Gelatissimo @ The Singapore Flyer

Momo and I had gelato at the Singapore Flyer yesterday.

It was very tempting to see their freshly made ice cream. You can see the fruits or sweets or cups or even chilly that represent the flavour.

There are more flavours, but these two photos should be enough to tempt any gelato lovers.

We had one scoop of Green Tea with another scoop of (i think it was) Original Chocolate.
It was a good combination. The Green Tea really gives you the fragrant green tea flavour and its slight bitterness goes very well with the sweet chocolate.

Ooo. It's yummy!

That reminds me, my ice cream maker at home is sitting on the shelf being lazy! I should make some ice cream soon.

relish by wildrocket @ Cluny Court (The Mains)

For the mains, we realise that Beef Burger on the set lunch is Grilled Beef Burger with black pepper sauce on the a-la-carte menu. 3 of us decided to have it as set meals, 1 person had it as a-la-carte. $18 if ordering as a-la-carte.

It was tasty, but they were a bit too 'generous' with the black peppercorns. We did not particularly like to bite on black peppercorns while eating our burgers. ;-)

We also like the fries. Ya, we liked the fries. It was the thick chunky kind.

We know when it comes to food, everyone has different taste, but today, we did find something in common. While we liked the burger, we found that the patty is a bit crumbly. (i.e. it crumbles into bits and pieces of mince meat if you bite it or cut it) It makes it a bit challenging to eat. Wonder if it's only today's patty. Everyone seems to be raving about this place, but we find it just ok, maybe a bit higher than most with a higher price too.

'Wire' had the Mexicana Beef Burger $18. He seem to enjoy it, much more than the black pepperians. LOL..

'Pirate', the person who asked us to come here had the BBQ Char Siew Pork Open Burger $19. OK, it smells good.

'Almond Jelly' had the Seafood Burger with Lemon Mayo. $19.

This is Ms Preggy's Spiced Lamb Pitta Burger w Mint hommus. $19

The rear view. ;-)

Total bill was $218 for 8 persons.
"old cat" is on one of this happy mood days. happy mood days = lunch on him days. LOL. Thanks for the treat!

relish by wildrocket @ Cluny Court

A colleague 'pirate' has been asking when we want to go try Relish. We were extremely busy last week, none of us could spare any time off work, even our lunch hour. This morning when we came to work, we were IM-ing each other on yahoo asking, relish today? OK was the answer. There was 8 of us today.

It was a hot day today yah, but we were so glad we had nice air conditioning in here. It's an old refurbished building with high ceiling. Looking at this somehow reminds me of Bill Granger's restaurant called bills in Sydney.

We were hungry. What did we have? This place is known for its burgers. Burgers cost around $17 - $19 each. (comes with fries). Looking at the Set Lunch specials that has 2 or 3 course lunch at around $21.50 - $25.50

Our communal digs. Two bowls of onion rings.

We like the onion rings.

A few of us had the set lunches. This is the soup of the day, Green Pea soup.

You can choose the salad if you don't like the soup. I had this Mesclun salad. It was light and crisp. The dressing fits it just nice.

The set meal also had a dessert, which is Coconut Ice Cream with Gula Melaka. It's a shake basically. Coconut Ice Cream + Gula Melaka, that's Chendol lah! (without the green bits).

The mains we had tomorrow lah....

Mr Bean Ice Cream @ NUH

A few colleagues had the urge for chicken feet for lunch today. A nearby, cheap and decent chicken feet would be the Kopitiam at NUH Kent Ridge Wing. But alas, the 'auntie' that we used to buy from said, they are not selling it anymore! There goes our staff discounted pricing of $1.60 per steamer chicken feet . Where in Singapore can you get chicken feet for that price? Arrghhh....

NUH is becoming more and more like a shopping mall! We actually did some shopping at the pharmacies! (Both at the Kent Ridge Wing Pharmacy and also the Main Building Pharmacy.) It was as if the Great Singapore Sale is in the pharmacy!

It was raining, so while waiting for the rain to stop, a colleague 'almond jelly' asked if we wanted to try the Soya Bean Ice Cream? Ooo.. we did not know that Mr Bean sells ice cream now!

It's like soya bean milk! Very smooth as well. Not too sweet and texture is good too. We like it! Oh ya, notice the cone? It's the sugar cone or what some people call the 'aladdin cone', and not the KFC/Macs kind.

It says reduced sugar, reduced fat. So, eat without guilt! (It's 4.79g of fat per serving!)

$1.20 a cone. (If you happen to have a NUH, NUS staff card, you get 10% off)

Tonkichi @ Takashimaya Shopping Centre

Last Saturday, it was sort of like a partial family outing. Sis, Bro and I went out to have lunch. It has been some time since we ate with our bro! (Ya, we live under the same roof, but we don't really eat together. He's always at work till late.)

We walked around Takashimaya, hunting for food. We eventually decided to have Jap. So we went to Tonkichi.

