them, had this.
The Nasi Goreng Istimewa. It comes with satay, drumstick, keropok, achar and a fried egg!
Truly istimewa (special) indeed. Colleagues all said it was tasty.

We ordered something to share as well.
The Carrot Cake.

Plus a serving of chicken feet! ;-)

We see a notice recently that it is closing from 29 Sept at the old (current) place. It is moving to the new extension.

The 2 Number 1 Nasi Lemak @ Adam Road Food Centre

Which is the real Number 1 Nasi Lemak at Adam Road? The answer is Up To You! It's up to your preference really! My colleagues and I, we were sitting down the other day looking which one has a longer queue, we realized both have equally long queues.

All we noticed is that the left queue moves slower because the makcik takes around 1 minute to serve 1 person. (Yes, my colleague timed it.) The right queue clears very quickly. We did not bother to time because it was quick!

Both stalls proudly proclaim they are No. 1.

This one says No. 2 Adam Road is the No. 1 Nasi Lemak.

Anyway, one colleague eat this quite often and he went to queue up at the left stall. We asked him why the left stall? The reason..... Kacang! Only the left stall serves kacang, and he likes kacang in his Nasi Lemak. So he ordered Adam's Special. $4

Another colleague, consider himself a purist and only queues at the No. 2 stall.
He ordered the Fish Meal $3 plus an otak otak for an extra $1.

Then who ate this? Me! After eating the tiny portion of Mee Rebus (from yesterday's post) I was still hungry. So I gave in to gluttony. I had the Chicken Wing Meal $3.

I shall not incur the wrath of both camps. Both sides have their own fans. Which is your favourite?

Mee Soto & Mee Rebus @ Adam Road Food Centre

This stall was recommended by one colleague. It's at Adam Road Food Centre and heard that it's popular.

This was the Mee Rebus that I tried a few days ago.
To me it's so so only. Another colleagues said Mee Rebus should be eaten at Ayer Rajah Market. Was told in the morning, it's the pak cik that sells it. His portion is larger and he gives extra stuff.

In the afternoon, it's the makcik, and this was what I get. ;-p
I had to eat something else after.

This is their Mee Soto. (I had Bee Hoon, so it should be Bee Hoon Soto) This photo is one month old though. I think their soto's better. The begedil is quite yummy.

If you visit their stall, you can see a huge pot of gravy for the soto. (It's really huge pot that you gotta see it. haha)

Curry Favor Japanese Kitchen @ Stamford House

This was last Friday's dinner that Momo and I had with 2 other friends.

No, we were not asking meeting each other because we wanted to ask favor from each other, or even get into their each other's good books, just because we ate at Curry Favor.

The place is a bit 'romantic' with dim lights, so the following photos are grainy ;-)

We all ended up eating the Curry Rice. They all came with a choice of either salad or soup.

One of our friend, "whose name has a song" ordered this. He has the Beef Fry Curry. $17.90 Does it look like the Dubai palms?

Inside one of the 'islands' of the palm.

Momo had the Stuffed Mushroom Fry Curry $18.90
Yes, it also looks like the Dubai Palms.

Careful when you bite into it, it squirts out lots of juice.

For me, I had the Rosu Katsy Curry. $13.90
No more palm shape Dubai islands though.

But it still has an arabian theme. Aladdin's lamp! The curry comes in a container that looks like Aladdin's lamp. We could choose either spicy or less spicy curry. I had the spicy version.

The other friend, 'The Gorilla', a nickname we just came up that night, had the Hire (Pork Filet) Katsu Curry. $19.90

The curry sauce also comes in an Aladdin's Lamp container. Pour your curry over the katsu.

We were told Rosu Katsu has more fats in the meat, while Hire Katsu is the leaner one.
Hmmm We think otherwise. We think Hire is tastier. haha...

Yes, we tried everyone's dish. Nice place to try your curries, a tad pricy, but the place's nice and cosy and reasonable good service.

