It's the Robinsons Cardmembers preview sale yesterday and today. After work, met up with sis and her colleague so we can see if there's any bargains. Robinsons at Raffles City SC is so so packed! Just too many people and its sale, people in Singapore gets selfish and blocks lanes etc..
Give up shopping. We are going for dinner instead. Half an hour of wait, we got in to Sushi Tei. Sis colleague is a vegetarian by choice.
She ordered a Yasai Miso Soup. $6 It's a very big bowl of soup!
And ate it with assortment of sushi. $6
Sis and I, other than stealing her colleague's sushi, we had the Chanko Nabe. $22. We had the spicy miso base. It's on a big metal container that's over the portable gas cooker.
It has mushroom, cabbages, tao pok, leek, tofu, carrots, potatoes, melon and udon.
It also comes with minced chicken on bamboo. We just scrap and shape them into balls and it goes into the so called 'steamboat'.
Very soupy soupy night. After that we left this place and headed for desserts.
$36.65 after a 10% sushi tei members discount.

Spice Peranakan @ Bukit Timah Shopping Centre
Last Sunday after church, our lunch was not too far away from church. We wanted to have lunch and go home and sleep. We went to Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. Aunt said that she saw this place, but have not tried it yet. So we decided to go and 'try try' lah..
It's at one end of the shopping centre, quite hidden if you don't walk to the end.
Basement 1, B1-18 if you are looking for it.
They have a menu board that has boxes in front of the name of dishes. When it's ticked, that means they have it that day. How interesting. They cook less things on Sundays it seems as there's less people around. It's a mum and pop shop.
So what did we have? We had the Chap Chye.
We also tried the stuff sotong. The sotong is stuffed with fish meat we were told. But I can't tell what it is. The sauce is quite ok.
This is the Asam Fish. It was quite all right too. The fish was a mackerel cut into 2 parts, and it is quite decent size.
One thing though. After our meal, we thought we ordered Asam Prawns, where are the prawns?? Then we realise we were served fish instead!haha...
Next was the fish that we actually ordered. It's called Ikan Tempra. The selar fish was fried till very crispy. "very garing" as they say it in Malay. I like this because I like to eat this kind of 'cheap' fish (that's no longer cheap) and it is covered with onions with black sauce, which is my fav too. (yes, very bias i know)
We also had Ayam Penyet. The penyet is not really penyet right? Look how high it still is. Maybe they forgot to hammer it! haha.. But it was fried very nicely. Plus the Tempra style again which had my favourite 'dao you' onions.
The food's overall's quite ok. We had 3 persons, we paid $26 for the dishes above.
But..... they got to learn how to cook rice! Yes, rice! Rice is the most important thing for this kind of dishes right? Rice that was served was half cooked. The middle part of the rice was still hard. Definitely not enough water. Alamak right?
Give chance a bit lah, next time hopefully they get to cook their rice properly. Maybe it is a new hired hand in the kitchen that cooked the rice. If rice is still not ok the next time, just tapow the dishes home, then eat it with freshly cooked rice.
Talking about rice, I miss the Bario rice from Sarawak. Must ask someone visiting Sarawak to bring back some!