Sis had the Rosu Curry. $22. It comes with a bowl of curry.
(Aha.. sis said that I make equally nice curry and taste the same)

With the curry is the Katsu.
(But I can't make nice katsu. haha.. Our kitchen at home is out of bounds to fried food. We hate cleaning oily kitchen hehe..)

Plus a salad.

Bro had the Miso Rosu Katsu Set. $21. Almost similar to sis, except it has the Miso sauce.
For those who love cabbage, rice and miso soup, if you order a set meal, you can have refills of it. We had refills of cabbage but not rice. The salad sauce to be poured over the cabbage is very nice. Light and tangy. One of the reasons we had refills of cabbage :-)

I had the Sauce Katsu Set $22. The diff, mine had the sauce poured over it and shredded seaweed on top. Salty but yummmie....

No, it's not black pig, but it is a satisfying lunch.

Haagen Dazs @ Vivo City

It's been sometime since we stepped into Haagan Dazs. Instead of having a birthday cake, we had a fondue with candle on it. Yes, this was aunt's 'birthday cake'. ;-)

The last time we had the fondue at HD, it did not look like this. They have changed the presentation of it. It looks nicer now, with pound cake and biscuits too. (prices have changed too)

But these are the little treasures that we love....

Hmmm is it because we are playing with food, that we feel good?

Oh man... I am being brainwashed by these ads. Saw the first ad last week, the second ad, I took it few weeks earlier. Instant noodles the healthier choice. Hmmmm. It sounds too good right?

no guilt!

I have not bought Maggi noodles for years now. I only like 2 brands and one flavour from each brand. The Koka Tom Yam Instant Rice Noodles and Indomie's Mi Goreng.

Out of curiosity, which brand of instant noodles do you like? I am sure everyone eats instant noodles. :-p

No Signboard Seafood Restaurant @ VivoCity

It's our aunt's birthday today. Indeed she has been a great blessing from God to us. So sis, bro and I, we gave her, uncle and cousin a treat today.

We booked a place at No Signboard Seafood at Vivo City. We have not been to this branch before. Many reviews says it has the most 'atas' deco amongst all its branches.

If you have been to other branches, this branch does look very opulent compared to other branches.

We had the Deep Fried Baby Squid. This is one of aunt's favourite. (uncle and cousin's too)

For veg, we had the sambal kangkong. Spicy and nice ;-)

This is the Sea Cucumber with Seafood in Claypot. Uncle and aunt both love sea cucumber. It's sis fav too.

Cereal Prawns. Another of aunt's favourite. (and also all of us too. haha..)
Uncle was joking, we are eating tomorrow's breakfast a few hours early. (if you don't get it, hint: cereals)

The crabs to be eaten at No Signboard. Their White Pepper Crab. Their specialty here. We had 2 Sri Lankan crabs. Yes, you guessed it. Aunt loves crabs!

We hope aunt enjoyed her dinner. Happy Birthday Aunt! May our heavenly Father continue to bless you most bountifully.

Eating Strawberries in the office

At my workplace, there's this annual event by the Wellness Centre that gives all staff who register fruits. We had a box of grapes this year.

At the same time, vendors come in to sell fruits and vegetables as well. A colleague saw the big huge strawberries and bought two boxes. One to bring home, and one to treat his fellow colleagues.

He washed it and we were eating it in our meeting room table. Everyone gathered in the meeting room for an urgent meeting! haha.... We had strawberries and also other stuff from other colleagues. A quick 20 minute meeting. LOL...

The strawberries are huge and sweet too. (except for one which i ate which was sour. haha)

Compare the fruit with my fingers. It's big right?

If you happen to chance on them, it's Driscoll's Long Stem strawberries.
The vendor that provided us the fruits were Sun Moon. So I guess you can find it in their shops perhaps.

Thanks "Wire" for those delicious strawberries.

Pai Ku Mien @ NUS Science Canteen

Been so busy the whole week at work, rushing so many projects by various groups of people. To save time, our lunch gang, half of it who are in the same team as me, are trying to squeeze every minute out of our 24 hours. But we still got to eat. "No eat, no energy to work." We are having half hour lunches this week!

But a person addicted to taking photos still finds time to snap photos of his food. LOL. This was one of the quick lunches I had this week. Pai Ku Mien (or rather Kuey Teow) at the Science Canteen at NUS.

Yes, one of those $2 meals that gets you lots of meat.

Local breakfast packed from Bukit Timah Food Centre

Last Sunday around noon, our youngest sis flew back to London. Just before she flew back, it was her last breakfast here. A few days ago she still had a short list of things yet to try.

After church, we walked over to Bukit Timah Food Centre and packed breakfast home. Here's some of the things we bought that was on her list.

Here's the Chwee Kueh that she wanted to eat. We bought 2 packs of 6 pieces at $1.50 each.

It's such a comfort food ya? Warm, soft yet firm steamed rice cakes. Topped with chai por that is so fragrant and yet not so salty. Add a bit of chilli. Oooo.... Satisfaction.