Happy Mid Autumn Festival

Here are some of the commercial mooncakes we ate this season. This are the ones in our office. Looks like some vendors forgot about the festival? LOL...

This one from Tung Lok.

From Pine Court Chinese Restaurant.

From Bee Cheng Hiang.

The above all so so lah.
The best is the mum made by mummy, because it is not too sweet or oily. She made 'ping pi' one this year. Plus the piglets that sis and mum made. (shown the photo a few days ago).

Steamboat @ Aunt's Dining Room

It's always fun to have the whole family sitting on the big dining table enjoying food. Having steamboat is something that's quite fun. Moreover you can get children to cook for you too! hehe... They are always so eager to want to put stuff inside the pot.

Here's what we had last Sunday. All you need is an aunt and her sis to prepare the ingredients for us. (hehe...) A nice wide mouth, not too shallow pot, an induction cooker. (induction cooker's the best! the waiting time is the shortest because they heat up so quickly!)

Prawns and sotong...

Toufu...

Enoki mushroom. 2 or 3 packs, they kinda just melt away!

Chicken meat... (marinated ones taste better)

Thinly sliced pork, just get them from the supermarket....

With kids around, some sausages and quail's eggs...

Some fish slices... (marinated with ginger etc...)

Thinly sliced Beef... (yes from the supermarket)

Pig's liver...

Plus tomato, bak choi, some beef balls, thick stem mushrooms....
Oh, they sell fish paste now as well, just like the ones you eat outside. They are quite good. This is the first round thingy, all the ingredients that can 'last very long' in the soup. hehe..

Not forgetting the dips. We had like 3 or 4 kinds...
This is the cincalok dips. You can also get the sesame paste dips etc at the Jap section of supermarkets. They are yummy!

The play with your food...

Yes, play with your food. LOL...

Before all the rise in prices etc, we used to eat at places like Coca etc, but nowadays it cost SGD82 for 2 at Coca for example, dining at home seems better ya, especially when you have over 10 people. Don't want to wash up? You saw above, use disposable bowls! LOL...

"Long Queue" Fish Soup, Pig's Organ Soup @ Alexandra Village

Today's lunch is at a stall that has 'no name'. So let me call it "Long Queue" till someone lets me know the name of this stall.

The stall has a perpetual long queue. It's at Block 124 Bukit Merah Lane 1, the same coffee shop that Keng Eng Kee, the famous Zhi Char stall is.

You should be able to recognise it by this green signboard that tells you what they sell. (or just look for a snaking long queue.)

Most people come here to try the Pig's Organ Soup or the Fish Soup.
We ordered both of it, because we wanted to know why??

This is the Pig's Organ Soup. Quite ordinary looking, but everyone bowl is cooked individually. The boss does not have multiple stoves, just one, with a ferocious orange flame that covers the whole tiny pot!

This is another colleague's bowl and the ingredients dug out so that you can see what's inside. :-)

3 other persons had the Fish Soup. This is mine. Lots of veg inside (the white cabbage), plus 2 fishballs and quite a bit of fish slices.

The taste? Those who tasted the Pig's Organ says it is ok, with one colleague saying maybe they are a bit heavy handed on the salt. But both finished every single drop of soup! LOL

For the fish soup, it was tasty, the fish does not taste fishy. The soup's white and murky, I wonder how long they boil it for. Hmm...

You can either have it with a bowl of white rice.

Or yam rice. I suggest you give a pass to the yam rice. I had it and it's just a few tiny pieces of yam and some 'darkened' rice.

Anyway, try for yourself and see if it fits your liking. Food's always subjective.
All of us paid $3.30 each for Fish Soup or Pig's Organ Soup we ordered with the rice.

PeraMakan @ Keppel Club

On Monday, colleagues at work treated one colleague to a birthday lunch. It was already decided the week before that we will go to PeraMakan, since some people wanted to try the food at this place.