ieat Makan Session at Joe's Kitchen @ Bukit Merah (Part II)
We had to much to eat that posting all the photos will be too much even to view on one day. LOL. We were really filled to the brim.
Next to be served was a plate of fried fish. Hmmm how do we eat it? (I think many of us were thinking, how ah? How to eat? What goes with what? People also dare ask too much, wait malu how? But our tables we were not malu, we just asked each other. haha...)
The fish pieces above are for this super fiery tom-yam soup. Innocent looking tomato-ish soup eh? Wait till you have it. 5 mins later, you get the satisfaction of a really warm stomach. (The weak ones will have to run for cover.. LOL)
You put the fish in the soup when you want to eat it so it stays crispy.
Next to come out was the beef green curry. The beef is the tenderized kind of beef. I personally do not like the kind of texture, some people like it. Those beef that taste like it has been 'expanded' kind of feeling. (not sure if you get what I mean)
I think my favourite for the night is this fish! Deep fried till it is crispy, and the super reddish sauce over it. I love it! The red sauce is not as spicy as you think. (yes you can see all the chilly seeds and all, but...) It is more tomato-ish in taste. I can just eat this and I am satisfied.
After the fish was out, we were told. Pace yourself! More food to come! WHAT?! More?
Yes, next came the Duck Red Curry. What you find inside are lots of fruits! Whole green grapes, pineapple, etc..
Next is basil leaves with minced pork. Very homely dish and very comforting. "Drazarael", the person sitting beside us was especially delighted with this. You can see it on his face.
What Drazarael was waiting for the whole night finally arrived! The crab vermicelli. He is a die hard fan of ieat and he was describing all the postings by ieat.
The tang hoon has soaked up all the gravy from the crab.
When the dish came, we dugged right to the bottom of the claypot to search for the "fatty roast pork" that's suppose to be under it. Drazarael said that it was described in ieat's blog that this is the secret to the aroma of the dish.
The fatty pieces of roast pork at the bottom is suppose to melt and aroma of it permeates to the whole dish. We found 2 pieces of it. LOL. So we dug. Showing you here the proof of the roast pork. haha...
Then came the last dish. A very nicely done Kangkong with the 'wok hei' smell.
But wait! There's more! 2 more actually. 2 desserts to come. While waiting for desserts, at our table, we were speculating what is coming up. We were thinking that is might be 'mango with sticky rice' and 'red ruby'.
Well, our guess of the mango with sticky rice was correct! The mango is nice and sweet. The rice is savoury. We were just too full to eat the rice.
Then the last and finale. Thai Tapioca. I am not a tapioca person but I tasted it and hey, not that bad.
It was a wonderful night of eating. Especially if you do not know 90% of the people there. You sign up for the makan, arrive, pick a seat, sitting beside people you do not know, and chat and eat. We are quite crazy right? LOL...
So, if you want to try it out, you can head down to:
Joe's Kitchen
Blk 125, Bukit Merah Lane 1 #01-182
(Opp Alexandra Hospital)
11am to 3pm 5pm to 10pm
Tel : 62708484
Since Ikea's kitchen that is nearby is closed for renovation and Anchorpoint is forever packed (because Ikea's closed), you can head down one block down to this place to try it out. :-)

ieat Makan Session at Joe's Kitchen @ Bukit Merah
Last nite, some 45 gluttons met in a HDB shoplot restaurant called Joe's Kitchen. It was a makan session organised by ieatishootipost.sg It was like a dégustation menu or sorts. Usually dégustation menus are not filling, where you slowly and carefully taste and appreciate various food.
This one was truly for makan kakis. Food was flowing out of an overworked kitchen. (that even caused a momentary power failure.) The chef's Joe from a Esarn and married Jamie from Singapore. Joe's previously from Parkway Thai.
The feasting started with this spicy peanut paste. My taste buds are not that good to pick out exact ingredients in it.
You eat it with rice crackers with this 'ayam brand tuna paste' look-alike and taste-alike thingy. It was yummy by the way.
Next was this golden nuggets of prawns.
If you are wondering how it looks inside. Here you go...
Next this pretty little container was brought out.
In it was glutinous rice, extra sticky!
The rice is to go with this Thai Papaya salad.
The rice is to go with this Thai BBQ Chicken.
Wait, the rice's to go with this Pork Neck. Thai Char Siu. ;-)
What else did we eat? Stay tuned tomorrow.
If you can't wait, you can visit EastCoastLife's blog to see her review. I have not seen her for about a year I think! You get to see the Chef's photo too on her blog.

Beef Stew Noodles, Vietnamese Stall @ NUS Business Canteen
A quick lunch over at the NUS Business Canteen. It was a Tuesday and this was the special that is available on Tuesdays only.
It was very tasty and the beef was tender and was generous too. Looks clear, but it is spicy! Yum! $2.50
With Singapore's inflation hitting 6.7% last month, we got to thank food vendors like this who still maintained their prices and continue to give us delicious food.
Realized a few stalls that I frequently visit has raised their prices. Sigh...