It's carbo and more carbo. Made also from rice flour and radish. Chai Tow Kueh. We know sis don't like the black version, so we queued up for the 'white' version. There are I think 3 or 4 stalls of CTK at Bukit Timah FC, we like this particular stall where our family thinks is the best. (Main staircase up, the 2nd aisle I think, I recognize the stall, but not the exact location.)

Another dish with Chai Por! The crispy eggs and skin on the outside, soft in the inside. We like it like that! We ordered a $4 and it was such a big pack.

We also had 'Ngor Hiong'. This mix of various fried stuff and century egg is my other sis fav. Yup, she queued up for this. We had 3 packs of bee hoon to share. $15

What a full breakfast we had.
Any of the above is your favourite comfort food too?

PeraMakan @ Keppel Club (Desserts)

Let's continue with the desserts. I shall try creative writing today OK?

Some people love it, some hate it. It's the Durian Penget. Oh the stink that fills the air when the dessert was served. (You can guess which side of the fence I am on) Half the table felt the most pleasant aroma filling the room, half the table was gasping for air.

Hey, pure D24, gula melaka, coconut milk proclaimed the staff who took our orders. We are proud of it, people are coming back because they know it's the real stuff.

Humans were born good, but when they discovered Durians, they fell. They were devouring and hunting for durians, their aim in life is all about durians. They cared about nothing else. The angels watched in disgust as humans put that nasty stuff in their mouths, feeding their addiction to satisfy their human lust.

A secret battle was raging. Durians loving humans verses anti durian angels. Who will win?

The angels were thinking of ways to win back the fallen humans. The angels presented the Chendol. The generous golden brown gula melaka on the smooth shaven ice is to lure humans back and turn away from evil. Come back prodigal son, come back.

The layers of treasure below, red beans, green neon looking strings of cendol, rich virgin press coconut milk. Will humans repent?

Stirring the mixture, the treasure floats up. A spoonful of this is fed to humans. They immediately felt the sweetness of the gula melaka blending in smoothly with the coconut milk with ice shavings, chendol and red beans. Their warm mouth cools instantly. Their throat being lubricated with chilled coconut milk. The humans shows signs of turning back.

The angels was scheming lot. The angels know they need to warm the human hearts. So they ordered warm desserts. The secret weapon: Bubur Terigu. They say wheat is addictive. Wheat made into all kinds of food makes human addicted. Wheat in gula melaka and coconut milk will surely do the trick!

Never mind it looks pretty plain. The angels just need to put one scoop of this into the human's mouth! It worked! The humans after tasted this, kept asking for more. The angels could see that the humans became quite emotional. Food like this invoke memories of their childhood. Their parents bringing back a metal container of terigu, the children eagerly looking at their mum scooping into their rooster design porcelain bowls, making sure every bowl has the exact quantity of the bubur. Hoping the last scoop goes into their bowl. Angels saw that the human almost saw tears coming out.

Aha! The humans are becoming emotional. They are most vulnerable at this moment. The angels knew they need to fuel the emotions. They served the humans Pulut Hitam. Black glutinous rice in gula melaka and coconut milk.

Giving it a few gentle stir, the bowl of dark purplish and white liquid on top transform itself into a light purple mixture. (pardon the yellow lighting)

Aha. This stuff is potent! The warm mixture will definitely get them addicted to it. The taste of gula melaka and coconut milk must be a lethal combination that can get many people hooked. (even angels get hooked to this stuff) Forget drugs. Human gluttons get hooked to good food! The small bits of the glutinous rice gives it some bite that massages their tongue too. Almost there.....

Oh no. The humans had earlier ordered durian puffs and it arrived just when we thought we could win them over. Looks like the angels lost to puffs filled with pure D24 ammo. When the humans ate it, the durians immediately blinded them. It was as if a thick veil that covered them from the truth and righteousness. They went back to living in sin and they indulge in earthly food orgies. What went wrong?!

Humans won, angels lost.

PeraMakan @ Keppel Club

We met up with other cousins and uncle and aunty for dinner on Saturday night. More food that sis has not tried. Peranakan Food. We met at PeraMakan at Keppel Club.

Somehow it started like an interrogation session to our sis future husband. LOL.
Anyway, that's private info, the public info is what we ate. haha...
Babi Ponteh. We always love this. So tender and flavoursome.

The Meat Rolls cubes. Oxymoron? Haha.. Meat rolls that has been cut into cubes lah...

Sotong Sambal. Lovely.

This is the seafood tofu dish. Everyone loves this, it was gone in a flash!

Sambal Kangkong. We were discussing, how to differentiate this with the usual sambal kangkong. It seems that if its peranakan, it always have dried shrimps (hae bee) on it. Is it true?

We like hae bee. (But we found out that our future BIL does not eat hae bee. )

The chicken dish. We love the way it is done. We slurped all the gravy away!

The beef rendang. Somehow this time it seems to be lacking something. (We think its salt!)

Only in May we were told. The fishhead curry.

This is the saltiest dish of the night. Cincalok Eggs.
Cincalok is salty, so this dish is naturally salty. Salty, but addictive!