So what did we eat? Quite a lot actually! We had 6 of us and we these dishes.
The Beef Rendang. It was quite tender and flavourful.

The Ayam Buah Keluak. I think this is an acquired taste dish, either you like the taste of it or you totally hate it.

I will eat it, but I can't say I totally appreciate it. LOL

The Cincalok Egg. For cincalok fans. This time it is not so salty ;-)

The sambal kangkong. The usual favourite.

The otak otak. Lots of ingredients in it.

The BBQ sotong. I think I like this the best. Sotong's still so tender and the sauce is delicious.

The Babi Ponteh. We all like this dish too.

What's this? It's jantung pisang salad. Jantung Pisang is the banana flower. It had some prawn on top, and that's not cream. It's coconut milk. Something unique.

Choo Chiang Roasted Meat Noodle House @ Toa Payoh

Today, sis and I had to run some errands at HDB Hub at Toa Payoh. When it was lunch time, I remembered a colleague 'pirate' who once brought us to this 'shao la tian' here. So we decided to pop by.

We ordered a bowl of wantan soup.

We find it quite nice and huge. Inside it is also filled with lots of ingredients ;-)

We ordered a triple combi mix. Roast Pork, Roast Duck and BBQ Pork. We were quite happy with it, especially the duck.

For those who lives on gravy, 'drink' on.

With the gravy above, this rice will gone in a blink of the eye. LOL

Cake Avenue @ Lorong Kilat

Last week, it was kind of like a cake week. This was one of the many cakes I had. It's one that was not from the usual chain shops, and it tasted rather nice.

Aunt bought this cake from a shop called Cake Avenue. We initially thought she meant from a shop AT Cake Avenue, and wondered where that road is. LOL...

This is the Mango Mousse Cake. Aunt said you got to wait while the cakes being assembled from scratch. She waited around 25 minutes, and tada... here it is...

Pardon the dark and grainy photos. Usually, where there's cakes with candles around, the whole place will suddenly be dimmed, so photos will look like this. haha..

The last piece on the table, and I got a shot of it!

No, I did not purposely make the mango puree flow down, it was just full of it and after you cut the cake, it just flows...

We all liked the cake. It taste a bit like having a mango ice cream cake, it was nice and cold.

Ramen Santouka @ The Central

This was Saturday's lunch with my sister and brother. We wandered around The Central wanting to try other Japanese food, but either the shop's closed for the afternoon rest or it had a long queue. (We were there past 2.30 pm)

Our legs brought us to Santouka (again). As my friend Southernoise says, it's good to calibrate our tongues sometimes by coming back here. LOL.

We all decided to have sets as we wanted to eat both ramen and rice. We were already famished by 2.30PM.

Here's sis' set. She had the Shoyu Ramen. Oh, the broth that is so yummy! The pork cheeks are inside the soup.

She had hers with the cha siu rice set.

Bro had the spicy ramen. It's something that you will start sweating after eating. So delicious and so addictive!

He had it with the salmon and roe rice set. He likes it, I pinched some and I did not like it. It had too much smell of the sea to me.

I also had the spicy ramen.
Heard that it could cure a headache! Well, it did cure the headache I had.

I had it with the green stuff. Spring onions, sprouts and bonita flakes below. I think this is quite yummy and looks rather healthy too ya?

All the sets came with the yummy soft yolk eggs. My favourite kind of eggs.

How the set looks like. We did not order the pork cheeks that they are famous for, we know it's going to be in the soup anyway. Eating a slice of two should be enough. Some say pork cheeks in the soup loses its flavour very fast, it was ok for us ;-)

We were all stuffed. It seems our ramen portion was quite a big today. No, we did not ask for the bigger portion. Also, it was not as salty compared to my previous time here. Maybe there was some adjustments done?