Birthday Celebration @ Peaberry and Pretzel, Sunset Way.
Happy Birthday to our dear cousin! It's our cousin's birthday today. But we all celebrated it last Sunday so that other cousins can make it too.
Today's also her last paper for the week before other papers starts again after a one week break.
We went to Sunset Way for diner and yes, we tried Yum Yum Thai again. But we sat in the open air and it is too dark to take any photos. We repeated what we did the previous week and came over to Peaberry and Pretzel to have our cake and dessert.
This is her birthday cake. You can see from the candles how old she is. PSLE exams at the end of the year, so you know lah... I think her mum is more stress about the PSLE than the daughter!
All the photos are grainy because of the poor lighting condition. Or you can blame it on me. :-)
This is the Carrot Cheese Cake that was on the counter display. It's freshly baked less than 2 hours ago when we ordered it.
It's a medium size cake and I think it's just the nice size. Everyone took a slice like this and it is just nice. What we like about it is it is moist inside and it does not have those usual icing on it. The top is cheese. It is just so so yummy!
The person taking our order said that they have the best souffle around. So we ordered one. We had the souffle with rum. $12
When you order it, it takes around 15 mins to prepare. Yes, you can see the chef separate the eggs, beat it up, etc... the whole process if you want. It's made fresh and right in front of you.
Does it tempt you?
The ice cream and white choc goes well with it!
We also had the Hot Apple and Rhubarb Crumble. $10
It is also very interesting. If you like the sour Rhubarb you will like this.
It's the weekend! Have yourself a well rested and enjoyable weekend!
Sis and I think in future, we shall get birthday cakes from here. The size is small enough. It seems people nowadays only take a tiny slice anyway. Also the price of it, at $16 is quite ok, comparable to other cakes outside.
You can visit their website for more interesting menu. We have yet to try the 'food' part. We have only been dessert-ing here. LOL

Streets Cafe @ Bukit Panjang Plaza
Last Sunday, I was back at Bukit Panjang. Yes, for the 3rd straight week! Anyway, this week's lunch is at this 'yellowish' looking place, a HK Style Cafe called Streets Cafe.
The last time I was at a HK Cafe, I ordered curry. Hmm I ordered curry again at this HK Cafe! Looks like only curry with nothing in it?
It looks empty because it was a deep bowl and there was lots of yummy curry. LOL. I had to use the fork and spoon to dig up the contents. This plain looking curry is the yummiest of all the food we ordered. My sis says it has the 'malay curry' style.
Yes, another dish that allows you to wallop up all your rice.
Uncle had the beef noodle. The beef is very tender and he enjoyed it.
Bro had Sze Chuan Rice. It looks like 'dao you kuay' to me right?
It's something I have not had for a long long time. Must ask mum to cook it for us!
Sis had the Portuguese Stone Rice.
Guess what? The big bowl of curry found itself into this rice too. LOL
Aunt had the wanton noodles that had big wantons!
Sounds a bit unorthodox, but putting the yummy curry over this was tasty! hehe..
When we were paying, we realise Citibank had a 10% for the food items. Yey....
Food for thought:
In your daily speech, do people believe what you say? Is your 'yes' and 'yes' and your 'no' a 'no'?
Do you use phrases like 'seriously...', 'believe me...', 'really...' , 'you must trust me on this' way too often? It might sound that you are trying very hard to convince others that you are speaking the truth. Hmmm... Does that means that other times you are lying?
Today's food for thought brought to you by Matt 5:37

Desserts - Coffee Club @ Holland Village
Hmmm... Are both Momo and Crunchasarus Rex frequent diners at Coffee Club? They guess it correctly what desserts we had.
This is the Fruity Tiramisu. Something sweet and sourish as well.
This Chocolate Delice is very absolutely yummy! It's so chocolatey!
It is even yummier if you mix 1 scoop of it with the Muddy Mud Pie.
Guess what? We were all doing silly billy things. Posing with the food and I don't have photo of it without our silly poses.
Ya, that is my colleague's mouth. Chop off the top, so that he wont be identified. :-)
Do you all do silly photo poses like we do? We do that quite often. No, you don't get to see it here. :-)