One of the reason we came here was because of the dessert too.
Stay tuned for the desserts tomorrow!

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao @ Holland Village

This was Saturday's lunch. We brought youngest sis and future BIL to have La Mian. We were deciding which chinese food to try and sis decided on la mian.

For starter, we had white pork wrapped in cucumber and carrots. We thought it was suppose to be a cold dish, but it was hot. Hmm. Anyway, it taste quite OK.

We had the Peking Duck as well. These things are expensive in UK. So, here's a treat for them.

We were amazed at the lady sliced the skin off with a cleaver and at the same time. This is before the duck got 'skinned'.

After being 'skinned', it was wrapped for us.

We had quite a lot of pieces to eat. I am kinda addicted to the sweetish paste. You can see that I spread it on the outside too.

We also ordered the Xiao Long Bao. (This restaurant is called XLB right? )
While we were having this, the next table with a 3 English Ladies sat down and ordered this as well. Sorry to eavesdrop, but the younger of the 3 ladies were speaking quite loudly, playing host to 2 other ladies in their 60s. She must be quite excited to introduce the food to her visitors. She told them, you should try this dumplings and the noodles.

When their XLB came, oh goodness, the younger lady was teaching the two other older ones how to eat. Guess how it was eaten? They took the XLB to their plate and break the skin of the XLB. After that, they drained the soup inside and ate it without the soup. Oh no! Wasting the soup in the XLB. We were like shocked. We wanted to tell the 3 ladies that you are suppose to put the XLB in your spoon, pricked it, drink the soup and then eat the XLB. But we could not bare to embarrass the lady and her guest.

It was quite funny though. She lady was 'wayang-ing' (acting) the whole time, pretending she was the expert. We were quite entertained.

We also ordered the 'red' version of XLB. It's XLB with chilli oil and vinegar. yum...

This is the rest of the Peking Duck. Sis wanted La Mian, so we had Fried La Mian.
While eating we were thinking, maybe we should have asked for the duck drum sticks and wings to be cut out for us earlier. The yummy skin on the drumsticks and wings, where did it go? LOL... Only duck meat stripes were in the noodles.

Have a nice long weekend ahead.

Sushi Tei @ VivoCity

The eating adventure follows. Sis who is visiting wanted to have Japanese on Friday night. She and her other half had spent their day in Sentosa. After that, they met up with other sis and shop for some girlie stuff (cosmetics etc..)

The family met up with them and out of the 5 Jap places in Vivo City, we settled for Sushi Tei. We had a few things, but these are the more interesting looking ones.

The wasabi caterpillar. It somehow always catches your attention doesn't it?

We always seem to like this. The Unagi wrapped with egg. The warm egg always feels so so good in your mouth!

The handrolls. The softshell crab and minced tuna roll.

This is another of our favourite. The baked scallops. We like the saltish mayo cream thingy on top of it. You know those that you wish you can lick off the shell. hehe.

We also had a grill fish.

Also the teapot soup.

OK, you can peep what's inside. ;-)

We tried the seafood version of the spicy hot pot. It seems to taste nicer than the chicken one we had a few post earlier.

Thanks to our future bro-in-law who treated us dinner. ;-)

Sis had Egg and Onion Prata. The photo was kinda blur and dark, so not posting it here.

But this is the Roti Tissue that was also ordered. I think everyone and anyone will love Roti Tissue.

I had chicken nasi pattaya. Had to wait some time for it.

This place is famous for its cheese prata, but we did not ordered it. Some other time maybe.

Porridge and Mee Pok

My other sis from UK is visiting and she is missing all the food that she has not eaten for the last two years. Soon Kueh, Gao Teng Kueh, Fruit Rojak, etc... So this morning, we went to a nearby food centre, and she ate a soon kueh and bought a piece of gao teng kueh.

She saw Mee Pok store, and just had to order it.

She said London does not sell Mee Pok. (anyone from London agrees with her? can't be right?)
She had not drunk soup that has 'tong chai' in it for a long time too. That she forgot what the preserved veg is called!

Her other half ate prawn noodles. A bit 'pai seh' to take photo of his food. ;-)

Well, I had comfort food. Duck porridge.

The duck's hidden below and I had a 'lor neng' to go with it as well.

It's kinda impossible to eat so much things is so few days right?

Sun Asian Bistro @ NUS

A colleague seems to keep wanting to come here. (why? an internal circular informed that the 50% off thingy is extended till the end of May.)

So, today, almost all of our unit came. We had the same starters again. Yes, the Prawn Paste Chicken. Don't laugh, but we seem to be addicted to freshly fried fragrant chicken.

A few of us had the set meals. There was 3 sets and they had dessert, soup and starter to go with it. (The rest had the other food we tried)

This is set A. The Spicy Brinjal. It has a tofu side dish, spicy 'kiam chai' soup and watermelon as dessert.

Set B that 2 other colleague had was the Chicken. I think I should have ordered this. I love chicken like this!