We had our tongues calibrated and we shall be back again or maybe visit the other Jap stalls upstairs :-)

Soup Restaurant @ Paragon

This was our dinner last Sunday at the Soup Restaurant, Paragon. It has been some time since we last ate here.

The Samsui Ginger Chicken that almost everyone orders. The first dish that came out, and almost immediately after our orders! The big portion of it, now served double deck.

This was a new dish that they advertise outside. Fish from the stomach area stir fry with chilli. It's quite tasty.

The spicy fan su ye.

Pork ribs.

We had soup of the day too, which I realized I had forgotten to take.

Homemade Mid-Autumn Piglet Biscuits

This is one of the many homemade mid-autumn piglet biscuits mum makes every year. Sis helped mum made it, while I helped mum eat it.

Now.... whose is the real piglet? Me!

We have a whole box, and we will be giving them to our nephews and nieces.
These have red bean paste as the fillings.

Ricciotti Italian Deli & Pastry @ The Riverwalk

Continuation from yesterday's post, it's going to be a long post!

The 20 over of us sat in an L shape formation. We were doing the "passing around ritual", ie. we were passing desserts all around, take a bit, pass to the next person, take another bit, pass to the next person, if you really like that particular one, take a few more bits. (so much fun! but for some people, so gross!)

Some might say it's unfair to those sitting at opposite ends right? Anyway, the desserts were served randomly all along the L shape formation. So everyone has a change to get it. The desserts can go one one direction and then decide to go back too. "Can Gostan One". LOL..

But that will mean the poor photographer has to run everywhere and quickly snap each photo in like 5 seconds. Cafe nowadays are mostly 'dim', so pardon the not so clear photos for some.

The Profiteroles. It's chocolate all over. Cream puff covered with chocolate, in a chocolate vessel, with chocolate dusting on the plate and chocolate swirl.

This is named after the shop, Ricciotti. We can see it melting! "Luscious and creamy cheese cakes made from sweet cheese covered with saffron passito jelly. " description from their website.

I did not even got to touch this! Its pretty existence must have ended before it even reach our side of the table!

Did I try this? I think little bits of remnants when it reached my side. Think it is called Cannoli.
Tube pastry with stuffings? Looks green, must be pistachios.

This is the tiramisu, the one that many people come here to try. For lovers of mascarpone cheese, lady fingers, cocoa and coffee. Heard that it's award winning too!

This looks pretty too eh? The Panna Cotta, I remember this name because it appeared on yesterday's post. Vanilla pudding in chocolate shell with sabayon and chocolate jelly.

Oh, this is a must try. Apple struddle with ice cream!

This is called Morbida. Did it reach our side too? Looks nice though...
Their website describe it as "mouth watering chocolates mousse on base of supple chocolate sponge".

I remember eating this. It was one that people beside me said, must try must try. It was warm chocolate cake with cold ice cream. Yumz..

This looks so pretty with the star anise on top. Called Duomo. It's mascarpone and spicy cream with olive oil sugar dough.

Ah.. Guess the flavour of this one. It's Curry Dolce. Their website describe it as "finest white chocolate mousse with ricotta cheese and chocolate olive oil sugar dough".

Ms Dividend's birthday cake.

Keropokman's birthday cake.
On the website is described it as "italian rice cream with dark chocolate mousses and edible flowers".

That's all the photos I took. But I kinda remember we had like 20 kinds on display, guess some escaped the camera, or some did not reach the other side of the table. :-)

The bill came up to $200 over, but with Amex or UOB cards, you get 15% off. When it's divided by 20 over people, it's around $10 per person. ;-)

Ricciotti Italian Deli & Pastry @ The Riverwalk

On Tuesday, it was one of our friend's birthday. We had a Bible Study training session earlier at seven and and after it was over, around 20 of us continued our 'meeting' over at Ricciotti.

It was "Ms Dividends"'s birthday. (OK OK, it was also to pre-celebrate yours truly as well.) We all wanted to have a pig out session.

The staff at Ricciotti must be commended for allowing a loud boisterous group of us in and arranging 70% of their tables to fit us all in one big L shape formation. Thanks! (Maybe they are more relax after 9:30 pm, where most people have left after their dinner.)

Some people were hungry, so 2 pizzas were ordered. I have absolutely no idea what they are called. We just knew it tasted good. haha...

Ah... the reason we were here is to devour their Italian desserts. See these decadent stuff display on the refrigerated display? We had every kind of them.

We were a big enough group to be able to order every single dessert they sell.

You guessed it! Tomorrow's photos will be of the desserts we had. Photos of desserts that the camera caught in time before it was devoured by the sugar deprived people.

New Garo Japanese Restaurant @ Chun Tin Road

This was Sunday's lunch (before we went to Old Town). Aunt and Sis says this place is not bad, moreover we were hungry and hot and wanted a place with air conditioning, so we came in here.

We were seated in a long table, so I only took some photos, the ones at the other end is too far from my reach. I am only showing what I ate and what sis ate.

I had the Saba Shio & Katsu Furai Set Meal. $15.

Yup, I was in the mood for Saba again. I think a few more times and I will stop eating Saba for a few months. LOL

I think it was quite a filling set with the Saba plus a big piece of fried meat. Yum.

Sis had the Hiyashi Chuka Ramen. $12.
I like her ramen but she did not enjoy hers. She ate my food instead, while I ate hers.
There was something inside that made it a little bitter.

The set lunches are quite reasonably priced. It's also big in portion. Eg. Katsu/Oyako Don & Unagi that bro had was $16. Katsu/Oyako Don & Sashimi that bro's gf had was $16.

Quick service place and service is not too shabby too. I was quite full for a long time with its generous portions.

Ajisen @ IMM

This was dinner last Saturday with sis and momo. Sis needed to get some stuff from IMM. I also had to return library books at the nearby Jurong East library.

After settling all the errands, sis and momo decided that we shall have Ajisen. We noticed that the menu has finally changed. Prices are also different now.

At least there's something new to try and no more almost disintegrated menus.

We all had the Ajisen Sets, ie you order a main, a side dish and a drink. It's $14.90 each set for these that we ordered. These are the side dishes we had. Chicken wings. I always get this, it taste yummy somehow.

The white fish fingers. This was recommended by the person taking our orders. She said most people order it.

The meat skewers. This reminded us of the Australian 'pasar malam' food in Darwin! LOL... The ones in Darwin seem to taste better. ;-P

For the mains, this is the Kumamoto Ramen. Momo had this.

The Kotsu Ramen that sis had.

I had something totally new on the menu. The Spicy Octopus Dry Ramen.
Look at all the octopus suckers. It's a nice change to the usual soupy stuff I have in Ajisen.

For the soup dishes, sis and momo both noted that they are light handed on salt now. Why, oh why? The reason that we chose Ajisen was because we wanted some saltier food. LOL...

(But no one beats the saltiness at Santouka. Suddenly have craving for Santouka now. :-p)

Old Town Coffee @ Chun Tin Court

Old Town Coffee. We popped by after lunch on Sunday. This seems to be a new branch. The 'one' that people talks about in Singapore is at Big Splash. It's certainly no splash here, in a cosy and quiet neighbourhood.

After having lunch, cousin still wanted to have her favourite eggs. On the menu, it says Omega Soft Boiled Eggs. They must be using the Omega enriched eggs then.

One of the two cups of the famous Ipoh White Coffee.

Cousin and I had the iced 'Xi Mut' Milk Tea.
(huh? what's xi mut is panty hose in Cantonese, otherwise known as Xi Wa in Mandarin. LOL)

This is the hot milk tea.

The kaya butter toast. It's dark brown, not the usual white bread that's toasted.

What we saw inside was like curly fries strips of butter. :-)
They are quite good.

Nice change from the usual Ya Kun, Toast Box etc....