Set C, is the seafood curry. I think 4 of us had this. Curry is nice and thick. But I wish there was more veg though.

Ms Preggy had the Asian Dishes that we did not get to eat the last time. It's the Bulgogi Miso Rice.

She said that it is not bad. It does look yummy.

Colleagues who had the western dishes said, head over to Aston's. :-)

J Co Donuts & Coffee

Just the other day after Bible Study, we had a group fellowship. Someone brought donuts! It's the donuts that many of us have not tried because we dread the queue at the shop. Somehow some kind souls who love the rest of us so much queued for it. Thanks! ;-)

In the box was many donuts. There were all sorts of flavour and all of them look so delicious.

Since there was quite a few of us and we wanted to taste more flavours, the donuts were all quartered. Hey, the whitish donut has filling in it as you can see.

This is I think the chocolate crispies topping. Yes, one bite is not enough.

You can see the sweet sugar coating on this. The hard topping with very soft donuts inside. Oo... donuts can be so heavenly at times.

Did not take the photos of the rest, they were devoured in the blink of the eye.

Have a good week ahead. It has been so so busy at work. I am so sleep deprived.

Hmmm looks like it is going to NUS Canteens food again. Quick lunch from the Indian stall at Engineering Canteen.

Fried drumstick over rice and curry gravy.
The sides: Eggs and onions, long beans and potato, brinjals.

A simple quick meal that is cheap, but somehow makes me satisfied. I wonder if metal trays makes the difference. (knock my head! silly boy!)

Vietnamese Grilled Pork Chop Noodles @ Business Canteen

This is only available on Wednesday at the Vietnamese Stall in the NUS Business Canteen.

I wanted to try this for some time, but never got to this canteen on a Wednesday. Last Wednesday, colleagues and I made a trip there and got to try it. The reason I wanted to try it is because the Vietnamese students seems to be always ordering it. Why? Why? Curious to find out why they like it so much?

It looks simple isn't it? It also looks kinda dry. But....

When you lift up the 'frills' on top, you see this deliciously grilled pork chop.
Looks normal, but somehow, the whatever marinate they use and makes these few pieces of grilled meat taste so delicious.

When you order they pour a scoop of 'liquid' over the dry noodles. This 'liquid' or sauce taste very addictive. Its a mix of fish sauce, lime juice and other ingredients that I can't really decipher at the moment. (Good excuse to eat it again).

The crisp lettuce, strings of carrots and cucumber slices make it very healthy and light. The cold noodles makes it quite appetizing as well. This is it all mixed up. After mixing, it does not taste dry at all.

Yup, the price is only $2.50. I should make a trip there again.

Colleagues and I are beating the inflation by eating cheaper food these few days. NUS Canteens seems like a good place to hunt for food this week. All the students have finished their exams and is staying away. :-)

Big Eater Restaurant @ Upper Changi Road

Last night, I went for another Makan Gathering. This group is a gathering of friends that has links with a little town called Batu Pahat. We usually think it's a small little town, but do you know that it's the second biggest town in Johor and its physical area is bigger than Singapore.

Yes, even the Singapore Musical "Beauty World" has a main character in the story that originates from Batu Pahat.

This makan gathering was decided over Facebook. Long story short, we decided that we will meet at Big Eater Restaurant. It was meeting of friends that we have not met for like 10 over years! (ya ya, the facebook thingy again.. ) We were laughing, chatting, eating and some drinking all the way from 8pm till nearly midnight!

So what did we eat? All the dishes were recommended by the restaurant based on their popularity. We were peeping around looking at other tables too. Ya, everyone seems to be eating almost the same yummy stuff. So here it is, the food that we had in order of appearance on our table.

Stir Fried French Beans. I am a big fan of french beans so anything french beans is yummy to me.

Next was the drunken prawns. Everyone loved the flavour of the rich soup. The soup was gone before all the prawns.

Next dish that posed for our cameras were the BBQ Pork Ribs. We were earlier been mesmerized by the aroma of it that came in a claypot from the next table. When ours arrived, hey! no claypot. We sulked for 1 minute then like little children, we forgot about it and devour our food as usual.

Next dish that came was the KL Style Hokkien mee. Hey, if you are a lard lover, this is the dish for you! Full of the crispies. (yeah you know what right?) Every spoon that I put in my mouth, there was the crunchy bits of it.

Have said it once and am saying it again, lard has no trans fat. LOL... But still eat in moderation ok?

The reason we came here was that we heard the crabs here was good. We had 6 persons and we had the dilemma of deciding, 1 big crab or 2 small crabs. What would you choose? We decided to have 2 smaller ones cooked in 2 different styles! So clever right? :-)

This is their famous Salted Egg crab. Yeah you can see the yoke of the salted egg above the shell. Sinful.... Yeah it was tasty, but I thought the next one was better.

The Black Peppered Crabs. We did a CSI on the sauce and found out that they use cili padi to make this dish extra spicy. So its a combi of pepper and cili padi that made it fiery.

Food in the company of friends always makes it enjoyable, especially when we all had a common link.

If you want to read a more detail description of each dish and what we think, hop on to Camemberu's blog. Yup, she was there too. I always enjoy reading her reviews.

Guess what? Colleagues came in at lunch hour and said, hey let's go try it out again. Yesterday's with the 50% off. Haha.. All of us said ya ya.. We realise that we are not the only ones enticed by the deal. We saw others who was there yesterday also eating here today. LOL...

Since we tried the Mushroom Soup yesterday from colleague's bowl, we all decided we shall all have 1 each today.

Had wanted to try the Asian dishes, but today their Asian part of the menu is not available because the chef has been 'booked' to a special function that someone has booked.

We had the Shrimp paste winglet again as we liked what we tried yesterday. We also had a diff starter and had the sausage starter.

So, I tried the Fish and Chips today. Quite all right. With the soup, and eating two big pieces of fish, I could not finish the chips. (colleague said 'mai ke ke lah..' LOL)

Old Cat had the seafood pasta. If you follow this blog, you would have realised that our colleague who we call 'old cat' has been eating seafood. We thought cats only love fish. LOL

"Wire" had what we called the playboy pasta. Dont you think it looks like the playboy logo? We realise that the chef in this place is really creative. Every dish is served so beautifully.

Ms Preggy's urge for food today was bread it seems. She had the Club Sandwich. Looks delicious eh? We wonder... who determines the urge that she has. The baby in the tummy or is it her? Hmmm...

"Pilot" and "Puk" both had the chicken I had yesterday. It seems that they heard what we told them yesterday. The saffron rice is very good today. Ah... They hear us. LOL..

Some peep into the place. There is this huge chairs in the middle. Artsy Fartsy right?

The other corner has what is called the working people's corner. They have power sockets for those who wants to work with their notebooks. Ya, we are techies here, we scanned the Wifi around and found 2 networks. One belongs to the restaurant and one the NUS Wifi.

In case you wondered, we took the normal tables :-)
It was snap, eat and go back to rush deadlines. Maybe during non peak times, we might come here to relax with the seats with the big pillows.

Sun Asian Bistro @ NUS Staff Club

You probably have not heard of the NUS Staff Club having a makan place right? You are most probably only familiar with the NUS Canteens, famous for its delicious and cheap food.

Around two weeks ago, a new restaurant opened and a few of us curious gluttons decided to go take a look today. The place is called Sun Asian Bistro and its located at the Staff Club. Chatting with Mr Felix, we think should be the manager, (we did not ask him who he is) he said they are part of the Kriston Catering group and this is their first 'higher end' venture.

This might be the most comfortable place in the whole staff club! Plush cushions and pillow if you choose certain seats. Oh yes, the swimming pool view is still there too. Yes, some people enjoy eating and looking at hunks and babes at the pool below. LOL...

We casually asked if there's discount for Staff Club members or NUS Staff, since the restaurants in staff club has traditionally offered discounts. We were told: 50% for Staff Club members and 20% for NUS Staff. WHAT?! 50% off? Yes. The discount is for the first 2 weeks. Which means it ends tomorrow. (People in NUS, hurry down. haha...)

We tried the Soup of the day which was Cream of Mushroom. $4 It was quite good. You get really get to taste the mushroom. The minestrone soup $4, was also quite decent.

Ya, when we heard about the 50%, we started to order more. LOL. (We are so 'xian shi' right? haha..) So, we ordered 2 starters. First came the Shrimp Paste Chicken $10.90. Quite nicely done. Crispy outside, not really oily and moist inside.

Next was the Hearthy Platter. $10.90. OK lah. It was not bad, but the chicken was better.

Then for main courses, we tried the following.

Our boss joined us today, and he had "Wok Char Salmon". $15.90. Yes, it's high end place and the food were all like pieces of art. Quoting from its menu: Pan seared soy butter marinated salmon topped with sauteed leek & wild mushroom served with garlic mashed potato. Boss says it was good.

Another colleague, 'old cat' had the 'Deep Ocean Catch Seafood' $15.90. He looks satisfied with his food. With his usual glee on his face. LOL.
Seafood treasure in coco sauce served with garlic mashed potato & ratatoullie. What is coco sauce? We tasted it, it was some tangy sauce. Goes well with the seafood I guess.

Wire and Puk both ordered "Greenland & Sea Collection" $25.90
A combination of char-broiled tenderloin with pan seared herb marinated prawn served with charred veg & seasoned potato. We were impressed by the deco. Really, we never expect something like this to be in NUS.

This is the other plate. Two person had two different experiences. Both ordered medium rare. Wire's was exactly medium rare. Puk's medium done. LOL... Both said the taste was good.

Ms Preggy had the Mediterranean Chicken Roulade. $15.90
Comes with Saffron rice & asparagus, baby carrot dizzled with taragon sauce.
Again, we were impressed by the presentation.

I also had the same thing. The chicken's nice, but the saffron rice needs some improvement. Rice's a bit hard.

For our dessert, USA Cheese Cake. $4. Not bad. Might come back for more next time.

English Brownie. $4. Warm brownie and Ice Cream on top. Boss likes it. I would have preferred it to be more chocolatey and sticky. hehe..

Blueberry Mousse. $4. Taste like jam was what everyone said, but we still wallop it all. Something different.

This is the Chocolate Truffle Cake. $4. The like what we saw. Looks nice ya? It taste good too.

The place is not official launched, it's still on 'trial run' according to Felix. He asked us to give him feedback and we did. He gladly accepted what we said. Ah... this place "you qian tu".

We shall come back in a few weeks and see how much it has improved. We are all curious about whether the discount will continue. LOL.

Subtotal was $165.10, with 50% off at $82.60, plus taxes etc, the final bill was $90.85

Nasi Singapura - House of Lontong @ Adam Rd Food Centre

Do you suddenly feel like having food from certain stalls that you seem to have forgotten they exist? Colleagues and I did. We suddenly remembered that we have not been to Adam Road Food Centre for a very long time.

It seems 'automatic' that our legs just brings us to this stall. We used to like this stall a lot.

I think 3 of us had the "Ayam Merah" with some veg sides. The sauce seems to have changed a bit. The cost definitely has gone up by a dollar too.

While the rest were queueing for food, I was sitting down 'choping' seats. So when they got back, it was already 10 over people later who had bought food. The 2 other persons who had the ayam merah first thought that the chicken was dry. Ya we could see it. But for mine, which was the 2nd batch, it was moist and juicy.

We were wondering... Why ah? Are they not consistent anymore?

Pukki had the 'Ayam Kari'. Still quite ok he says.

Another colleague, 'old cat' had the fish. Old cat usually chooses the healthier food amongst us, and when he looks at the more delicious calorie laden / sinful food, he wants to exchange with us. LOL But his lunch does look good too.

Hope your week has been a productive one.

Tom Ton @ The Central (Part II)

Part II of our Tom Ton lunch that started yesterday.

We saw this menu. Straight away, 4 of us said, we are having this. It takes 2 days to make the pork bone soup. Some more Black Pig!

So this is one it. The soup's so white too. It's not really that spicy as it looks.

The soup's not too salty too. It really gives you the satisfaction. There are more things submerged under the soup. Did not want to mess up the pretty sight. haha...

Ms Preggy had the cold noodles. It came in this big wide wooden container.

The soup dip...

And if I did not catch it wrongly, this is made from imported Japanese lemon. Aiya, we were too busy with our own food, we forgot to 'taste taste' Ms Preggy's food. LOL.

Another colleague, 'alert5' had this. Yes alert5 is the person who knows the people in this place.
Looks pretty ya? Sorry, forgot the name of this dish. But we did get to 'try try' alert5's lunch. The soup is yummylicious.

It has the tonkatsu. Yes, he had the special miso paste served to him.

Another colleague, 'wire' had a hot pot too. Different from the one above, this soup is more sweetish. I think its sukiyaki. We were quite intrigue by the egg. The whole egg is raw but only a tiny part of the white that is cooked. Hmm....

Nicely marbled. Want some? hehe...

OK, that's our lunch outing at Tom Ton. We have to thank 'wire' who suddenly decided to sponsor the lunch. He 'IB' back to us what we paid him via 'IB'. haha...

IB = our way of paying for our lunch, ie, Internet Banking.

Tom Ton @ The Central

Few days ago, a few colleagues and I wanted to go eat at Tekka Market just before it is closed for the next years. While traveling there, we somehow got distracted and decided to have Japanese food instead. We had a colleague who had earlier told us about his dinner at Tom Ton the previous night.

You know you get very into it, especially when it's about food and you are hungry. So without hesitation, we hop off the train. We were exactly at Clarke Quay station too. It's a sign! LOL..

This colleague is a frequent diner there. He knows the chef and even the ladies taking orders know him. She recommended that we try Saba sashimi.

Have you wondered what the tiny chrysanthemum flower is on the plate for? Well, it's imported from Japan and its edible! You are suppose to pluck the petals and put it in the sauce and wasabi and coat the sashimi with it, with a bit of spring onions too. It's very fragrant!

It's deliciously smooth and got good texture. It's almost like having the cooked mackeral that mum cooks for us. But this is raw. Oooo... yummy! Yes... as usual, we were talking about how for the price that we paid for this, how mum could have fed the whole family with this and how mum fries them. (We all realise, our mums seems to cook things the same way. haha..)

We also shared the soft shell crab. It was nicely done. It does not have the oily taste and it is not flat too. You know how some places, it's so so flat!

Then this is what we had too. The famous Kurobuta - Black Pig Tonkatsu.
We had shared this piece of pork loin that is so nicely done.

Look at the fat in it! Our colleague was boasting to us that when he comes alone, the chef will choose the choice part where there is a thin slice of fat in between the meat.

No, we did not get special preference as our colleague who eats here alone. haha.. Some of you know Tonkichi right? The chef here was from there. But here, he prepare the tonkatsu with Kurobuta!

We are to dip it in this tonkatsu sauce.
It seems that people in different part of Japan eats it with different sauce. Our colleague had his personal saucer of miso paste served for him without asking!

It was delicious. That is the shared items we had. Tomorrow, will post up the individual dishes we had.

Hope your Monday was not blue. It was a mad rush today for me. Too many things, too little time. See you tomorrow.

Oh yes, the Canele meet up thingy that some of you suggest we have with Camemberu. Yes its coming up, we just have to find a time where all can meet ;-)

Island Creamery @ Serene Centre

Ice cream again? Yes. The weather's hot hot hot!

Two days ago, colleague drove us to Adam Road to lunch, and after that, we headed next door to Island Creamery. The last time we were here was in Nov 2007. This time those who could not join us the last time came. hehe..

It's nice to be back. It's good to know that their prices remains the same! You can compare it with the photo here from Nov 2007. We hope they will maintain the price.

It was unlike our lunch, the same thing we ordered cost us $1 less previously. Yes, the Malay food we had went up by $1!!

We had 6 of us sharing 6 scoops of ice cream. One that our taste buds like was the Apple Pie!

OK, boh liao a bit. Here's some close up. haha...

Hot days these few days right? Go... have some ice cream.

Ice cream has calcium, so it prevents osteoporosis! :-p

Ben & Jerry @ Vivocity

Oh no.. Ice cream post again. haha.. It seems once you start you can't stop. This was
taken on Apr 30. Why? Apr 29 was the Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day. We did not want to queue for it. There's just too many people queuing. So the next day, we all came to have our Ben & Jerry outing day. haha...

One colleague had a single cone.
Another colleague ordered this. Cookies with ice cream.

Three other guys, we shared this 3 scoop thingy. With colourful toppings!

Yumm.....
Did anyone queue for the Ben & Jerry Free Cone Day?

MOF Japanese Gelato @ Raffles City Shopping Centre

Sis was in an ice cream mood. Remember the Jap food posted two days ago? She wanted something sweet and light after the meal. We actually walked past Canele and wanted to go in, but after waiting for 10 mins in front of the 'Please wait to be seated' sign, we walked away. (A few friends commented that that sign is meant to be ignored. Everyone just walks in they want a place if you want to get a seat. aiyo!)

Anyway, we walked past the Ministry of Food (MOF) kiosk that sells gelato. It says trans-fat free, preservative free enough to tempt sis. haha..

The Azuki Bean gelato she had on a waffle cone.

Mine's on a cup. Very light tasting melon flavour.

Sis colleague - Ms S, had the Japanese Tea and Red Bean on a cone.

Looks yummy right? Sorry not sure about the price, Thanks for Ms S for the gelato. She insisted on paying after I paid for dinner. hehe..

Burgers, Fish & Chips, Pasta @ Smok' Inn Frogz Kitchen

Last Saturday I had lunch with Southernoise, Camemberu, my sis and two other friends whom one of them was born on the same day, same month, same year as me! I finally got to see this friend in person. Apparently our mums were resting in the same ward beside each other too! LOL..

Southernoise introduced us to this place that he frequently visits. Tucked in an obscure place, it serves delicious burgers! It's called Smok'inn Frogz Kitchen.

Southernoise complained that a few week's ago, this place was reviewed in the Straits Times and since then, it was difficult to find a place to sit at night! He says it would be even harder to find places to sit when Keropokman and Camemberu blogs about it too. :-p

So, what did we have? Initially we all set our eyes on the Beef Burger. But with Camemberu and her brand new DSLR, and Southernoise teaching us how to use DSLR, what a waste to order the same thing right? So we decided to order a few other things. Aiyoyo, what food bloggers will do!

So, I opted for the Chicken Burger. $12
It's a huge burger. (Bigger than a whopper). Toasted sesame seed bun, with a few slices of chicken fillets with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. Served with chips and salad.

Sis and another friend has the Fish and Chips $12
It's beer battered fish. It stays crispy and the batters taste a bit like those delicious pisang goreng batter too.

Southernoise and another friend had the Beef Burger. $12.
Look at the thick patty! Those onions and cheese. Camemberu 'tak boleh tahan', tapow-ed one home too.

Camemberu had the Prawn Linguine. $14. She said it was delicious.

Sometimes people refer to this place as Baa Baa Black Sheep. Why?

This place is actually a shop lot with 3 different stalls. The front is a bar that sells drinks. Yes, it is called Bar Bar Black Sheep. Then there is Smok'inn Frogz next to it. The last shop is an Indian stall. Southernoise loves the cheap beer here. You get different kinds of imported beer here too.

Remember to pop over to Camemberu's page. She took photos with her brand new DSLR. (lao nuah man...) The photos are superb and her reviews are always a joy to read.

Looking for this place?
It's at 879 Bukit Timah Road, Singapore 279892 (Cherry Ave)
No GST, no Service Charge.
